Evening Edition: Goods And Jobs Caught In The Middle Of Port Strike

17 min • 3 oktober 2024

The International Longshoreman's Association (ILA), began its first strike Monday night after a six-year contract with the U.S. Maritime Alliance (USMX), which represents port employers, expired. The dock workers are seeking a 77% pay increase over the duration of a new contract, as well as a ban on the use of automated equipment. The strike has entered its third day leaving several U.S. ports on the East and Gulf Coasts at a standstill, halting shipments and trade at ports that handle about half of all U.S. imports.

FOX’s Gurnal Scott speaks with Jeff Flock, FOX Business Network correspondent reporting from the Port of Newark in Newark, N.J., who gives us the latest on the strike, its impact on the nation and what goods we could run out of if this continues.
