Mary Jennifer Payne is the author of five young adult novels including the contemporary fantasy trilogy, the Daughters of Light. She also teaches in a challenging area of Toronto – an experience that has shaped and informed her writing about social justice, families, and overcoming difficult circumstances. Her most recent fiction also tackles climate change and its implications for current and future generations.

Mary’s books tell the stories of strong young people whose resilience inspires her readers. While she is a sensitive writer, she doesn’t sugarcoat the issues, putting faith in her audience to understand, engage with, and ultimately make positive change in their world.
