The Junior Classics

Hansel and Gretel by the Brothers Grimm

25 min • 7 december 2019

Season 1: Old Favorite Fairy Tales

An old favorite collected by the Brothers Grimm. Hansel and Gretel are a young brother and sister kidnapped by an evil witch living deep in the forest in a house made of cake. The two children save their own lives by outwitting the witch while facing starvation and deception. We discuss the origin of the story inspired by the Great Famine of 1315 which caused desperate people to abandon their children to fend for themselves. Moral of the story: be thankful for the world of abundance we live in but wisely prepare for harsh times.

The Junior Classics is a rescue operation to preserve the wisdom in the Classics before it is lost forever. Our goal is to inspire children with a love of good reading and a real and lasting interest in Western history, literature, and scholarship. My hope is to empower you, the parents, with a resource you can trust to enrich your child’s mind and spirit.

We don’t want these stories lost so our children don’t have to learn these lessons on their own.

The most important thing you can do for us is to spread the message and tell others about these stories and what we are doing. Subscribe and give us a rating, 5 stars if you think it is worth it.

If you want to donate we would love that as well - my promise is that 100% of donations will go to building the impact and quality of the Junior Classics.

If you have feedback and thoughts on how we can do things better please send an email to [email protected].
