William Morrison, whose real name is Joseph Sammachson wrote 56 short stories in the 1950s. Monster, the 8th of those 56 stories, appeared in Planet Stories magazine in July 1951 alongside stories by Poul Anderson, Ross Rocklynne, James Blish, Mack Reynolds and a few others.
