Dr. Abdullah Ali is a scholar of Islamic law with field specialties in Islamic Theology as well as Race and Blackness Studies in Muslim History. His research interests include the interconnection between law and identity formation, comparative Islamic law, and Islam’s role in the modern world. At Zaytuna College, Dr. Ali teaches Jurisprudential Principles, Family Law, Inheritance Law, Commercial Law, Prophetic Tradition, Creedal Theology, and Islamic Virtue Ethics. He received his BA or Al-Ijazah Al-‘Ulya from Al-Qarawiyyin University in Shariah in 2001. He received both his MA and PhD from the Graduate Theological Union in 2012 and 2016, respectively. Prior to his post at Zaytuna College, Dr. Ali was a chaplain at State Correctional Institute in Chester, PA, from 2002 to 2007.

Dr. Yakoob Ahmed is a PhD graduate of the Department of Languages and Cultures, School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.

Sheikh Yaseen Palwala is a perfumer and clothier.

He was born and raised in the suburbs of Montreal, Canada. Sheikh Yaseen embarked on his spiritual journey at the age of 12 in Toronto, Canada wherein he secured a bachelors in Islamic Sciences and a major in theology. Sheikh Yaseen spearheaded his passion in research which compelled him to dig deeper into the exegesis of the Holy Quran & specialized in the Tafseer of the Quran. Imam Tom Facchine (fuh-KEEN-ee) converted to Islam in 2010. He finished his BA in Political Science from Vassar College in 2011 and was granted the opportunity to study at the Islamic University of Madinah from 2015-2020, where he obtained his BA from the Faculty of Shariah. Imam Tom is currently the Research Director of Islam and Society at the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research. He is also resident scholar of Utica Masjid (Utica, New York), as well as the Imam of Hamilton College where he does chaplaincy work. He also teaches Tafseer to middle-schoolers online through Legacy International Online High School. Imam Tom Facchine (fuh-KEEN-ee) accepted Islam in his early twenties. He also holds a chaplaincy certificate from The Chaplaincy Program conducted by the Prophet's Mosque (2019). Tom was formerly the Resident Scholar of Utica Masjid (Utica, New York). When not engaged in study or dawah, Imam Tom’s idea of a good time includes espresso and taking long hikes deep into the woods.

Emad Saadeh is an author, lecturer and counselor for victims of violent crimes. A story of a Palestinian boy who was born in Jerusalem and lived there under Israeli occupation for the first 12 years of his life. His father migrates to the USA in 1973 to escape constantly being arrested and jailed by the Israelis. The young boy and his siblings are finally reunited in 1978. The sweetness of that reunion is short-lived because of his father's physical and mental abuse which drives him to flee his home for the streets of Chicago where he is introduced to the world of Chicago street gangs. He finds himself being arrested many times for his gang activities until he is eventually sentenced to state prison in 1985. In 1987 he is released so he attempts to lead a clean law-abiding life but the lucrative drug trade sucks him in and is eventually arrested by the DEA, after a jury trial he is sentenced to 160 months in federal prison. He is released after almost serving 13 years and finds a changed Chicago with a very disunited family and not much love for each other.

We are joined by Dr. Ovamir Anjum who is an author, translator, and lecturer.

Dr. Ovamir Anjum is the Imam Khattab Endowed Chair of Islamic Studies at the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at the University of Toledo. His work focuses on the nexus of theology, ethics, politics, and law in Islam, with a comparative interest in Western Thought. Trained as a historian, his work is essentially interdisciplinary, drawing on the fields of classical Islamic studies, political philosophy, and cultural anthropology. He obtained his Ph.D. in Islamic Intellectual history in the Department of History, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Masters in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago, and Masters in Computer Science and Bachelors in Nuclear Engineering and Physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before higher education, his Islamic training began at home while growing up in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and the United States with a broad range of scholars including his remarkable grandmother, and continued as he studied fiqh with South Asian Ḥanafī and Ahl-e-hadīs scholars and usūl al-fiqh and qirā’āt of the Quran with scholars from Egypt’s Al-Azhar and Syria. He is the author of Politics, Law and Community in Islamic Thought: The Taymiyyan Moment (Cambridge University Press, 2012). He translated Madarij al-Salikin (Ranks of Divine Seekers, Brill 2020) by Ibn al-Qayyim (d. 1351), one of the greatest Islamic spiritual classics, which is the largest single-author English translation of an Arabic text. His current projects include a survey of Islamic history and a monograph on Islamic political thought.
