Not all NICU babies are preemies! Today, I had the honor of chatting with Sara Bedwell who had a healthy pregnancy that she carried until 40 weeks. Then, in a matter of a few hours, her life turned upside down when her daughter went from a healthy, full-term baby inside of her to a very sick baby born with meconium aspiration and pulmonary hypertension. Sara's daughter, Claire, was born unable to breathe and her journey in the NICU began, complete with being on a higher-powered ventilator and with Sara being told Claire was hovering dangerously between life and death. Sara shares what it was like having a full-term, very sick baby in the NICU as well as how this experience led her to decide that her family was complete, as it would be too anxiety-provoking and traumatic to go through another pregnancy and delivery. This is the story of one tough little girl...and her very strong mama!
