Hello friend. Thanks for joining me on the Encouraging Word Podcast.
We’re tackling a new topic today. For the next few weeks we’ll be talking about living a God-centered life. Now that might sound simple, but living a God-centered life means not living a me-centered life. Not quite so easy, but with God as our helper, it’s possible.

Hello, my friend. I hope you’re having a good day. 1 Corinthians 13:7 says, "Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things." God calls us to walk out sacrificial love. I pray this message encourages you.

Hello, my friend. I hope you’re having a good day. This week on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast we conclude our study of heaven’s timeline and what happens next. As I’ve studied and taught on this topic, I’ve been asked many times, “So, Max, are we living in the end times?” I think we are. And in today’s episode we consider the signs that indicate we are in the last days and how that knowledge compels us to live.

Hello, friend. Welcome to the Encouraging Word Podcast. For the past several weeks we’ve been studying heaven’s timeline and God’s plan for the ages.
Today’s episode brings us to a challenging topic. What happens to those who reject Jesus? There will be a judgment day. It will be a sobering event. But you don’t have to fear it. You don’t have to wonder the outcome. Jesus has done everything possible to point you toward heaven. The good news about the bad news of the final judgment is that it need not be your news. Your only task is to say “yes” to him.

Hello, my friend. Welcome back to the Encouraging Word Podcast. We’re working our way down heaven’s timeline and God’s plan for the ages.
Today we come to the period of tribulation. Scripture tells us this will be a dark, chaotic time, in part because the church and those who follow Jesus will be gone. But Scripture also tells us that this darkness won’t last forever, and even in the days of tribulation, there is reason to hope.

In last week’s episode of The Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we talked about the rapture, and today we’re talking about what happens to the church after the rapture. I know these can be unsettling topics, but take heart, my friend – great celebrations in heaven await us.

Did you know that God has great plans for you? We get a glimpse of His plans for you in the Garden of Eden. A perfect garden where God's children, made in His image, live in perfect relationship with Him, with each other and perfected bodies in paradise. This story of the garden is more than a story...it's a picture, a description. It's a forecast of where our story is going to end up. I hope you've said yes to Christ, because when you say yes to Christ, God stamps yes on your heart. What you're about to hear is a preview of what awaits all who say yes to God.

As I mentioned last week this Fall on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast we'll be in a series called "What Happens Next.” Over the next several episodes we're going to look back at major events in the bible and we'll look forward to what Jesus has promised for the future. Let's do this with hope and urgency, and standing firm on the promises of Christ. There truly is more to life than this life.

This summer on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast we’ve been talking about what we can do to give every day a chance. That can feel especially challenging on a day when things don’t go according to plan, when you’re bumped off track. Just ask the apostle Paul. You think he planned to go to prison? You think Paul said to himself, “Some time in jail would do wonders for my ministry”? Of course not! But he trusted the work of Christ. May we do the same.

Thanks for joining us on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast this week. As we continue our series “Every Day Deserves a Chance,” let’s consider something that has derailed many a day – unforgiveness. Forgiving an offense doesn’t come easily, but doing so grows our understanding of grace. As you experience God’s mercy, and then share it with others, your heart begins to change. And your day has a chance.

Hello, friend. I hope you’re having a good day. But if you’re not, perhaps today’s message will help turn that around. Here on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast, we’re beginning our summer series today called “Every Day Deserves A Chance.” You’re likely familiar with the passage from Psalm 118: “This is the day the Lord has made.” But some days just don’t feel God-designed. My prayer is that over the next several weeks we’ll come to see that every day—a day at the dentist, a day your company downsizes, even a day you say goodbye to a loved one—every day deserves a chance.

Hello, friend. Welcome to the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast.
“What is God’s plan for me?” Have you wondered that? I don’t think I know anyone who hasn’t. We even spent several weeks on the podcast earlier this year talking about how discover and use our God-given uniqueness.
While there are so many specific ways you can spend your time serving others and building the Kingdom, the thing we know God calls us all to is to be more like Christ. The disciples learned this truth from two simple words: “Follow me.”

Hello friend. Welcome to the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast. I’ve been a pastor for a long time—over 40 years! I’ve been asked countless questions during that time, but none more fundamental than, “Max, what do I need to know to be a Christian?”
Maybe someone you care about is asking this question. Maybe you are. Let’s consider the answer from an unlikely source – the thief who hung on a cross next to Jesus.

Thanks for joining me today on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast. We’re wrapping up our study of Romans this week by going back to a story in 2 Samuel. King David, after Saul has died, asks if anyone from Saul’s family is still alive. The relative he finds and the invitation he extends is a beautiful picture of the invitation God extends to us. It has nothing to do with what we can offer but everything to do with who God is.

This week on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, as we continue our study of Romans, we’re looking at God’s covenant with Abraham. A covenant made long before the life and ministry of Paul. Knowing this Old Testament promise helps us understand what makes grace so special: it’s available to everyone.

“For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.” In Romans chapter 7, verses 18 and 19, Paul perfectly describes our inner struggle. We want to live in a way that honors God, yet find ourselves mired in old temptations. And we begin to question if we ever really understood salvation at all. If this sounds familiar, hear me, friend: the grace that saved you initially is enough to sustain you eternally.

The last few weeks on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’ve been talking about the gifts and abilities God gives each of us. Identifying and using our gifts is important, but more important is remembering our gifts aren’t about us. As Paul writes in Ephesians chapter 4, “And Christ gave gifts to people—he made some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to go and tell the Good News, and some to have the work of caring for and teaching God’s people. Christ gave those gifts to prepare God’s holy people for the work of serving, to make the body of Christ stronger.”

Today on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re talking about an idea that eludes so many of us – contentment. It’s hard, isn’t it? Friend, if you’re struggling with contentment, the story of David and Goliath—I know, not where you thought I was going with this—has some encouragement for you.

In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re looking at one of the final parables recorded in the book of Matthew. In it, Jesus tells a story about a master who gives different amounts of money to his servants. But the story isn’t really about the money; it’s about how the servants used what they were given. God has given each of us unique gifts, along with an assignment to use those gifts well. And when you use your gifts to build something or teach someone, you honor the Giver.

You cannot be anyone else. That is the message of today’s episode: be you, my friend, so that through you, others may see who God is.

Multiple times in his New Testament letters, Paul uses the analogy of the human body to explain unity in the church. It is a great illustration – we understand if a foot tried to be a hand or an eye tried to be an ear, the body would not work as designed. The ear is not better than the eye, rather both help us to function in and appreciate the world around us.

Today on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we conclude our series studying the life of Jacob, and it seems fitting we do so by looking at his death. I know, not exactly a fun topic. But Genesis tells us something important about Jacob’s death. Jacob, for all his foibles and flaws, died by faith. At the end of his life, he worshiped. I don’t know exactly what that looked like, but I know I’d like the same to be said of me someday.

Thanks for joining us for another episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast. We have a tendency to try to negotiate with God. We say things like, “If I get this job, I’ll be kinder to my spouse.” I’ve done this. Jacob did this – we see it in Genesis 28 when he says, “If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father’s household, then the Lord will be my God.” But God isn’t like us; he isn’t transactional. And the dutiful older brother? Well, he was still invited to the party.

In the next few weeks on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re going to look at some of Jesus’ most well-known teaching – the Lost and Found parables in the gospel of Luke. Think about how disappointing or discouraging it is to lose something important to you. Now think about how happy and relieved you are when you find it. What do you do? You celebrate, right? If you rejoice when a precious item is returned to you, can you imagine how God celebrates when his children return to him?

Today on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re spending another week in Matthew chapter 6, studying what Jesus has to say about stuff. Our world is full of stuff; it’s part of life. Most of us like our stuff, and that’s ok. The Bible doesn’t tell us we can’t enjoy possessions, but it does offer some guidance about how those possessions fit into our lives. How can we own things without things owning us? Well, the first thing to remember about all that stuff? It’s not yours.

Today on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast we’re talking about one of the most profound parts of a life of faith: prayer. When Jesus taught about prayer in the Sermon on the Mount, he emphasized simplicity and humility. If you’ve ever struggled with how to approach God in prayer or wondered if He hears you, this message is for you.

Would you like to worry less? Maybe even not worry at all? It’s possible! The past several weeks on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast we’ve been talking about receiving the love of God, about drinking deeply from his well of love so that we can love and serve others. Receiving God’s love means trusting in what he offers, and, according to Scripture, he offers you a worry-free life. I pray this episode helps you to remember God’s faithfulness and experience his peace.

In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re taking a look at the promise Paul shares in Romans chapter 8: that nothing, no bad circumstance or bad decision, can separate us from the love of Christ. May you, like Paul, be convinced of that promise.

Not much in life stays the same. We change, our friends change, and the world around us changes. But not God; God doesn’t change. It’s foundational to his character – he’s the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast, I encourage you to anchor yourself to God’s unwavering strength and unchanging love and trust he will hold you.

Today on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast, we’re exploring the profound depth of God’s love. My prayer for you as you listen echoes Paul in Ephesians chapter 3: “And may you have the power to understand how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.”
May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Do you remember when you had to go inside the gas station and pay the attendant to put gas in your car? In this week's episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast, I share a story about the transition to “pay the pump” some years ago and the lesson it brought to mind about how to fill an empty tank.
Our spiritual tanks get empty too, but God has shown us where to go to fill up. If you’re out of gas, the Bible has a word of encouragement for you.

This week on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast, we're going to be meditating on the words from Jesus, “Abide in me.” He says this over and over in John 15. It must be important. But what does it mean?
In today’s episode, we’re looking at what means to live connected to Christ. Not just be around him or near him, but truly connected. To make him your home, to take shelter in the walls of Jesus, and to be transformed by his love.

This week on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast, we're going to be discussing the saying, “you are what you eat.” I’m going to make a small edit for our purposes today: “you are what you drink.” And you can choose what you drink.
This episode talks about one of those big church words: “sanctification.” Turning down the cups of anxiety, anger, and guilt, that show up in your life. And instead accepting what the Holy Spirit offers – to drink from the rivers of living water.

This week on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast, we're continuing our Come Thirsty Series. You know it’s important to stay hydrated, don’t you? We’re coming up on summer, and here in South Texas, that means brutally hot days are around the corner. Down here, if you don’t drink enough water, your body will suffer.
The same is true of your soul. It needs to be hydrated. Jesus does for your soul what water does for your body – come in, invade every little part, and give you what you need to live.

Moms are special, aren’t they? That's exactly what we're talking about on this week's episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast.
If you’ve ever felt cared for or protected, chances are good a mom had something to do with it. Thank God for moms.
Or maybe that doesn’t feel so true for you. On a day when many people celebrate the mom they love or the mom they love being, we know others wait eagerly for the holiday to pass.
But no matter what feelings such days stir in you, may I remind you of God’s great motherly love for you? His affection for you is so deep; he does not forget you. Drink in the promise from Isaiah chapter 49: “I have engraved you on the palms of my hands."

This week on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re beginning a series that looks at what it means to live immersed in God’s love. To allow his love to fill your dry heart and then, by his power, enable to you love those around you.
If you’ve been feeling a little thirsty lately, I pray this message quenches your soul. May you receive God’s love and trust that he will give you what you need.

In our last few episodes of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’ve been revisiting some messages Max shared with his church based on the twenty-third Psalm. Today we’re looking at the final promise in this cherished passage: And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
As he concludes his song of praise, the psalmist reminds us this place we live now is temporary, and our forever home awaits us. We just don’t belong here. Now, hopefully, this life provides more than just a few moments of joy, but it’s still a short-term solution. Jesus Christ offers an eternal one. He is preparing a place for you, and he is coming to take you home.

In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re discussing some of the sweetest words in the Bible…Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life. This phrase from Psalm 23 reminds us that the love of God pursues us. His love comes after us. His love follows us.
Do you believe that? I know you may not feel it every day, but do you believe it? Do you trust it? Today’s episode is for anyone who needs to hear that God loves you, he sees you, and he’s calling to you. I pray it encourages your heart.

In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re discussing how the last few years have revealed a lot about us. Perhaps, more than anything, we’ve learned how isolated so many people are and how lonely they feel. If this describes you, if you ever find yourself convinced that no one cares, that no one can help you, hear you, or heed your call, then Psalm 23 has some encouragement for you.
Max studied the twenty-third Psalm not too long ago with his church in San Antonio, at a time when we all needed words of comfort and hope. But this well-known, well-loved Psalm is timeless. No matter what you’re facing today, let this promise from the middle of David’s poem wash over you: You are with me.

In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re continuing our study of the twenty-third Psalm.
Do you ever have trouble sleeping? So do sheep. They, like so many of us, need their environment to be just right before they can sleep. But sheep can’t create this environment. The psalmist David knew this. He was a shepherd before he was a king. He knew sheep need help to rest.
Psalm 23 reminds us just how much like sheep we are. They need their shepherd to do for them what they cannot do for themselves. If this sounds familiar, if you’ve ever wondered if you could ever do enough to finally rest, this message is for you.

In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re taking a look at the twenty-third Psalm. Max shared these messages with our church in San Antonio, Texas a while back, in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, at a time when so many of us were weary and worried. But many of us are still weary and worried, aren’t we? We could use a dose of comfort and strength from this beloved passage, a reminder of our unchanging shepherd.
