Seppa has been producing beats for over 15 years, always finding new ways to keep the dance floor exciting. After working with a variety of small labels as Duskky, it was Wonk#ay Records (which he now co-runs with Bunkle and Aytch) that really pushed him into becoming what he is today. Playing a variety of parties, big and small, gave him a feel for what really works and that has influenced his productions up to the present. In 2015 he changed his name to Seppa, releasing a single entitled “Trojan/Coriolis” on AutomAte Recordings in February 2016, which was followed up by the EP ‘Homunculus’ in April that year. In November 2016 he released the ‘Displaced’ EP, which covered a variety of atmospheres and speeds whilst keeping a consistently dance floor friendly sound. After co-founding the record label Slug Wife, he turned out a wide variety of material, including his two solo albums to date, 'More' (2018) and 'Split' (2020), both of which were received to great acclaim. He's also put out two albums with collaborator Chalky, entitled 'Bright Spots' (2018) and 'Strange Changes' (2020), exploring instrument driven Jazz flavours and psychedelia. His beat tape, "Whack Lack Vol. 1" (2018), has also become a firm fan favourite alongside numerous Remixes, Singles and EPs. Having now left Slug Wife behind, and after a few years of big life things - namely becoming a father and a husband - Seppa returns in 2024 with his third full length album, ‘See It Through’. Featuring driving boom bap beats and his inimitable taste for otherworldly soundscapes it’s a narrative experience from start to finish, demanding many full listens to unearth all the hidden details. Whilst designed to be a completely enrapturing home listening experience, Seppa’s production really shines on a sound system, and he’s excited to bring his new musical creations to the dancefloor. Single Release: 4/21 Collaboration EP With "Seeded Vision" comes out this summer.
Show Takeaways:
Brain-computer interfaces have the potential to revolutionize music creation, but there are challenges to overcome, such as data transfer and the role of musical knowledge. AI can be a useful tool in music production, from generating lyrics to providing information about plugins and audio files. Creativity is subjective, and the definition of creativity can vary from person to person. AI can be creative in its ability to generate music, but a sense of ownership and sentimental value may be lacking. Imperfections and randomness can add depth and authenticity to music production, and tools like Eurorack can provide unique sounds and experiences. Language has limitations in expressing emotions in music, and the complexity of defining concepts like holes and chairs highlights the challenges of categorization.

This podcast episode will delve into the life of David Mordechai Packouz, a former American arms dealer, musician, and inventor born on February 17, 1982. Packouz joined forces with Efraim Diveroli in September 2005 at AEY Inc., an arms company that quickly secured numerous contracts worth millions. Their notable achievement was a nearly $300 million contract in 2007 to supply the Afghan Army with vast quantities of ammunition, which controversially included prohibited Chinese ammunition, leading to significant legal and ethical issues. Packouz played a key role in concealing the origin of these munitions, resulting in a sentence of seven months of house arrest for conspiracy to defraud the United States. His story caught public attention and was later depicted in the 2016 film War Dogs, where Packouz made a cameo appearance. Beyond his controversial past, Packouz has reinvented himself as an inventor and CEO of Singular Sound, where he developed the BeatBuddy, a guitar pedal drum machine, showcasing his transition from arms dealing to music technology.

Dirty Funky Bass Music, but make it pretty. The vibe and soul of the Maddy O’Neal project combine soundscapes from all across the spectrum of genres. Rich in texture and atmosphere, her roots in funk and soul shine through in a bed of low-end frequencies, making for a unique environment for future bass and synth design to tie it all together. Hailing from Denver, Colorado, you can hear the direct electro-soul inspiration sprinkled in her productions, but she has managed to carve out her own unique lane within the bass community. As a self-taught producer and DJ with a wildly creative upbringing, Maddy’s expression was formed by way of soulful melodic overtones, driven basslines, and glitched-out hip-hop grooves. Maddy’s live performances consist of original compositions, drum pads, and an interwoven storyline ranging from down-low grimey bangers to shimmery mid-tempo vocal bass tracks and head-nodding disco. Her momentum is unstoppable, as she has been touring the country for the last 5 years, playing 90+ shows a year, spreading her infectious energy from stage to stage. With hits like “Zest Please," a collaboration with the iconic Clozee that amassed over 2 million Spotify plays in just one year, five EPs, and a massive sophomore LP “Ricochet” in 2022, followed by two volumes of remix albums, Maddy’s repertoire is ever-expanding, leaving fan bases across the world wanting more. Maddy O’Neal has played Coachella, Lollapalooza, Lost Lands, Electric Forest, Bonnaroo Envision, North Coast, Red Rocks (x3), and many, many more. Her touring resume is long and accomplished by supporting such artists as Clozee, Pretty Lights, Griz, Big Gigantic, Liquid Stranger, The Floozies, Opiuo, Wreckno, STS9, Manic Focus, and more!
Channeling a love affair with classic '90s hip-hop, an affinity for otherworldly themes and an ear for raw funk, Barclay Crenshaw uses his given birth name to bare his soul and deliver a slowed-down, emotive collection of collaborations and instrumentals. His 2017 self-titled debut album was a left-field departure from his better-known alias, Claude VonStroke, but the quality is undeniably the same.
This project represents a mixture of modern bass and organic beats blended with gorgeous melodic moments and underlying grittiness to create an experience that is eclectic, expressive and expansive.
Coded art and epic visuals depicting ancient alien abductions and explorations of time and space furthers the sense of mystery and the unknown, harking back to the past while gazing into the future.
In 2022, Barclay announced his hiatus from Claude VonStroke and Dirtybird to focus full time on Barclay Crenshaw.

Benn Jordan’s career began in the late 1990’s as a recording artist, most widely released under the moniker “The Flashbulb”. A decade later, Benn would become synonymous with artist advocacy after he purchased his music rights back from record labels, formed a non-profit publisher, and challenged the early models of digital music distribution by using peer-to-peer file transfers instead of iTunes. This led to Benn being a consultant for Bandcamp before the service launched in 2007.
After expanding his non-profit to carry a music education school and community center in Chicago, Benn moved to the Atlanta area in 2017 and started what has now become one of the most popular YouTube channels in the pro-audio and audio technology space. The channel now exists under Benn’s non-profit umbrella and funds data-science and the never ending challenge of finding ethical business models that can make the music business easier to navigate for artists and creators. During this time his unique relationship with audio-related businesses and organizations expanded as fast as his amount of viewers and public reach.
Benn Jordan doesn’t exactly keep it a secret that he’s discontent with the way independent artists have been treated by the tech industry, and he is very proactive about getting ahead of the curve and attempting to help write and set ethical standards for AI audio technology.

This is Thys (Thijs de Vlieger): DJ, producer and composer from the north of the Netherlands. His DJ sets are a reflection of a two-decade-long musical course. With razor- sharp and unexpected mixing, he seamlessly blends a multitude of bass heavy genres. Creating energetic waves, not afraid to make bold leaps, but never losing sight of the groove. When producing club music De Vlieger loves to mix up BPMS and moods. His recent “Shoulder To Shoulder” EP is a clear statement of intent in that regard: a love letter to club music and the intuitive feeling of togetherness that loud music in a dark room can unlock for us. But when writing music in a more “composer” role, the range stretches even wider: Repeated collaborations with Amon Tobin, a short film for Iris Van Herpen with renowned harpist Lavinia Meijer (Biomimicry), a feature film with Salvador Breed (Mycelia; unreleased at the time of writing), three scores for contemporary dance performances, writing for full symphonic orchestra and classical ensembles, and an album composed for church organ, cello and viola, with the organ recorded by De Vlieger himself (unreleased): Thys will not be tied down to one sound or genre. As a member of widely recognised electronic music trio Noisia, Thys has toured the world for decades, has collaborated with and remixed a range of top tier artists like The Prodigy and Skrillex, and scored for AAA videogames such as DMC: Devil May Cry and Motorstorm: Apocalypse. Opiuo is a genre-bending plethora of auditory and visual masterclasses. Born in 1984 in rural New Zealand, his parents provided the land upon which music festivals were held. This extremely formative growth surrounded by the early incarnations of Aotearoa’s electronic music scene exposed him to the celebration of life through self-expression, dance, and giant sound systems. These experiences shaped so much of who he is & what he stands for today. Positivity and movement at the core of the project, his music is an infectious electronic based blend of funk, soul, psychedelia, and booty-shaking bass. Now calling Australia home, Oscar tours his party-starting music throughout the globe. Having spent more than a decade performing at some of the world's most renowned festivals and venues including Lollapalooza, Glastonbury, and Coachella, as well as selling out Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre, he’s performed his music in an unimaginably large array of formats. From the self-built SYZYGY Orchestras, to symphony choirs, touring his own Opiuo Band, and most recently as an immersive solo audio & visual show, his live creativity is limitless. Taking home the New Zealand Music Award for Best Electronic Album in 2014, his catalogue is vast. Having released 4 full-length albums, 10 EPs, and a myriad of singles and remixes over the last 12 years. His 5th studio album is titled “A Shape Of Sound” and is on the way this August. Better known by his musical alias DMVU, Denver based producer Matthew Phillpot-Jones continues to etch his own indelible mark into the future of electronic music. From a young age, Jones’ always displayed an unmistakable inclination towards music. An only child of two musically gifted parents, Jones grew up in an environment in which he was constantly exposed to a diverse selection of music, and quickly learned to play the piano and drums very early on in his adolescent years. Infatuated by the hip hop culture of the late 90s and early 2000s, Jones traded in the drumsticks for a copy of FL Studio, hoping to test his hand at emulating the beats that were so instrumental during his teenage years. Citing unmistakable influence derived from the rich underground dance music scene native to Colorado, Jones soon graduated from hip-hop and redirected his artistic focus on producing bass music - a critical turning point in his ascent that ended up proving to be pivotal in the project’s life cycle.

The discography of Mux Mool may as well be a genre unto itself. Although something of an unsung hero, he’s spent the last two decades formulating a sound that has influenced an entire generation of producers.
Mux Mool’s fusion between hip-hop and electronic music exhibits an elusive cohesion of concept. His discography as a whole is greater than the sum of its parts, championed by entities including Ghostly International, Pretty Lights Music and Adult Swim.
Mux Mool is a living, breathing, eccentric artist stereotype. Born Brian Lindgren in St. Paul, Minnesota to a folk singer mother and painter father, he resonated with video game music more than anything he heard on the radio as a child. In high school he discovered electronic music acts like Chemical Brothers and Sasha & Digweed.
In 1998, he started producing music but waited until 2006 to release his first track "Lost and Found" which was named one of iTunes 'Best Electronic Songs' of that year alongside Flying Lotus & Justice. It also gained enough traction on MySpace Music to prompt none other than Bassnectar to request the stems to one of his songs. More importantly, it landed him on the radar of Moodgadget A&R.
In 2009 Mux Mool toured throughout the United States and in 2010 he released his first studio-length album, "Skulltaste" on Ghostly International. A song from the effort titled “Get Better John” remains his most successful track to date, garnering 2.5 million plays on Spotify.
From 2010 to 2011 he added tour dates alongside Bassnectar, Break Science and Lotus to his résumé. He then followed up his first release with the album "Planet High School" in 2012 and "Appetite for Production" in 2014.
More recently, Mux Mool has collaborated and performed with Derek Vincent Smith A.K.A. Pretty Lights. In addition, he and fellow producer Michael Menert went on to launch Super Best Records, signing acts including Krooked Drivers (now Maddy O'Neal) and Late Night Radio.
Mux Mool's newest album Skulltaste II dropped on July 10th, 2020.

Emerging from America’s grassroots electronic scene, EAZYBAKED is compelling listeners and contemporaries with its charismatic, contemporary take on Bass music.
Eric Ray and Andrew Principe’s bond dates back 15 years to childhood playgrounds. Following their discovery of DAWs in Senior year of highschool, the two began making beats together daily under the monikers ‘EAZY’ and ‘Mr. Baked.’ Recognizing their chemistry and ability to cocreate, Principe and Ray joined forces to become one as EAZYBAKED.
Inspired by acts like Flume, Tsuruda, and Mr Carmack, the two have created a sonic identity that is experimental, raw, and honest. They first emerged alongside Lost Dogz collective acts like sumthin’ sumthin’ and Player Dave. Today, EAZYBAKED has become a household name across the nationwide Bass scene by pushing underground music and its sonic boundaries.
To date, the duo has been booked for eclectic venues such as Red Rocks, and performed high-profile festival sets at EDC Orlando, Okeechobee Music Festival, and more. Following their biggest performance to date at Okeechobee in 2020, the global pandemic and birth of Principe’s child inspired the duo to expand their horizons. This led to the creation of the duo’s upcoming debut album, INTERTWINED, due out March 4, 2022.

Andrew Huang is a Toronto-based music and video producer with a penchant for working within absurd, self-imposed limitations. A versatile and prolific musician, he has released over 2,000 songs in a massive range of genres. He is perhaps best known for the strange feats of musicianship which have earned him over 1.9 million subscribers and 250 million views on his YouTube channel: He has rapped 300 words in a minute, composed a classical piece in the shape of a unicorn head, and covered numerous pop songs using only the sounds of items mentioned in the lyrics - for instance, "99 Red Balloons" played on red balloons. In addition, his content runs the gamut from music education to equipment reviews to interactive projects with his fans. Watch Andrew on YouTube or stream his discography on Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, or anywhere else you find music.

Anomalie is the live electronic project of Nicolas Dupuis, a keyboardist and producer based in Montreal, QC.
Rising to worldwide fame after the release of his two EPs, Metropole Part I and Part II, Dupuis begins the next stage of his career with his debut single, “Bond,” off his upcoming debut full-length album, Galerie, set for April 2022. This new chapter includes the announcement of the Galerie World Tour, featuring new arrangements with the Anomalie Live band, coming to 22+ cities all over the globe.
Galerie marks brand new sonic directions and for the first time ever, vocal collaborations - all the while staying true to the sound that has built a worldwide fanbase and remains unmistakably Anomalie. His music innovatively combines cutting-edge electronic production, jazz, and classical harmonies, virtuoso keyboard skills, and an undeniably raw funk groove connecting it all together. This places his career in a singular position. His public cosigns include an eclectic mix of music heavyweights (Charlie Puth, Chromeo, D Smoke, and Snarky Puppy), and his fanbase is a mix of the new jazz scene (Louis Cole, Keifer), the soulful beats scene (FKJ, Masego), and the post-dubstep electronic scene (Griz, Odesza).
Dupuis has a lot to reflect upon the success that got him here. By the end of 2020, Anomalie sold out two world tours (North America, European, and Asia) with his intricate 4-piece live band, grew his online following in the millions across social media, and performed at the likes of Red Rocks, Montreal Jazz Festival, and Electric Forest Festival. Most impressively, he’s achieved all of this as an independent artist.

Multifaceted British EDM producer Jon Gooch developed his Feed Me moniker in the late 2000s as a vehicle for his dubstep/electro-house hybrid tracks. Working with Deadmau5's Mau5trap imprint, Gooch's tracks of wobbly bass and scattershot drum programming evolved over a nonstop stream of singles, remixes for big-name artists like Robyn, and studio albums like 2013's Calamari Tuesday.
Born in Hertfordshire, England, in 1984, Jon Gooch first made a name for himself under the alias Spor, crafting hard-edged drum'n'bass tracks. In 2008, he debuted the Feed Me moniker and a more dubstep-leaning sound on his first track, "The Spell." Still active as Spor (and a handful of other aliases), Gooch's work as Feed Me was largely released on the Deadmau5-run label Mau5trap. His first full-length album, Feed Me's Big Adventure, materialized in 2010, and new tracks came at a steady clip in the form of new singles or EP releases like 2011's To the Stars and 2012's Escape from Electric Mountain. He also increased his profile by remixing the likes of Chase & Status ("Let You Go"), Nero ("Innocence"), Gorillaz ("On Melancholy Hill"), and Robyn ("Call Your Girlfriend").
Calamari Tuesday, his second album, was released in 2013 via Gooch's own Sotto Voce imprint. Over the next four years, he averaged a new EP each year beginning with Feed Me's Psychedelic Journey (2014), followed by A Giant Warrior Descends on Tokyo (2015), Feed Me's Family Reunion (2016), and Feed Me's Existential Crisis (2017). He also collaborated with American producer Kill the Noise on the 2014 single "Far Away." In 2019, third full-length High Street Creeps arrived, this time back on Mau5trap. By this time, Gooch's style had developed from the dubstep trendiness of his earliest work into more varied and quick-changing compositions that included nods to his drum'n'bass background.

Starting off with keyboards as an infant, G-Space taught himself how to improvise on the piano throughout the years. G-Space has created his own distinct sound that grazes multiple genres, such as; world, funk, jazz, trap, glitch, and bass. He tends to play a set that consists mainly of his originals and the rest is filled with close friends’ music and other artists that he looks up to. Having inspirations from Jimmy Hendrix, Eprom, Mr. Carmack, The Grateful Dead, Shlump, Smith., Bleep Bloop, Boogie T, Pretty Lights and many more, G-Space has nested his way into quickly becoming one of the most interesting acts in the scene.
Not only does he play on multiple instruments and create amazing electronic music to match it, he has added a unique visual aspect to his performance. It’s called ‘Tricking’ which by definition, is a style “of extreme sport where the “athletes” do cool, fast, beautiful flips and kicks without any wires or trampolines,” (Defined from Urban Dictionary.) While playing the keytar on stage he is able to do a backflips and other insanely physically demanding and talented tricking skills. Having this special type of performance has been getting him recognized by many, as he has played Imagine Festival, Ultra Festival, and has just recently finished his ‘Euro-Trip Tour’ which spanned across several countries in Europe.

The man named after the land with 10,000 lakes has been a force on the bass scene for nearly a decade. Although he’s made a name for himself in the electronic music space, Minnesota’s (aka Christian Bauhofer) musical journey started with heavy doses of classic rock, emo and screamo. He was heavily influenced by the psychedelic style of rock legends including Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin and cites them as inspiration for what would become his own sound. “The songs were journeys and I really like the epicness and the trip the song took you on,” he says. Spending most of his early life in Minnesota, It was not until Christian relocated to Santa Cruz, California in 2007 where he first discovered the underground electronic music scene via renegade parties that would be thrown in the redwoods of the Santa Cruz mountains. “That community / subculture was really my main influence into the music. A lot of other artists were immersed in the Santa Cruz community like G Jones, The Glitch Mob and Eprom. Crews would bring out a generator, Dj equipment and a few lights and play music until 10AM. We were really blown away.” Christian would soon throw his own renegade parties in Santa Cruz to provide himself with a forum to DJ. “I wanted to play music, but could never get booked, so I teamed up with some friends and we started to throw are own parties. I feel very lucky to have experienced this underground scene before electronic music and hit the mainstream.”

Mick Gordon is a composer and sound designer whose compositions aim to transcend the perceptual boundary between music and its context. Mick’s work considers the role of music as a translation of the world in which it exists rather than a simple accompaniment. Through creativity, interpretation and collaboration he develops a meaningful exchange between the visual world and music culminating in the authorship of a unified original work of art.
Mick utilizes a broad range of modern musical sound design and traditional composition techniques in order to be unconstrained by any singular genre. His music is inspired by the connection between the audience and the experience and seeks to overcome the separation between music and the world in which it exists.
Recently, Mick scored the video game DOOM - the return of id Software’s seminal first-person shooter. To illustrate the game’s portrayal of Hell and its insidious power he explored the role of energy in sound production and how the physical properties of analogue equipment can be imparted onto digital sources. His award-winning interactive score for Microsoft’s reboot of KILLER INSTINCT featured a myriad of performers from around the globe. Mick collaborated with a viking choir in Sweden, representatives of the Nez Perce tribe in Idaho and numerous other performers, vocalists, lyricists and translators to produce its Amazon best-selling soundtrack.
Mick’s score for the video game, WOLFENSTEIN: THE NEW ORDER interweaves modern musical sound design techniques with 1960s style record production. He synthesised field recordings and transformed them into new physically playable instruments to create unique musical palettes. The score explores the role of distortion as a modern musical device. The process of overdriving various pieces of analogue equipment into extremes to create tension was used to represent the game’s chaotic villain, Deathshead. Additionally, to musically represent the rebellious plight of the heroes against their oppressors, Mick utilised vintage instruments, microphones and recording equipment to create music inspired by protest and freedom movement songs of the 1960s.

The sonic counterpart to roaring robotic futurism, Reso’s hybrid of rising ambience, hyper beats and speaker busting tech-basslines feels more suited to a post-apocalyptic Tokyo than the contemporary concrete of most bass music. A truly inspiring experience.
Reso is simultaneously moving a whole spectrum of electronic genres forward while further cementing his place as the overlord of hi-tech left-field bass music. With Reso, wobble, hypercrunk, breaks, wonky, hip-hop and DnB all receive the treatment. Reso’s deep musicality, incredible skill, intricate programming and wildly diverse references place him at the peak of a new breed of electronic producers.
Having come through from the early dubstep scene in 2007, crossed over into drum and bass with Hospital Records in 2015 and now being a firm part of the forward-thinking SLUG WIFE crew in 2020, Reso is a shape shifting chameleon who can be hard to pin down but never disappoints with his musical explorations.

The convergence of exotic sound design and raw psychedelic intensity finds a home in the musical creations of American bass producer Andrew Bryant, aka Hullabalo0. Drawing upon nearly two decades of immersion in the musical world as a listener, musician, beatmaker, DJ, and producer, he has carved a growing niche for himself in the rough-and-tumble world of underground electronica with his provocative fusion of arpeggiated and glitch-tinged, 808-driven, Neuro-style bass music. With a potent discography of releases, remixes, and collaborations that have placed him at the helm of some of the country’s most celebrated psychedelic music events, Hullabalo0 brings a shapeshifting quality to the bass realm that continues to mutate with each musical incarnation.

In the fallout from the grooming allegations against Lorin Ashton, a.k.a. Bassnectar, which led to his subsequent retirement from music, two longtime collaborators, Mimi Page and ill.Gates, released an open letter and a personal video, respectively, detailing their acknowledgement of the victims and their stories, but also revealing their own stories about Ashton’s pattern of co-opting, passing off as his own, mis-crediting, and ultimately capitalizing on the music of smaller artists in the industry. This clout-based hegemony at the upper reaches of electronic music culture has been a topic Bill has wanted to discuss for a long time, so we were laser-focused on bringing Mimi and Dylan on to discuss. Both Mimi Page and ill.Gates are fans of the work of RAINN, which has been helping victims of abuse for 25 years, and we encourage anyone who has the means to donate to this incredible organization that helps victims directly: rainn.org ill.Gates YouTube Video addressing current Bassnectar allegations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xazfpfbQ6b4&feature=youtu.be Mimi Page's open letter to Bassnectar: https://mimipagemusic.tumblr.com/post/624224339345244160/an-open-letter-to-lorin-ashton-bassnectar-from
