This special bonus episode on The Muscle Car Place is brought to you live from the Holley Moparty 2024 produced by FM3 event services at the Beech Bend raceway in Bowling Green Kentucky! All of your favorite show hosts and co-hosts loaded up and drove out to the birthplace of new Corvettes and the global headquarters of Holley Performance Products to see the fifth annual gathering of Mopar enthusiasts. Many old and new Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler, AMC, and Jeep vehicles were there showing off just how unique this crowd can be. We got to show up and interview some of the interesting people there and bring it to you to get an idea of how the whole event went down.
This year the whole gang was able to get together and just hang out and have a great time with cars. Cody Young (@CodyCrafted ), Garrett Daniels (RnDFabworks.com), Nathan Warren (@warren_customs_llc ), Corndog, Bernie, and myself roamed around the Moparty event checking out the Drag Racing, Autocross, Swap meet and the amazing show cars. We got so much content that we put it into two shows. You can check it out on the Kibbe and Friends show episode 307 where we talk about the event and we interview the one and only Daisy Duke, Ms Catherine Bach! We met up with her only inches away from the "Kibbe Lee" and discussed the show and her life with the questions every Dukes fan wants to know.

It is JULY and time for another riveting Ask Rick segment where I ask him the tough questions! Happy Independence Day and make sure you stay safe with the fireworks. The Fourth is when we celebrate our independence and our freedom from oppression of the English monarchy by blowing up some stuff! This month I askeded Rick what his most memorable family tradition around this holiday and then I traveled with him down memory lane where he recalled his younger days and the early start of NPD. Growing up inside the All American business wasn't always what it appears to be on the outside...and there are lessons to learn here about tenacity and the true cost of success. We also reviewed about all American vehicles to buy (for lest that $25,000) and hold for the best ROI in 5 years. Here's a hint: Lil' Red Express!

This week I had the extreme pleasure to once again talk to Vintage Air President Rick Love. Vintage Air has been a long time sponsor of this show, and chances are you have a Vintage Air system (or many Vintage Air parts) in your current ride. Their name is synonymous with hot rod air conditioning (and heating), much like Kleenex is to tissues! As always though the company is only a representation of the people behind it and in it and Rick Love has been there since 1998 earning the company awards for service, support and technology!

It is June and time for another riveting Ask Rick segment where I ask him the tough questions! The big event for the month is Flag Day! It is also the start of summer and time for vacations and traveling around to see this great country of ours or maybe another country. This month we dug into the realities of shipping to international customers (by the container load), the retirements of BIG names at Dodge and Chevy, and the value of a 4-year college degree in automotive education. The we followed it up by guessing at the best vehicles to buy for the summer - to use as parade vehicles - that you could sell at the end and make a great ROI!
It is the fifteenth year for The Muscle Car Place Podcast and it has come a long ways since it's lowly beginnings and I thank you, the listener of coming along on the journey. This week marks the fifteenth anniversary of The Musclecar Place podcast and all of the adventures that have ensued since then. Fifteen years ago I had a dream to start a radio show where I could talk about fast classic cars and meet people that build, race or buy and sell those vehicles. The one "guest" that has been on the show more than any of them, and has had a bigger impact than all of them, is Jeff Allison. Jeff is the one that stepped up and took a huge chance and changed both of our lives forever. In this interview we take a trip down memory lane and recollect how we met and built a race car that went to SEMA and made a family out of a podcast.

It's once again is the quarterly Pro-Touring Update, Presented by Ron Francis Wiring, and normally starring Mr. Larry Callahan! BUT, Due to unforeseen circumstances we have a special guest host, Mr. Tom Farrington!
Tom has been on the show before way back in Episode #62 and a quick search of the internet returns many other interviews and articles ever since then. He and his wife Debbie are mainstays at Pro-Touring tracks and has a vast knowledge of the ins and outs of racing and attending these events. We asked Tom to give this quarter's update due to his high lack of participation in events. Basically, Tom's in the know!
*********
Be sure to stay all the way to the end on this one.....because our favorite firstborn kid is just about to graduate from high school. Emily will be attending Drake University this fall to study education and minor in music. Her birth was the big reason I knew I needed to find a new way to do life to achieve all of the dreams we wanted to attempt...and TMCP was one of the outcomes of that. Long story short, if you dig these shows, you have her to thank. Congrats, Em!

Our intrepid producer Bernie McPartland caught up with TV personality and voice of MECUM Auctions on The MotorTrend Network, John Kraman. This week I spoke to Tom Scarpello, President and founder of Revology in his facility in Orlando Florida! Revology is seemingly doing the impossible; creating a profitable company that survives (and thrives) by bringing a single classic Mustang platform into a 21st Century as a capable daily-driver by modern standards. There are a few other companies doing things like Revology, but to my knowledge this is the only company striving to be good at the "boring" stuff like reducing wind noise, squeaks, rattles, and creating high end comfortable interiors from OEM stock materials. Their door gaps are specifically set for long term use - not just awesome looking floor appeal. They're building the quality of cars far closer to a new Porsche than a Pro-Touring old Mustang. For all of this, I had to see it in person!

This week I spoke to Jono Shaw, President of Hemmings Motor News, to find out more about the new buying service called the "Frictionless Marketplace." For anyone who has bought a car online sight unseen it can be a little unnerving when you "win" the auction and are then left to figure out how to get the car legally, safely, and paid for without the fear of getting completely ripped off. To put it bluntly, this service is meant to put some teeth to the "wild-west" that has become common in buying a car line and put Hemmings into the mix to prevent the possibility of fraud.

Rick's Take on the Presidential Election 2024:
Every four years we experience a Leap year and another round of picking a new president. With this event comes another round of presidential ads, throwing of mud, and an substantial amount of finger pointing. I have heard many times in the past from suppliers regarding their outlook on the future around an election cycle and many will stop any unnecessary spending based on the uncertainly of the outcome of an election. Some will even cut out expensive trade shows (SEMA included) that they would normally attend in an attempt to save up for the rainy day they believe is headed their way.
I decided to ask Rick what his experiences were regarding this phenomenon. NPD is run very conservatively and keeps higher than normal reserves for low times and fluctuations in the market so Ricks response was very interesting. He said that he does indeed notice a flattening in sales in relation to a Presidential election. That said, it's not just at election time, but over the whole election year. It seems like everyone gets nervous and holds back on spending. Once the whole thing is over and the parties have been decided, Rick says that people generally go back to buying for their hobbies and it is back to business as usual.

This week I have the pleasure to talk to long time friend of the show, Jason Engel. At SEMA 2023 I learned that Jason had entered the consulting business and was also he representative to vet licensure requirements for Shelby!
What was he consulting in, specifically? Well....consulting in the entire process of owning, operating, producing, marketing, and leading a production car business where the production car is unique to the business itself. In addition, it might be a car that needs to be licensed by an OEM or other "Hollywood" style entities. Examples include companies like Classic Recreations (which he founded), Revology, Velocity Restorations, Anything Scout, etc. In a nutshell, Jason was taking on clients to teaching them the business of PROFITABLY running such a venture. For this, I needed a full length interview...and this is out!

It is hard to believe that in May of 2024 it will have been fifteen years since I carved out a hole in my basement and started recording this podcast! Many listeners have tuned in and followed along as I met people from all across the automotive world and simply asked the questions we all wanted to know about business and cars. I had no idea that 15 years later I'd still be in the business, nor did I have a clue what a life defining thing this would become. In a nutshell, this podcast (and you) have changed my life.
I am blessed to have started the show during the pre-podcast boom and have been able to use it to go places and see things that were far above my punching weight. I've had backstage passes, met stars, and attended events with all of you listeners along for the ride. I've raised a family along with way too, lost a parent, and had the chance to build and drive cars with my best friends. You have given back to me with friendship and support for chasing my dreams while creating a place we all can enjoy, The Muscle Car Place.
Many great and exciting things have happened since that start but one of my most memorable was getting to talk to the King himself, Richard Petty. At the time the "new" Challenger was still fairly new, and who knew it would go on for another twelve years and the most amazing cars that were not even imagined yet. It was pretty exciting to see Daytonas once again on the streets, even if in limited numbers, as Petty Garage made special editions of the Challenger with the iconic nose and wing of the NASCAR heydays. I did get to ask him about his racing career and recorded every glorious second of the conversation in Episode #76 way back in 2011.
In every great sitcom there is the throwback episode where they queue the wobbly lines and memories from previous episodes come back based on a vague story line. This week the throwback episode, is my interview with Richard Petty. Enjoy!

Dan Kahn is a well known name in the automotive PR and marketing world and Kahn Media is (in my opinion) is the leader in that space. I've known Dan for years and have always found him to have a great understanding of our industry as well as the ability to read the tea leaves on what's coming next. Long time listeners will remember our time together on a podcast called "Cars for a Living" and I asked him to return today for a "crystal ball plus the state of the nations" type discussion in regards to the upcoming 2023 SEMA Show! If there's one thing the Kahn team knows well it's the automotive aftermarket.

I'm happy to say that the gamble was worth it! It is September and football is back!!! It is also time for another riveting Ask Rick segment were I ask him the tough questions that not everyone wants to hear. As always Rick delivers sage advice and wisdom founded in years of buying and selling classic vehicles. When it comes to cars as investment, possibly a with a great ROI, Rick has strong opinions and advice here. Can it be done? Short answer; yes! Should it be done? Long answer......maybe.
As with all things, it depends what you understand and where you can make your gain on the purchase of the car initially. For Rick and his dad, their collection has immense value today of course, but every car in inventory was chosen for it's specialness to the Schmidt's not as a hedge on a great investment. They chose high quality low mile original cars and didn't just stick to muscle cars. Their collection has many examples of unique rare American cars that have less than 1000 miles (think Rivieras, Eldorado's, and Lincoln's).. Some have interiors with the delivery plastic still in place! Others are beautifully restored treasures. Today, it's paid off. Technically, it could payoff if they ever chose to sell....which they almost never do!

This special bonus episode on The Muscle Car Place is brought to you live once again from the streets of Pontiac, Michigan! Our journeyman reporter Scott Stap was roadside at Woodard Avenue where the streets were closed and setup for LEGAL street drag racing at the annual RoadKill Nights event, presented by Dodge. Every year this event brings action, excitement, and new automotive experiences to Michigan (and visitors from other Midwestern states) automotive enthusiasts!
This episode is from "press day" where grudge match racers were introduced to reveal their drag race cars. Friday was a media only event and Scott was able to get his recorder and microphones in to talk to more Dodge insiders for a behind the scenes look at how the "donuts" of a muscle-car-loving OEM are actually. This was before Roadkill Nights opened to the public and there were a lot of people to talk to in a short period of time. He talked to old friends that have been on the show before as well as interviewing new guests that provided different angles and aspects of how Dodge designs and sells new muscle.

Live From RoadKill Nights 2023: Special Feature! Scotty Stap was onsite to talk to the OEM Dodge Boys While Drag Racing On The Streets Of Woodward Ave In Pontiac Michigan. This special feature episode on The Muscle Car Place is brought to you live from the streets of Pontiac Michigan. We were road side at Woodard Avenue where they closed the road and setup a drag strip for the event called RoadKill Nights. Every year RoadKill nights brings action, excitement, and new automotive experiences to Michigan (and other midwestern states) automotive enthusiasts. This year was no exception!
The main difference in the event this year was that they moved North from its typical M1 Concourse location up to one block off from Downtown Pontiac. The car show was actually held on the streets of the famous southern Michigan town. This made the main event area a little tight and the Thrill Ride cars were ALWAYS sideways. As a result the ride itself was shorter but it was still a great event for 2023.
Our on the scene reporter Scott Stap was lucky enough to catch up with some old friends from Dodge and Stellantis who were on the "inside" track of all of the outgoing Chargers and Challengers. He also got some insight on the new Charger (electric) to come. That said, this was the final chance to talk about Dodge's outgoing Last Call vehicles.Enjoy!

This week on The Muscle Car Place is a great interview with Jason Chandler, Director of Marketing at Auto Metal Direct (known in the industry as "AMD". As of late I noticed that AMD had released some of the "un-ob-tanium" parts for '68 and '69 Charger restorations, nearly to the point that a person could build an entirely new car from scratch. This peaked my interest, so I asked Jason for the details. It turns out that you nearly could build one of those cars now.....as well as a few others (and trucks), all from new metal! '69 Camaros and Square-body Chevy trucks are both good to go, and a few others are close as well. I needed the details!
Listener mail: Rob, A few years ago I shared with you my goals and plans for my Tesla powered 1940 Chevrolet. It is August and time for hot August nights and some of the greatest car shows ever! Thousands of people will dig out their cherished vehicles this month and attend massive gatherings such as the Woodward Dream Cruise. When you get that many people in once place accidents will happen and you need to make sure your insurance is correct. In this edition of Ask Rick, I inquire as to what insurance Rick uses and how he knows it will cover his needs. It's a boring topic...but one we all need to get right more than ever.

This week on The Muscle Car Place is with a great industry insider Mike Good, the CEO of Dynamat! I enjoy learning about the science and history of brands that I have used before, an Dynamat is one I've used numerous times for numerous reasons. I always new it to be in the sound deadening space because all of the guys in my high school used it in their "thumper" cars with the huge stereos. I've used it for different reasons on my cars; specifically heat abatement (headers are hot). This was my chance to learn the brand and the tech in one shot!
Mike has a long history of business leadership at the executive level across a number of different genres, even academia. He was previously the CMO of FinishMaster (automotive paints) and started a communications company that was really good at tracking things through software and GPS. He has been interested in cars his whole life and has been in the industry for decades. Today he's proud to be the leader of Dynamat, a place that can tinker with car products (and other things) day in and day out.

It is July and and time for all of the great summertime activities like fireworks, trips to the beach, and summer car shows! This month the show went completely off the rails from what was planned but that is a great thing for YOU! We covers many great topics from best car detailing practices, to when is a great to to delegate work, and even touching on why the 1984 Toyota Celica GT is such a great car. Stay tuned and listen in as Rick speaks the truth in no uncertain terms about the topics you love to ask to hear.

This week on The Muscle Car Place is an extra "4th-of-the-month" bonus episode that I simply could not wait until next month to share! I spoke with Todd Liebelt who not only races autocross (as I like to do) but has built an almost identical in appearance Chevelle to mine. I say almost because Todd was able to make the changes in his car, that after years of ownership I now wish I had made to mine. Our paths have never crossed before, but somehow we have generated two cars that are certainly really close siblings!
Ten years ago I made some decisions on how to build my Chevelle. Since the car has been built I have had some great driving opportunities but I have wondered how it would have been if I had built it just a little differently. Specifically, I've always been curious about the chassis and if it would have been better to go with a full replacement instead of (as we did) modifying the factory GM frame and then adding great bolt-on suspension options on.
I also wonder how would it have handled on the track if I had bigger tires, especially up front where I've run out of grip time and time again? Well, luckily for me I have been presented with the unique opportunity to talk to Todd who has an almost identical car ....except that he made the choices I did not and has the inside scoop on if it was worth it. Basically, by speaking with Tood I have the chance to go back in time and learn what the "other path not taken" would have been like (and if I should take it now).

This week, I have the outstanding privilege of of introducing a brand new podcast on The MuscleCar Place Network. It's called "Factorish" and is hosted by my great friends Kirk Hansen and Zip Simons. This new show is an all new concept for us, and one that Kirk has pioneered, with Zip providing the insight that only a hot rod shop owner can. It's a full talk show, built for YouTube and audio podcast release but featuring automotive reviews and drives as well. Think of it like The MuscleCar Place, combined with My Classic Car, combined with Entrepreneur magazine.

It is June and finally the start of summer is upon us (technically it's June 21st...but who's counting). The recent Mecum auction ended with some very interesting surprises and apparently some gossip and fallout after the bidding was all done. I Asked Rick what he thought about the prices and investment quality of the offerings this year as well as his take on some cars that I was considering until the prices went up!

This week our guest was Topher McGinnis, otherwise known as the "Headlight Motor man." He is the person in the vast world of "MOPAR hidden headlight restoration" and has found a unique way to service a very specific segment of the restoration industry. I didn't ask him specifically about non MOPAR applications, but I'm sure he'd be willing to help give advice one way or the other!

As always though the company is only a representation of the people behind it and in it. Rick Love has been there since 1998, but has an even deeper history than that with the company.

May is here and car shows are starting up across the nation. Also Cinco de Mayo and Memorial day are around the corner and the official start of summer is near. I hope you have your car out or your project almost done to a point where you can drive it and enjoy the warmer weather. This time I decided to once again Ask Rick about six cars from two different categories. The first set of cars are of "pedigree"and have either a track record or history that makes them special. The other category is $10k starter cars that are ready to go out and make some summer memories. Ricks take on these is always clear and to the point.

April is here and Easter is upon us! For some of us, Spring brings on the need to get out our cars and get them ready for driving. For others it is the time to look for a project car to work on since it is now warm enough to spend hours in the garage or driveway bringing it back to life. This time I decided to Ask Rick about not just three but SIX cars to get his take on; 3 were crusty (but promising) restoration projects, and 3 were terrific (and affordable) examples of 3rd generation Pontiac Firebirds/Trans Ams that might be good fits for my son to take on. However, we started by addressing some thought listener questions on business: promoting and dismissing employees.

This week we are joined by car building royalty, the world famous Ring Brothers! We typically interview the Rings each year at SEMA, but at SEMA 2022 they had a "surplus" of vehicles on display (4)....and they were so busy accepting accolades and competing in the Builder of the Year competition (which they won) that we were never able to connect onsite. This is the long overdue follow up! As with all things, it was worth the wait. For the first time we were able to have a discussion about not only what they had a SEMA 2022 but how the two brothers from Wisconsin went from working construction, to owning a small gas station (for 7 months), to where they are today.

Happy New Year and welcome to 2023! It is once again time to talk with Rick about the burning questions of New Year's goals, blue chip muscle cars, and the best the restoration market will continue to grow (likely trucks). Unfortunately, as most of you have likely already heard, the death of Ken Block is where the initial focus of this episode is dedicated. Ken left a legacy in our work akin to Dale Earnhardt in some way, and he defined the pursuit of passion. He had two entirely different careers in founding DC Shoes and Hoonigan, and he is one person who will always leave an impression on all of us who are following in his footsteps. In the end though, he was a man who had a wife and three children, all of whom are now without him. Our sincere condolences and prayers go out to all of them.

This week marks the return of friend and listener favorite Mike Finnegan! Mike is an all around great dude, loved in the automotive entertainment industry, and was the original co-host of the Kibbe and Finnegan Podcast Show (which became Kibbe and Friends in 2019). This week marks the end of the second phase of our sister show "The Kibbe and Friends Show" where we reviewed the final episode of all 7 seasons of The Dukes of Hazzard. Since Mike helped it all begin, I asked him on to celebrate hitting the big milestone. (Kibbe and Friends isn't going away however, now we get to go back and hit all of the early episodes that Corndog loved most....and maybe build a few more Dukes stunt cars!)

Happy September! Football is here and we can let the Fall celebrations begin. I once again got to catch up to Rick Schmidt from National Parts Depot to ask the burning questions that are on your mind to get his opinion on the burning questions we need to know most. Specifically, pulling VIN tags off of clunkers for a restoration, and Rick's take on buying a 2023 HEMI car as an investment hedge! (To cut to the chase on the HEMI cars; Rick's take is to skip the hype and pick up when in a few years. They'll be plentiful and a better deal.)

Welcome to Part 2 of our 2022 Dodge Reveals and Roadkill Nights coverage! We had so many great opportunities to speak with Dodge insiders that a second *Bonus* show was required to fit it all in. As with Episode 514, if you love inside OEM info on Dodge cars and marketing, this episode will leave you a little mind blown. Dodge insiders from the marketing brands and vehicle designers give great information about upcoming models as well as hints about what the future could bring. This episode is capped off with Herman Young, Dodge Demon drag racer and YouTuber. For people that want drag racing setup insight, listen twice!

If you love inside OEM info on Dodge cars and marketing, this episode will leave you a little mind blown. The title photo you see above is that of the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona Banshee SRT Prototype. He witnessed the reveal in person. It's AWD, all electric, does make "exhaust" noise (of some kind), and is probably lights out fast. Regardless of where you stand on electric cars....it's outstanding looking for sure!

This week I spoke to Rick Katzeff, CEO of ExoMod. Their company is creating all new "1968 Charger bodies and applying them to brand new Hellcat Dodge Challenger shells. The end result is a new creation that drives and performs like a new car, but with the looks of the classics. Seems easy enough, right?

Ask Rick: As the electric offerings from car makers increase, we couldn't help but discuss the fact that Ford, GM, and Chrysler all have unbelievably higher performing new"real engine" offerings. Ford brought the V8 back to the 2023 Raptor, Chevy just released their first flat-crank engine ever in the new Corvette Z06, and Dodge is continuing to rank #1 in customer satisfaction for their HEMI vehicles. And with all of that said....Ford and GM as well (as other manufacturers) are talking about letting employees go to afford to develop electric cars in a long term bid to get fully into the non gasoline market. What gives?

This week I have the honor of interviewing Branden Leeb and Mike Carnahan of Elite Tuned and Elite Tuning School to explain the process of remotely - and iteratively - tuning fuel injected engines. Their specialty is GM Gen III, IV, and V engines and they recently they have added in both MOPAR and Ford tuning capability as well. Recently I had Elite tune my Chevelle when Zip Simons at Street Metal Concepts told me he used their services often. Man...was he ever right! In my case, they gave better results than I had received from two different shops that ran the car on a dyno. I was amazed at the compete difference in drivability and power delivery after the process was complete and I had to get an interview to find out the secret sauce that made such a difference.

Holley Performance puts on some amazing events that people look forward to every year, all of which kicked off with the "OG" event called LS Fest. At that event any vehicle that had a General Motors LS engine was allowed, regardless of make, model, creed, color, or religion! Other events soon followed including LS Fest West in Las Vegas and this year LS Fest Texas at the Texas Motor Speedway!
Luckily for us we were able to send out the dynamic duo of Producer Bernie McPartland and YouTube star and performance vehicle magician Cody Young from Cody Crafted. The boys had only one goal: get some great interviews before the heat melted them to the asphalt. They had success and we have three feature interview to present in this week's show: SAM Tech Automotive Machining School - Mike Hepp Top Fuel Racing With A Cause - Blane Burnett, Creating a New LS Fest!

Many years ago I was in the middle of a surreal experience of realizing the dream of building my parents car, that I grew up in, into an auto-cross machine that was made better than I ever imagined. I met lifetime friends that donated time to make the dream happen. Street Metal Concepts turned the metal handiwork of Jeff Allison, into the gleaming, flawless paint, perfectly gapped, SEMA Show car that it became.
Almost 10 years later my Chevelle is back at Street Metal Concepts for a few tweaks and updates so I wanted to check in with Street Metal Concepts to see how things are going, what life lessons they have learned, and to catch up with my buddy Zip Simons!

Happy May! Rick Schmidt is back again for an all new Ask Rick segment, this time devoted to the future of new American performance cars .... specifically the Corvette and the Mustang. Both of those iconic cars have a new "electric" version available along with an amazing gasoline variant....at least for now. American buying habits started changing long before the high gas prices and inflation surges we are experiencing now. As Rick pointed out, in the case of the Mustang (the "Mach-E" SUV, specifically) it's only crime is bringing many new first-time customers to Ford! At the same time, it would appear that the gasoline powered Camaro's, Challengers, and Chargers are all on borrowed time. What does the future hold?

This week I spoke to Colby Martin of the SEMA Action Network to get all of the nitty gritty details on the Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act. The news of the act finally being able to move forward after 7 long years of it becoming law has been huge! Specifically, it now means that a licensed replica vehicle manufacturer can build up to 325 replica "classic" cars per year! Unlike current replica and "kit" cars, the customer can purchase it fully completed (running/driving) and register it in their own state accordingly. It'll look and feel just like the original, but there is one catch; it has to be emissions compliant with "modern standards!" Clear as mud, right? Colby was here to sort out the minutia of it all.

Happy April Fools Day! Believe it or not, but we don't have any fun pranks to pull for you this year....but it absolutely IS time for another insightful, thoughtful, and surprising edition of Ask Rick! This time took a deep dive on the topic a LOT of you want to know more about: the SEMA Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act. The law itself was passed in 2015, but it took over six years (and a second SEMA lawsuit) to get the NHTSA to finally give the ruling needed to make it a reality. It now us, and manufacturers can begin the process of producing up to 325 cars per year.....legally, at least.

Our guest this week is once again the man who is the master of changing his life to do amazing things, Jon Chase! Jon is a well known name in the auto-verse and I must admit that I was a little shocked when he announced he was leaving HOONIGAN to resume his own art brand, DSTROYR. The goal though was specifically around raising awareness for children's mental health. I asked him on the show to shed some light, and he agreed!

Spring is just around the corner and that means it is finally time for a new Pro-Touring Update with Mr. Larry Callahan! It has been six months since our last full update and it is very good to talk and catch up. He let me know that big things are changing but not with the website or his cars. Larry is moving! He found a house with land for his wife to grow animals and plants as well as the added benefit of room for a hoist and room for cars. He figures he can lift a full size truck over his head and save himself the pain of crawling on the floor to work on cars. I asked if this was going to affect the website due to moving the servers and he settled that real quick by clarifying that the server was never at his house and in the hands of a professional service.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day! With the launch of a new month it's time to bring Rick Schmidt back on for another session of Ask Rick. As you may have noticed, in the premier marketing event of the year (i.e. the Super Bowl) all of the car companies focused solely on advertising their new electric offerings. Chevy went quite far on their new EV Silverado with some - admittedly - really engaging advertisements (we are suckers for Austin Powers).
As this trend seems inevitable, and with the proliferation of new electric car brands popping up all over, and I wanted to get Rick's opinion on whether we were about to see a new round of automobile manufacturers join the market as they did when electric cars existed with various companies in the early 20th Century. History does tend to repeat itself, right? Should we make a speculative bet on buying and holding any of these new cars for future collector value?

Our guest this week is Bob Broderdorf. Bob is the Director of North American Dodge Operations and an all around Mopar performance guy! Dodge has been sharing and promoting the "Never Lift" campaign where over 24 months they will show where the brand is headed and why it is great to be a Dodge fan. In this interview he'll give the details on what it is, how it works, and how you can get HIRED for a one year gig with a huge paycheck, a Hellcat to drive, and all the Dodge events you could swing a stick at!
Daytona 500 Movie Prep: Talladega Nights! Note: In prep for the upcoming Daytona 500 we are including a rebroadcast of our review of the movie Talladega Nights. This was originally presented in Episode 120 of the Kibbe and Friends Show.

Our guest this week is Chris Holstrom from Chris Holstrom Concepts. Chris is a long time friend of the show and his shop is known for creating some of the most beautiful, award winning, and subtle muscle cars and customs around. He recently represented a client's gorgeous 1964 Corvette at the Barrett Jackson auction in Scottsdale.....and in his words he "learned a lot" from it in regards to how the process of selling at a highly watched auction works! In this episode he's going to share the lessons he learned, good, bad, etc. as well as what he plans to do when he does it all again (and he's going to).

Love is in the air and Valentines day is upon us. This time on Ask Rick, we dive into a subject we love .... and that is (potentially) buying more old gasoline powered classic cars. Rick recently attended the Kissimmee Mecum auction with good intentions of bidding on a few examples. He remarked that the prices were huge and the numbers blew right past what he planned on and kept skyrocketing. In previous episodes Rick said he believes that gas powered collectible cars will go up in value as new options start to dwindle being replaced by silent electric offerings.

This week marks the return of an old friend and former co-podcaster, Tony Whatley. Tony has the street cred most us seek first: he has great taste in cars! That said, Tony likes reeeeeaallllyyy nice cars (and trucks) and he likes growing his own businesses to be able to enjoy the spoils thereof. He's not shy about cutting to the point: if you want to have big car (or any) dreams that require a lot of money to acquire, you'd better find a way to generate a lot of money! More importantly though, Tony's focus on his own (and now other people's) businesses is taking something that's growing to the next level. He's used his own principles on himself, and his latest "fun car" (a new RAM TRX) is proof.

Happy New Year! Long time listeners know that I like to start each year with a great passion to career business story. My goal for this episode was to identify a company manufacturing their own small volume "niche" parts and to discuss their process entirely, with lessons learned. This year I got to meet Peter Bergman, the owner and creator of Bergman Autocraft. Peter's company develops niche parts (I bought one) vets and resells other components, and performs restorations. He has a niche business, completely by choice. He was the perfect candidate!

The SEMA Show is back for 2021 and I decided to send two guests hosts out to Vegas for a week to get interviews. This decision has resulted in some interesting and diverse guests quizzed by these two "wanna be" podcast stars. As a reset, this will be the first of several podcasts we'll release through December featuring great interviews from SEMA.
Our two interviewers were Kirk Hansen and Scott Stap. You know Kirk Hansen as a long time show friend and supporter, as well as Scott Stap show writer from previous shows. These two hit the booths at SEMA and met up with old friends of the show as well as some great new companies to talk to. Armed with a mic and a camera they brought back content just for you from the wilds of Las Vegas!

It is the first week of November, Thanksgiving is upon us, and it's time for another great Ask Rick segment! Rick and his father Jim curated an impressive car collection by purchasing what they liked more than what was "in demand," but in this discussion we'll learn that their first desire was to buy the best car possible, not the best one available. There's a difference!
We also have one last interview to present from the Holley MOPARTY event a few weeks ago. Garrett Daniels at RND Fab Works came on to discuss how he created the totally functional; "General Lee Hoop" roll bar. How does one make a functional 2 point roll bar suitable for race belts? Easy....make it a 4-point bar with a removable cross bar as well!

This week will be a very short show as I am occupied with an event that I hoped would never come, but knew it someday would. My father, Dallas Kibbe, passed away from multiple issues that eventually the doctors could not overcome and he left this world to be with my God and my mom. I loved the time I spent with my dad and he left his mark on my life and his grandkids lives as well as many around him. He always encouraged my passion for vehicles and loved the shows I created with my friends. The last couple days were a special gift and I did get to use the Chevelle to bring back memories for him even if he was not strong enough to take one last ride.
Thank you listeners, for the amazing support in this time of grief. The show will be back soon and on track so thank you for this short intermission as I spend time with close family and friends.
Thank you Dad, for all of the lessons in life and for being my best friend!
-Rob Kibbe

It is also time for another impactful and insightful Ask Rick segment with our friend Rick Schmidt. In this episode we broach the exciting topic of what exactly is Rick's favorite candy bar? Larry Callahan is back for the fall quarterly Pro-Touring Update for 2021!
Good News: Larry's '68 Camaro named MotiV8r is finally coming home. The iconic Camaro has been down and getting updated for quite awhile. Larry admits it has been down longer than he wanted it to be and is taking more parts than was planned. It is currently having an LSA E-Rod engine and transmission being installed.
Bad News: 2021 SEMA Dinner Is Still Cancelled. Larry will be at the show....just nada on the dinner.
Good News: There are many (Many) many events left to go for the season...see the list below or visit Pro-Touring.com!

Today's guest is Buddy Cram. He might just actually be living the life I thought was too good to be true: he operates a business called General Lee Chargers, and their one and only mission in the world is to build General Lee's for Dukes of Hazzard loving fans! While that's cool, Buddy's background in NASCAR - and love of MOPAR - both combined to bring him to turn a childhood desire into full time business. He's currently building his 56th customer car, and two more are already on order! Here's the story behind the story.

This week, we present an action packed episode featuring 6 big time interviews! We'll begin with a full update on the #KibbeLee roll bar upgrade by Garrett Daniels, now in process at RNDFabWorks in northern Kentucky. Following that we'll head to the Roadkill Nights event in Detroit. Detroit, Michigan hosts one of the most famous car cruises on the planet, the Woodward Dream Cruise, and it draws millions of people every year. It is August, time for football to resume, and time for another no holds barred Ask Rick interview with Rick Schmidt! This time (in addition to another fun nitpick through eBay car listings) we delved into the topic of "free shipping." Even further, the actual costs of shipping and receiving of large orders, small orders, freight orders, damage returns, and the like. You may be shocked to hear it....but the "free shipping" on those parts you bought online didn't actually have a free ANYTHING!

This week, marks the return of Steven Rupp! You may not remember hearing Steve on this show unless you go way back to one of our very first interviews in episode 37. Back then he was working for Camaro Performer magazine and loving it! He started at Motor Trend as the Technical Editor for Popular Hot Rodding before moving to the Camaro only publication where he wrote tech articles as he built fast cars. He went on to helm Super Chevy Magazine as well as other publications and is today one of the most highly read authors on the MotorTrend family of website magazine publications. I ran into Steven again and thought it would be great to get an update on what he has been up to, and most specifically to understand how magazine for him has changed since 2010. To put it short.....nearly everything has changed except the love for cars!

This week, marks the official return of summer and the one interview you can count on, Rick Love of Vintage Air! Rick has been on the show going back to episode 144 and Vintage Air was key in providing the Chevelle with its crisp cool breeze. I look forward to seeing Rick at SEMA every year. 2020 was a full year for us all, but especially Rick. He is now the President of Vintage Air and will soon be inducted into the SEMA Hall of fame!
I also asked Rick to speak on the state of the aftermarket as a whole in light of 2020's effects on everything (supply chain, material costs, shipping, etc.) and discuss the rise in quality we've seen the past 10 years for parts in general. In addition I had hoped he could speak to the impact and legacy of the late Craig Morrison.....which he did gracefully. Craig and his father Art worked hand in hand in growing Art Morrison Enterprises of course, but Craig was a friend to all. He'll be deeply missed and our sympathies go out to his wife, son, parents, and all extended family and friends.

Happy 4th of July and welcome to another great edition of "Ask Rick". Rick Schmidt is never one to shy away from the hard hitting questions and this month was no exception. After last months bombshell about pricing and how COVID-19 is affecting the costs of everything, there were a lot of listener questions about the parts themselves......and where they really come from. He may need to have all listeners sign a non disclosure agreement after this interview, but he definitely let the cards fall where they may.
Here was the big discussion (and myth debunk): Aren't all aftermarket parts made in just three plants in Taiwan, and they're really all the same no matter the brand? Rick laid out the reality of this eight ways from Sunday. The answer is complicated to say least. Are there really 3 factories in Taiwan stamping out all of our favorite parts? No, of course not. The amount of tooling required to do all of that would take up the state of Rhode Island. Do the many multiple factories - who are competing with each other - actually have to competitively work together? Actually, they do. Shipping of parts is a key reason however.

Larry Callahan is back for the second quarterly Pro-Touring Update for 2021! He has the latest information directly from the pages of Pro-Touring.com and he gave me an update on his tech laden, power stuffed, cutting edge, classic muscle, home projects! This week, marks the return yet again of Mike Finnegan to give us an update on what has been happening around Finnegan's Garage, on Roadkill, and on his recently renewed show Faster with Finnegan. Of course his most famous work was on the Kibbe and Finnegan Podcast. Seriously though, Mike has been a good friend over the years and it's always a fun (and usually happily dumb) catchup.

Rick Schmidt is back for our ever-popular "Ask Rick" segment and this weeks listener question is straight from the news headlines: the increase of prices on EVERYTHING. From global pandemics sequestering workers at home, to 2020's increased consumer buying, to stimulus packages, and then a final blow of a stuck ship in the middle of a canal blocking the worlds free trade, the global market has taken a huge hit. All of these forces and more have combined to impact the availability of goods and raise prices across the board.

This week, I spoke to Lyle Brummer of Speedkore Performance Group. This week, I spoke to Scott Lambert, President of Minnesota Auto Dealer's Association, and wanted to find out more about the 2021 Twin Cites Auto Show. Scott's history is quite different than most of our guests but he is still a car guy at heart. His background is in politics and was actually an automobile industry lobbyist talking about new cars and dealerships at the highest levels of government. It makes sense that he now uses his power of influence to fill this huge automotive event with all kinds of new car excitement.

Rick Schmidt is back for our ever-popular "Ask Rick" segment this week and we discussed two different "Pro-Touring" cars in the NPD warehouse that were developed and created by Pontiac engineer Herb Adams. Specifically, the "Fire Am" Firebird and the "Cheverra" Camaro. Interestingly enough though, when these cars were created....there was no such thing as the phrase "Pro-Touring" at all. That phase would not enter the lexicon for at least another 20 years or more. These cars are rare, fast, and fun....and were developed in the late 1970's! Here's the fully story.
The post TMCP # 465 – Ask Rick; The Real Story of Herb Adams 1970’s Cheverra and Fire AM’s – The First Pro-Touring Muscle Cars! first appeared on The Muscle Car Place.
If you've been following this show for a while you know that 1970's and 80's TV cars (and trucks) have had a huge influence on the cars we all love today. From the General Lee, to KITT, to the A-Team, all of those shows featured a hero vehicle that was just as much a character as any one of the individual actors. Today's episode is a full take on yet another beloved classic...and features a full rundown of everything you'll need to know to build your very own "Fall Guy" Square-Body GMC truck! Even better, our guest Nathan Warren has more passion for this topic than anyone I know. Buckle up for takeoff!

This week, we get a chance to catch up with a previous guest and friend of the show Garrett Daniels. When I interviewed Garrett three years ago in episode 351, he was just starting out on his own trying to make a business out of his passion of fabrication. Specifically, he wanted to specialize in roll cages and off road suspension for the trucks he loved most. Since then many things went well, some things became "difficult learning lessons", but it all helped him to adapt and thrive to where he is today!

It's the first show of April, and once again time for our monthly Ask Rick segment with Rick Schmidt! This time I wanted to know more about the unusual and rare vehicles in his collection. On our family trip to Florida we had a chance to stop in at NPD and were shown around the incredible collection that Rick and his father have amassed over the years. The "personal luxury car" segment of giant Buicks, Olds, Lincolns, and Fords is second to none....but the 1987 Firebird that really caught my eye was produced by a huge company in the 1980's that is nothing but a memory today!

Larry Callahan is back! For 2021 Larry will be joining us quarterly in a feature interview to bring the latest Pro-Touring event information straight from Pro-Touring.com. Larry is the "OG" of the Pro-Touring social media movement and a dear friend. You can take what he says to the bank!
Upcoming Events: Larry was able to get a comprehensive list of events for this quarter and I have posted it below. He also said he would be adding links to it and hosting it on the Pro-Touring.com website. It is exciting to see so many events listed including many that are brand new while some events are older established events that are going to see a huge upswing in interest due to pent up frustration. It will be very interesting to see what new vehicles emerge freshly built and ready to race as well as old familiar vehicles with new updates bursting forth from sequestering garages. People are anxious to use their cars after a completely missed summer in 2020 and this year will be the one to watch and attend.

It's the first show of month, and therefore time for our monthly Ask Rick segment with Rick Schmidt! I wanted to know his thoughts on the latest NASCAR happenings, the end of factory muscle cars, and of course his thumbs up or down on a selection of internet cars. Specifically, with the gasoline powered engines of today (seemingly) about to come to an end, I wanted to know which model he might buy as well as how he would trick it out. In Rick's words, "I like muscle cars that are optioned out like a Lincoln!"

This week I spoke to Tom Rightler, founder of Mid Atlantic Muscle Cars in Bridgeton, NJ. Tom is know for his excellence in restoring most muscle cars, but specifically Chevelle's. Tom's dad was a mechanic for thirty years so he grew up around cars and wrenching on them for fun. Like a lot of us, cars were his escape and relaxation! He walked into his first job in a family owned office supply business, learned the trade, and stayed there for years as his hobby turned into a very successful "side hustle." Detail and accuracy became his trademark and over the course of a decade he became a well known name in the Chevelle restoration world. He even went to night school...just to learn body work, welding, and painting!

This week I caught up with a very special friend of the show, Mike Finnegan. I met Mike on The Hot Rod Power Tour in 2015. That later fostered into a friendship that launched the Kibbe and Finnegan Podcast in 2016 (which today is the Kibbe and Friends Show). Mike's best known as the host of popular automotive shows Roadkill (Motor Trend), Finnegan's Garage (YouTube), and Faster with Finnegan (Motor Trend). More importantly than all that, he's LOVES to make hilariously fun automobile projects with his friends and share them with the world. That's the subject of today's discussion!

Investing: In this day and age of huge government stimulus packages, thoughts turn to rising costs and inflation. Since our audience could invest in something, why not follow Rick's model and invest in what they know best; cars! Rick shared that one of the lessons his father believed most was to invest in yourself first, and as such the stock market is now where he chose to invest but instead in his businesses and in assets. The car collection they curated.....wasn't actually for an investment though, though it resulted in one. In addition they chose to purchase low mile, highly optioned cars not as speculation bets, but simply because they liked them! Some are rare, some are not, but all are special. Today if they wished to sell a portion of the collection they would certainly see a great return....but that day may or may not ever come. Why? They still like the cars!

2021 is now here! This week in particular marks my 10 year anniversary if leaving the corporate world behind to chase some crazy new dreams. While I can't say it went exactly to plan, I CAN say that I wouldn't change any second of it. The friends, the adventures, and the experiences have been overwhelming. Thank YOU! I tried my best to share the good, bad, and ugly of that very first week in business (i.e. it was a massive failure). 10 years later, I'm a little older, balder, and wiser. My hope is that what I shared in this episode will be a big help to those of you in the automotive business of your choosing, no matter what that is.

It may be 2020, but the Christmas episode of TMCP is live and features the most sought after guest (internationally) for this time of year: Santa Claus! This his his record breaking 12th year in a row, in fact. He makes it a point to come on this show every Christmas and marks this as the ONLY official media interview he does each year. That's right...The MuscleCar Place has the exclusive! Santa even revealed that his "get-around" at the North Pole is a big block El Camino. Good luck finding out that kind of hard-hitting factual detail on the "news" outlets!

This week I had the great privilege to talk with Bill Rhine, owner and founder of Rhine Enterprises. Bill has NASCAR racing in his blood and may love the sport more than he entire France family combined!

This week I had the pleasure of once again talking with my great friend, my brother from another mother, and the owner of Allison Customs, Jeff Allison! It has been a little while since we just talked and ten years since we started collaborating on the build of my Chevelle. Jeff launched his business (officially) in spring of 2011 and my Chevelle was the first car his company took on. 10 years later it's been a life changer for us both! I asked him on to discuss the journey, how 2020 has affected him, and also....how to REALLY set up 2-stroke racing go-kart I bought from him to enjoy with my son!

Friend of the show (and Holley marketing superstar) Blane Burnett was able to line us up with some great interviews at the event with some famous people. MOPAR lovers young and old will recognize the names of many of our guests. Since SEMA was a no go this year, I was determined to make the Holley MOPARTY a better than fitting replacement to our yearly special segments live from the event. This week I spoke to Tyler Gibson, someone I have interacted with for a decade at different Good Guys autocross events...but have never really met. I've watched he and his sister utterly dominate while running their Scout II, and couldn't get over how it was always dialed into the track while simultaneously being aimed with the nose and steered with the tail. I love Tyler's driving style as well (all out) and decided it was finally time to learn how they've done it! It turns out....the car events were (and are) just a chance for the family to hang out together!

This weeks interview is with Chris Holtrom, longtime friend and many time repeat interviewee dating years back to TMCP Episode #50. Chris is also famous as the owner and namesake of Chris Holstrom Concepts and the creator of many show winning automotive creations at huge venues like SEMA. Just recently we asked him on The Kibbe and Friends Show (K&F Episode 159) to discuss the experience of his entire family contracting COVID-19! It was a remarkable insight into his realities of it all. At the end of that long interview he dropped a tiny comment about changing his entire business from a fun but (at times) consuming job into a highly profitable and life-fitting business! And then "with that bombshell, goodnight!" the show ended. I knew in that second that Chris was coming back on to explain himself. This is that show, and believe me it is amazing! If you own a shop, a business, or would like to this may just be revolutionary for you.

Racers, this one is for you! This week I had the pleasure of not one, but TWO interviews and both around the topic of PRI (Performance Racing Industry). The first was Dr Jamie Meyer and his amazing, surreal journey from Doctor of Medicine to Doctor of Performance at General Motors, and now on to leading the largest racing organization. The second interview is with Brad Loyet who runs BP Fabrication and makes racing parts that could be seen during the PRI trade show......but neither interview was booked knowing the other was coming. They could not be more aligned.

Holley has announced a brand new all MOPAR event in September called "MOPARTY" and I asked Blane to give the full scoop on what's planned. This weeks interview with Mr Byron Burnham, a well rounded individual with a very jolly disposition and a penchant for Chevy Vegas! His "IMSA" inspired '76 Vega is a standout at every event..but that's only a part of Byron's M.O. By summers, he's a race car driver with a fast sled that's the only one of it's kind. Carl Gerst is an Iowan who makes Pro-Touring MOPAR suspension systems.....but the reason why is a tale as old as time; man has a car that won't do what he wants it to do, man then invents parts to solve the problem, then man is approached by others to do the same for them!

For the Fourth of July, I wanted to get an all American interview about banding together with friends regarding our favorite cars in car clubs. I talked to two guests, Brian Little and previous show guest Doug Warble (episode 357) from the Susquehanna Valley GTO Club, which is a Chapter of the GTO Association of America. It's 80+ members strong! They came on to talk about starting and running a car club and growing it's membership. It turns out the techniques to growing ANY organization apply....and it all comes down to the the "want to" to see it happen.

Scott is the president of Ron Francis wiring and I wanted to get his story about how they are coping with the Covid-19 pandemic. This week I spoke to Frank Mecum of Mecum Auctions. In most of my interviews the story starts "at a young age with a love of cars". This story does have that theme, but begins with two generations of Mecums (including Dana Mecum and his father) working in and owning new car dealerships for years. Early on they came across a large collection of collectible cars that allowed the set up the first Mecum auction ever. The event took place at the Rockford airport in Illinois and after the cars were sold a tornado came through and destroyed nearly everything - including the cars. Frank said that his grandfather owed so many people money after that auction that he had to do it again the next year. The start was humble, but it led to the Mecum auction enterprise we know today.

This week I spoke to Kevin Marti of Marti Auto Works, home of the world famous "Marti Report". For the Ford faithful, this famous report allows one to know the actual manufacturer data for any Ford built 1967 or newer, including options, colors, build dates, rarity, and otherwise! It's the actual proof to know if your rare Ford or Mercury is the Real McCoy. But....as all good stories go, Kevin's intent wasn't to create a report company at all. It was born out of a search to solve a problem he had!

The Pro-Touring Update - Presented by Ron Francis Wiring - STARRING LARRY CALLAHAN - is back! 2020 Pro-touring Events: With the COVID-19 virus shutting down all large gatherings, the question remains of what events will still be allowed to operate. Mike is the co-host of Finnegan's Garage on YouTube along with his pal Dave Newbern, and stars on multiple shows on the Motor Trend including as Roadkill and Faster with Finnegan. He was also the co-host of the wildly popular and entertaining Kibbe and Finnegan podcast from 2016-2018. His mere presence and sunny disposition is a good thing of course, but he came on with an announcement you'll want to hear - tonight (May 8) he is giving away some great stuff live on Youtube!

Happy May 2020! With some of the country starting to re-open I thought that this episode would be appropriate for a special edition all "Ask Rick" show with Rick Schmidt from NPD. Rick's monthly segment has been highly popular with so many of you due to his straightforward approach to all questions asked, and I specifically wanted to hear how COVID-19 is affecting the automotive aftermarket and restoration economy. The short answer is...things aren't exactly as you think they might be!

This week our guest was Blake Foster, President of SpeedTech Performance USA. Speedtech is known for many things, but as of late I've noticed a LOT of their product in the field, at SEMA, and at the track. The common denominator: BIG front tires are included in the suspension packaging, even on cars where there is often no practical way to do so (such as an A-Body GM car like a Chevelle or GTO). Blake's mottos is, "why make great suspension just to run a 245 tire?" With that said...I needed to know more!

This week is a very special show marking a huge milestone for the Pro-Touring.com web site. It has been twenty years, this March, since Larry created the first launch the infamous site. It pre-dates nearly all of social media (Instagram, YouTube, Facebook) and even most forums! Thanks to Larry, many thousand people have visited to gain knowledge regarding go-fast-old-cars and share friendships over racing and "G's". Events and businesses have formed ENTIRELY around the Pro-Touring movement and the trend of Pro-Touring cars has become as mainstream as apple pie and kids taking selfies. I believe that Larry Callahan deserves the bulk of the credit for tossing gasoline on a match - and for fostering a place to take this industry from nothing to SOMETHING! This interview was a look book at how it all began.

After her former military husband started to show symptoms of traumatic brain injury and Post traumatic stress disorder she knew that she had to do something. After they sold a house, she was able to purchased a Corvette as a bonus for a little track day fun, she noticed his illness started to ease a little. Now...with all of that said, a good part of this interview delved into the REASON to have a YouTube channel as a shop owner, period. Realistically...most people that start YouTube channels are hoping to become a big YouTube star, not to use it as a marketing tool for their business. In the case of Jeff....it's marketing now....but perhaps may convert to stardom later. Listen in for the discussion including the costs in time, money, and effort. This weeks interview is with long time listener Derek Thomas, owner and operator of Rail & Road Auctions. Derek has been in the auction business for many years selling model trains and actual train related items, sometimes at world record sales levels. He also has a passion for the cars he grew up with in the 80's and 90's and believes the time is right for these vehicles to start gaining value.
To capture the soon to be booming 80's market, Derek decided to leverage his experience and bring a better opportunity to auction these vehicles. With his experience in the business Derek is able to utilize the same platform as the big players and offer those services to a lower dollar market. Since he is a MuscleCar Place fan, he decided it would be great to announce the service to our listeners with a discount of 25% off listing fee for your first vehicle listed and a 50% discount on your second in that auction!

This week is a special guest I met at SEMA but did not get to talk to until he agreed to be on the show. David Rey is well known from the show Graveyard Cars but in 2018 he realized he was not cut out for the world of reality TV. It was only after he quit the show that his wife said he should just start restoring Mopars in his own shop. When he rattles of the list of the cars that are in line for work, it would make most resto shops shudder. Even with all of the jobs, David is a one man show handing the bulk of the work himself!

This week is a returning fan favorite friend of the show, Ryan Brutt. It is always great talking to Ryan and in this interview he does an even deeper dive into how he finds cars and yet still protect the owners from the endless calls that his pictures would definitely generate.
Ryan has long had a love of cars and a great joy in the hunt of hidden automotive treasures. His quest has led to meeting many people and helping a great majority of them to either start the restoration they have put off for year, or sell it to a worthy buyer who will treat it with respect and love.
This episode of the Pro-Touring update is a great interview with RJ Gottlieb discussing everything Big Red Camaro related. I previously interviewed RJ five years ago in Episode 253 and I knew we had to do it again. RJ covers rebuilding the car and even previous to that, the evolution from stock vehicle to full tube frame chassis and Nascar parts.

This week is a very special show is with NHRA Top Fuel superstar Clay Millican! I caught up with him at SEMA 2019 and had a chance for a good long chat. His story of humble beginning to the top of Top Fuel is truly amazing, and you'll learn a phrase I hope you'll remember forever: "The Want To!" This week I cornered Oscar Pereda from Michelin in a (slightly) "off the books" interview at the SEMA Show. While the initial discussion was to be centered around the all new Michelin Track Connect system....I found out that he is the guy behind the coolest and most trend-setting genre changing tire sizes in pro-touring! He literally is the person who decided to have BFG develop a 335-wide 18" tire...because he thought that is what would look "coolest" on the tail of a '69 Camaro. Front tire sizes followed suit and today we have an enduser suspension, brake, chassis, and speed industry built around it!

For a record eleventh year in a row I had the pleasure of having on the most sought after person this time of year. He makes it a point to come on this show every Christmas and marks this as his ONLY official media interview he does each year (everyone else is a fake!). This week Wyotech returns with the "insider" interview we've been hoping for: an instructor and a student together. Our guests are diesel instructor Mark Muhsman accompanies by his student Micah Hager. This interview is specifically intended to help people considering the automotive trades to understand what the commitment of school can be, what they can do to prepare themselves to be successful PRIOR to coming to school, and (practically) what they can expect to make as a starting salary after graduation. All of those were answered!

This week is a special Thanksgiving Special SEMA show with Dan Kahn and Jon Chase. This is a fun to listen to show with a couple great guys live from the show floor!
Interview #1 : It was a huge pleasure to sit down again with my friend Dan Kahn and do a "State of the Nation" style discussion on the topic of SEMA - both the trade show itself as well as the organization. Dan and I met each other years past and hosted a popular podcast called "Cars for a Living" for several years together. Today Dan's company "Kahn Media" is the PR powerhouse of choice for automotive aftermarket companies businesses. He is heavily involved with SEMA and sits on the board of directors - and just a few hours after this interview he was suprprised to win the 2019 SEMA Person of the Year award! In this interview he explains his involvement with SEMA now and many insights into one of the most interesting parts of this industry. The Battle of the Builders discussion itself is worth the price of admissions! Check out Kahn Media at their website Kahnmedia.com
Interview #2 : Jon Chase of Hoonigan fame is another person I met years past at SEMA, thanks to the podcast . He himself has been a guest on our show - twice! The first interview was episode #159 where he talked about his dream job designing automotive toys for Maisto, as a designer for Muscle Machines. Later Jon was back on the show in episode 368 where he talked about his new dream job of Brand Manager and Art Director at Hoonigan. He has also designed clothing, promotional media, and raced his '55 Chevy against Mike Finnegan's (a re-match is in the works). HOONIGAN is a huge success in our industry today and this was a full discussion on that as well. You can find out more at Hoonigan.com.

This weeks show is with Fred Kappus, owner of Fast Freddies Rod Shop in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Fred's shop is campaigning a stellar '69 Road Runner called "Hellrunner" in the OPTIMA Ultimate Street Cars series, with it competing really well against the smaller (and more prevalent) Camaros and Mustangs. This is akin to an aircraft carrier competing against fighter jets.... but they're doing it and doing it well and I wanted to learn exactly HOW!

This weeks show is with Kevin Hellman, the Dodge Challenger brand manager. He was previously on the show in episode 403 as a part of the Roadkill Nights episode but I wanted to find out more about keeping the classic muscle style cars alive in new car packages.
Kevin grew up playing with almost anything with an engine just outside of St Louis Mo. He headed into college knowing he wanted to work in engineering but was not sure what. He added his Bachelor in Business later so he could know how to be a better brand manager. Kevin mentioned that the brand manager position is like being at the center of a wheel where all of the aspects of a brand radiate out and the manager is facilitating the connections making sure everyone communicates.
Classic cars have always been an extension of ones personality and the current line of muscle cars is no different. Kevin noticed that many people make their twitter handles or email addresses a description of their car and think that owners love and identify with their vehicles on a basic level. Dodge is working hard to keep the personal choices coming with eye catching colors like GoMango or Plum Crazy and performance options like the Hellcat and wide body packages.

This weeks show is with Jordan Zlotoff, the Chief Executive Officer of the M1 Concourse in Pontiac Michigan. Perhaps just a few years ago not many people had heard of the M1. Today however, times have changed! Thanks to a multiple great events and it's strategic placement near the automotive capital of the world, the M1 is gaining international attention. We were onsite at the recent (and massive) Roadkill nights event there as mentioned in Episode 403. Jordan is leading the way on the high visibility of this fantastic place and I wanted to find out more about it.

Founded in Laramie in 1966, WyoTech provides concentrated training programs such as Automotive Technology, Collision Refinishing Technology, Diesel Technology, Interior, Restoration and performance, and other areas as well. Jim is a graduate of WyoTech and previously held the office of President up until 2002. Wyotech has changed ownership over the years, but Jim was able to purchase the school just a few years ago and returned back into family owned hands. He intends to keep it that way. For those that have ever considered attending an automotive trade program this will be a MUST LISTEN TO interview.

This weeks show is with Dan Cheveralls, an engineer at a tools company and a fellow Dukes of Hazzard fan. His experience as a product development engineer brought him into the fold of using 3D printing for the development and evaluation of new products, and he has successfully integrated this into his personal life by creating "one-off" parts for his own restoration projects. Since the viability of 3D printing has been a common question as of late I asked him on the show to share the process!
On this edition of Ask Rick we dug into the opposite side of the 3D "one off" discussion and jumped full bore into the process, timeline, and (frankly) large expense of mass market restoration part manufacturing! I wanted to know about some of the intricacies surrounding the creation and sourcing of a new part.

This weeks show is with Cody Young, owner and operator of Cody Crafted specialty shop. Cody grew up with a passion for cars and speed, which led him into racing and building race cars. He traveled around and did some wrenching or sales as well as stand in racing for some teams. After years of living life in the fast lane, it was time to settle down and pick a reliable job to support his family. Cody started working in a dealership and after a few years there, he realized that the Saturday hours were causing him to miss his boys growing up. His realization that life was slipping through his fingers, he knew it was time to start his own business so he could call the shots. After working in a fab shop, to learn how to do the work, he started Cody Crafted and is able to spend time with family while still building vehicles that fire his passion.
Check out Episode 359 where I talked to Jeff Teel from Holley regarding the Terminator Stealth fuel injection system. This system looks like the old school Holley carb just like what was used on the General Lee. I have been talking about installing this injection system since even before the Kibbe Lee was purchased. Cody, being the consummate listener, noticed that I had a lot going on and he thought that this is his time to step up and lend a hand. He has installed a few different injection systems in various cars and trucks and knew that he could help out with a little expertise. I greatly appreciate the offer to help and thought I should have him on the show to learn more about CodyCrafted.

This weeks episode features a full show dedicated to a catch up on e-mails as well as our popular "Ask Rick" segment to discuss the two best things in car life: road trips, and buying cars on road trips!
That led to the discussion of purchasing two of his dream cars as well; his '67 GTO and his 1969 Boss 429 Mustang. In the case of the Boss, it was his lifelong dream car. He had a feeling that prices were only going up so he borrowed some cash from his sister and put the deal together. Listen in to find out how prophetic that decision was....for both the GTO and the Boss!

This weeks show features the return of Jeff Allison, Owner and operator of Allison Customs, Airline Pilot, and You Tube sensation. I asked Jeff to be on the show as a fitting tribute as to how far the show (and Jeff) have come in the last 400 episodes. Back in episode 72 (Feb 2011) I announced that the Chevelle was going to be built and that Jeff had offered to build it for me. Since then it has not only been an amazing experience with the car but a fun journey with a great friend.
For a long time Jeff Allison ran a construction company as his main source of income and flew airplanes as a side business and had dreams of owning a hot rod shop. Jeff eventually moved up to captain and dropped building houses but now had time to work on cars as the side job. He said that eventually he wants to retire from flying and go full time in the custom business. The automotive jobs he takes are never rush jobs and the customers understand that it may take awhile since this is not the main source of income.
Jeff Allison, Scott Bowers, Rob Kibbe, in the Ron Francis Booth
As a car enthusiast, Jeff liked to fill his down time with automotive information and The Muscle Car Place became one of his main sources of entertainment. In January of 2011 Jeff offered to help bring my Chevelle dreams to life and so began a great friendship. The build was featured start to finish on The Muscle Car Place and over the next four years it went from mostly rust to a stunning SEMA show car that attracted attention for TMCP and Allison Customs as well as Ron Francis Wiring who hosted the car in their booth. Today I use the Chevelle as intended as an autocross car and it attracts attention where ever I drive it.

This week our guest was Seth Withers, our brand new sales director for The MuscleCar Place Network of shows. After ten years of building our network shows the shows to an amazing level of production and content, I knew that to achieve our goal of "big time" it would require a full time Sales Sales Director to place over the entire network. This person had to have a sales track record, be a real car guy or gal already, be a fit with out existing team, and (most importantly) be a true believer in our podast network already. As always, I asked my existing listeners for help....and Seth was the fit we needed. He is a long time listener of both The MuscleCar Place and the Kibbe and Friends show and he is anxious to start working with the team. He began a few months ago and we're now going public with it!

This week I traveled to Warren Customs in Hamilton Alabama to hang out with Nathan Warren and pickup my freshly updated General Lee! I dropped the car off in January for the full "Season 2" Dukes of Hazzard conversion and after months of hard work he was ready to roll. Last week, he was done! This is the whole story of the restoration, soup to nuts.
Even before I purchased this car, Nathan had offered to be the one to do the work to make my dream come true. Creating this particular car seemed easy....but was really tricky as most of the subtle changes were fairly major. Other than the fact that my car was already orange and wearing the GL uniform, cosmetically almost everything else had to change. In episode 353 of The Muscle Car Place I did the first full interview with Nathan where we detailed the plans how to make it as TV correct as it could get. Little did I know that things would go way beyond our simple plans.
Kibbe Lee correct brown interior
The General Lee is as much a character in The Dukes Of Hazzard show as any other cast member. Like most actors the role changes and the actor looks different over several years of filming. To be as accurate as it can be, a specific season had to be chosen and I chose to make the car a season two clone with all the oddities that time had to offer. Nathan was more than up to the challenge and even has parts he can make for other General Lee creators out there.
One piece that REALLY pulls off the "Season 2" look is the amazing push bar that is the most accurate recreation I have seen. In order to make it that great it had to go through a couple iterations, and change more, even after it looked correct at first. There is a lot of work in any restoration but Nathan admitted that in some cases he made more work for himself by striving for the most accurate representation possible. Customers in his shop agree that he is a stickler and they trust him to make the job right.

This week our guest was Tommy Lee Byrd,Marketing and PR Coordinator for the Coker Tire Company. He is from Tennessee and was referred to us by Mike Finnegan. He grew up around drag cars and racing so when he went off to college he just wanted to be around cars. Tommy's dad even sold everything he could to buy him a 64 Corvette coupe as a gift. He also owns a 1964 Chevelle that is his "Grandma car" and just plain fun to drive around in.
Coker tire got it's start in 1960 when Harold Coker purchased a BF Goodrich dealership in Chatanooga TN and got access to the manufacturer of tires. He started ordering special build tires for antique vehicles made from antique tire molds. He either had the rights to use the name of the old tire manufacturers are he simply put Coker on the sidewalls and a brand was born. The family would go to car shows and advertise the tire at events catering to that market. Coker built up it's collection of old tire molds after they were discontinued by the manufacturer.
Tommy Lee Byrd with his daughter and his 64 Corvette
By having contacts at the major tire manufacturers, they were able to make agreements to continue using the brand names on the tire made with these old molds. Tommy said that the radial tires with wide white walls that look like originals has really been Coker's trademark over the years. Modern radials have better ride and tire life and really enhance the old vehicles in comfort and safety. The original Coker radial was the companies own design to be like the classic tires customers were looking for. Coker's American classic tires are made in the USA using Coker molds.

Liquidating a huge collection of Buick, Olds, and Pontiacs:
This week our guest was Mike Paul, the host of the Motor Madhouse Podcast and life long muscle car fanatic. His love of cars goes back to his upbringing and he has learned a lot from his father where he helped him curate a collected of Buick, Olds, and Pontiac muscle cars that were all well documented (and rare enough) to warrant a restoration. Many have highly rare option combinations, or in one case ONLY go fast options and nothing else. Mike told the details and gives some history on some of the cars which was fascinating on many levels. While they did have the chance to restore many cars, but there's only so much time in life and the reality was they'd never see them all done. This discussion is all about liquidating the collection and moving them on to new homes!

This week I spoke to Jo Coddington, racer, car enthusiast, TV celebrity, and Motorsports spokesperson. She became a household name along with her husband Boyd Coddingon on the television show American Hot Rod, but that was not at all where she really gained her start in the industry. Jo was born in Woodvine Iowa, but grew up "out west" in Phoenix Arizona due to allergies that had no known cure at the time. She was raised in a racing family and after graduating from a go kart, she moved into dirt sports. Jo tells the story of her dad not allowing her to come home until she had rebuilt the race engine she had blown up. She worked on it at a friends garage and thought she could talk him into fixing it, but he was in on the plan with her dad. Years later Jo admits that making her build that engine just reinforced her desire to be involved and could not keep her out of the garage.

In this episode I spoke to Sean Holman, half of the Lightning and Holman duo that hosts the hit podcast "The Truck Show" for Motortrend. Mike Finnegan introduced us and the two shows have collaborated on a few things over the last year. Sean has always been fascinated with automotive topics and trucks but his start is not the typical story. Early on, Sean obtained a degree in criminal justice and wanted to be an officer. Unfortunately he did not like the bureaucracy and started looking for alternatives to his chosen career. On Sept 11, 2001 he was working in a Boeing factory working security supporting the Shuttle missions and had to make sure the plant was shut down and secure right after the attacks. Employees were watching the skies and listening to silence, unsure of what would happen next. Sean made the jump out of security right after that, by making contacts at Primedia and working his way into being the associate editor of Truckin' magazine.

This week I talk to Gil Winningham from Quick Trick Alignment products. You may remember hearing the name before as I had Tess Winningham on the show back in 2015. Gil has stepped in since then has been working hard on social medial and promotions ever since. He is also a racer and spends weekends at the track with the QuickTrick Honda Accord and also helping out other racers with alignments.
Gil's step dad Gary created the system to help him change alignment settings at the track or at least to save himself from hauling his race car to an alignment shop every week. People at the track saw this invention and wanted one for themselves and a business was created. Gil says that QuickTrick is always adding new products that enhance the portable alignment tool and save customers time and money.

This week I spoke to Steve Myers Owner of Skunk River Restorations with an interview conducted - for the first time ever - right here in my own office! Skunk River is a local Ames, Iowa restoration business that specializes in working on the vehicles that most many other shops either cannot or do not want to work on. Steve will take on the high end and import vehicles that are sometimes hard to source parts for or that are so different that most people are scared to dig into them.

Feature Interview: In this episode I spoke AMC muscle car expert, friend, and former article writer, Wayne Davis. It has been many years since Wayne was on the show so I wanted to catch up on life, cars, and fun! Wayne was attracted to AMC muscle cars at a young age through a relative and has developed a reputation for performing highly detailed restorations on them over the years. His portfolio of previous projects include some of the most rare optioned vehicles of the line. His current project though is his favorite so far: a highly accurate AMC Javelin Mark Donohue Trans Am tribute car, complete with period AMC race engine. Unlike his other restorations, this is a car he has no problem driving and taking to the track! The car is loud, fast, obnoxious, and gets attention wherever it goes.
On this edition of Ask Rick: I asked the long wondered listener question of "Is your hold music from the Dudley Moore movie, Arthur?" He did not immediately know, but we will find out in the next episode!
On a more serious note, one listener did want to know whether the aftermarket industry has experienced a downturn this year, and whether NPD has seen that as well. He hasn't seen that for NPD and we discussed the attributing factors.

In this episode I talked once again to my dear friend Zip Simons, co-owner of Street Metal Concepts in Orlando Florida. Zip and Don Endonino put the paint and finishing touches on my Chevelle in 2016. It is hard to believe that it has been that long since they have been on the show even though I talk to them often since then.
Street Metal Concepts Humdinger on Diesel Power Magazine cover
Zip and Don have been working on cars for a very long time now and I wanted to get some behind the scenes info. He said that one of SMC's biggest features is it's record keeping. Every "valuable" hour is documented with what work was done and what decisions were made. This information is then provided back to the customer so they are comfortable with what is being done to their treasured vehicle. Zip says a lot of time is spent on project planning and documentation but in the long run it is all worth it. They also provide photo documentation on an ongoing basis and many customers look forward to the pictures of how the process is going. It keeps them involved and interested instead of becoming a drop it off and forget it relationship. Zip wants them to understand what is going on and what is involved.
Butch Poes '63 Chevy II by Street Metal Concepts
Creating a custom vehicle is an emotional roller coaster and the guys want the customers to know this right up front. Quite often they get unfinished projects from other shops and this is usually due to the lack of a relationship. These vehicles are not a necessity and emotionally driven and the emotions run out before the project gets finished. Zip and Don want the customer to be comfortable and know the ball is in their court.

In this episode Nathan Warren came on to talk about the "season two" updates to my General Lee. It has been a year since Nathan came on the show to talk about the formation and goals of his business....and then offered to showcase his abilities by helping me to convert my car to a screen accurate version of how it would have appeared in Season 2 of the Dukes of Hazzard! Well, fast forward a year, and the car is now there and is in his capable hands. This episode is the update of everything related!

In this episode I spoke once again to friend of the show Mike Fadel, Director of Sales and Consignments at Streetside Classics. Streetside has made a major impact for both buyers and sellers of collector cars, muscle cars and otherwise by going strictly consignment and by utilizing massive amounts of data to fine tune where cars cab be bought and sold. And....it's working! In just the last few years they've been growing at a rapid rate and I wanted to see if he could give me the hottest look at what 2019 holds.
Ask Rick: On this edition of Ask Rick Rick shared the final results from the recent AACA show in Ocala and regarding the judging of his 1955 Pontiac Star Chief specifically. He told me it passed with no issues! He went on to say that prior to AACA judging he did correct quite a few things with the car and he would be proud to enter it even into a Pontiac specific show. The vehicle specific shows are a bit different than AACA since the people that judge are specialists in those cars specifically where an AACA judge has a breadth of knowledge regarding all makes and models. The AACA shows do a great job of judging overall quality of a vehicle as a collector car and is something to look for when purchasing a car.

In this episode I spoke to Gray Fredrick, the sales director for Advanced Fuel Dynamics. AFD's entire goal is to maximize the affordable power-adder benefit available in E85 fuel...but without the need for an E85 specific engine tune. Why? Because E85 fuel is an inconsistent blend pump-to-pump and state to state. With that said however, they have found a way to let the ECM do the job needed to gain that happy wonderful octane supplement and this discussion is all about that very process. The OEM's have found a way to utilize E85 well enough with fuel economy in mind....but performance is the objective of AFD.

In this episode I had the privilege of doing something rare; an interview with a local shop! I traveled across Ames to do a rare live interview with Sean Barber, owner of Anything Scout and New Legend 4x4. Believe it or not, but in the small college town of Ames, IA lives one of the premier businesses in the world of International Scout parts, supplies, and custom builders. This interview tells their story of specializing in the niche of Scouts - and of going ALL IN on the business of choosing the custom route for them vs factory restorations.

This episode marks a fun trip to the January auctions! Our intrepid show producer Bernie McPartland was our man on the scene at Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale Arizona and while there caught up with Bret Voelkel of RideTech. To follow up with that, we had Rick Schmidt on to get his opinion on the auction world as a whole, both from a marketing perspective for NPD and as a buyer and seller of cars. I also really wanted his opinion on the higher-than-normal sales prices of "Resto-mod" Corvettes at the Barrett Jackson auction (which he does watch annually) vs their fully restored counterparts.

This weeks interview is with Ed Capen, Vice President, Sales and Sponsorships for Good-guys Rod & Custom Association to talk about the new rules for the 2019 racing season. Ed has been on the show previously and we got straight into the rules. Good-guys is first and foremost a car show with an Autocross added on. The customer is the car show attendee and the goal is to make it fun and so that car owners do not have to build their cars specifically for this race series.
The new rules are very exciting and make it possible for a normal or slightly modified classic car owner to be able to compete against other similar vehicles. Classes such as Pro-X now exist but the massive tire, super lightweight, race specific cars are not competing against Joe Normal's heavy car with smaller tires.

This weeks interview is with Taylor Hull, a drift car racer that I met for just a minute at the SEMA Show in 2018. Taylor has always been into cars and his family supported his dreams of racing. His day job is at Allied Rentals is very forgiving of his racing schedule and gives him some leeway to pursue his dream. Taylor has tried many aspects of racing including some circle track experiences and some time in the NASCAR Truck series. His found he loves drifting and says that racing on your own is exhilarating and rewarding.

Happy 2019! This episode marks the very first of another new year, so this month we'll talk about goals for the year as well as to take an inspiring look at people enjoying the hobby or business of the world of muscle cars in new and unique ways. This particular installment featured Mike Gehri who is enjoying both the business and hobby side of our world, but not in a way we've seen before. Mike is the graphic artist and game developer behind the software company Beer Money Games, the business behind the wildly successful game Demolition Derby 2.!

This weeks interview is with friend of the show Jacob Davis. You should remember him from previous episodes #311 and #334 where he detailed his journey to obtaining his dream job at Hot Rod Magazine! Since that time Jacob has quickly made a name for himself and is enjoying the rewards of his efforts. As a result of this he now runs into many people in his travels, some of whom offer him interesting and unique propositions. The story that follows is the result of one of these conversations. Please note the word "allegedly" is used (a lot) in this show.

This weeks interview is with Mark Racop, founder and owner of Fiberglass Freaks, builders of 1966 Batmobiles that are Officially Licensed by DC Comics!
At a young age Mark was fascinated by the Batmobile and knew he had to have one of his own someday. This was no passing fancy or little boys dream, it was a definite passion. During high school Mark and his friends decided to create a fan fiction batman episode and of course they had to have the ultimate prop to do it with. Using very limited resources and a 1974 Monte Carlo the boys built from scratch the car now known as Bat-One. Later on the television studio finally re-released the entire Batman series and Marks dad recorded all 160 episodes on VHS. Mark spent many many hours watching, pausing, and replaying the tapes for clues on how the vehicle was built. There are pictures of him at car shows posing next to the show vehicles and even these family photos got pulled into use as reference points.

n this episode of the show our guest is Mr. Colin Date, the all new Director of Marketing for National Parts Depot! Colin has been around restoration parts industry and automotive media business for 20 years and is no stranger to the ups, downs, people, and passions that make it all go round. He and NPD's Rick Schmidt new each other, had interacted quite a bit, and had a mutual respect for years. He is an all around car guy, not tied to any one specific brand (i.e. all muscle cars are good muscle cars, and loves the whole classic car culture!

Today's show is with Rob Dumovic, instructor from Executive Flyers Aviation. He is also the host of a podcast about aviation Plane Talk Podcast. I wanted him on the show to discuss his big goals in life and how he is chasing them.
Rob told me his big goals are to be a world class aerobatic pilot, a top level air show performer, and to the join Red Bull Air race. These goals in aviation are saying you are going to drive at top level Nascar or be a famous movie star. He is aiming for the very top levels of the sport.

Today's show is with Dave Hall, founder of Restore a Muscle Car, lover of Trans Am (and all muscle cars), and even a past show guest (episode 38). Restore A Muscle Car is an impressive restoration business that he and his wife have built together that restores all muscle cars, but is always the one I think of first when it comes to the "Bandit" Trans Am. They also had a close relationship with Burt Reynolds (The Bandit) himself!

Today's guest is Jon Chase, Brand Manager and Art Director at Hoonigan since 2014. Back in 2012 I met Jon at SEMA and we had him on TMCP #159. At that time he was with Maisto designing amazing car models. From there he went on to run his own clothing brand company called DSTROYR. That process led to an introduction to Hoonigan where he decided to head full time, which allowed him to do all of the fun stuff he enjoyed with DSTROYR, with more time for family, fun, and to pardon the pun, Hooning. In this episode we got to the bottom if what Hoonigan actually is ( a brand lifestyle, media creation, an apparel company) and detailed all of the ins and outs that go with it.

Today's show is perhaps one of the most important we've ever done at TMCP, and frankly speaking - it's the real reason this show started in the first place. Our guest is Brandon Bailey, a man I've never met in person but one that I was convinced my my great friend Kirk Hansen that I needed to know. Brandon had just purchased Kirk's Firebird in order to restore it as the feature car for a very-soon upcoming fundraiser to raise money in memoriam for the family of his best friend Daniel. This is the story of that journey.
Branden Bailey had a best friend, Daniel Reed and they met at a sandlot baseball game before they were teenagers. These two became best friends as close as brothers and did everything together. They grew up riding bikes, playing football, and watching Smokey and the Bandit enough to wear out the tape. When Daniel was offered a 1980 Firebird his dreams of a car like in the movie came true. The boys spent many hours changing motors and fixing on the Firebird and driving around having a great time. Daniel was struck by a car while riding his motorcycle to work and passed away. Local friends and relatives put together a memorial run to raise money for his 8 year old son and wife that he left behind. Branden said around 70 cars showed up for the drive and everyone had a great time.

In the early 80's there were a few different car centered TV shows competing for the same viewers. There were the Dukes and the General Lee, but Michael Knight and KITT showed up with a different, more futuristic kind of automobile. Our guest this week is AJ Palmgren who is a Knight Rider Historian similar to how our own Corn Dog is to the General Lee. Between AJ and Joe Huth there is many many shows worth of information (plus a couple books) and the depth of research is astounding. Unfortunately many important people involved with creating and developing the series are no longer with us but these guys were able to interview and document many stories before they passed away.

In this episode of TMCP our feature guest is the owner and president of Ron Francis Wiring, Scott Bowers. Scott is a huge supporter of the show I have come to know him and look forward to every time we can get together. He and the staff at Ron Francis are car fanatics with a passion for electronics who enjoy putting their products on the road.
This year the Hot Rod Power Tour introduced the Sponsors Shootout for manufacturers to participate in featuring drag racing, auto crossing and the long haul road trip all without changing tires or swapping parts on the vehicles. Scott thought this would be a great time to showcase the new car they just put together. The Ron Francis Wiring team built a 1984 Mustang SVO and put a Coyote engine in it. After developing the engine harness for sale, there were many parts lying around the research lab and of course this was the perfect excuse to try it all out in a very cool event.

In this episode of TMCP our feature guest is Ryan Brutt, THE Auto Archaeologist. Ryan has been on the show once before in episode 325 where he discussed how to find classic cars in barns. This time around Ryan has a new book detailing his best barn finds in pictures and words.
For Ryan, finding cars in barns is a full time job. He travels across the country asking people at garages and parts stores about the locations of hidden barn find cars. Making connections and friends is a major key in the way he finds these forgotten classics. To save money he will spend nights at peoples houses while he researches new old car leads. Nathan heard about this and reached out to offer his services on the car, specifically with the minor body and interior modifications I wanted to make in regards to making the General appear as it did in Season 3 of the Dukes of Hazzard TV Show. Basically, like me, Nathan's a total Dukes of Hazzard geek!

In this TMCP episode I spoke to Jeff Kauffman and Bryan White (and former TMCP interviewee) from Silver Sport Transmissions Maryville, Tennessee. Since I picked up the General Lee I have been debating options for overdrive transmissions to make life on the highway a little easier. Also overdrive transmissions have been around since before the 80's so it is possible the Duke Boys could have swapped one in (if they had been allowed on highways outside of the county). I asked Jeff and Bryan to come on the show and answer some of my questions about transmission options. Want to hear something else cool? The old Cars for a Living podcast show that I used to host is one of the reasons Bryan left his ho-hum career with a major corporation to join the aftermarket...and Silver Sport was where he landed!
Also - as I mentioned in this interview - be sure to check out the new Baseball tee that I launched with my friends on Kickstarter. I think you'll dig it - and please share it with your friends. The GTOAA was founded in 1979 by Tony Bastion for the restoration, preservation and enjoyment of GTOs. The first meet was in Indianapolis Indiana and has grown nationwide. The GTOAA now boasts 4000 members across the US. The organization recently started spot lighting the regional chapters and boosting them on the national web site and Facebook. In this week's episode I talked to Mark Greene, the host of the daily car themed podcast "Cars Yeah". Mark's son introduced him to podcasts during a "what should I do with my life" conversation and it has been a great experience ever since. He told me "You just have to put in the time" to create and build a brand. Eventually he plans to hire people to help write show articles and production but for right now it is all Mark's hard work making it happen. He told me he likes to focus on the people and businesses in the car industry.

For our final show of the year we had the great pleasure of having on an annual celebrity guest. Our interview was with the big man himself, Père Noël, Kris Kringle, Father Christmas, or otherwise known as, Santa Claus! I've had more than a few people wonder how (or perhaps why) we get Santa onto the show each year, and this year proved to be the most interesting setup of all. I am not sure if I stayed on the nice list by the end of the interview as Nick seemed to be a little distracted by all of the holiday activities he is involved with lately.

This weeks show marks the 300th show in the history of The Muscle Car Place! The show has come a long way since I started creating them on my own in my basement back in May of 2009. I had no idea that the thing I was going as a promotional tool for my website would actually become the biggest business connector I'd ever have, and introduce me to some of the most incredible people I could ever hope to meet! To mark to occasion I have assembled some clips of previous episodes, complete with a full blown introduction of them by the one and only Santa Claus. Seriously - he came on early this year just for this! (Don't worry - he'll still be back in just a few weeks for our annual Christmas show.)
