Today on The Natural Birth Podcast we have Sarah.
Sarah is a mama of one originally from Ireland, living in the Netherlands.
Sarah was resistant to become pregnant initially because of the traumatic and painful experience child birth seemed to be.
It wasn’t until her friend and previous podcast guest, Natalie, shared her positivity and empowering birth story that Sarah decided to go for it.
And shortly thereafter she became pregnant.
This tells you truly of the importance of sharing positive birth stories with the world.
And talking about the importance of sharing, well I’ve been telling you something inaccurate about the birthing culture in the Netherland. The 30% home birth rate is apparently a thing of the past and today that number is closer to 13%. I’ve also found out that hospital births in the Netherlands, according to a dutch midwife, is much more medicalized and it’s truly only via independent midwives you can have a physiological natural birth.
And this fact is something that gets mirrored in Sarah's story. Sarah decided to change her birth team in week 39 as her care providers that she was with continued to stress about her presumably BIG BABY and the need for induction after her guess date.
Sarah ditched the fear mongering care providers and found a midwifery team with which she had a natural home birth in peace right up until it’s fierce and fiery end.
