This week we speak to Scott from @p_m_h_support. Scott is a Consultant in paternal mental health and parent education, he is a peer support trainer, a Dad to 7 boys, a husband and an army veteran. This episode was recorded two years ago, so we have been waiting to release it.
We release this episode around the time of Father’s Day and we feel this is such an important conversation that needs to be had. To support Father’s and birthing partners in birth trauma, perinatal mental health and neonatal care.
We discuss Scott’s experience of birth trauma, neonatal care and mental health following the birth of his children, we talk about the stigma and lack of support available. We discuss topics such as guilt, jealousy, fear of failing, bonding, the impact of the pandemic. As well as other important issues such as, how to support your partner when they do not acknowledge that they need support themselves, or do not want to open up.
