Today we are talking to Kayleigh Summers, aka the Birth Trauma Mama. Kayleigh is a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist who specialises in working with parents who have been through birth trauma. She runs an amazing online community and has her own podcast, where she talks openly about her own experience of birth trauma.
In this episode, we discuss Kayleigh’s experience of birth trauma. Kayleigh experienced an amniotic fluid embolism whilst in labour, leading to her coding and needing to be resuscitated. Her baby also needed to be resuscitated and also spent some time in NICU whilst Kayleigh regained consciousness. Kayleigh speaks about her experience of coming to terms with not being present for the birth of her child and the impact of trauma on her mental health. We discuss manifestation, grief, guilt, loss, health anxiety, jealousy, resentment and how to cope with all of those feelings. We also discuss how to manage feelings around not being able to have another child after birth trauma and how this can impact us.
