The NICU Space by Miracle Moon
This week we are talking about what not to say to a NICU Mum and what to say instead. We acknowledge that if you have not been through the NICU experience, it can be hard to know what to say, that words often come from a place of wanting to reassure and not from a place of ill intent. We talk through common phrases that our community has heard and how they can impact us, with a hope of spreading awareness and starting the conversation about how to support a NICU Mum in an empathic way.
We also speak with Salma, @pandemic_preemie who talks passionately about her experience of being in NICU at the start of the pandemic. Salma had her baby Eesa at 27 weeks, following a smooth pregnancy, she went into spontaneous labour, her son spent 95 days on the NICU, her story is on our blog at www.miraclemoon.co.uk
Salma works in policy and speaks about how to challenge policies currently in place surrounding COVID-19 and how the experience of being in NICU during the pandemic impacted her, her husband and her eldest son who she was also having to homeschool.
