Join Fr. Peter Heers as he explores and presents the distinguishing characteristic of being a Christian: The Orthodox Ethos. You will be (re)introduced to Christ, the Incarnate and Diachronic Presence of God, in the lives of those who have been purified, illumined and glorified by Him. You will see the human person and the world anew, in the Light of the Resurrected and Ascended God-man as expressed by those “made gods by His Grace” (St. Athanasius the Great) in every age. You will be given great hope and a new perspective on life and death, history and eternity, and the very purpose of your existence. Fr. Peter is an Orthodox Christian priest, professor, author, speaker, translator and publisher.
The podcast The Orthodox Ethos is created by Fr. Peter Heers. The podcast and the artwork on this page are embedded on this page using the public podcast feed (RSS).

Fr. Peter Heers and Constantine Zalalas discuss the recent public statements by Pope Francis.
"All religions are paths to reach God. They are—to make a comparison—like different languages, different dialects, to get there. But God is God for everyone. If you start to fight saying 'my religion is more important than yours, mine is true and yours isn't', where will this lead us? There is only one God, and each of us has a language to arrive at God. Some are Sheik, Muslim, Hindu, Christians; they are different ways to God." - Pope Francis, September 13th, 2024

Perennialism will be the last temptation of history. It has been prophesied by Christ Himself in the Book of Revelation. He says, “thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth” (Rev. 3:10). As the great Elder Athanasius Mitilianaios tells us, “because this temptation will affect the entire world it will be the great adulteration of faith in the Theanthropic Person of Christ.”
Fr. Peter Heers sits down with Fr. Konstantine Jincharadze and David Jincharadze from Georgia to discuss this very important topic of Perennialism. You can follow Fr. Konstantine's work in Georgian on www.xareba.net.

Fr. Peter Heers speaks to ROCOR Youth in Australia (December 2023).
QUESTION & ANSWER SESSION:
(52:39): How can we find a balance between wanting to excel in school, career, wanting to start a business, wanting to go out with friends, or watching a TV show, and doing all these things in life that take up so much of our time, versus praying, reading spiritual texts, going to additional Church services? I find myself trapped in past times and events that make me question “Am I really growing closer to God right now?” Sometimes I think what’s the point of putting all my effort and time into doing these activities when it has nothing to do with any spiritual progress?
(58:50): If you were to have an extremely vivid spiritual dream, should you tell someone about it, or be concerned about it, or just brush it off?
(1:02:58): My question has to do with your point of our things mostly coming down to pride. Is it a temptation for us, from the devil to say “Are we actually doing it as a religion, not actually doing it for the sense of being in the likeness of God”? I almost feel like it’s pride in my sense, but I want to just, in the end, like achieve salvation, I want to do it but it feels like I’m doing it wrong or am I doing it right?
(1:09:59): I’m curious following your successes on social media and YouTube if you find that young Christians rely solely on social media for information about theology, without looking for a spiritual father and a real-life community?
(1:13:02): I have recently left traditional Catholicism for Orthodoxy this year. I was wondering… I still got family members and even friends that are close to me and still Roman Catholic and even in other religions (they might be in Islam, they might practice yoga). If they tell me it is all the same that Orthodoxy is all the same to them, like Perennialism, should I admonish them, should I argue with them or should I do something else?
(1:17:21): Going back to the dream question, multiple priests say if the sign of the cross is in the dream, that means that it’s a message from God because because the demons can’t do the sign of the cross.
(1:18:04): I have found that there are people who are trying to provoke you and they are quite defensive about their religion, whether it’s Catholicism or being Mormon, or Islam. Sometimes I get mentally stuck and I don’t know how to answer and I go blank, even though you have read the Scripture and you read the Bible, and read x, y, z. What do you do when you feel like they’re giving a question you can’t give an answer to? How do you respond in a way that is Orthodox instead of just giving up? Because I feel I sometimes don’t have the answer. I don’t know how to respond because I’m being put on the stand.

(Originally broadcast on Dec. 1, 2018)
The enemy of man’s salvation is called, in Greek, ο διάβολος, or the one who slanders and thus divides. His “modus operandi” is to divide and conquer. Thus, a sure sign of his handiwork is division, exemplified by the separation he provoked between the First-formed and God in Paradise. But, are all kinds of division his work? What are we to make of our Lord Jesus Christ’s words, “Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division” (Luke 12:51)? And, elsewhere: “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household” (Matt. 10: 34-36).
In this lecture, Fr. Peter will examine the two types of divisiveness - salvific and demonic - and explain the importance of distinguishing between them. Discerning the spirits, what is of God and what of the enemy, is characteristic of being an Orthodox Christian and a matter of spiritual life and death.
Topics referenced:
Peace and Security according to Christ and the World, spiritual life and rationalism, Church unity and catholicity, the Grace of God, roles within the Church, the confession of faith, schism, phyletism, ecclesiological heresies.

An interview with Fr. Peter Heers and Fr. Zechariah Lynch, the translator of our newest book: Homilies on the Divine Liturgy — by Holy Hieromartyr Seraphim Zvezdinsky 📖
AVAILABLE NOW from Uncut Mountain Press 👇
https://uncutmountainpress.com/shop/product/homilies-on-the-divine-liturgy
These homilies, so full of light, hope, and witness to the Lord Jesus, were proclaimed during the dark times of fierce Soviet persecution in the early 20th century. In the year 1926, during his exile in Diveyevo, St. Seraphim (Zvezdisnky) delivered over twenty homilies on the deep grace and life present in the Divine Liturgy. These homilies were recorded in writing by the servant of God, Tatyana Artsybusheva and subsequently preserved for the faithful in samizdat form. After the fall of the Soviet Union, the homilies were formally published for the general edification of the Orthodox faithful.
Overflowing with the hope of immortality in the face of passing mortality, these sermons will edify, strengthen, and illumine the reader. Full of love and respect for the living tradition and history of the Divine Liturgy, St. Seraphim instructs and calls his listeners to enter deeper into Christ Jesus, who is the eternal Sun burning deep at the center of the Divine Liturgy and filling it with His grace and life.

This extended podcast seeks to address the teachings of our Lord and His Saints that have the potential to create a stumbling-block on our spiritual path, and how we can view them in the context of the relationship with the spiritual father and our individual path of purification.
Our review will include the command to eat the flesh and drink the blood of the Son of Man, of adultery including lust in one's heart, and of the many references to the narrow path, ascetic self-denial, abstinence and fasting which seem offensive or overly restrictive to modern man, as well events from Acts, Church history and the lives of the saints which some find hard to accept.
Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? (Jn 6:60)
Beholding herself in chastity, the holy one spake boldly unto Gabriel: The strangeness of thy words seemeth hard to my soul to receive;

How do we acquire the mind of Christ and follow the Holy Fathers when confronted with the ecclesiological challenges facing the Orthodox Church in our modern day? Join Fr. Peter Heers in this podcast, first recorded in September 2022, for an examination of On the Dogma of the Church: An Historical Overview of the Sources of Ecclesiology by the Holy Hieromartyr Hilarion (Troitsky). This text explores patristic resources from the early centuries of Christianity and brings seminal works at the periphery of the consciousness of every Christian to the forefront as living witnesses to the unbroken tradition of the Church. St. Hilarion's staggeringly extensive familiarity with sources both patristic and modern, coupled with his own lucid thinking and profoundly Orthodox outlook, superbly equip him for his comprehensive analysis of the subject.

Join Fr. Peter Heers in this lecture first given in February of 2022, as he addresses a most important topic: St. Nicodemos the Hagiorite, the Rudder or Collection of Canons of the Holy Church, and the reception of the Heterodox into the Orthodox Church. In this podcast we sit at the feet of St. Nicodemos and the Holy Kollyvades Fathers to gain understanding of a subject so often misunderstood in our day.
Apolytikion of St. Nikodemos of the Holy Mountain - Third Tone
Thou hast been shown to be a godly clarion of holy oracles, teaching us righteousness. Thou wast adorned with wisdom's grace, O Father, Saint Nikodemos
For thou didst present to all thy pure life as a paradigm,
pouring forth enlightenment by the wealth of thy godly words.
Thy teachings of salvation illumined as light the whole world, O righteous Father.

Peter Heers in this extended podcast, first aired in May of 2022, as he seeks to answer these questions and more by sitting at the feet of the Holy Fathers and Elders of our day.

Blessed art Thou, O Christ our God, Who hast shown forth the fishermen as supremely wise by sending down upon them the Holy Spirit, and through them didst draw the world into Thy net. O Befriender of man, glory be to Thee
Most Christians are aware of the awe-inspiring events of the Old Testament in which God prepared the people of Israel for the coming of the Messiah, the Son of God, with prophecies and types. Few, however, know that the common Father of all also cultivated the fields of the nations that they may also receive the seed of His Word and bring forth fruit. In the first part of this lecture, given at Three Hierarchs Academy in the winter of 2018, Fr. Peter presents the signs, witnesses and prophecies, the “θεία οικονομία,” or mystery of salvation, of the coming into the world of the Messiah, the Theanthropos, Jesus Christ, the expectation of the nations. In the second part, Fr. Peter examines the opposing spirit of secularism and Ecumenism, the mystery of iniquity, which is at work through nefarious means to bring the Anti-Messiah, the man of sin, to a position of global dominion, in order for the nations to accept him as their messiah, fulfilling the prophecies of the Lord and His Apostles concerning the rise of the Antichrist.

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

12,383 Reasons (to date) Why I will not be Inoculated.
In this presentation I, an Orthodox Christian Priest and Professor of Theology, will be presenting the reasons why I will not be Inoculated with the Experimental Genetically manipulated solutions for a v-- which has a 99.7% survival rate - if you contract it...
If you want to see all 12,383 reasons against inoculation you will need to remain until the end of the podcast.
For months now people have written me and asked me to produce a podcast on the inoculations and to share why it is that I will not be receiving any of them. Undoubtedly there is much - very much - one can say from many perspectives. So as not to repeat what has been well-stated elsewhere, I will direct you to a few posts below in the description which are noteworthy.
I will focus, rather, on those reasons which are perhaps unique to the Orthodox Christian outlook and have not been stressed much to date. . .

Today on The Orthodox Ethos Podcast, the Professor of Dogmatic Theology, Demetrios Tselengides: On the Lack of Distinction Between the Theanthropic Body and the Body of Humanity: the Root of our Problems
This interview was conducted on June 1st. In spite of this, the content continues to be very relevant and the message of great importance for the people of God.
Time stamps:
00:38- Question 1: Can we speak of the life-giving power of Holy Communion in the context of physical health?
01:37- Answer 1: The body of which we partake in the Eucharist is the risen body of Christ...
02:53 - The example of St. Basil the Great...
05:08 - Question 2: So we can receive health of both soul and body from Holy Communion?
05:18 - Answer 2: Yes, we can...but this is left to the discretion of God since it is not always good for us to be healthy
06:10 - Question 3: If one does not wear a mask in Church is this a sign of a lack of love?
07:00 - Answer 3: The error lies in the assumptions. . . the problem is that we did not accept what has happened as a penance sent by God...
09:36 - God allowed for this to happen so that we might repent...i.e. an existential turn to God and absorption of our spirit [nous[ in God
13:26- Question 4: Is the entire picture that is presented, then, the problem?
13:30 - Answer 4: Yes...this Body does not exclude any member from communion of God and Man
14:27 - A Rhetorical Question: On what basis can a faithful man go to Church knowing that he is thereby preventing someone else from going?
15:22 - Concerning Masks and entering into the worldly mentality...
15:52 - We did not take the Scriptural perspective into account.
16:57 - We've reached the point where the scientists determine the policy of the politicians and the politicians determine the life of the Church...
18:35 - Question 5: If you could go to a church where no measures were enforced, would you go?
18:44 - Answer: I would go..without a mask, without limits on attendance, as I would not trample upon my conscience . . .
19:39 - Even so, I have not for I have personally received a penance from Christ Himself, and through repentance I await for Him to lift it...
20:13 - The wonderful 'recipe' of St. Nicholas Kabasilas: for the sake of a sick man, a healthy man can spiritually take the medicine the sick man needs...
Biographical Details:
Professor Tselengidis’ depth of knowledge, his education and studies, and his diligent research and labor have made him an internationally renowned academic theologian of Orthodox Dogmatic Theology. His most important offering and characteristic, however, is his work’s fidelity to the Holy Tradition and the Deposit of the Holy Fathers, a faithfulness he acquired by following experiential theologians of our day, such as Saints Paisios of Mt. Athos and Ephraim of Katounakia. He considers himself a humble minister, always emphasizing the absolute interrelation of right doctrine with the right way of life, distancing himself from the creation of a sterile and cold academic discourse.
He is the author countless articles and seven books on Dogmatic Theology, covering a wide range of topics, including the theology of the icon, grace and freedom, critical studies of the doctrine of salvation in Luther and the satisfaction of divine justice in Anslem of Canterbury, the Soteriology of Western Christianity, and the presuppositions and criteria of Orthodox Theology. Through his many lectures, articles, and appeals to the hierarchy on pressing ecclesiastical matters such as the Orthodox-Roman Catholic, and Orthodox-A
The Professor of Dogmatic Theology at the University of Thessaloniki, Demetrios Tselengides, talks to us about the move by some to change the method of Holy Communion and the ensuing temptation of little Faith.
00:35 - Question 1: The use of many lavides ("spoons"), is it blessed and in accordance with Holy Tradition?
02:14 - The "good uneasiness" of the Faithful is a god sign.
03:31 - The Church is led by the Holy Spirit; those faithful who are spiritually "deactivated" are in danger
06:01- The Canons of the Church define what may be done
07:10 - The Church is always caring pastorally for the exactitude of safeguarding [Holy Communion]
10:22 - We commune of the very Body and Blood that defeated death itself, defeated the evil one, defeated sin, and is thereafter a carrier of life.
12:21 - If during this trial, this temptation, we fall into the temptation, we are essentially falling away from the Church
15:03 - There are no testimonies for 2,000 years that any harm has come to priests through Holy Communion.
16:45 - Question 2: So it isn’t correct to say that we separate the spoon from Holy Communion, that the spoon does not participate, and so that it could be a carrier of sicknes?
16:58 - This rationale leads us into rationalism and considering all the Holy Vessels as conduits for illness.
18:02 - The critical and all-important question is not so much what is done as why it is done.

Through his many lectures, articles, and appeals to the hierarchy on pressing ecclesiastical matters such as the Orthodox-Roman Catholic, and Orthodox-Anti-Chalcedonian Dialogues, the documents of the Cretan council, and the Ukrainian schism Professor Tselingides has given much courage and consolation to the faithful.

The First of a Three-part series of interviews with Professor of Dogmatic Theology at the University of Thessaloniki, Demetrios Tselingides, on the Ecclesiastical and Spiritual Crisis We Now Face.
We have a tremendous need in the Church today for the Patristic word, for answers to the faithful’s questions, and the challenges the Church is facing, based upon the teaching of the Holy Fathers. This is especially true for those outside of Greece, in the West, who are troubled and scandalized by the response which has been offered to date, and who are in search of consolation and clarity. Professor Tselengides comes to fill this need today.
Professor Tselingidis’ depth of knowledge, education, studies, diligent research and labor have made him an internationally renowned academic theologian of Orthodox Dogmatic Theology. His most important characteristic, however, is his work’s fidelity to the Holy Tradition and the Deposit of the Holy Fathers, a faithfulness he acquired by following experiential theologians of our day, such as Saints Paisios of Mt. Athos and Ephraim of Katounakia. He considers himself a humble minister, always emphasizing the absolute interrelation of right doctrine with the right way of life, distancing himself from the creation of a sterile, cold academic discourse.

We come to him once again, during this time of troubles that the Church of Christ is facing, troubles not on account of a virus or pandemic, but on account of the undermining of, and departure from, the Orthodox Identity, Dogma and Ethos.

In this Episode and Podcast we explore the distinguishing characteristic of being a true Christian: The Orthodox Ethos. This characteristic is revealed in the spirit and mindset of those illumined and regenerated in Christ. In their enlightened faces we come to see the human person and world anew, free of demonic distortion. Through their witness, we are introduced, or reintroduced, to Christ Incarnate, the Diachronic Presence of God, who truly promised that He would be with us unto the end of the world.

Join Fr. Peter Heers from his Greek mountain village as he explores and presents the distinguishing characteristic of being a Christian: The Orthodox Ethos.
