Barbara Pastie holds a BA in biology and chemistry from Elms College in Chicopee, MA and an MS in management from Antioch New England Graduate School. Her pre-retirement career centered on supporting elders and people with developmental disabilities through work and volunteerism at Berkshire County human service agencies. In 2010 she retired from her full-time position as a training specialist at Berkshire County Arc where she continues to offer her expertise as a Human Rights Consultant, training staff in the areas of human rights and disability awareness. After several years of studying dance with Dan Leven, Barbara received her certification as a Shake Your Soul® instructor from the Leven Institute for Expressive Movement in Lenox, MA. She currently teaches this unique form of dance and movement to people of all ages and abilities with a focus on seniors and people with disabilities. In addition, Barbara is also an Usui/Holy Fire II and Holy Fire II Karuna Reiki® Master, trained in the US and Europe. She incorporates energy work into her dance classes and uses movement in Reiki meditations that she does with her students, clients and friends.

Barbara has been married to her husband, Paul, for 48 years. Their daughter, Michelle, lives in Florida and has one son. Their beloved son, Daniel, transitioned in 2013 at the age of 38 after suffering a cerebral aneurysm.
