The onions of Tom and Malva Christie come further into focus this week as we start to unwrap the mystery surrounding Malva’s existence.
Settle in with a good strong cuppa and join me as I discuss Jamie’s massive predicament. On deck this week: walking the line between the Snow Bird Cherokee and the rebels of the American Revolution. I also chat about Ian’s reaction to Jamie’s fence sitting, Roger’s budding role as Mediator of The Ridge, and Bree’s journey to make their 18th century home a bit more…erm… modern. Of course, you can’t talk about 602 without discussing the increasing tension between Fergus and Marsali, and boy there is A LOT of it. So, you may want to take a page out of Fergus’s playbook and put a tot of whisky in that cup of tea.
Greetings Obsassenachs! This week kicks off my analysis of season six as I chat all things 601: “Echoes”. Join me as I discuss the importance of the twenty-minute long cold open, a few things that concerned me regarding the timeline of the season opener, and some key differences you may notice about the look of show. I also speak to Claire’s emotional state following the events of the season five finale, Fergus and Marsali’s looming implosion, and the sweet spot Bree and Roger have found in their relationship.
Hello everyone! This week I was joined by my friend Angela to continue our discussion of Jamie Fraser live on TSF Obsassenachs. We pick up with his time in the Jacobite Army and that informs the roles he takes on in later seasons (and books). We also chat about his journey as a father, his relationship with Lord John, and how the reemergence of Murtagh limited his growth as a character in seasons four and five. Of course there is much more to this super sized episode including his decision to marry Laoghaire, his decision to turn down River Run, and his time as laird of Fraser's Ridge. So grab some coffee (or a dram) and a wee bite, because you’re in for an unscripted and entertaining journey through the later years of JAMMF!
Hey Obsassenachs! This week I’m taking a wee detour from Outlander for my first edition of Droughtlander Book Club. The subject of this week’s chat is The Ruby Brooch, the first novel in The Celtic Brooch series by Katherine Lowry Logan. Come join me as I dive deep into the characters of the novel and the history of the Oregon Trail (the historical setting for this novel). I also take a look at Katherine’s writing style, her use of symbolism, and the inclusion of major themes such as grief, loss, and forgiveness. In preparation for this book study, I also had the opportunity to ask the author a few questions, and those answers are sprinkled throughout my analysis as well. Enjoy!
Greetings wonderful listeners! This week I was joined by my friend Angela Hickey of Outlandercast Clan Book Club and Queen Bee’s Hive (Patreon) to break down every facet of Jamie Fraser’s very nuanced character. Because his story is broad in scope and crucial to the overall shape of Outlander, it was impossible for us to cover everything in one episode. So in Part One of our King of Men duo, we discussed his backstory including the influence his family had on him growing up, his faith as a Celtic Christian, and the events of Wentworth Prison and how that created a ripple effect throughout the rest of the series. Make sure to check back for more details on Part Two coming soon!

I also dive deep into all of the call backs surrounding previous episodes, the critical role Lord John plays in raising William, and how this was the perfect time for Ian to learn about this crazy thing call time travel.

Mary Hawkins and her destiny are revealed, and Mother Hildegarde and wee Fergus also come on the scene!
This week on “The Sassenach Files” I’m talking episode 202 of Outlander: “Not In Scotland Anymore”. Join me, Chelsea, as I discuss the cast of new characters we meet, the implications of Jamie’s new relationship with Prince Charlie, and the plight of Murtagh and Claire as they struggle to adapt to the alien world of Parisian society. I also talk about my love of Ira Steven Behr, Terry Dresbach, and John Gary Steele who all blew it out of the park this episode with their respective crafts! Enjoy!!
In this episode of The Sassenach Files, I’m taking a look at 201: “Through A Glass Darkly”. Claire has returned to the 20th century, and no one has any idea what the hell is going on. Deep in her grief, she is struggling to acclimate back to 20th century life, and while Frank is elated his wife has reappeared, the revelation she is pregnant makes it pretty hard to ignore the tall, red-headed elephant in the room. And just when we are getting our bearings, we are thrown back to the 18th century to pick up right where season one left off. Will the physical and emotional whiplash ever end? The numbers are still coming in, but it’s not looking likely…
It’s time for another episode of The Sassenach Files, and this week I’m talking the season one finale, “To Ransom A Man’s Soul”. Jamie has to decide what is worth fighting for in this one, and Claire is determined to not let him give up. This episode was a controversial one for a lot of viewers, and I dive into my personal feelings on it’s graphic nature, how I felt the actors portrayed their characters, and what the toughest part of the episode was for me.
Hello again! This time on The Sassenach Files, I'm discussing 115 of Outlander: "Wentworth Prison". Our two main characters go through an emotional hurricane this week, and their lives are left in tatters. Jamie is forced to make a heart wrenching sacrifice to save Claire after a botched rescue attempt, and we are left to wonder if any good can come out of this season with only one episode left. Stay tuned to find out!
This week I’m analyzing 114 of Outlander “The Search”. This episode is all about Claire’s growing relationships with two strong characters: Jenny and Murtagh. On their search for Jamie, we learn a little bit about what makes these characters tick We also have a run in with the character you all know I love to hate -- Dougal. Enjoy!
In this episode I analyze episode 113 of Outlander “The Watch”. Jamie has taken a rather difficult path to get where he is, and it’s made even more difficult when Horrocks shows up demanding money in exchange for silence. Jenny’s impending delivery, Claire’s admission of potential infertility, and the presence of Taran MacQuarrie and company only serve to ratchet up the tension that was already on high.
A return to The Sassenach Files equals a return to Lallybroch for an analysis on 112 of Outlander. This episode is all about the divide that has occurred between Jamie and his family in his absence. The Fraser siblings are dealing with a lot of heart stuff including guilt over their father’s death, uncertainty surrounding the Black Jack Randall situation, and the lack of communication in the four years since Jamie’s departure. In-law bonding is also in the cards with a little Ian and Claire alliance.
Greetings Sassenach Files universe!! This week we are discussing 111, “The Devil’s Mark”. Claire had a decision to make, and for the first time didn’t have anything or anyone forcing her hand. Other topics of discussion include Geillis’s emotional evolution, the folklore- based mob mentality, and how absolutely AMAZING Jamie is. Enjoy!
Welcome back to The Sassenach Files! This week we are talking episode 110, "By The Pricking of My Thumbs" where we meet a new character. The jury is still out on whether he is friend or foe, but there's no doubt he is definitely into JAMMF. Claire wars with her 20th century instincts, Geillis reveals her lover's identity, and Jamie gets the short end of the stick...again. Special thanks to Richard Clark for that opening scene :)
This week on The Sassenach Files we discuss 109 of Outlander, “The Reckoning”. We dive deep into these topics and discuss how they make “The Reckoning” an amazing episode of Outlander.
