To win the presidency, the nominee needs at least 270 votes. Currently, the president-elect is projected to win at least 279 votes and that number could rise. Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina remain too close to call.
Former President George W. Bush has congratulated Biden. On Sunday, Bush released a statement saying in part that he extended his congratulations and thanked him for his patriotic message from Saturday night. Bush also called Kamala Harris to congratulate her on her historic election to the vice presidency.
The First Lady is speaking out about the election. Melania Trump tweeted in part, "every legal vote should be counted." Sources tell CNN, the First Lady, and several others in Trump's inner circle are urging him to concede and accept the loss.
Joe Biden is set to announce his coronavirus task force on Monday. More than 237,400 people have died from Covid-19 in the United States. At least nine million total cases of coronavirus have been reported in the country.
