The United States has topped 15 million covid-19 cases, which adds to the 1.4 million cases from the first week of December alone. There has been 285,000 deaths in the United States from coronavirus. The FDA review confirms that the Pfizer vaccine is safe and effective ahead of its expected authorization this week.
United States President-elect Joe Biden has introduced his health team and vows that the members of that team will be "ready on day one" of Biden's presidency to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Biden is going to nominate retired General Lloyd Austin as his defense secretary.
Wolf Blitzer has a one-on-one with the Assistant Secretary for Health Admiral Brett Giroir. Giroir talks about the first vaccines being administered. in the United Kingdom, while Trump signs an executive order that prioritizes Americans for the coronavirus vaccines. Giroir says that they are "incredibly concerned" about the spread of the coronavirus.
There is a showdown happening in regards to the vote on the defense spending bill and Trump is threatening to veto the bill. Lawmakers are also negotiating on a possible stimulus bill.
