As the sun arrives and social options increase, a bit more energy has crept back into the show which has been somewhat sedentary over the last year, probably reflecting my lifestyle during mutliple lockdowns & a wet winter. So take a wander through global roots, desert blues, pulsing slowtronica, slide into some deep ambient and maybe shake a leg to the slow house finale.

I've admired Low Light Mixes selections and work ethic for a long time, he's not one of the biggest chill out selectors on Mixcloud for nothing. Very kindly, as he was aware I was releasing a compilation called Future Folk: Friendly Faces; Different Spaces - a vivid snapshot of where folk has been, where it's at and where it might be heading, he suggested I do a folkcentric mix to promote it, and here we are.

Many apologies for missing last month, I had a music meltdown trying to port my large, well organised iTunes library to Apple Music. After about 15 hours on the phone the issue was resolved, apart from the fact that Apple Music is so slow as to be unusuable - nice one Apple. :(

As well as the mix I've written a brief essay on the history of New Age music from its 60's counter cultural roots and glacial evolution into the mood playlists of today. I also had a pop at modern living, neo-liberalism and threw in an overly simplistic solution for good measure.

So I've been a bit slack with the mixtapes recently but that is about to change, kicking off with the first in a series of Slow mixes. This one I've done especially for the [Group Mind](https://www.facebook.com/groups/groupmind/://) label/collective/discussion forum ambient fiends.

As the title suggest this one largely focusses on musicians that are also electronic producers or musicians that make their instruments sound like machines. I also threw in a couple of straight up tracks with an ambient vibe that fitted the flow nicely.

So take a wander through a world where cultures unite, musical instruments and machines mingle, genres are blurred, the nature of ambient is questioned, spirituality & agnosticism meet in the middle, love is everywhere and music is King.

We're about quality, laid back music, predominantly from independent artists and labels. It's a laid back affair with the best new ambient, downtempo, Balearic, freaky folk, drones and tones, stoned soul, electronica, dub flavours, psychedelic vibes, deep house, lazy jazz, leftfield beats and pieces, peyote pop, soundtracks and any other great lazy, atmospheric, hard to describe music that we've just found.

So I've been meaning to get this selection out into the wild for a while as I have been getting more interested in Americana, folk and singer songwriters over the last couple of years so I decided to put a selection of my favourite modern purveyors of these styles together and as an extra twist pick a generally psychedelic leaning selection.

Even in the north of Europe summer seems to have arrived so to celebrate here is the first of the Summer Daze mix series and it's our most uptempo musical cocktail so far. Using a good imported soul liqueur we add a Balearic mixer and some hip loosening African bitters, pour it all over crushed electronic ice for that Berlin cool, garnish with some lush deep house, seasonal dub berries and pop in an AOR umbrella to finish off this warm weather cocktail. Best served on a well located terrace with a sunset view and room to move your hips as you get lower down the glass.

So most of the mixes so far from us have been fairly chilled, maybe upping the tempo a little near the end so we thought it was time to get your head nodding and toes tapping. You probably won't burst out dancing around the living room but we've put together a nice selection of soulful, jazzy, funky beats & pieces, thrown in a little Brazilian, a bit of dub, some African vibes even a bit of stoner rock and got a steady groove on just to keep your head nodding rather than let you nod off.

Whilst I'm here we've finally launched the website (www.theslowmusicmovement.org) and the social media is now in full effect if you want to stay in touch. We try and post daily a new musical discovery and there are some good tips online, even if I say so myself. Welcome to the difficult sophomore Slow Music Movement radio show, always tricky but I think we've nailed it.

So here is the first of The Slow Music Movement Dub mixes and trust us there's going to be a few of these. Ever since the 60's in Jamaica dub has been gradually infiltrating the outer reaches of music production and, despite increased awareness due to the rise (and fall) of dubstep in recent years, it has never fully gained mainstream acceptance. Instead it's been lurking in the musical shadows adding it's staple traits and effects to outsider music across the genre spectrum and this mix attempts to highlight some of those backwater resting places for this most timeless of musical genres.

So the second installment of the newly minted Lazy Days mix series is up for listening. It's an eclectic selection of laid back tunes mostly from this year but this time I've also thrown in a couple of older tunes that helped to connect the disparate styles. It's not easy listening lounge designed to wash over you & a good listen or two will definitely be rewarded.

So from ambient to dubstep, hip hop to beats, deep house to Balearic, a couple of quirky pop numbers & a forgotten Zouk classic to finish - it's all here in a nice flowing mix which attempts to make sense of all the various styles.

So the second mix from The Slow Music Movement is here & after the soporific vibes of the inaugural Horizontal #1 mix we raise the tempo slowly, throw in a few beats & try and make sense out of various styles of music from Ethiopian, reggae, hip hop, Americana, electronica through to soul, future boogie, jazz & super slow dreamy house. The main connection between all the tracks is that they are some of our favourite chilled tunes from the first 6 months of 2016.

What struck us is quite how many of those tunes we brought on Bandcamp which is one of our favourite places to go digging digitally & with the added bonus that most of the money goes direct to the artists that make such great music, if you don't know the platform check it out.
