Adam checks in with Richard about his smart home acquisitions from the past year, including new lighting solutions from Inovelli and Legrand, a smart outlet from Leviton, and the Nest Learning Thermostat v4.
They also discuss the Mill Food Recycler, which turns food scraps into something resembling coffee grounds. Those grounds can then be composted, used as fertilizer, or shipped back to Mill to be turned into chicken feed.
If you want a Mill of your own, you can get $200 off using Richard's referral link.
Adam and Richard talk about the state of AI in the smart home, including fridges with computer vision and how Josh.ai is trying to fix voice-controlled home automation. Then, they talk about Apple's AI-related announcements at WWDC, including a huge tie-up with OpenAI ... but when, exactly, will we see this tech on all our devices?
Also on today's episode: Why Apple is playing catch up with its virtual assistant Siri, rumors of a new HomePod with a screen, and how does everyone feel about the ethics of AI content scraping, anyway?

Adam has been testing the Kaleidescape home theater movie platform, and on our last episode, he interviewed the company's director of technical marketing, Andre Floyd. Today, Richard interviews Adam about what he's learned from using the so-called "ultimate movie platform," who should definitely use it, and who might want to think twice before investing in it.
They discuss ease of setup, movie selection, converting DVDs to digital titles, parental controls, pricing, and more. Kaleidescape provided Adam the hardware to try it out, but at the end of the interview, he explains whether or not he would pay full MSRP to have this in his home theater.

Adam sits down with Andre Floyd, director of technical marketing at the "ultimate movie platform" Kaleidescape, to talk about his experience testing their hardware in his home theater, and what makes Kaleidescape different from other digital media solutions. It's an in-depth conversation about movies, smart home integrations, and how to get the most out of your at-home movie collection. On the next episode, Adam will share a full review of the product with Richard.

Today, he recounts to Richard what he learned in the final stages of the process, including: Why you should probably get professional movers for your chairs; why one of the last steps may fill your house with hours of weird sounds; and why he decided to equip the room with an Apple TV, an Nvidia Shield, and a 4K Blu-Ray player.
Plus: What would Adam do differently if he were doing this project over again? Would he do it all over again? And other than smart home & home theater hardware, what do Adam and Richard collect for fun?

TJ Huddleston from the HomeTech Podcast and Richard Gunther join Adam Justice at his home in Illinois to talk about the progress being made on Adam's nearly completed home theater, and the setbacks that have kept it from being totally completed. Those include getting the walls and ceiling painted, a missing part that required Adam and TJ to take a field trip to an electronics mecca, and a screen so finicky it requires millimeter-accurate measurements during setup. Plus: A few important lessons in project management and communication, and a listener question about wireless smoke detectors that work with HomeKit.

If you've paid any attention to home robotics over the past decade, you've probably noticed one thing: all home robots are basically single function devices that vacuum our rugs or roll around on the floor.
But Misty Robotics' Tim Enwall hopes to change that. You may remember Tim from his days as CEO of Revolv, the company behind the super hub that included seven radios. After spending a couple years at Nest after they acquired Revolv, he made his way over to another Boulder, Colorado company in Sphero to head up the company's home robot spinout.

Back in 2014, Shaun Moore and his cofounder started selling a consumer video doorbell called Chui with facial recognition and detection technology. Shaun talks about those early days, the competitive video doorbell market, the pivot to becoming an enterprise facial recognition/detection technology provider and the future where your face is your key.

In this episode, Mike looks at Andy Rubin's new smart home platform, Essential Home. Rubin believes he can eliminate all the friction and fragmentation consumers face today with all the various platforms by focusing on integration. He's created a smart home platform that plans to play nice with other platforms and hopefully get us out of a seemingly endless world of smart home apps and interfaces.
Our guest in this episode is Pawel Orzechowski, the Director of Systems Software at Neato Robotics.
