The Three of Wands in the Minor Arcana is the card that rules expansion and foresight, and progress with the plan you had in place that you had made indicated by the Two of Wands.

However, there is also a consideration of more opportunities that can help with the expansion of the strategy that is current.

And then this has a better chance to reach the goal you had in mind, to attain.

Personally, I do not find this card particularly interesting or one that evokes emotions, but I will talk about it anyway.

So let's now talk about the history and appearance of the Three of Wands.

The History And Appearance Of The Three Of Wands

The history of the Three of Wands tarot card is fascinating.

It is believed to have originated in Italy during the Renaissance when tarot cards were first used for divination purposes.

At this time, the Three of Wands was known as the "Knight of Wands" and represented a young man embarking on a journey or quest.

Over time, the meaning of the Three of Wands has evolved to encompass more than just physical travel.

It now also represents inner journeys and personal growth.

So now, let's talk about the appearance of this card in the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck.

You see a man wearing red and green robes as is on a cliff.

His back is turned back, and he has these three wands anchoring in the ground, representing that he is committing to his plans.

He left the castle, which was his comfort zone, meaning he ventured out of it, which you saw in the Two of Wands.

He sees that three ships are sailing, which represents forward movement.

He looks at the sea and mountains, which represent the obstacles but opportunities coming his way.

Now, let's talk about what it means when you get the Three of Wands in a reading.

What It Means To Get The Three Of Wands In A Reading

The Three of Wands tarot card is all about potential and possibility.

This card suggests that you can achieve great things, but it will take some effort on your part.

The Three of Wands also indicate that you may need to take some risks to achieve your goals.

This is not a card that means you will automatically succeed, but it does mean that you have the potential to achieve success if you are willing to put in the work.

If you are currently facing challenges, the Three of Wands tarot card suggests that now is the time to focus on your goals and put forth the effort required to achieve them.

This is an optimistic card, so believe in yourself and your abilities and you will be able to achieve great things.

Another meaning of the Three of Wands tarot card is that it is often associated with exploration and adventure.

The three wands represent three different paths that can be taken in life, and the card usually signifies a time of choice and decisions.

So if you go back to the moving example spoken about in the Two of Wands episode, you will see that was the time to plan, but with the Three of Wands, you are actively selling and looking for a place to live simultaneously.

You have your real estate agent, they are showing your home, and at the same time, you are using their help, or the help of another agent to find a place to live.

And let's go to the mental health example.

You know that your mental health has not been great which is why you know it is the time to talk to your therapist with an action plan on how to manage your mental health indicated by the Two of Wands.

The Three of Wands is when you actively work on that plan as the objective is to achieve a better way to manage your mental health.

Risa Green briefly got to that point during the times when she was seeing her therapist but it did not stick around.

As usual, the Three of Wands reversed seems to be her life story.

Three of Wands Reversed

When the Three of Wands is reversed, it is indicative that the opportunities are still there for you, but you are not taking advantage of them because you are limiting yourself.

Maybe you don’t think you are capable of more than you can do. But you are losing out.

For example, you may be experiencing blockages in your creativity, which means your planning is halted, or there may be unexpected delays, which means it will take longer for you to attain your goal.

You have to wonder how often Risa made plans to do something, but because she does not believe in herself, she did not go through it.

I know during my echoist days, I did the same thing.

I would see opportunities to grab, but I backed away when it was time to take action.

At times when I started my freelance writing business, I thought about creating products, and even made plans to do so with potential joint venture partners.

However, when it was time to start taking action, I found excuses not to go ahead with them.

That is definitely a Three of Wands reversed type of situation.

How can you apply the Three of Wands to your life?

How To Apply The Three of Wands To Your Life

The gist of it is not to do what I did out of fear.

When you are in the planning stage indicated by the Two of Wands, then take full of advantage of turning it into something by taking action shown by the Three of Wands.

Therefore, the best thing you can do is not hesitate to take action and go past the planning stage of anything.

Or, if there is a particular path you want to take, but you fear it because you don't know if others around you will approve, then you know this is your life.

Keep this card with you to remind you to take the path you want to take, such as a religious or spiritual path.

One that you did not grow up with, as you know that your family would disapprove if you took a different direction.

Those are the main ways to apply the Three of Wands to your life.

The next card I find more interesting is the Four of Wands, which I will discuss next time!
