We continue to learn about the current situation and history of Palestine and Israel, through the experiences of people who know and love the people and place. On November 12, 2023, Steve Chase (formerly of Putney, VT, Friends Meeting) presented his reflections and observations from his summer trip to Israel and Palestiner. Steve is the author of the Pendle Hill Pamphlet, Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions? A Quaker Zionist Rethinks Palestinian Rights. The visit was a FUM “living letters” trip led by Max and Jane Carter. Max and Jane are both members of North Carolina Fellowship of Friends.

Quaker chaplain and Earth Quaker Carl Magruder speaks about the Great Unraveling that is taking place now as the breakdown of the industrial growth society that we know, and the possibility of the Great Turning toward a life-giving and life-sustaining order. During this time of the Great Unraveling and the Great Turning (terms used by Joanna Macy), it is normal to experience grief and fear. Carl teaches the wisdom in accepting our grief and facing our fears in order to recognize and contribute to the courageous and prophetic ways necessary to bring in a new way of life.
This video is excerpted from a February 2020 Nurturing Faithfulness interview conducted by Marcelle Martin. The video editor is Cai Quirk. Karie Firoozmand supported the editing. The project received funding from the Obadiah Brown and Sarah Swift Benevolent Fund and the Legacy Fund in New England Yearly Meeting (Quakers).

Nurturing Worship, Faith & Faithfulness presents short video interviews with Friends carrying ministries or following leadings. We hope that these short videos might be used as conversation starting points in adult religious education programs and small-group discussions. We also hope that some of these short clips will be interesting and inspiring enough to encourage people to watch recordings of the full interviews. The first three clips available are from conversations with Diego Navarro of Pacific Yearly Meeting.
The Nurturing Faithfulness program is co-sponsored by New England Yearly Meeting, Woolman Hill Retreat Center, and Beacon Hill Friends House. This interview and short video project has received grants from the Obadiah Brown Benevolent Fund and the Legacy Gift Fund. Cai Quirk is the video editor.

In this interview we hear from Quaker farmers Megan and Craig Jensen, who are also educators and builders of community. They met in 2003 while working for the Meeting School in Ringe, NH. In addition to growing food, they served that Quaker educational community as teachers, house-parents and cooks. When the school closed in 2011, they began farming the land, growing vegetables and flowers. They have connected with a wider community through their CSA and also by co-founding a small cohousing neighborhood called The South of Monadnock Community, through membership at Monadnock Friends Meeting (Quakers), and by connecting and cooperating with other local farmers.
In this interview, they describe the spiritual inspiration for their call to farm the land in a sustainable way, in connection with circles of community. They speak of the need for everyone to ground themselves in the reality of what is needed to sustain life, and they tell stories about facing the changes and challenges that climate change is bringing, with simplicity, wise use of resources, humility, good relationships, and joy. This interview contains an invitation to engage in their ongoing ministry and to support it.

Hear financial stewardship consultants Lyle Miller and Craig Foor exploring what it might mean to integrate your faith and your approach to financial planning. Lyle and Craig will talk about some of the questions they’ve gotten from their Quaker clients as well as what comprehensive financial planning is, how stewardship is about much more than just what you do with your money, and some ways many of us can be more effective in the way we give to our meetings and the other organizations close to our hearts.
You can connect with Lyle and Craig directly by visiting Everence.com or by email them at [email protected] or [email protected].

You are about to hear Quaker writer and teacher Marcelle Martin’s January 30, 2022 presentation on the Radical Quaker Spiritual Journey. You will also hear the voice of Jennifer Hogue of Friends Meeting at Cambridge, who introduces Marcelle.
You may notice some abrupt transitions in the recording. This is because this presentation was originally an interactive webinar so we’ve cut out the breakout group exercises as well as some recorded music and time-specific announcements.
If you want to know more about Marcelle’s writing and teaching, her website is awholeheart.com. And her book, Our Life is Love, which goes into more detail on the ten elements of the Radical Quaker Spiritual Journey, is available via her website as well as via the publisher Inner Light Books and through other booksellers.
To learn more about Marcelle’s 9-month faith & leadership program, Nurturing Faithfulness, or to connect with Quakers in New England, visit neym.org.

How can the Religious Society of Friends gracefully navigate generational transitions and work to raise up young adult leadership in our communities? What are the opportunities to live into worship and our lives with one another in new ways through these transitions? Diane Randall, outgoing general secretary of the Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), will reflect on these queries in conversation with Nils Klinkenberg, executive director of Beacon Hill Friends House (BHFH).
