Clarice Aiello - Quantum Biology

35 min • 15 april 2023
Dr. Clarice Aiello discusses the emerging field of quantum biology and explores how quantum spin states mediate biological reactions - and how modulated EM fields may lead to future treatment therapies. Dr. Clarice Aiello, Assistant Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering at UCLA, and Principal Investigator at UCLA's Quantum Biology Tech Lab. Clarice is a quantum engineer interested in how quantum physics informs biology at the nanoscale, and her research group works to perform quantum measurements on “living sensors,” such as proteins, cells and microorganisms, to understand how they interact with their environment. Clarice has a PhD in Electrical Engineering from MIT, an Engineering Diploma from École Polytechnique, and a Master's of Philosophy in Physics from the University of Cambridge. She's held postdoc appointments at Stanford & UC Berkeley, and has expertise in quantum dots, photonic structures, and nanosensors harnessing room-temperature quantum effects in noisy environments.
