Eric Chan - China & Taiwan: Strategy, Diplomacy & Increasing Tensions

Eric Chan discusses increasing tensions in the Taiwan Straight after Nancy Pelosi's recent visit. China has encircled the island with naval forces conducting live-fire drills - is this a prelude to war? Eric Chan is a non-resident research fellow at the Global Taiwan Institute. Eric is also a strategist with the US Air Force at the Pentagon, where he provides USAF and Department of Defense leadership with expertise on PRC military capabilities, political leadership, strategic culture, and competition. Eric was previously the China, Korea, Philippines, and Vietnam Country Director at Air Force International Affairs office. He has also served as an analyst at Air Force Strategic Deterrence and Nuclear Integration office, providing expertise on PRC nuclear doctrine. Eric is widely published on Chinese influence operations/information warfare, Taiwan military reform, military diplomacy with the PLA, and the strategic balance in East Asia. He has written for publications including the USAF Journal of Indo-Pacific Affairs, The Diplomat, War on the Rocks, and the Foreign Policy Research Centre New Delhi Journal. He holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs from George Washington University and a BA in Political Science/History from the University of California, San Diego.
