Gennady Stolyarov II - The Technological Singularity

The Technological Singularity is an event-horizon created by accelerating change that makes future predictions impossible - or does it? Gennady Stolyarov II discusses his remarkable vision of the Singularity, and explains why this isn't humanity's first such event, and likely won't be our last. Stolyarov views the Singularity as John Von Neumann did, and from this perspective claims we've already had 3 historical technological singularities: the agricultural revolution, the industrial revolution, and the information revolution. Based on advances in computing power, Vernor Vinge estimated the Singularity would happen between between 2005 and 2030. Eliezer Yukowsky predicted 2021, Ray Kurzweil said 2045, and recent polls by Nick Bostrom and Vincent C. Müller estimate a 2040 to 2050 timeframe. In terms of what comes next, Futurists like Ray Kurzweil have focused heavily on Artificial Intelligence and self-improvement AI Superintelligence, but Stolyarov believes this is only one component of a much larger change, and the Singularity itself will be the product of a massive convergence of technological change, not one specific breakthrough. Gennady Stolyarov II is an actuary, philosopher, science-fiction novelist, poet, amateur mathematician, composer, and Editor-in-Chief of The Rational Argumentator, Chairman of the US Transhumanist Party, and Chief Executive of the Nevada Transhumanist Party, which he helped to found.
