Featured in TIR Episode 157 (Part 1 of 2): Singer-producer-composer-arranger Jay King, the mastermind behind success of the Timex Social Club and Club Nouveau. He promoted the former’s 1986 smash “Rumors” into the biggest independently released single of all time, while that same year the latter’s debut album went Top 5 R&B, Top 10 Pop and was certified multiplatinum. That record, Life, Love & Pain contained the Grammy-winning Bill Withers remake “Lean on Me,” as well as the Top 10 R&B hits “Jealousy,” “Situation #9” and “Why You Treat Me So Bad.” 

The group went on to release five more albums, the most recent in 2015, and two years later King released his second solo album. 

In addition to being a recording artist, King has worked in numerous capacities in the music and entertainment industry, including record companies, artists management, publishing books on the business, online radio networks and hosting his own radio shows. Hear his entire inspiring tale.
