It is incredibly important to understand why we practice cultural traditions, if not for the sheer interest of the intellect, at least for the preservation of ancestral belief, and the empowerment of the individual attempting to avoid exploitation in the hands of commercial interests. Halloween is fun for some and terrifying for others. While some celebrate the day others condemn the holiday - holy day - as a Satanic ruse. Ironically, the origins of many traditions, from costumes and trick-or-treating to carved pumpkins and bonfires, relate to the warding off of darkness, cold, and therefore evil. Whereas some see the holy day rooted in human sacrifice, historically it was a day to commune with loved ones and honor the dead.
