▌I What’s your history with music in general and DJ-ing especially?
Ibiza, Berlin and New York - these huge influences along with my international upbringing in Norway, Egypt and Poland and my family deeply rooted in classical music have certainly affected my approach to music in general, both in regards to DJ'ing and production.
Being one of the residents and co-creators of Ibizas weekly open-air party The Zoo Project on Ibiza had me living on the mediterranean island for more than 10 summers. Berlin, that I would always call my second home in the winter, exposed me to its raw creativity helping develop my production skills whilst playing at venues such as Kater Holzig, Sisyphos or Kitkat. My first visit to New York resulted in a collaboration betweenThe Zoo Project and Brooklyns finest warehouse parties Blk Market. Several years in a row I flew over to play at different warehouses of Brooklyn to share the decks with the likes of Robag Wruhme, Seth Troxler or Daniel Bell just to name a few. Being the first DJ to ever play at Panther Room/Output I soon started to frequently tour North America performing in top notch spots such as Housepitality in San Francisco, Creme de la Creme in Dallas, Smart Bar Chicago, Eaton Hotel in Washington DC and playing at several venues in my favourite Detroit. I have definitely incorporated a more soulful and groovy deep house and disco selection thanks to my trips to the U. S. of A., exploring the big cities and buying records at legendary record stores such as Gramophone (Chicago), Amoeba (San Francisco) or Detroit Threads (Detroit). In Europe I tremendously enjoy visiting the Berlin record shops such as Melting Point and Spacehall, where I dig for dub house, minimal and slow techno.
▌II Which tracks marks a highlight in your set?
The highlight of this set for me is mixing in the recently released C&K "January" track on Decay Records, which is a collaboration between Connie Yin (Resolute, NYC) and myself. So happy to finally have that out on vinyl! Great remixes on that EP as well, but I chose our original! :)
▌III How do you make use of technology?
I play strictly vinyl since 1999. My collection is around 10k records spanning across different electronic music styles and moods. I remember the artwork, not names, so playing vinyl comes very natural as I recognise the designs of the covers. I really love playing on rotary mixers, but this particular podcast was recorded in one go on two Technics 1210's and an A&H Xone two channel mixer. I do use software together with machines to create music and I appreciate the modern technology, but will stay true to the old school records as that is what I love and choose since over two decades.
