Nikola presents (https://soundcloud.com/marrrinkovic) United We Rise Podcast Nr. 074 🗯🗯 What’s your history with music in general and DJ-ing especially? 🗯🗯 My first contact with music was propably my dad's record collection. It was huge, because he used to be a radio DJ in Zagreb, Yugoslavia. He used to drive with his car to West-Berlin to buy the latest records, drive them back to Zagreb and play them immidiately as soon as he arrived. It was everything from then mid 70s rock music, Disco, Jazz or stuff as Einstürzende Neubauten and i remember never beeing allowed to touch the records as a child but we were doing mixtapes together. I would pick the music and record it on tapes and do covers for them by cutting out stuff from magazines. Later I moved to Berlin and was introduced to the scene of queer clubbing. I raved a lot on the dancefloors and always tried to buy the records of DJs i liked hearing in clubs. And then of course everything started by playing the records to friends and so on and so on. 🗯🗯 What are you missing the most since March 2020? 🗯🗯 First of all beeing hung over for a reason. You know? It's not that i haven't beeing partying here and there during the summer but the experiences I have made haven't been the same. For example: Usually I go out on a night / sunday and I'll meet a lot of friends, new people, make new experiences and most important: I see other queer people. This is the thing I probably miss the most. The community, the freedom of expressing yourself in a way that is now impossible. I would say that the dancefloor saved my life in a way that i was introduced to a world that didn't know before. It helped me coming out as a gay man and feeling accepted. It's the freedom i miss one only can truly experience on a dancefloor filled with sunday freaks. 🗯🗯 How did you prepare this mix and what was your main inspiration? 🗯🗯 It was a bit nerve wracking as i play vinyl and some records got stuck in customs i would like to play but anyways...there are plenty of other records to play and I think the main inspiration i got are the people surrounding me making music, friends and lovers.
