After a series of incredible victories, including his historic win at the 1930 Melbourne Cup, the beloved "Red Terror" passed away under suspicious circumstances while preparing for more races in North America. His death sparked an enduring mystery, as many speculated that the champion was poisoned due to his threat to American competition.

An autopsy revealed arsenic in Phar Lap's system, fueling theories of foul play. His loss was deeply felt in Australia, where he had become a symbol of hope and resilience during the Great Depression. Today, Phar Lap's legacy endures, with his preserved hide displayed at the Melbourne Museum and his skeleton in New Zealand, standing as a testament to his status as one of Australia’s most cherished icons.
