In this petite episode of Whisky Made Woman, I share what I want people to be able to say when a loved one, animal, land or experience dies. 

Will you be the courageous friend who says what no one else will? The truth. Loss is awful, but can you be the person who says this to the person dealing with the loss? Can you be the brave one who says - feck this is terrible!  

I stopped saying - sorry for your loss years ago. It isn't the medicine a broken heart needs to hear.

We want the truth - you must be devastated,  may I hold you for as long as you're comfortable, have a whisky, dance with me by the fire, and let's get outside and scream. Take that god damn black dress off and let's burn it! I've drawn a bath, now I'm going to put you in it and wash your hair. I'll lie beside you till morning, I'm here.

These are all things I've said to people and we love one another more deeply for it.
