Ali Ibn Abi Talib Ibn Abd al Muttalib Ibn Hashim Ibn Abd Manaf was born in the Sacred House (i.e. the Kaaba) in Mecca. Ali belonged to the clan of Banu Hashim, the most distinguished clan in all Arabia; and in Banu Hashim, he belonged to the most distinguished family – the family of Abdul Muttalib; his father was Abu Talib. His mother was Fatima, daughter of Asad Ibn Hashim Ibn Abd Manaf RA. She was like a mother to the Prophet ﷺ and his family, and he (the Prophet ﷺ) was brought up under her care. Ali RA had three brothers - Ja'far ibn Abī Tālib,Aqeel ibn Abi Talib and Talib ibn Abi Talib. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, gave his only daughter, Fatima Zahra, in marriage to Ali. Allah blessed this marriage with children who were Allah's most devout servants.
Ali deserved the nicknames that adorned his life and some among them are - Al-Amīr al-Mu'minīn (The Commander of the Faithful), Abu Turab (Father of Dust/Soil) and Asadullāh (Lion of God).
Ali is revered for his courage, knowledge, belief, honesty to Islam, deep loyalty to Muhammad ﷺ and generosity in forgiving his defeated enemies.He was an embodiment of magnanimous traits such as that of a poet, a soldier, and a saint. This most sacred lineage became the symbols of patience, piety, justice and all good attributes and qualities.
