This lecture by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi sheds light on the aspect of immigration to Madina and the technicalities of immigration. Was it an optional or a compulsory act?
The story of a sahabi who converted after the Prophet ﷺ migrated to Madinah is that of Jundah ibn Dhamura. This story makes for an interesting listen because of the sheer sincerity in following the rules of the Hijrah as was suggested at the time in spite of being challenged strength wise and much more.
When did the Prophet ﷺ migrate to Madinah? The opinion that is clearly agreed upon was that it happened in the month of Rabi Ul Awwal. It was the first Islamic year and the month of the Hijrah was the first month that corresponded to September 622 CE.
The Prophet ﷺ arrived in Kuba and waited for Ali ibn Abi Talib, Aisha RA and Asma RA and when they arrived he entered Madinah with them on a Friday. The Ansar took the Prophet ﷺ into Madinah and every sahaba wanted him to live with them. It was then decided to let the Prophet ﷺ camel walk freely and the Prophet ﷺ would reside wherever the camel chose to sit.the camel chose to sit near the house of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari who was from the tribe of Banu Najar. The Prophet ﷺ lived at the house of Abu Ayyub al Ansari for 6 months until his own house and Masjid was built.
The Masjid that was built had three main doors - Bab Rahmah (Door of Mercy), Bab Jibril (Door of Gabriel), Bab al-Nisa' (Door of the Women).
