29th Sutra Chapter 2
yamaniyamasanapranayamapratyaharadharanadhy anasamadhayo-a-shtava anggani//2.29//
• yama - abstinence
• niyama - observance
• asana - posture
• pranayama - breath control
• pratyahara - sense withdrawal
• dharana - concentration
• dhyana - meditation
• samadhay - meditation in its higher state
• ashtava - eight
• anggani - limbs, parts.
The eight limbs of yoga are Yam (external discipline), Niyam (internal discipline), Asana (postures), Pranayam (breath control), Pratyahara (withdrawal or mastery of the senses), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (meditation), and Samadhi (superconsciuos state).
