Today we're talking about Pranayama, the fourth limb of the eight-limbed Ashtanga Yoga system. Pranayama translates to breath control, and it truly is a superpower that you can carry with you everywhere to reduce stress, calm your nervous system, and clear your chakra energy system. The research showing the physical benefits of proper breathing is unquestioned and the ancient sages created a variety of techniques for us to use to access all of them, as well as the mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits of breath mastery.
I'll go over three specific types of pranayama: the foundational yogic breath, Dirga Pranayama (three part, or complete breath), and Sama Vritti Pranayama (equal breath), giving you directions and opportunity to practice so you can feel the changes in your body.
