Al-Hujurat (The Chambers) is the 49th chapter (surah) of the Qur'an with 18 verses (āyāt). The chapter contains etiquette and norms to be observed in the Muslim community, including the proper conduct towards the Prophet Muhammad (S), an injunction against acting on news without verification, a call for peace and reconciliation, as well as injunctions against defamation, suspicion, and backbiting. The chapter also declares a universal brotherhood among Muslims. The thirteenth verse, one of the most famous in the Qur'an, is understood by Muslim scholars to establish equality with regards to race and origin; only God can determine one's nobility based on his piety.

Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Bukhari, commonly referred to as Imām al-Bukhāri or Imām Bukhāri, was a 9th-century Muslim muhaddith who is widely regarded as the most important hadith scholar in the history of Sunni Islam. Al-Bukhari's extant works include the hadith collection Sahih al-Bukhari, Al-Tarikh al-Kabir, and Al-Adab al-Mufrad. Born in Bukhara in present-day Uzbekistan, Al-Bukhari began learning hadith at a young age. He traveled across the Abbasid Caliphate and learned under several influential contemporary scholars. Bukhari memorized thousands of hadith narrations, compiling the Sahih al-Bukhari in 846. He spent the rest of his life teaching the hadith he had collected.

"Sometimes ostentation penetrates you in such a way that no one notices it". One of the deadliest of blameworthy traits is Riya (ostentation; the desire to attract attention and impress). How does this trait operate and how can one safeguard themselves from all its subtle ploys, particularly in relation to good deeds? "You are more in need in His forbearance when you obey Him than you are when you disobey Him". [Hikam 132] The Shaykh explains how the seeker can protect their good deeds and in what situation does a sinner rank superior to the good deed doer.

"When you seek a recompense for a deed, the existence of sincerity in it is demanded of you in return. As for the insincere, the feeling of security from chastisement suffices him". "Do not seek recompense for a deed whose doer was not you. It suffices you as a recompense for the deed that He accepts it." Is it proper to ask Allah for reward after having done a good deed? The Shaykh discusses this in light of the above aphorisms.

Tough Questions from Teenagers Mufti Abdur-Rahman starts the talk off with some simple yet practical advice to both parents and children and then answer a series of difficult questions from teenagers that attended on the day.

"Whoever worships Him for something he hopes for from Him, or in order to stave off the arrival of chastisement, he has not concerned himself with the real nature of His Attributes". An intricate discussion in which the Shaykh explains three categories of people in how they worship Allah Most High, which group is the most superior and why. Furthermore, the Shaykh mentions what mindset one needs to develop to cultivate a pure, sincere, non selfish motive in worshiping Allah Most High.

"It suffices as a reward for the doers of good that He has inspired obedience to Him in their hearts and bought upon them the existence of His reciprocal intimacy" The following talk enhances ones understanding of the purpose of doing good deeds aside from the usual objectives sought; to gain reward and avoid punishment.

" Far be it for our Lord to repay us with credit the Servant who deals with Him in cash". How does Allah repay us in this world? Without doubt the doers of good have been promised reward and eternal bliss in the life to come. However, the benevolence and graciousness of Allah is not only restricted to the Hereafter. The Shaykh mentions the numerous ways Allah repays His believing righteous servants in this world.

Let not obedience make you joyous because it comes from you, rather, be joyous over it because it comes from God to you. "Say: In the grace of God and in His mercy, in that they should rejoice. It is better than that which they hoard". [Q.10:58] [Hikam 58] How to balance the feeling of joy when one carries out good deeds, all the while expressing gratitude and acknowledging Allah Most High is the enabler. The following talk gives an understanding on how to balance both these aspects.

A reminder for the seeker to keep sincere and self-examine their motives for spiritual success. "Travel not from creature to creature, otherwise you will be like a donkey at the mill: roundabout he turns, his goal the same as his departure. Rather, go from creatures to the Creator: "And that the final end is unto thy Lord." [Quran 53:42] "Therefore, he whose flight is for God and His Messenger, then his flight is for God and His Messenger; and he whose flight is for worldly gain or marriage with a woman, then his flight is for that which he flees to." So understand his words (upon him peace!) and ponder this matter, if you can. And peace on you!." (Hikam 42)

Meet the Authors Shaykh Abu ’l-Hasan ‘Ali al-Hasani Nadwi (1332/1914–1420/1999), affectionately known as ‘Ali Miyan, was a leading intellectual and religious scholar of contemporary India. He wrote numerous books on history, biography, and contemporary affairs concerning both the Muslim community in India and Muslims abroad. He served as rector of the Nadwat al-‘Ulama’ seminary in Lucknow for a number of years, where he also taught Qur’anic exegesis, hadith, and Arabic literature, along with history and logic. He was a founding member of Rabitat al-Adab al-Islami al-‘Alamiyya (Universal League of Islamic Literature) in 1984 and was elected chairman of the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board in 1985. A prolific writer, he penned a literary legacy of a few hundred works in both Arabic and Urdu. His works have been integrated into the curriculum in a number of universities in the Arab world. His most notable Arabic work, Ma-dha Khasir al-‘Alam bi ’nhitat al-Muslimin (What Did the World Lose by the Decline of the Muslims?), was widely acclaimed and carved a place for him in elite literary circles of the Arab world. Many of his works have since been translated into Arabic, English, Turkish, Bahasa Indonesia, Persian, and Tamil, among other languages. Karwan-i Zindagi, his eight-volume autobiography; Purane Chiragh (Ancient Lamps), comprising life sketches of contemporary personalities; his biographies of Sayyid Ahmad Shahid and Caliph ‘Ali (may Allah ennoble his countenance); and his Tarikh-i Da‘wat wa ‘Azimat (Saviours of Islamic Spirit) are seen as permanent contributions to Urdu literature. This monumental scholar passed away at the age of eighty-six on Friday 31 December 1999 (22 Ramadan 1420).

The ʿUmrah is an Islamic pilgrimage to Makka (the holiest city for Muslims, located in Saudi Arabia) that can be undertaken at any time of the year, in contrast to the Ḥajj, which has specific dates according to the Islamic lunar calendar.

Shaykh Abdur-Rahman (may Allah preserve him) begins by mentioning the origins of the Naqshbandi Tariqa, explains briefly how the order developed over time and highlights some of its distinguishing features. Shaykh then goes through the Khatm Khwajgan (the practise of uttering specific Qur'anic verses, divine names, and remembrances recited at the start of each majlis by the shaykhs of the order) and explains the importance of how the murid should internalise the meaning of each du’a' whilst reciting them. One can only truly benefit from what they ask Allah if they understand what they are asking. Shaykh then reveals how the aspirant should hold fast to supplications as it is only through abundant prayers that a servant expresses their need to Allah, rendering Him to be the only fulfiller of their needs. Finally, the Shaykh goes through the six dhikr acts for the aspirant on this path and their established proofs from the Qur’an and Sunnah.

A more positive well-being definition might be the maintenance of physical, mental, and emotional stability and balance — not just the absence of illness.

"He only made affliction come at the hands of people so that you do not repose in them. He wanted to drive you of everything so that nothing would divert you from Him." Hikam 235 Page 207 The Shaykh discusses two main ways of getting through difficulties: The first, to accept that they will be part and parcel of life and inevitable. Secondly, as mentioned in the above aphorism, to know that there is a wisdom and purpose behind the affliction.

It is a blameworthy desire. • Dedicating most of our time and effort to our work and / or comparing ourselves to others is a result of avid greed. • It is a state of our heart and mind and can be never-ending. • Opposite is contentment: Qan’at. • How to achieve qana’t; o Moderation in spending (which is half of our livelihood - Hadith). o Sustenance is decreed ACCORDING TO OUR EFFORTS AND HARD WORK. o Realise the honour in being self-sufficient as opposed to degrading and humiliating ourselves to achieve our desires. o Reflect on the lives of the Prophets. o Give shukr to Allah. o Be happy with what we have. o Be realistic and identify those things that are beneficial, and those things that are harmful. • Greed is a form of psychological slavery; it overcomes us, and we become a slave to it. • Contentment brings dignity and true freedom. • Satisfaction is when we do things purely for Allah. • There will always be someone (including a family) who condemn people who are content because those who are content do not conform with society’s expectations. • Comparing ourselves to others will bring chronic stress and depression. • Powerful reminder - Surah Taha [20:131]. However, when it comes to religious practice and piety, we should look at people who are above us to inspire and motivate us to do better for the Hereafter.

Infertility is a medical condition that can touch every aspect of your life -- from the way you feel about yourself, to your relationship with your partner, to your overall perspective on living. It can also be particularly stressful in that it creates a great deal of uncertainty and emotional upheaval in a couple's day-to-day world. Starting from the intention of the act to actually carrying out the deed and the final stage of whether it is accepted in the court of Allah Most High or not. Factors which render deeds to remain unaccepted are mentioned. The second part, the Shaykh explains how in fact a sin/act of disobedience can become the means of a person returning and gaining closeness to Allah Most High. Cited is the following prophetic narration: "Many a times there is sin (carried out) which (in fact) is the means of the person entering Jannah" to which the companions in astonishment reply as to how...

The sacrifice of an animal has always been a recognised form of worship in many religions, but in the ‘Shariah’ (Islamic sacred law) of The Last and Final Messenger of Allah Ta’ala (Peace be upon him) the sacrifice of an animal has been recognised as a form of ibadah (worship) during the three days of the month Zul Hijjah, namely the 10th, 11th, and 12th.

"When He gives, He shows you His kindness; when He deprives, He shows you His power. And in all that, He is making Himself known to you and coming to you with His gentleness". [Hikam 93] The lecture expounds the fact of Allah Most High being all inclusive in His divine names and attributes. He is both the Benevolent, The Kind and The Majestic as well as being the The Mighty, The Dominant and The With-holder. It is for the seeker to contemplate this reality so that appreciation and gratitude towards their Lord remains unchanged in times of both difficulty and goodness.

"Deprivation hurts you only because of the lack of your understanding of God in it." [Hikam 94]

"A gift from man is deprivation, and deprivation from God is beneficence" [HIKAM 88, Page 195] This delicate discussion explains 3 reasons why in fact the seeker of the path would consider a bestowed gift from the creation a means of spiritual deprivation and helps one to apprehend what the true essence of gifting is.

Traders will be gathered on the Day of Judgement as transgressors, except those who feared Allāh, were righteous [in their oaths], and spoke the truth (Tirmidhī, Ibn Māja, Dāramī).
