On December 11, 2017, a 21-year-old mother, Libby Caswell, was found dead in the bathroom of a motel in Independence, Missouri. Her boyfriend’s belt was fastened around her neck, and he had fled the scene after telling a 911 dispatcher that Libby had committed suicide. The police ruled her death a suicide, however, after obtaining autopsy reports, police reports and the opinion of experts, Libby’s mother believes otherwise.

On October 27, 2016 in Henry County Georgia, four people were killed during a bonfire party. Two men were indicted and charged with murder. One confessed to the murders and told officers that he was solely responsible. Authorities charged the other man with murder anyway and placed him in jail. In 2021, this man was re-indicted on 30 charges, and the state is seeking the death penalty. He still awaits trial 7 years after the killings.

January 2013, Yuba City, CA. In a small town north of Sacramento, CA, 94-year old Leola Shreves was found dead in her home by her son-in-law. Windows were broken and Leola had been badly beaten. On January 31st, 2011 Johnny Clarke and Lisa Straub were found dead inside Lisa’s home. Their hands were bound, and plastic bags were taped over their heads. May 19th, 1991, Castlerock, Northern Ireland. On May 19th, 1991 Lesley Howell and Trevor Buchanan were found dead in a vehicle inside her father’s garage. Their cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning, and investigators believed they died in a suicide pact after they found out about an affair between their respective spouses. March 29th, 2019. Columbia, South Carolina. Samantha Josephson was spending the evening with her friends celebrating her recent acceptance into Drexel University School of Law and her upcoming graduation from University of South Carolina. Her long-term boyfriend was going to be moving to Columbia to live with her during law school. She had been texting her boyfriend all through the night and told him that she was getting an Uber ride home around 2 a.m. on March 29th. Samantha never made it to her apartment; her driver actually went the opposite direction. This driver wasn’t her Uber driver, it was a man that had been driving around the area hunting for a victim. She was found later that morning about an hour and a half away from Columbia with around 120 stab wounds. Investigators moved quickly to find Samantha's killer before he could harm anyone else.

March 26th, 1990. Festus, Missouri. Former Festus Police Chief William Pagano killed his friend and coworker Mark Timothy Todd. January 26th, 1992. Leeds, England. Patricia Hall was reported missing on January 27th, 1992. Her husband Keith told the police that she left their home after an argument the day before. Patricia was never seen again. Keith Hall was arrested several months later after confessing to an undercover officer that he killed his wife. That confession, though, would create a major issue for prosecutors.

September 1st, 2016. Carlsbad, California. In September of 2016, Greg Mulvihill was shot in a secluded area of Carlsbad, California. He was lured to the area after receiving a phone call from a person claiming to be a PI, hired by his ex wife to gather information about him in a custody battle over their son. When Greg and a friend went to collect this evidence they were shot at by a man hiding in the bushes.

December 25th, 2006. Phoenix, Arizona. Police officers entered the home of Ryan Waller, an 18-year-old living in Phoenix. They found Ryan injured but alive, and his girlfriend Heather dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Ryan was the initial suspect, but he acted very strangely during his interview, claiming he’d been shot in the face by two men who broke into the house. Ryan was taken to the police station and questioned before the police realized he really had been shot in the face and survived his injuries for two days.

December 30, 1999. Welch, Oklahoma. On December 30th, 1999 authorities responded to a fire at the Freeman family home outside of Welch, Oklahoma. The bodies of a married couple named Kathy and Danny Freeman were found in the wreckage, but they didn’t die in the fire. They died from gunshot wounds to the head. Their daughter Ashley Freeman, and Ashley’s best friend Lauria Bible, who was sleeping over that night, were gone.

April 21st, 2020 Denison, Texas. 38-year-old Katie Palmer and her husband John were hit by a truck while out on a morning walk. John survived, but Katie died the next day. November 16, 1989. Billingham, Stockton-on-Tees, England. Julie Hogg, a single mother from Billingham in Northern England, disappeared in the early hours of November 16th, 1989. She had been dropped off at her home by a coworker from her pizza delivery job. When her mother, Ann, couldn’t reach her by phone around 7:30am, she knew something was wrong. She would find Julie around 80 days later, deceased where police had said they had already searched for her. Julie’s killer would escape a conviction twice, then go on to brag about how he could never be convicted of Julie’s murder because of a double jeopardy law. December 6, 2006. Golan Heights. On December 6, 2006, the body of 13-year-old student, Tair Rada, was found bloodied and slumped in a bathroom stall at Nofey Golan High School in Golan Heights. Roman Zadorov, a 29-year-old immigrant from post-Soviet Moldova and custodian at the school confessed to the murder and was later convicted for Tair Rada’s murder and perverting the course of justice. Zadorov’s conviction came into question when a lack of physical evidence connecting him to the crime, doubts over his confession, and the reenactment of the murder were deemed to be contradictory.

The Bain Family Murders. June 20, 1994. Dunedin, New Zealand. A 22 year-old man sets out on his newspaper route early in the morning. Sometime after returning home before 7am, he discovers some members of his immediate family have been murdered. The victims were identified as 59 year-old Robin (father), 50 year-old Margaret (mother), 19 year-old Arawa (daughter), 18 year-old Laniet (daughter), & 14 year-old Stephen (son). Initially, the scene suggested a murder/suicide. A rifle was found on the floor next to Robin's body. As the investigation continued, though, all signs began to point toward the only surviving member of this home. The 22 year-old son, David Cullen Bain, who also happened to have an alibi.

February 5, 2002. Hudson, WI. Dan O’Connell, a funeral home owner, and his intern, James Ellison, are found shot to death in Dan’s office at O’Connell Family Funeral Home. Though the police had leads, none of them led to a viable suspect. Almost three years later, while investigating a separate case, detectives interviewed Father Ryan Erickson, a Catholic priest who was serving in Hudson in 2002. After Richard changed schools, Bonnie began to grow distant and finally let Richard know that she wanted to remain friends but that she intended to date other people. June 07, 2020. Fryent Country Park, Kingsbury, north-west London, England. On June 7th, 2020, Sisters Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman were celebrating Henry's 46th birthday on a dark hill in a London park when they were fatally attacked and killed by an assailant brandishing a blade. 36 hours later their bodies were discovered laid out in the undergrowth, posed together. They had been stabbed more than thirty times, the perpetrator then dragged their bodies into a thicket to conceal them before fleeing the scene. Injured, the killer left behind a large amount of his own blood that would eventually lead police directly to him and his bizarre motivation behind the brutal slayings.

Alonzo didn’t come home the next day and hadn’t contacted anyone about where he was. Nearly a month later, his body was found in a creek at the site of the party.
