#30: Ever wondered what it's like to be in the midst of clashing marketing, sales and product departments? Jennifer Montague, with her wealth of experience across these fields, joins me to discuss the unsightly silos that can form and how it's like a game of hot potato nobody wants to play. We dive deep into the heart of these divisions and brainstorm strategies to dismantle these barriers to refocus on what really matters – the customer. From developing an acquisition workforce that truly represents each department to understanding the nuances of customer journeys, our conversation is a treasure trove of insights.
As our conversation progresses, we shift gears to discuss fostering growth and collaboration. We discover together the power of an intriguing term - NetNew MRR, and how it can be harnessed to attract customers by creating a tiering system. Jennifer shares her perspective on how product teams can gauge the impact of their work on the company's overall success. We also touch upon the art of communicating missed opportunities to those in power.
As we near the end, we address the elephant in the room – the fear of trying and failing. We share our experiences and lessons from mistakes we've made, emphasizing on the importance of sharing these stories with others. We talk about the global phenomenon - Fuckup Nights, as a platform to admit mistakes and grow from them. As we wrap up our enlightening conversation, Jennifer and I exchange our favorite books and meals, and I throw in a recommendation for a great spot to get Korean food in Copenhagen. Our conversation is a journey of exploration and growth, and we invite you to join us in breaking down the silos that exist in any organization.

In this episode, I have a chat with Roman Pichler who has been advising, training and coaching Product Managers and leaders for over 15 years.
We talk about
This episode is dedicated to better understanding how you can kick-start research practices in your company, starting from scratch.
For this highly in-demand topic, we're super excited to be hosting Nikki Anderson-Stanier.
Why you should join the conversation
🚀 we're going to talk about all the things that have blocked you from launching your first research project at work
🏠 how to create the right environment to launch your first discovery iteration
💬 how to generate conversations and opportunities
🧙🏼 ...and of course....we'll talk about imposter syndrome 😇
A few words fron Nikki herself:
"Hi! I'm Nikki Anderson-Stanier, a qualitative user researcher who meandered into the field through a mixture of a background in psychology and attending a party in which someone started talking about this elusive thing called user experience. After finding out I was abysmal at design, I discovered the niche of user research and fell in love. Eight years later, here I am, running my own company where I coach others in the field and consult for companies. Outside of user research, you can find me reading, writing, and being out and about with my horse or dog - we just moved to Jersey (the old Jersey in the Channel Islands), so I get outside every chance I can!"
In the product world, Gib is mostly known for spending five years (2005-2010) transforming Netflix from a startup to an industry dominator as the VP of Product Management.
He is also a business speaker, product advisor, Stanford lecturer, and Board Observer and Executive-in-Residence for NerdWallet.
I'm thrilled to be hosting Behzod Sirjani, one of the earlier Researchers at Facebook back in 2013, who went on to become Head of Research & Analytics Operations at Slack.
We'll discuss a few topics including
🎖 The role of researchers in an organisation
💪🏽 The growing need for more people to conduct research
🧰 Enabling others in conducting research with the right tools
🤝 Collaborating with Product and other business areas
I'm joined by none other than Roxane Lacotte, my wonderful co-host for the session.
We're super excited to be speaking with Nesrine Changuel from the team at Google.
Nesrine is a Senior Product Manager at Google and formerly at Spotify, Microsoft and Nokia. She has managed highly visible consumer products for the past eight years, focusing on strategic initiatives that distil deeply ingrained aspects of media experience into simple, fun, and useful features. She is currently working on improving media quality for Google video conference product and previously managed audio and video features for enhancing music listening experience at Spotify.
We're super excited to be hosting Eduardo who was the very first UX Researcher at Miro and has seen the company evolve over the past year.
Eduardo was hired to establish the mindset and approach to research, research processes, incorporate research tools and create the foundations of user understanding.
In this session, we'll learn more about how he's seen the practice of research evolve over the past year and some of the challenges and aspirations of the product team around customer knowledge.
