According to the Bureau of Justice, the percentage of women murdered by an intimate partner is 5 times higher than it is for men. Of the estimated 4,970 female homicide victims in 2021, 34% were killed by an intimate partner.

In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss two separate cases where women have allegedly been murdered by their husbands.

Texas realtor and mother-of-four, Suzanne Simpson was last seen arguing with her husband Brad on the night of October 6, 2024. A neighbor reported hearing screams following the fight. Hours later, Brad purchased two bags of cement, a construction bucket with a lid, 32 trash bags and bleach. Police believe he killed Suzanne and dismembered and disposed of her body. Brad has been arrested and charged with murder, unlawful restraint, assault, tampering with evidence and possession of a prohibited weapon. Suzanne remains missing.
On October 7, 2024, Lee Gilley called 911 and said his pregnant wife Christa intentionally overdosed in an attempt to kill herself. Christa was taken to the hospital where she passed away. Doctors discovered that Christa’s injuries were not consistent with Lee’s story. An investigation determined that Christa had been strangled to death. Lee was arrested and charged with capital murder. In the weeks leading up to her death, Lee was engaging with online content about traditional gender roles and the belief that women should stay at home instead of having their own careers.

In 2009, Diane Schuler was returning to her New York home after a camping trip with five young children in the minivan she was driving - her two children and three nieces.

She took the kids to McDonalds for breakfast and witnesses said the family seemed fine and nothing was amiss. Diane made another stop at a gas station looking for a specific over-the-counter pain medication, but the store didn't carry it.

After this, Diane pulled over multiple times and was seen hunched over appearing sick outside of the vehicle. One of her nieces called their father and said, ‘There’s something wrong with Aunt Diane.’

Family members told Diane to stay where she was, but Diane continued the drive regardless. She drove the wrong way onto the busy Taconic State Parkway and struck another vehicle head-on at a high rate of speed.

The crash became known as the worst fatal motor vehicle accident in Westchester County. 8 people were killed, including Diane, her daughter and all of her nieces.

An empty bottle of vodka was found in the wreckage of the vehicle and Diane’s BAC was reported to be 0.19%. She also had high levels of THC in her system and was suspected to have smoked marijuana as recently as 15 minutes prior to the collision.

Diane’s husband remains adamant that driving under the influence is not what caused the accident and believes Diane suffered a medical emergency.

Murder by poison is a rare method used by criminals. It is used in just under one-half of one percent of cases.

In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss three very different cases where people were intentionally poisoned, in an attempt to kill.

Indiana man Alfred Ruf has just been jailed for drugging his wife Lisa multiple times. When Lisa was unconscious, Alfred would sleep with her daughter. Alfred told police that the end goal had been for Lisa to die.

Texas attorney Mason Herring and his wife Catherine were having marital issues and decided to separate. Soon after, Catherine found out she was pregnant with their third child, so the couple decided to try to make things work. Mason decided to put an abortion drug into Catherine’s beverages, on repeated occasions. Catherine installed cameras in their home when she became suspicious after falling ill. Mason was eventually sentenced to a measly 180 days in jail after pleading guilty to charges of injury to a child and assault of a pregnant person. The couple’s daughter was born 10 weeks premature and now attends therapy 8 times per week and she has developmental delays.

Lana Clayton was millionaire Steven Clayton’s 7th wife. In 2018, Lana apparently found Steven laying at the bottom of a staircase. She ran outside and flagged down a motorist to ask for help. Lana initially refused an autopsy for Steven and also told his family that he had no will, which not surprisingly, made them suspicious. An autopsy was eventually carried out and it was discovered that Lana had poisoned Steven by putting eye drops into his coffee. She is also said to have thrown his phone into a lake so that he could not call for help following the poisoning. Lana pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and tampering with a food or a drug causing death. She was sentenced to 25 years in prison without parole.

The United States has the highest rate of child murder among developed nations. The most common perpetrator of child homicide is a parent.

In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss two cases where children were murdered by a person who should have cared for them the most – their father.

- In June 2023, Chad Doerman asked his wife and children to lay down with him for a nap. As soon as they all climbed into bed, Chad got up and went to the gun safe. He went on a heinous rampage, shooting his three sons dead. Chad’s wife and step-daughter would survive the ordeal – it seems the boys were his main targets. Chad hast just been sentenced to life in prison.

- Corey Micciolo was born in 2014. He lived for his early years with his mother Breanna. His father Christopher Gregor would eventually be given residential custody due to Breanna’s addiction issues. Breanna noticed bruises on Corey and his teachers have said that his demeanor changed over time. CCTV of Corey and Christopher was found – Christopher was forcing Corey to run at high speeds on a treadmill and he stumbled and fell multiple times. Christopher also appeared to bite Corey at one point. After the treadmill incident, Corey would pass away in hospital. In August 2024, Christopher was sentenced to a total of 25 years in state prison for his role in Corey’s death.

On average, 37 children under the age of 15 die each year from heatstroke after being left in a vehicle.

In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss two cases where children died after being left unattended in the heat.

Justin ‘Ross’ Harris and his wife Leanna had been having marriage troubles for years. They were trying to stick it out, despite Ross’ having numerous affairs. The couple had one child together, Cooper.

In June 2014, Ross texted one of the women he had been seeing and said "I need an escape. I love my son and all but we both need an escape.”

Later that day, Ross took Cooper to breakfast and was meant to drop him off to daycare. After driving for a mile, Ross somehow forgot that Cooper was in his car seat. Ross parked the car in direct sunlight, got out of the vehicle and went into work.

Seven hours later, after internal temperatures in the car reached around 125f, Ross left work and drove off. Minutes later, he realized what he had done. Cooper was dead in his car seat.

Ross was charged with malice murder, two counts of felony murder, cruelty to children in the first and second degree, criminal attempt to commit a felony and dissemination of harmful materials to minors. Many of these charges stemmed from Ross’ inappropriate communications with underage females that he engaged in sexting with.

Ross was convicted in 2016. He was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole plus 32 years.

However, in 2024, Ross was released from prison. A court ruled that there should have been separate trials for the murder charges and the sex-crime charges and his convictions were overturned.

In the second case, we discuss the death of 4-month-old Tanna Rae Wroblewski. Tanna Rae was allegedly left alone on a boat in 121f heat on the July 4th weekend this year. Her parents were said to be swimming and cooling off. When they returned to check Tanna Rae some time later, she was bleeding from the ears. The baby was transported to hospital where she passed from heat-related conditions. There is an investigation into the baby’s death ongoing.

In this episode, we discuss three very different cases of disgraced influencers.

At her peak, Kat Torres had over 1m followers on Instagram. She was linked to celebrities including Leonardo DiCaprio. Following ‘life-coaching sessions’, Kat forced multiple women to engage in sex work and they were forced to give her thousands of dollars of their money. Over 20 women have come forward and said that Kat preyed on them. She has recently been sentenced to prison for human trafficking offences.
Russian influencer Maxim Lyutyi wanted his newborn son to be ‘Superman’. He refused medical treatment for the child and believed that the baby could survive on a ‘diet’ of berries and sunlight. The baby only lived for one month and weighed 3.5lbs when he died. Maxim is now imprisoned for his son’s death.
Utah Mormon ‘MomTok’ influencer Taylor Frankie Paul has 4.4m followers on Tiktok and 360k on instagram. After swinging and infidelity allegations, her marriage broke down in 2022. By 2023, she was in a new relationship. In February that year, police were called to her home by a neighbor. While intoxicated, Taylor had allegedly assaulted her new partner. During her rage, she threw a stool which struck her young daughter in the head. Taylor has spoken about the events and said ‘As much as I wish that night had went differently, I felt like hitting rock bottom actually helped me in some ways. Made me seek help that I wasn’t getting.”

In 1992, 12-year-old Shanda Sharer was finding her way growing up in Indiana. She dealt with bullying at school that would eventually escalate into one the most heinous murders in the state.

In January 1992, four girls between the ages of 15-17 decided "to teach Shanda a lesson." One of the girls, Melinda Loveless, was jealous of Shanda's new relationship.

The girls went to Shanda’s home late at night and convinced her to leave with them. Over the next several hours, they would torture, sexually assault and beat Shanda to the brink of death before setting her on fire with gasoline. They left her to die on the side of a road.

After the murder, the girls went to McDonald's and giggled because their breakfast sausages reminded them of Shanda's burnt body.

Sugar dating is a pseudo-romantic relationship between an older wealthy person and a younger, usually significantly poorer, person. Many sugar babies are college/university students who are looking for a way to pay off their debt.

Mackenzie Lueck met Ayoola Ajayi online in 2019. The two planned to meet up after her flight home for her grandmother's funeral. But, Ayoola had ulterior motives and planned to murder her. When Mackenzie got to his home, he tied her up and strangled her. Ayoola then attempted to burn Mackenzie’s remains and belongings in his backyard, in full view of his AirBnB renter and neighbors.

Liliya (Lily) Guyvoronsky (20) had been dating Bothell City Council member James McNeal (58) for months. James recently left his wife and three children to be with her. Lily detailed their relationship in her diary and in messages to her friends. 'He is really controlling and I can tell he thinks I'm stupid because I am young,' she wrote. In April 2024, the two got into an argument and James allegedly killed Lily. James called his attorney to the scene who called 911 to report the murder. James is currently in jail awaiting trial, scheduled for July.

The Death of Mica Miller - Who is to Blame?

On April 27, 2024, Mica Miller called 911 and asked the operator if her cell phone location could be traced. When the operator confirmed that her location was known, Mica hung up and allegedly shot herself in the head.

So, Mica’s death was clearly a suicide, right? Except, there was a lot going on leading up to her death. The FBI have now been called into investigate the circumstances surrounding Mica’s death.

Mica was married to high-profile Pastor John-Paul Miller. The two were going through a tumultuous breakup. Mica found four tracking devices on her vehicle. Her family have filed an affidavit in regards to her estate, and they claim Mica said ‘If I end up with a bullet in my head, it was not by me, it was JP.’ John-Paul also attempted to enter Mica’s home after her death and he was stopped by the building manager.

Why are the FBI involved? John-Paul has temporarily been stood down from his pastoral duties at the Solid Rock Church.

A mother’s role is to protect her children and to keep them safe in all situations. Sometimes though, things go very wrong within the family unit.

Australian mother Jasmine Thomas had been struggling following the pandemic. She suffered from depression after the births of her two children and the pandemic made her increasingly paranoid. One night in 2022, she told her husband that she was taking their two daughters to McDonald’s. After getting McDonald's, Jasmine drove her children to a remote area off the highway and set the vehicle on fire with her and the children inside. All three of them died within minutes.

Texas woman Savannah Kriger was going through a messy divorce with her husband Brian. A custody hearing regarding their son Kaiden was scheduled in March 2024. On the day of the hearing, Savannah went to Brian’s home and destroyed every piece of clothing that he owned. She then shot bullets through her wedding portraits and laid her wedding dresses out on the bed. She picked up Kaiden from daycare and made him call Brian to say goodbye. She then shot her son before taking her own life.

The delay of Richard Allen’s trial. Richard is accused of killing Delphi teens Liberty German and Abigail Williams. His trial was due to start in mid May and has now been pushed out to later in 2024.
Suzanne Morphew’s autopsy results have come back. Suzanne went missing on Mother’s Day in 2020 and her remains were found last year. Suzanne’s cause of death has been determined as “Homicide by undetermined means in the setting of butorphanol, azaperone, and medetomidine (BAM) intoxication.” BAM is a potent tranquilizer that only licensed veterinarians can prescribe. Interestingly, Suzanne’s husband Barry had access to BAM for hunting purposes.

In February 2021, after a movie night with his parents, Brian left their home in search of a victim. He came across a homeless man named Warren Barnes sleeping under a bridge. Brian stabbed Warren multiple times with a kitchen knife before decapitating and dismembering him. Brian put Warren’s head and hands in a bag and took them home with him - stashing them in his closet .

Brian’s mother Terri came across the bag covered in maggots days later. She called police immediately and they arrived to question Brian. There is infamous shocking footage of Brian confidently admitting to the murder.

“Police, they don’t seem to care as much about high-risk individuals: homeless people, prostitutes, etc,” he said. “So I was deliberately looking for someone who lived that type of life.”

“I’m like, that’s a homeless person, so I grabbed my knife, I put on three layers of gloves because plastic gloves can betray their users because they’re so thin…I took the knife, I pulled back the canvas and I stabbed his neck,” he later said.

Birdie Pruessner had four beautiful children that seemed to be the center of her universe. She made many social media posts about how much she loved her children. In February 2024, Birdie posted many times in one day. One post read:

‘All my kids, peacefully sleeping in my bed. Curled up together. Knowing they are loved so fiercely that I’d do absolutely anything for them. This is my favorite moment.’

Soon after that post, a fire broke out in Birdie’s home. She passed away, along with her children and family pets. Many people started pointing fingers at Birdie’s ex-partners.

Police quickly determined that Birdie was the one to start the fire. It is thought she set a mattress in the home alight. She left a suicide note in her minivan. Birdie’s family have said that she got to an awful place, one that resulted in tragic consequences.

Anne Muhoro lived on the opposite side of the world to Birdie, in Canberra, Australia. Anne and her ex-partner George had a tumultuous relationship and had been fighting in court for years over the custody of their two children.

Early one February morning, Anne turned off the electricity to their home and removed the batteries from smoke detectors. She then set a series of fires in the home, killing herself and her two young children. Anne died from the effects of the fire, but investigators were not able to determine how the children died – did Anne murder them prior to the blaze?

Texas nurse Lacey Lyn Overby allegedly decided to help a homeless man on February 1, 2024 by buying him some food. She alleges that as she opened her car window to hand the food to him, he reached in, opened the door to her vehicle and abducted her. She managed to send a text to her daughter with their code words ‘purple pancakes’, so her family knew she was in trouble. She also managed to text a description of her abductor.

This man allegedly forced Lacey to drive hours to the Mexican border. Just before they got there, he told her to drive over the border for 20 miles. He then got out of the car. Lacey was found by authorities, waiting alone in her car, in line to cross the border.

Since Lacey’s safe recovery, there have been no updates from police, leading many to speculate if this was a true abduction or not.

In 2015, Denise Huskins was in bed asleep with her boyfriend Aaron Quinn in California. They were awoken with lasers being pointed on their wall. The couple were bound and their eyes were covered with blacked out goggles. Aaron was warned that if he called police, there would be consequences. Denise was then abducted.

Two days later, Denise’s abductor released her outside of her family home. Police did not believe Aaron and Denise’s stories and accused them publicly of lying and wasting police resources. The couple eventually received a multi-million dollar settlement when their story was proven to be true and a man was arrested.

Missouri woman Grace Holland fell in love with Fire Captain Robert Daus and they began to make a life together. They were engaged and had blended their families together. Grace and Robert had just purchased a new home together in 2020 and were making preparations to move in.

Things were not what they appeared on the surface. Robert was allegedly verbally and emotionally abusive to Grace. Court documents show angry and abusive texts that Robert sent to her and he allegedly offered her money to abort their baby.

Nobody knows what happened in the hours leading up to July 22, 2020. That morning, Grace died from a gunshot wound to the head. It was eventually determined by authorities to have been self-inflicted, although her family have always thought otherwise.

Robert moved on after Grace’s death and he became involved with a successful doctor, Sarah Sweeney. In January 2024, Sarah was found dead in the home that Robert and Grace had previously purchased. Her cause of death is currently pending.

Californian woman Nancy Ng loved traveling to Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. She attended a yoga retreat there in 2022 and planned another one for October 2023. Her sister Nicky said “She was saying it’s so beautiful. Last year, she woke up every morning just to spend some time there by herself without the group and this year was going to be more exciting because they had planned activities on the lake.”

When Nancy arrived in Guatemala, she sent a text to her family before putting her phone into airplane mode. “I’ll be safe, don’t worry about me,”

Nancy and the other retreat attendees went kayaking on Lake Atitlan on October 19. Nancy was seen smiling and waving in footage from that morning. What happened next is unclear, as there was only one other person kayaking with Nancy. That person is an attorney from California, named Christina Blazek. Christina said that Nancy wanted to swim in the lake and she jumped out of her kayak, despite warnings about the rough conditions from Christina. Nancy apparently disappeared under the water and did not resurface.

Christina made it to shore and a search started for Nancy. When Guatemalan authorities went to interview the retreat attendees the day after Nancy vanished, they were all said to have left the country.

About 2.5% of all homicide arrests in the United States are for parents who have killed their children.

In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss ‘Moms Who Murder’ cases that have happened in the past few months.

Earlier in 2023, Tiffanie Lucas wrote on social media that her sons were “always together” and “never apart,” adding that together they were three souls and one heart. She added that she wouldn’t know “how to smile, love, or survive if it wasn’t for them.” In November 2023, Tiffanie alleged shot her sons in their head while they lay in their beds.
Brandy McCaslin had been struggling with her mental health and had attempted to take her life earlier this year. When her three children were taken to her home for a supervised visit, she ended up killing them before taking her own life.
Nancy Johnson and her husband Derek had been having marital issues this year. The family had moved interstate due to the cost of living. By September 2023, the couple had separated and would take turns living in the family home with their two young children. Derek broke into the home after he noticed there had been no movement from inside for a period of time. He discovered the lifeless bodies of his two young children and of his estranged wife. According to police, Nancy had orchestrated the scene to look like a triple homicide in the hope that police would think Derek was involved. Law enforcement have ruled this case a murder/suicide.

In September 2023, Chelsea Grimm set off from San Diego with her bearded dragon Roxy. They were going on a cross-country road trip to attend a friend’s wedding in Connecticut. After a few days on the road, Chelsea had not made it very far and it was clear that she was not going to be able to get to the wedding in time. One of the final times that Chelsea was seen was on police bodycam on September 28. She can be seen in the footage crying to the officer and he tells her a safe place to sleep for the night. Days later, Chelsea would vanish.

Margaret Kay-Alana Turner lived in NYC during the pandemic and it greatly affected her. Her mental health had been declining. Kay-Alana changed her medication earlier this year and it is thought that she had a bad reaction to the alteration. In March 2023, Kay-Alana was seen disoriented, tired and confused by residents of Tomball, Texas. She had been attempting to rest in her car in a residential driveway. The police were called and Kay-Alana became frightened and tried to flee. Law enforcement attempted to enter her vehicle by destroying a window with a 2x4. Kay-Alana exited the vehicle and ran away, her shoes filled with glass from the window. She has not been seen since.

Golf cart accidents send around 10,000 people to the ER in the US every single year.

In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss two cases where women were killed in golf cart accidents right after they were married.

Samantha Miller and Aric Hutchinson held their wedding in April 2023, after months of planning. Sam looked radiant in her beautiful white dress and as she left the reception with her new husband, she told him that she never wanted the night to end. Minutes later, Jamie Lee Komoroski (25) crashed into the golf cart that was carrying the couple to their accommodation. The crash happened at 65mph in a 25mph zone. Samantha was killed instantly and Aric required many surgeries. Jamie Lee’s blood alcohol level was 0.261.
Marina and Robbie Morgan were married in Sydney, Australia in 2022. They had previously postponed their wedding due to the pandemic. The couple held a lavish ceremony and jetted off to the beautiful Hamilton Island for their honeymoon. Golf carts are the primary mode of transport on the island. Just days into their honeymoon, Robbie noticed that the battery on their cart was low and he attempted to make a u-turn to return to charge the vehicle. The cart flipped on top of Marina, killing her at the scene. Robbie is facing charges in relation to his new wife’s death.

There has been a big update in the case of the Australian Mushroom Deaths, which we covered on a previous episode. Erin Patterson has been arrested and charged with both murder and attempted murder. We run through the latest in this episode.

Jared Shadeed was a successful Immigration Attorney in Washington, D.C. In the Summer of 2023, Jared suddenly quit the job that he had worked so hard for, packed up his vehicle and headed on a cross-country road trip. On July 30, Jared was seen on CCTV checking into an Airbnb in Seattle, Washington. He took his laptop, phone and luggage into the property and he left again. He has not been seen since. Jared’s car was found abandoned days later, with the keys inside, in Los Angeles.
Prisma Reyes had lunch with her on-again, off-again boyfriend Ryan in April 2019 in Mesquite, Texas. The two got into an argument and her boyfriend stormed off, leaving Prisma at the bar alone. She remained there for a few hours, drinking until the bartender cut her off. Prisma left the venue and became involved in a road rage incident where she showed a gun to the other party. She left the scene before police could arrive. Prisma was last seen on CCTV soon after that, in the parking garage of Ryan’s apartment complex. She seems unsteady on her feet and can be seen talking on the phone. Prisma leaves the view of the camera and has not been seen since. Law enforcement have said that Ryan is not a suspect in her case.
In June 2023, Gwen Brunelle told her parents and her boyfriend that she was leaving home in Boise, Idaho to go on a road trip to Fresno, California. Gwen’s hobby and passion was showing rabbits and she told her family that she was going to meet with a judge in that industry. Gwen packed up her 11 rabbits and hit the road. On Friday June 30, a police officer found Gwen’s car abandoned with her rabbits inside – many of them had perished in the heat. Gwen was nowhere to be found. After her disappearance, her family found out that she never had plans to meet anyone in Fresno and CCTV showed some erratic behavior on Gwen’s part. As of October 2023, she remains missing.

As summer draws to a close in the Northern Hemisphere, we are going to discuss two Vacation Nightmare cases in this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast.

Australian woman Elly Warren travelled to Africa in 2016 for the trip of a lifetime. She had been scuba diving with marine biologists and had been swimming with Manta Rays. One night, towards the end of her vacation, she went to a bar in Tofo Beach, Mozambique for a few drinks and to catch up with friends. She indicated to the group that she was going to get a drink and she would be back to join them. When Elly didn’t come back, her friends assumed she had gone back to their hostel.

Elly’s body was found the next morning, outside a public bathroom. Mozambique officials have given varying stories about how Elly died. Her family believes she was murdered and an investigation is ongoing to this day.

Heather Mack and her mother Sheila had a contentious relationship. Police were called to their family home on average once a month. There were allegations of abuse and violence between the pair.

In 2014, Sheila paid for herself and Heather to fly first class to Bali for a vacation. They checked into luxury hotels, but their relaxation didn’t last long. Heather stole her mother’s credit card and bought airplane tickets for her boyfriend Tommy to join them in Bali. When Tommy arrived in Bali, he fought with Sheila and their altercation turned deadly. Sheila was beaten to death and her body was stuffed in a suitcase. Heather and Tommy were arrested in connection with her murder and they were incarcerated in Indonesian prisons. Heather was pregnant at the time of the murder – she gave birth and her baby lived in the squalid jail cell with her for years.

Missing | Morgan Bauer & Yohanes Kidane

In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the separate cases of two missing people – Morgan Bauer and Yohanes Kidane.

Morgan Bauer was 19 in 2016 when she left the small town in South Dakota where she had grown up, for the bright lights of Atlanta, Georgia. Morgan embarked on her adventure with only dollars to her name. The excitement quickly turned to desperation. Morgan was thrown out of the accommodation that she had arranged to stay in and she frantically tried to find employment. Morgan had only been in Georgia for a few weeks before friends and family realized that they hadn’t heard from her. As of August 2023, Morgan remains missing and the two people who were last known to have been with her have been arrested in connection with her murder.

Yohanes Kidane had the world at his feet. He graduated from Cornell University earlier in 2023 and had relocated from New York to the Bay Area in California to take up a promising job with Netflix. Yohanes spoke to his brother on Sunday August 13 and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. When Yohanes’ siblings checked his location the following day, they saw that this phone was the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. When his family called the phone, it was answered by a stranger who had found Yohanes personal belongings including his laptops, ID and wallet. Yohanes is thought to have taken an Uber from his apartment in San Jose to the bridge. He remains missing. Did something sinister happen to Yohanes while in the ride share or did he travel to the Golden Gate Bridge for another reason?

There have been updates in the Bryan Kohberger murder case and killer nurse Lucy Letby has been sentenced for killing multiple infants. We discuss these updates in the episode.

In March 2022, Kouri and Eric Richins were apparently celebrating the purchase of a new multi-million dollar home. Kouri made her husband a Moscow Mule and took it to him in bed, as part of the celebrations. Kouri went to bed and when she woke, she found Eric cold and dead in their bed.

After he died, Kouri wrote a children’s book regarding grief titled ‘Are you with me?’

Police eventually determined that Eric died from a fentanyl overdose.

Following a police investigation, police determined that Kouri allegedly purchased the fentanyl on the black market, days before Eric died. She had also taken out numerous life insurance policies on her husband. Eric had learned of some of the life insurance changes before his death, and he wrote Kouri out of his will. When she found this out, she assaulted a family member of Eric’s.

In May 2023, Kouri was arrested and charged one first degree felony count of aggravated murder, as well as three second degree felony counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

There has been a huge update in the case of missing person Beau Mann. We first covered Beau’s case in February 2022. In April 2023, Beau’s remains were found in the yard of an abandoned building in Santa Monica, just 0.2 miles from where he was dropped off in an Uber.

Madison Brooks (19) loved spending time with her family and friends. Her family have said she loved adventures and travel.

In the early hours of January 15, 2023 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Madison accepted a ride home from a bar with four males. She seemed to be intoxicated according to CCTV and witness reports. The story that these ‘men’ gave was that Madison consented to sex with two of them in the vehicle. After they were done with her, they dropped her off on the side of the road. Madison was killed shortly after this – she was struck by a vehicle.

Investigation showed that Madison’s BAC was .319%. According to University of Notre Dame research, a BAC of between .250 and .399 indicates alcohol poisoning and loss of consciousness. This indicates that there is NO WAY Madison could have consented in that state. Two of the males have now been charged with third-degree rape, and the additional two have been charged with a failure to intervene.

Colombian DJ Valentina Trespalacios (23) met American John Poulos on a dating app in 2022. John abandoned his three children in America to move to Colombia. The couple were seen on January 22, 2023 on CCTV, leaving a nightclub where Valentina had just finished a set at. John was seen soon after putting a suitcase into his rental vehicle.

Hours later, a man came across the suitcase in a dumpster. Valentina’s lifeless body had been shoved in the case, and her head was sticking out. John was arrested soon after, while trying to flee the country. His story was that the cartel were involved in Valentina’s death. He has been charged with aggravated femicide, concealment, alteration and destruction of evidence. John has told the court that he doesn’t feel safe in the Bogota jail and he has demanded additional security.

Deadly Dads | The Patel, Haight, & Crayton Families

On January 2, 2023, Dr Dharmesh Patel was driving his Tesla in Northern California. In the vehicle were his wife Neha, and their two young children. Exactly what happened is largely unknown, but Dharmesh allegedly steered the vehicle off the road and over a 300 foot cliff. Miraculously, the entire family survived the incident. As they were being rescued, Neha told paramedics that Dharmesh had deliberately tried to kill the entire family.

Michael and Tausha Haight had been married for over 20 years. There had been some incidents where police were called to the family home in the past in relation to Michael’s behavior, but no charges were ever filed. In December 2022, Tausha filed for divorce. On January 4, 2023, Michael’s daughter Macie texted a friend to say that her dad was acting weird. When neighbors got to the Haight house, the found Michael and Tausha and their five children dead. Tausha’s mother had also been murdered. Was the divorce the final straw for Michael?

Actor Robert Crayton was experiencing a mental health crisis. He had been involuntarily committed in the past. On January 7, 2023, Robert’s oldest child ran screaming from the family home in North Carolina. Robert had murdered his wife and three of their children before he turned the gun on himself.

Mysterious Missing Men | Updates: Opelika Jane Doe & Jared Bridegan

- Bryce Borca (23) vanished in Eagan, Minnesota on October 30, 2022 after a night out on a party bus with friends. Despite a large scale search, involving hundreds of people, Bryce remains missing.

- In December 2022, Dr Bolek Payan dropped his beloved dogs off to their regular dog sitter. He never picked them up. The search for Bolek lasted for days, before his body was eventually found in a frozen over pond near his home. Was this a case of suicide or misadventure?

- George Musser (20) vanished from a bar in Stillwater, Minnesota on Christmas Eve 2022. The temperature was around -4 that night and George had no jacket. His body was found on Christmas Day, around 1.5 miles from the bar.

- Theodore (Teddy) Egge (35) has been missing from Marinette County, Wisconsin since January 13, 2023. His car ran out of gas and he was last seen walking along a road, apparently heading to the closest town. No sign of Teddy has been found.

What Happened to Ana Walshe?

Massachusetts woman Ana Walshe attempted to contact her mother overseas in the early morning hours of January 1, 2023. Her mother was sleeping and missed the call. She now regrets that, because Ana vanished shortly after and is assumed to have been murdered by her husband Brian Walshe.

Brian’s (alleged) audacity is actually unbelievable. He didn’t even report his wife missing, her employer called the police. Brian’s criminal history started long before Ana’s disappearance. He allegedly stole Andy Warhol paintings and sold fake art. He also broke into the home of his deceased father and stole vehicles and invaluable art – he also attempted to sell the property, despite having no claim to it.

Brian told police that Ana had gone to Washington DC to deal with a work emergency. Except, right around the time she vanished, he purchased $450 in cleaning supplies, including mops, buckets, tarps, Tyveks, drop cloths and various kinds of tape. At the store, he was seen wearing a black surgical mask, blue surgical gloves and made a cash purchase.

Brian also allegedly conducted google searches including:

- Ten ways to dispose of a dead body if you really need to
- Dismemberment and the best ways to dispose of a body
- Can you be charged with murder without a body
- Can you identify a body with broken teeth
- How to dispose of a 115 pound woman’s body

Brian has now been charged with Ana’s murder. It is not believed her remains have been found, due to the method in which he disposed of them.

On November 30, 2022, 7 year-old Athena Strand got off the school bus and headed into her home in Paradise, TX. She allegedly got into a fight with her stepmother and she went outside to cool off. After Athena’s parents hadn’t heard a peep from her for about an hour, they started searching for her and called police. People theorized that maybe Athena had run away, but trace of her was found for two days. Police announced on December 2 that Athena’s body had been found.

A FedEx delivery driver named Tanner Lynn Horner has been charged with Athena’s kidnapping and murder. Tanner had been delivering a Barbie doll that was a Christmas gift for Athena, when he abducted and murdered her in a crime of opportunity.

In the final episode of the True Crime Society Podcast for 2022, we discuss the murder of Athena Strand. We also discuss some updates to previous cases that we have covered.

In 1957, the body of a child was found in a box in Pennsylvania. For 65 years, the child remained unidentified. In December 2022, we finally learned his name – Joseph Augustus Zarelli.

Michael Vaughan went missing from his home in Fruitland, Idaho in July 2021. In November 2022, police excavated a backyard in the neighborhood – a two minute drive from Michael’s home. Police believe that married couple Stacey and Sarah Wondra had buried Michael in their backyard and have since moved his remains.

Alleged Killer Nurse Lucy Letby & Moscow Updates

Between 2015 and 2016, the mortality rates for infants at the Countess of Chester Hospital in Britain were unusually high. There were so many deaths and unexplained medical incidents occurring that the hospital actually stopped accepting premature infants to care for.

There seemed to be a common denominator in the hospital when these deaths– many of the babies had been around British nurse Lucy Letby. After a primary investigation, Lucy was moved to clerical duties at the hospital.

On 11 November 2020, Lucy was charged with eight counts of murder and ten counts of attempted murder in regards to the babies who had died or been injured under her care. Lucy’s alleged victims have not been named publicly, and are noted in court documents as Baby A – Baby Q.

Part of the prosecution against Lucy includes some notes that she allegedly wrote. One of the notes stated: “ I don't deserve to live. I DID THIS WHY ME. I killed them on purpose because I'm not good enough to care for them, and I am horrible and evil person.’

The Moscow Murders & Delphi Updates

7 december 2022 | 79 min

On November 13, 2022, four University students in Moscow, Idaho returned to their off-campus home after a big night out. By around 3am, Kaylee GonCalves (21) and Madison Mogen (21) were asleep in the same room on the 3rd floor of the home. Xana Kernodle (20) and her boyfriend Ethan Chapin (20) were asleep on the floor below.

What happened next is still unknown. But at 11.58am on that day, a 911 call was made for an ‘Unconscious Person.’ When police arrived, they found a crime scene that has been described as one of the most gruesome ever encountered. Kaylee, Maddie, Xana and Ethan were dead – brutally stabbed to death. The coroner has said that all of them were likely asleep when they were attacked.

We are now at almost a month after the murders and nobody has been arrested.

In October 2022, Ashley Bush was struggling with her latest pregnancy. She had three other children and her partner was unable to work. She was asking on social media for help with baby supplies and was looking to find work that she could do to earn some extra money. Ashley crossed paths online with ‘Lucy Barrows’ and that was the beginning of the end. Ashley met with Lucy (real name Amber Waterman) and lost her life. Amber tried to pass of Ashley’s baby as her own, even going as far as to stuff Ashley’s placenta in her underwear. The baby did not survive the ordeal and before Amber’s diabolical lie was uncovered, she actually held a funeral for Ashley’s baby, passing the child off as her own daughter.

Savanna Greywind was 8 months pregnant when she agreed to help a neighbor, Brooke Crews, with a sewing project. What actually happened when she arrived at Brooke’s apartment is unclear due to differing versions of events, but Savanna lost her life. Her baby was brutally cut from her womb, but thankfully survived. Brooke and her partner William managed to hide the evidence of their crime, as well as the baby from police for days before their horrific crime was uncovered. Savanna’s daughter Haisley is now a thriving five-year-old, in the care of her loving father.

Kids Who Kill & Delphi Round-up

In the US each year, there are more than 300 cases of a child killing their parent or parents. This means it happens around six times per week!

In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast we discuss five horrific cases:

Karly Cantrell was a member of True Crime Society on Facebook. Her oldest son Levi was having some issues recently and she asked him to move out due to his ‘poor behavior’. On October 10, Levi returned to his mother’s home and brutally murdered her.
Texas teen Tyler Roenz (17) had been in trouble recently. He had been charged in April with sexually assaulting another teen. On October 13, 2022, police asked people to be on the lookout for Tyler and his mother Michelle. There was a police chase and Michelle’s body was found in the trunk of the vehicle that Tyler was driving. He has been charged with her murder.
In July this year, Logan Lopez (24) asked his mother Mary Beth to bring some mail to his apartment. When she arrived, he brutally bashed her to death with a hammer. Police have said he planned the murder for over a year.
Mauri Belarmino (40) wrote a lovely Facebook post for her mother in July 2022. She wrote that her mother was great and amazing and that she had taught Mauri how to be a better citizen. But in September 2022, Mauri snapped and strangled her 74 y/o mother to death.
Hend Bustami (28) called 911 on October 26, 2022. She told the dispatcher, “I think I killed my mommy. “I broke the table on her head. I broke the table on her head and I cut her neck off.” Hend’s mother Afaf was found dead in the home they shared. Hend had been previously arrested this year and claimed it was because police had never seen anyone as good looking as her.

We also discuss the huge updates in the case of murdered teens Liberty German and Abigail Williams from Delphi, Indiana. Seemingly out of the blue, on October 26, a Delphi local named Richard Allen was arrested and charged with the girls’ murders. Richard does not seem to have been on anyone’s radar in regards to this case and the news is shocking.

The show is based on the true story of the Broaddus family. In 2014, Maria and Derek Broaddus paid $1.3m for their dream family home on 657 Boulevard in Westfield, NJ. Three days after they closed on the house, their nightmare began.

‘The Watcher’ would send them disturbing and threatening letters. This is an excerpt from one of the letters received:

657 Boulevard is anxious for you to move in. It has been years and years since the young blood ruled the hallways of the house. Have you found all of the secrets it holds yet? Will the young blood play in the basement? Or are they too afraid to go down there alone. I would [be] very afraid if I were them. It is far away from the rest of the house. If you were upstairs you would never hear them scream.

Will they sleep in the attic? Or will you all sleep on the second floor? Who has the bedrooms facing the street? I’ll know as soon as you move in. It will help me to know who is in which bedroom. Then I can plan better.

The Death of Debbie Collier | Updates: Tee Stauch & Eliza Fletcher

On September 10, 2022, Debbie Collier’s daughter received a Venmo payment with an alarming message. “They are not going to let me go love you there is a key to the house in the blue flower pot by the door”. The payment was for $2,385.

Debbie was never seen alive again. Shortly after the payment was made, Debbie was found naked and burned in a wooded area, around 60 miles away from her home. She was found clutching a small tree. Her cause of death has not been made public, but police have said there is no evidence of either suicide or kidnapping.

Debbie’s case is one of the strangest we have ever encountered. She was caught on CCTV, alone at a dollar store, around the time that the Venmo payment was made. Debbie purchased items that were found at her death scene.

There have been rumors about Debbie’s daughter being involved in the death. Or was this a mental break that ended in death? There are NO answers in Debbie’s case to date, even with the FBI joining the investigation. WHAT IS GOING ON?

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs & Crime, 47,000 women and girls worldwide were killed by their intimate partners or other family members in 2020. This means that, on average, a woman or girl is killed by someone in her own family every 11 minutes.

In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the cases of three women who were likely murdered by their partners.

Irene Gakwa met her boyfriend Nathan Hightman on Craigslist. The two had an on-again, off-again relationship and Irene’s family did not know that the two were still living together in February 2022. Irene spoke to her family in Kenya in late February this year and has not been seen again. The day after she vanished, Nathan purchased a 55 gallon drum and was seen burning something in it. He is not cooperating with police.
Karina Castro had a fight over Snapchat in September 2022 with her estranged, violent partner Rafa Solano. She threatened to tell everyone about Rafa’s sexual relationships. The following day, Rafa turned up to Karina’s home with a samurai sword. He beheaded her in the street outside her apartment, while her two young children were just feet away.
Maya Millete and her husband Larry had been having marriage troubles in early 2021. Maya was planning to separate from him and had consulted an attorney. When Maya’s family could not get in touch with her, they went to her home and forced Larry to open the door to the room where he said Maya was. Not surprisingly, the room was empty and Maya has not been seen since. On the night of her disappearance, many loud gunshots were heard by neighbors. Larry has since been arrested and charged with Maya’s murder – her remains have not been recovered. Maya’s disappearance is a strange one that involves witchcraft and hexes that were initiated by Larry in an attempt to control her.

On July 30, 2022, Allahnia ‘Fruity’ Lenoir and a friend arranged to meet up with two men at an apartment complex in Atlanta. Allahnia and the friend can be seen on CCTV entering the building. Later on, the friend and the two men emerge and are captured on video.

Allahnia is never seen leaving the complex.

After she vanished, the two men, Diante Reynolds and Steven Oboite cleaned the apartment thoroughly and moved out. It took police more than a week to search the apartment.

Allahnia’s mother believes she has been ‘moved’ from the apartment. Could she have been trafficked?

Alexis Ware was acting strangely in January 2022. She told her mother that the ‘devil’ would not stop contacting her, that a black truck was following her and that she would likely not be around to celebrate her 30th birthday in March 2022.

On January 30, 2022, Alexis arranged to meet her ex at a gas station. The plan was for him to give her gas money and then she would follow him in her vehicle back to a family member’s house. Instead, after leaving the 7/11, Alexis turned sharply and drove off in the opposite direction.

She has never been seen again. A few days after she vanished, her vehicle was found abandoned in a wooded area that Alexis would have been unfamiliar with. Her phone and the hair bonnet that she had been wearing were also found at the scene.

Ethan Kazmerzak from Iowa. Ethan was missing for over seven years before AWP found his remains in 2020 inside his vehicle in a pond, near where he was last known to be alive.
Samantha Jean Hopper and her 22 month old daughter Courtney Holt disappeared from Russellville, Arkansas on September 11, 1998. They remained missing for over TWENTY years before AWP pulled the vehicle containing their remains from the Illinois Bayou.
Matthew ‘Jed’ Hall (16) left a note behind for his family when he left home for the final time in Idaho on January 22, 2018. It seems that he intended to take his own life. In May 2022, AWP searched the Snake River in Idaho for Jed, and found his remains in his vehicle, 50 feet from shore.
Carey Mae Parker was a 23y/o mother-of-three who vanished in Texas on March 17, 1991. Carey had been set to attend her son’s birthday party when she disappeared. AWP searched for Carey in 2021, thirty years after she vanished. The found her vehicle and her remains, along with a bicycle that she had purchased for her son’s birthday in Lake Tawakoni.

In February 2022, father of four, Jared Bridegan, was returning home after dropping two of his kids off to their mother, his ex-wife. He had his 2 y/o daughter Bexley in the car with him. On a quiet, residential street, Jared came across a tire laying in the road. He stopped his vehicle and carefully got out to move the obstacle. Almost as soon as he opened the door to his vehicle, he was brutally murdered. His daughter thankfully was unharmed in the incident.

Jared split from his first wife Shanna Gardner in 2015. Shanna came from a very wealthy family and is the heiress to the ‘Stampin’ Up’ fortune.

Their eventual split was very messy – the court filing for their divorce includes over 300 documents. It has been reported that Shanna asked if there was someone who could ‘shut him up’, in reference to Jared.

Shanna and Jared both remarried. Jared had two more children with his second wife Kirsten. The last court filing in regards to his divorce with Shanna was made just four months before his murder (7 years after the initial divorce started!)

Mysterious Doe Cases | The Somerton Man, Opelika Jane Doe & Artesia Jane Doe

In October 2020, a quail hunter stumbled across human remains in a cattle float box in Artesia, AZ. He assumed the remains belonged to a child as they were surrounded by toys. When police investigated, further, they discovered the remains belonged to a female, likely aged between 13-22. This Jane Doe was wearing what appeared to be a ‘witches robe’, as well as a jacket covered with skull print.

The remains of a young girl were found in Opelika, Alabama in January 2012. She remains unidentified to this day. In a twist to this case, police have photographs of the girl they believe to be Opelika Jane Doe, when she was alive. Authorities believe she attended a bible school in the area. No records of attendees at the school were kept, and none of the teachers recall her name. This tiny girl had been so badly abused before her death, that police believe she had a very noticeable injury to her eye. This injury can be seen in the photos they have.

The mystery of the Somerton Man is one that has captured the public’s attention for decades. In 1948, a man was found deceased on Somerton Beach in South Australia. All labels had been removed from his clothing and many medical experts believe that he died from poisoning. Over the years, many theories about this man were discussed – was he a spy who had been murdered? Or a ballet dancer – he had pointed toes and high calf muscles, similar to those displayed by dancers? In July 2022, following extensive DNA testing, researchers announced that they had likely identified the Somerton Man. (Right before we aired this episode, as usual!)

Vacation Nightmares 2 | Atsumi Yoshikubo, Christe Chen, David & Michelle Paul

Japanese woman Atsumi Yoshikubo travelled alone to Yellowknife, Canada. She wanted to see the Northern Lights. Interestingly, Atsumi planned her trip for the off-season, when many of the tourist attractions were closed. In eerie final footage, Atsumi was spotted on CCTV purchasing souvenirs. Hotel staff raised the alarm when she never checked out of her room. Her belongings were neatly packed, but there was no sign of Atsumi. Her remains were eventually found on a hiking trail – did Atsumi take her own life? Or was foul play involved?

Christe Chen married Bradley Dawson in February 2022 after a whirlwind romance – they planned their wedding in under a month. The couple had been married for 5 months when they travelled from the US to Fiji for their honeymoon. They were staying at the exclusive Turtle Island Resort, where villas cost over $3,000 per night. The couple only enjoyed two days in paradise before Bradley was found drunk and injured on a neighboring island. When staff entered the couple’s villa, Christe was found, beaten to death and surrounded by blood. Her husband Bradley has been arrested and is currently in custody in Fiji.

Americans David and Michelle Paul tried to take a child-free vacation once a year, to get some much-needed couple time together. They traveled to Fiji and also only had a few days to enjoy paradise. Both David and Michelle became very sick, very quickly. They were treated by medical staff on the island, but both passed away within days of each other. Causes of death for the couple have never been made public – were they poisoned?

In this episode, we also discuss updates to the case of Christina Lee Powell. Christina was missing for three weeks before her body was found in the passenger seat of her vehicle in a mall parking lot in San Antonio, TX.

Missing | Dylan Rounds & Chrissy Lee Powell

19 year-old farmer Dylan Rounds was last heard from in May 2022. He told his grandmother he was going to move a grain truck out of the rain on his Utah farm. The truck was moved and Dylan has not been heard from again.

There are a lot of players and strange occurrences in Dylan’s case. Just days before he vanished, he had an encounter with a man named Chase Venstra. Chase was barefoot in the desert and acting erratically. He asked Dylan for a ride and media reports say that Dylan refused. Chase has since been arrested on other charges.

Is he responsible for Dylan’s disappearance? Or does Dylan’s neighbour, James Brenner know where Dylan is?

Christina Lee Powell called her workplace on July 5 to say that she was running late for work. Eerie final footage of her was captured on her Ring doorbell – she was carrying her handbag and seemed to be rushing to get out the door. Christina never made it to work. She remained missing for over three weeks.

Just before this episode was released, Christina was found deceased in the passenger seat of her vehicle in a restaurant parking lot in San Antonio, Texas. Had her vehicle been there for the whole time she was missing? How did nobody notice her?

Teal’s followers are known as ‘Tealers’. Teal routinely gives out advice to suicidal people (she has no medical or psychiatric qualifications). Several of Teal’s followers have taken their own lives after reaching out to her and her team.

Is what Teal Swan is doing dangerous or does she have other’s best interests at heart?

We also discuss the crazy case of Baby Holly. Tina and Harold Clouse were found murdered in Texas in 1981, but their remains were not identified until 2021. The couple had a baby before their deaths and their extended family prayed for over 40 years for answers about what had happened to the family. In 2022, ‘Baby Holly’ was found alive and well – she had been legally adopted and was unaware of the story of her biological family.

It is believed that Tina and Harold were likely killed because of their involvement in a cult called ‘Christ’s Family’. Members of this cult wore diapers on their heads as turbans and men and women were separated from each other.

Vacation Nightmares | The Korkki Sisters, Kristy Manzanares, Carla Valpeoz & David Sneddon

American sisters Anne and Robin Korkki were on the trip of a lifetime. They were staying at an exclusive resort in Seychelles, when the hotel butler became concerned that he hadn’t seem them for a period of time. He entered their room and found both sisters in bed, deceased.

Kristy Manzanares and her husband Kenneth boarded a cruise ship to Alaska with their three daughters in 2017. They were travelling with extended family. Just two days into their vacation, it all went wrong. Other guests recalled hearing a woman ‘screaming for her life’. Kristy was found dead in her cabin and Kenneth was arrested for her murder.

Carla Valpeoz is an American woman who has been missing in Peru since 2018. Carla was brave – she was legally blind and wanted to see the world before her eyesight totally failed. There is eerie final footage of Carla, walking with her cane. She has never been seen again.

David Sneddon was an American man, visiting China in 2004. He vanished without a trace and many people suspected that he had an accident while hiking. More information has come to light recently that suggests David may have been kidnapped by North Korean officials and that he has been forced to work for the Kim regime there.

A 2014 study found that around 500 times per year in the US, a parent kills their child/children. A mother kills her child on average, every three days. Why? There is never an easy answer - financial problems, single parenthood, multiple children, substance abuse and mental illness can all contribute to filicide.

In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast we discuss five recent cases where a mother has killed her child or children. Please note that this episode does contain some graphic details – listener and viewer discretion is advised.

Julissa Hart was pulled over by police in Minnesota in May 2022. She was covered in blood, which she tried to explain as menstrual blood. Police searched her vehicle and found her son Eli, deceased in the trunk. Julissa allegedly shot Eli while he was strapped into his car seat.
Angela Flores’ neighbors called 911 after they found her rambling incoherently in their yard. Just hours later, a 911 call was made from her home. Angela had allegedly murdered her three children on Mother’s Day this year.
Makaylia Jolley is a young mother aged 20 with two young babies. In May 2022, multiple 911 calls were made after she was seen throwing her infant daughter onto the road. The baby died and the death penalty is being sought in this case.
Trinh Nguyen was found almost unresponsive in her car. A note was found on the dash: “Please call 911 My children are Dead in their bed at 119 Timber Ridge Rd.’ Trinh’s two sons were shot in the head by their mother and they both passed away days later in hospital.
In September 2021, Fallon Harris asked her 12 y/o son Kaden where had he put her SD card. He was unable to give it back to his mother, so she shot him twice, killing him.

Lacey Fletcher’s childhood, growing up in Slaughter, Louisiana seemed to be fairly normal. She played volleyball and had a close group of friends. There are public photos of a smiling Lacey taken from her yearbook and neighbors recall interacting with her and seeing her regularly out exercising.

When Lacey reached the age of 14, something happened. Her parents withdrew her from school and allegedly began to home school her. They have said that she was diagnosed with autism and her condition became more severe around this time.

Nobody saw Lacey in public for over a decade. Her mother Sheila called 911 in January 2022 to report that Lacey was unresponsive on the couch. When authorities arrived, they were met with the most horrific scene they had ever encountered. 'I have been a sheriff for six years, and I have had a lot of things happen here in East Feliciana Parish, but this type of scene, this is by far the worst,' Sheriff Jeffery Travis said.

Lacey had essentially been left to rot and die on the couch in her home. Her mother has said she refused to get up to use the bathroom, so she lay in her own excrement for years. The details of Lacey’s sad death are so horrific that medical staff were on hand to treat jurors after they saw photos of the scene.

Prison Escape | Vicky & Casey White

On April 29, 2022, Vicky White made a decision that would alter the course of her life. Nothing would ever be the same.

Early that morning, Vicky put a long-thought out plan into motion. She was ready. She told her colleagues at the Lauderdale County Detention Center that she was transporting inmate Casey Cole White to a mental health evaluation. She broke all protocol and escorted the inmate alone – she had her excuses for doing so ready and nobody questioned her. She also told her workplace that she had a medical appointment that day and that she would likely not return to work.

There were no appointments – either for Vicky or Casey. The corrections officer and the inmate had been carrying on an illicit affair for two years. The two went on the run, through many states. They had $90k cash to fund their escapade. Police always seemed to be one step behind them.

Until May 9. Vicky and Casey were spotted leaving a budget motel in Evansville, Indiana and a police chase ensued. Their car crashed and Vicky took her own life before she could be apprehended. Casey was taken back into custody.

According to an article by theverge.com, around 21 percent of Lyft drivers and 27 percent of Uber drivers in the US are women. With the increase in rideshare options comes an increase in risk for female passengers and female drivers.

In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast we discuss the cases of four different women who have either been murdered or are missing. The one commonality for these cases is that the women would likely be here today if it wasn’t for accepting or offering a rideshare lift.

Christina Spicuzza accepted an Uber fare in February 2022. Horrifyingly, the rider was never looking for a lift – he was out to rob and kill her. There is terrifying dashcam footage of Christi in the moments before her murder. Her body was found days after she vanished – she was still wearing her protective face mask when she was discovered.
Ella Goodie accepted a Lyft job in March 2022. The ride was to take her from Louisiana to Texas, a 7 hour round trip. Ella never made it home to her teenage daughters. She is still missing and her case has been classified as a homicide.
Felicia Johnson travelled from her home in California to Houston, Texas in April 2022. Some reports say that she went to a club to look for work. After that, she was reportedly waiting for an Uber outside and it was delayed. She accepted a lift with an unidentified man and has not been seen since. Her phone was found abandoned and covered in blood.
Samantha Josephson decided to finish up her night out with friends in March 2019, and she called an Uber. A car pulled up and she got in. She mistook this vehicle for her Uber and this mistake ended her life. Samantha was stabbed over 120 times by her driver. The judge in this case called Samantha’s murder the ‘most severe’ that he had seen before.

Murder | Orsolya Gaal

On Friday, April 15, 2022, Orsolya Gaal (51) went to see a show with friends and she stopped a bar in her neighborhood before returning to her home in Queens, New York.

Orsolya would never be seen alive by her husband and two sons again. Orsolya was stabbed around 60 times and her carotid artery and trachea were punctured. Her body was shoved into a large bag by her murderer. Police released eerie CCTV footage of a male figure walking away from Orsolya’s house, wheeling her body in the bag. The murderer got less than a mile before he dumped the bag and ran. Orsolya’s body was discovered just hours later by a dog walker.

Orsolya had been having a secret affair with her handyman, David Bonola, for years. On the night she died, she allegedly told David that their relationship was over. He was not happy. On April 20, he walked up to detectives investigating this case and said ‘I hear you are looking for me.’ David confessed to Orsolya’s brutal murder and is now in custody.

Murder or Self Defense? | Influencer Courtney Tailor & Christian Obumseli

Police in Miami received a 911 call on April 3, 2022. The female caller said there had been an altercation and that a man had been stabbed to death.

This is the story of influencer Courtney Tailor and her boyfriend Toby Obumseli.

Courtney has over 2 million Instagram followers and according to social media, she seemed to be living a high-flying life. She lived with Toby in a luxury condo in Miami and things seemed to be going well for the couple.

But their reality was very different. Sources now say that the couple were in a toxic relationship and were abusive to each other. They had apparently split up in the weeks before this incident, but Toby would allegedly find his way into the apartment complex and would sleep in common areas, waiting for Courtney.

It is still unclear what happened on April 3, but Toby died after he was stabbed in the shoulder. Courtney is claiming self-defence, but Toby’s family are adamant that he was not the aggressor.

Decades of Abuse | The Turpin Family

In this episode, we will be discussing horrific instances of child abuse. Listener discretion is advised.

In 2018, a brave 17 year-old managed to escape the home where she had been held captive her entire life. She found a deactivated cell-phone that she took with her on her escape, and she called 911. She told police that she had been kept locked in a room for 20 hours a day and was allowed one shower per year.

When police arrived, they found TWELVE additional children locked in the house. Human feces, dead animals and rotten food covered the entire property. This was not a case of human trafficking or abduction though, this is the horrific case of the Turpin Family.

David and Louise Turpin had 13 children during their marriage. Outwardly, the parents portrayed the family as loving and close knit – they took the children on vacation to Disneyland and Vegas, where they all posed in matching outfits. In reality, they did not care for any of them and mistreated them in the worst possible ways. All of the children were uneducated and physically and emotionally abused. They used to eat ketchup, mustard and ice as there was literally nothing else to eat.

Kidnapped & Murdered | Naomi Irion

Usually, we go about our daily routines without a care in the world. Wake up, get ready and drive to work. Naomi Irion (18) did exactly this on March 12, 2022 in Fernley, Nevada. She got ready for work at Panasonic, stopped to buy a drink and drove her vehicle to the Walmart parking lot like she did daily. She sat in her car and waited for the shuttle bus that would ferry her to work.

Naomi would not make it to work on March 12. She would never be seen alive again.

A man was captured on CCTV loitering in the parking lot where Naomi was waiting. He can be seen going up to her vehicle and forcing her into the passenger seat. He then drove off in her vehicle, taking her captive.

The search for Naomi spanned over two weeks. On March 29, authorities found her body dumped in a shallow grave in a remote area of Nevada.

Troy Driver (41) has since been arrested and charged with kidnapping and murder in Naomi’s case. Police have been very tightlipped about the investigation. Was this a random abduction? Had Naomi come across Troy Driver in some capacity before she disappeared?

Cults | Love Has Won

On April 28, 2021, police entered a home in Moffatt, Colorado. Their visit was caught on body cam – they can be seen entering a home filled with adults and children. They made their way into a bedroom where they came across the unimaginable – a mummified body wrapped in a sleeping bag and enshrined in fairy lights. This is the story of Amy Carlson and the Love Has Won cult.

In 2007, Amy left her husband, three children and job at McDonald’s and ran away to start a new life with a man she had met on an internet forum. The group was known as the "Galactic Federation of Light". Amy was the head of the group and she was known as ‘Mother God’.

The group evolved over the years, and it eventually became known as ‘Love Has Won’. Amy began taking on the negative energy of the world (apparently) and she became weaker and sicker as the years went on. She told followers she had ‘stage five’ cancer and she began ingesting colloidal silver to treat her ailments. Her skin would turn a grey colour.

After alarming photos of Amy were posted online, her family requested multiple welfare checks and were always turned away by Love Has Won members. When police finally obtained access on April 28, Amy’s remains were discovered. According to cult members, Amy is still part of the group, just from the 5th Dimension.

There are some cases that captivate the attention of the entire world – Elizabeth Smart and Gabby Petito are names that we would all recognize.

I am sure that most of us also know the name Sherri Papini. Sherri’s case got worldwide attention back in 2016 when she was abducted. Her husband Keith raised the alarm when Sherri was not home when he finished work for the day. She had also failed to pick up her two children from daycare.

The search for Sherri cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and went on for weeks. On November 24, 2016, 22 days after she was reported missing, Sherri was found alive on the side of a road in Yolo County, California. She was battered, branded and bruised but otherwise okay.

We all breathed a collective sigh of relief – thank goodness for a happy ending!

Until more details emerged. Allegations of Sherri’s racist background and details that did not add up made some of us wonder about the validity of her story. As the years went on, I think many people assumed that Sherri had not told the truth about her experience, but that nothing would ever come of it.

In March 2022, Sherri Papini was charged with making false statements to a federal law enforcement officer and mail fraud. Her whole abduction was a lie and she schemed a plan at the time to run off to be with an ex boyfriend, leaving her husband and young children to worry for weeks.

Madison vanished in 2020 after she told her mother that she was ‘going tanning’. Her car was found abandoned and the FBI got involved. It turns out that Madison fled to be with a man that she had been speaking with online.

Missing | Orrin and Orson West

Orrin and Orson West had a sad start to life. They were removed from their care of their biological mother when they were tiny and were placed in the care of their adoptive parents, Trezell and Jacqueline West.

The boys lived with four other siblings in California. In December 2020, their ‘father’ Trezell claims they went outside to play and were never seen again.

The local community in California searched alongside the police for months and months. Jacqueline and Trezell had their other children placed into care, allegedly because of ‘threats’ made by the public.

Police interviewed neighbors who said they had never actually seen Orrin and Orson in the area.

How could two little boys vanish, possibly months before they were reported missing?

This case seemed like it may be turning cold. Until March 2022, when Trezell and Jacqueline were each arrested on counts of second-degree murder, willful cruelty to a child and false reporting of an emergency. Police have now said that Orrin and Orson were murdered by the people who were meant to care for them most, months before the search for them began. The boys still remain missing.

Social Scammers | Belle Gibson, Coco Berthmann and Brittany Dawn

The rise of social media has led to it being easier for us to make new friends, keep in touch with friends and family all over the world. Technology has given us access to any information we could ever need, all within seconds.

With this increase in social media use comes some downsides too. People are now more easily able to take advantage of others and money is able to change hands so easily.

In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we chat about three Social Scammers – women who have been in trouble with the law after obtaining funds fraudulently from unsuspecting social media followers.

Belle Gibson is one of Australia’s most prolific social scammers. She managed to deceive huge corporations. Apple planned to include her health and wellness app on all iPads and Apple Watches. She told lie after lie about her health – she claimed to have terminal cancer that she cured by using holistic therapies. She also claimed that she underwent multiple heart operations and had endured strokes. None of this was true. When her deception was uncovered, she was dropped by Apple and Penguin Books. Belle has been ordered to repay hundreds of thousands of dollars – so far, none of the repayments have materialised.
Coco Berthmann had a troubled start to life. She has claimed that she managed to escape Germany as a teenager and that she had been trafficked by her parents for years. She moved to America and became a human rights activist. She established the Coco Berthmann Scholarship Fund and spoke about her ‘experiences’ publicly. In early 2022, Coco told a friend that she had stage 3 mantle cell lymphoma cancer. A GoFundMe was started for Coco, and it raised thousands of dollars. In February 2022, Coco was arrested on suspicion of communications fraud. Police investigated her ‘cancer diagnosis’ and found no evidence that Coco ever had the illness. Many of Coco’s other claims have now been questioned. There have been allegations that she was not actually a victim of child sex trafficking, said police, who could not verify her claims of working with the FBI.
Brittany Dawn has had a long, troubled run as an Influencer. She started out as a fitness influencer with her company BDawnFit. She got into trouble with her followers years ago after her ‘personalized’ eating plans, that people paid up to $500 for, turned out to not be so personal. She was also accused of triggering people with eating disorders by using tags such as #skipdinnerwakeupthinner. Brittany refused to refund most members and tried to move on with her life as a ‘Christian’ influencer. She married Jordan Nelson, a man who lost his job as a police officer after he used ‘excessive force’ during an arrest. She also faced much backlash after she released a tearful video, detailing how her husband shot her dog after it was hit by a car. The dog was still alive and breathing, but the couple decided to shoot it instead of taking it to a vet. In February 2022, the Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that the state of Texas was suing Brittany for between $250,000 and $1 million in penalties and court fees for misleading customers.

The Disappearance of Susan Powell

SUSAN’S STORY

When Susan Cox met Josh Powell, she envisioned her own ‘happily ever after’. They were both members of the LDS church and seemed to have similar values and goals in life.

The couple settled down and had two sons, Charlie and Braden.

One early pressure point in their marriage was interference and unwanted advances that were continually being made by Josh’s father, Steven Powell. Steven would film Susan without her consent and he wrote many cringe-worthy love songs for her. Susan became fed up and the family moved states from Washington to Utah.

Not too long into their marriage, Josh began to change. He became increasingly controlling - even though Susan was the breadwinner in the family, he would control their finances so tightly that she did not have enough money to feed her children. She began to grow vegetables to make sure they had enough to eat. Susan also told family and friends that Josh threatened to "destroy her" if she filed for divorce. She then said that if she dies "it may not be an accident, even if it may look like one."

One cold December day in 2009, Susan’s neighbor visited the Powell family and they ate together. Susan said she felt tired and wanted to nap. This was the last time anyone would see Susan alive.

Josh’s version of events on the day that Susan disappeared is that he took his two young sons camping, at midnight, in ‘blizzard like’ conditions’. He told police that when he arrived home, Susan was gone.

Josh moved with Charlie and Braden back to Washington and they lived there for the next few years. Susan’s family battled for custody of the boys for years, and it got to a point where Josh was only allowed to see them during visits that were supervised by a social worker. When it became evident that he was never going to regain full custody of his sons, Josh killed both children and then himself in one of the most horrendous crimes that you could imagine.

Police closed their active investigation into Susan’s case in 2013. I think we all assumed that her case would remain cold indefinitely. Until now. Just a few days ago, searchers recovered bones and clothing from a mine in the Utah desert. Susan’s family have said they are hopeful the remains belong to Susan.

Missing | Heidi Planck & Beau Mann

Two people with two very different stories have vanished without a trace in Los Angeles.

Heidi Planck seemed to be living the California dream – she drove a top of the line Range Rover, lived in a beautiful house and had a great co-parenting relationship with her ex-husband. They worked together to raise their 11 year-old son.

On October 17, 2021, Heidi loaded her labradoodle named Seven into her Range Rover and she drove to watch her son’s football game in Downey. Her ex was also there, and he said she seemed ‘edgy’. She left the game without warning at half time and has not been seen again. Seven was found wandering around the 28th floor of an upscale apartment complex in downtown LA later that day. Heidi’s car was found parked nearby. Heidi remains missing to this day, despite extensive searches of landfill by the LAPD.

Heidi’s case is a complex one that involves fraud, FBI raids, CCTV images and there are many plausible scenarios for what may have happened to her. Could her disappearance be related to a fraud scheme that was being carried out by the company she worked for? There are also whispers that Heidi may have overdosed during a party and that her body may have been disposed of down a garbage chute. Or did Heidi leave her complicated life behind?

Beau Mann was known to be an entrepreneur. He founded a social network for recovering addicts, ‘Sober Grid’. He had been interviewed by Forbes Magazine about his own sobriety. Things were looking good for Beau – he had recently started taking a salary from his company and he seemed on track for big things.

Beau had just returned to his home in LA after spending Thanksgiving with his family in Texas. He was last seen on CCTV on November 30, 2021 at a 7-11. It is believed that Beau got into an Uber, and less than 10 minutes later, he sent a 9-11 text from his phone. Beau has not been seen since that time. The Uber driver is adamant that Beau was dropped off at his apartment. Beau’s family have combed through hours of CCTV and have said that Beau never entered the apartment complex again.

LAPD have suggested to Beau’s family that he may be undergoing a ‘digital detox’. This is an idea the family flat out refuse to entertain and say that Beau would never leave his company unattended for this long. Beau’s mother is worried that he has suffered a relapse or a mental health crisis. Another theory is that Beau may have been harmed for his belongings – he was carrying phones and computers at the time he vanished.

Dating App Deaths | Lauren Smith-Fields, Sydney Loofe & Warriena Wright

Lauren Smith-Fields was a vibrant and ambitious 23 year old woman who loved matcha tea, working out and was studying to be a physical therapist. In December 2021, she met a man off the dating app, Bumble. Lauren invited the man to her apartment in Bridgeport, CT, where they had some tequila and watched a movie. During the evening, Lauren left the apartment for 10-15 minutes to meet someone outside. When she came back in, they continued watching a movie and Lauren fell asleep on the couch. Her Bumble date alleges that he carried her to bed and he then fell asleep beside her.

When he woke up at 6.30am, Lauren was not breathing and she had blood coming out of her nose. He called 911 and was said by police to be “frantic, trembling, and visibly shaken.” When authorities arrived, Lauren was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into Lauren’s death has been botched from the start. Lauren’s family have said that:

Lauren’s Bumble date was not taken into custody and questioned because he seemed like a ‘nice guy’, according to police.
They were not informed by authorities about Lauren’s death. They had to find out by going to her apartment when they could not get in touch with her. There they found a note on the door from the landlord, and that is how they learned their daughter had passed away.
Police treatment of the family has been horrible. Police officers who were initially working the case have been taken off it, and an investigation into their conduct is being carried out by Internal Affairs.
No forensic examination of Lauren’s apartment was conducted until the family stepped in. When Lauren’s family went to clear out her apartment, they found a used condom, an unidentified pill, as well as bloody sheets, that had not been taken into evidence.

An autopsy was conducted and the Medical Examiner has determined that Lauren died from a drug overdose of fentanyl, promethazine, hydroxyzine, and alcohol. Lauren’s family are adamant that she was not a drug user.

Because fentanyl was found in Lauren’s system, Bridgeport PD opened the investigation which will be conducted by the Narcotics and Vice Division with assistance by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Sydney was brutally murdered by a couple, Bailey Boswell and Aubrey Trail, after she met Bailey on Tinder. Sydney was dismembered and her body was hacked into 14 pieces.

Kids Who Kill | The Bever, Porco, and Van Breda families

We hear almost daily about mothers and fathers killing their children, sometimes their entire family. You would absolutely be familiar with Scott Peterson, Susan Smith and Chris Watts.

What you hear less often is when children plot and scheme and murder their families. The term for this is either familicide if many family members are killed, or parricide if only parents are killed.

Today on the the True Crime Society Podcast we discuss three cases of ‘Kids Who Kill’.

-In 2015 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Robert and Michael Bever who were 18 and 16 at the time, went on a murderous rampage using knives and hatchets. They managed to murder their parents and three of their siblings before they were stopped by police. The brothers had planned to go on a cross-country killing spree, hoping to kill over 100 people. Thankfully, two Bever children survived and a lot of the testimony that was given helped to put Robert and Michael behind bars for good.

- Christopher Porco was in trouble in 2004. He had forged his father’s signature on financial documents and had obtained fraudulent loans. His parents were not happy and frequently told him so. In November that year, Christopher drove from his dorm to the family home, where he attacked his parents with an axe. His father Peter Porco sustained 16 major axe wounds to his face and head including penetration to his brain and part of his jaw ‘ fell’ off following the attack. Despite all this, Peter managed to get out of bed and go about his daily morning routine before dying. He spent some time in the bathroom and at the sink, he loaded the dishwasher, packed his lunch for the day and wrote a check. He finally collapsed and died at the front door. Joan initially told police that Christopher was the attacker but then recanted.

- The Van Breda family lived an affluent, high-flying life in South Africa. Martin and Teresa were very successful and were raising three children Rudi, Henri and Marli. One night, an intruder allegedly broke into their mansion in a secure, gated community, murdering three members of the family with an axe. Henri survived with minor injuries and Marli spent months in hospital recovering. Except it turns out, there was no intruder. Henri had an alleged methamphetamine addiction and his allowance had been cut off by his parents, so he killed them.

How the system failed missing children Harmony Montgomery & Oakley Carlson

Harmony Montgomery and Oakley Carlson lived on opposite sides of the country. They never met each other and neither had the chance to even live their own lives.

Both Harmony and Oakley vanished while in the care of their parents - the very people who were meant to nurture, care and protect them.

Harmony was last known to be alive in 2019. She would be 7 years old if she is alive today. Harmony’s early years were sad - both her parents had drug abuse issues and Harmony had been in foster homes. She was eventually returned to the custody of her father Adam, and that decision sealed her fate.

It finally came to light in 2021 that Harmony had not been seen for years. Her biological mother has just now been speaking publicly and insists she has been trying to find Harmony. Police have been searching the last locations in New Hampshire that Harmony was known to be at and nothing has been found. Adam has now been arrested on charges related to the abuse and neglect of Harmony.

Oakley Carlson also had a rough start to life. She had been placed with a foster family when she was a baby and she lived with them for years. The foster family have said publicly that they were devastated when Oakley was returned to the care of her biological parents.

Her foster mother Jamie said “They made a mistake. “A big mistake. I told them in my last letter it was going to be on their shoulders if something happens to her.”

A school principal raised the alarm about not seeing Oakley in December 2021. Police began to investigate and discovered that Oakley had not been seen since February 2021.

Oakley’s parents Andrew Carlson and Jordan Bowers have been investigated and they have since been charged with apparently withholding potentially life saving medication from one of Oakley’s siblings.

As of mid January 2022, there is no sign of either Harmony or Oakley.

The Delphi Murders of Libby and Abby - Who is Anthony_Shots?

On February 13, 2017, Liberty German (14) and her best friend Abigail Williams (13) had an extra day off school due to a snow day. They had a sleepover and fatefully decided to go to the Monon High Bridge in Delphi, Indiana to hang out.

They were dropped to the bridge at around 1.45pm on February 13 by Libby's sister. This is the the last time the pair were seen alive.

Libby and Abby were brutally murdered and their bodies were discovered the day after they went to the bridge - Valentines Day 2017.

Their case has had wide media coverage, partly due to footage that the girls took of the alleged suspect right before their murders. There is some infamous audio of the suspect saying 'Guys, down the hill'. There is also some fairly grainy video footage of the man that Libby shot with her phone.

Now, almost five years on from the girls' murders, no arrest/s have ever been made in their case. It almost seemed to be going cold. Until just a few days ago.

Indiana State Police made an appeal for information about an online user name - anthony_shots

The anthony_shots profile was fake and used images of a known male model. The profile’s creator portrayed the model on his account to be extremely wealthy and showed him owning numerous sports cars.

Very quickly, internet sleuths and media outlets tracked down a man who regularly used that user name - Kegan Kline. Kegan is already in jail, arrested on 30 counts, including child exploitation, possession of child pornography and obstruction of justice. Legal documents that have been made public prove that he used the name anthony_shots online.

The Smiley Face Killer - Fact or Fiction?

Between 2009 and March 2016, authorities searching Boston area waterways recovered the bodies of at least 11 people, mostly young men, who had previously been reported missing.

This happens across the world - from small towns to huge cities. In England, 61 bodies, mostly of young men, were recovered from the canals of Greater Manchester between 2008 and 2014.

Could all these deaths really just be accidents or is there something more at play here?

Join us for this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast as we discuss the possibility of Smiley Face Killer/s being responsible for some of these disappearances and deaths. Are a network of domestic terrorists working together to carry out these crimes?

We also discuss some cases where Smiley Face graffiti was found near a location where a previously missing man was found dead -

- A smiley face was found painted on an overpass near where Dakota James' body was found.
- Tommy Booth went missing from a bar in 2008 and his body was found in a creek behind the venue two weeks later. A smiley face was painted on a wall under the deck of the bar.
- Lucas Homan went missing from La Cross, Wisconsin in 2009. He left a bar to walk home with a friend and was not seen alive again. The friend woke up the next day in the ER with a head injury and no memory of what happened. Lucas' body was pulled from the Mississippi River days after and a smiley face was found painted near the scene.
- Todd Geib went missing in 2005 from Michigan. His body was found three weeks later in a lake that had already been searched. A smiley face had been spray-painted on a tree near where his body was found, and a smiley face sticker was later placed on his gravesite.
- William Hurley went missing in Boston in 2009 after leaving a Bruins game. His body was found in the Charles River six days later and there was a smiley face painted near the scene.

Accident or Murder? Why do missing men keep turning up in rivers?

Almost daily we hear of a case of a different missing man that vanishes after a night out with friends. It happens everywhere - Boston, Chicago, Wisconsin, Minnesota. Even in England. Big cities and small towns. The stories of these men play out in the same way. Family and friends conduct desperate searches and make frenzied social media posts in an attempt to find him before time runs out. And then the worst happens, a body is pulled from a lake or river, usually not far from where the man was last seen. The search is over.

Can all of these cases really be attributed to accidents? Why do these cases seem to happen in clustered locations?

In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we look at the cases of five men who were missing and later recovered in water. We also discuss one current case where the man is still missing and a river is currently being searched:

- Christopher Jenkins went missing from Minneapolis in 2002 on Halloween night. His body was found in a river four months later. Police originally classified his death as an accident and had to apologize to Chris' family when they determined it was actually likely a homicide.

- Zachary Marr went missing from a bar in Boston on February 13, 2016. He had gone outside for a cigarette and messaged his friends that he wanted to leave. In the matter of minutes while they were getting their coats, Zachary vanished into the night. His body was found in a river one month after he disappeared and his death is thought to be accidental.

- Dakota James was last seen alive on January 25, 2017 in Pittsburgh. He was walking home after a night out with friends. His body was pulled from a river 40 days later. Dakota's family believe he had been drugged on the night he disappeared and that the condition of his body was too 'pristine' to have been in the water for so long. A smiley face was found spray painted on an underpass near where Dakota's body was found.

- Jelani Day went missing in August and his body was pulled from a river in September. Pathologist Dr Jame Bryant said within his 50 years of experience he had never examined a body as destroyed as the 25-year-old.

- Dakota Bingham went missing from a bar in Nashville on October 10, 2021. He called a Lyft to get home but never made the ride. There is apparently CCTV of Dakota falling into the Cumberland River and struggling to swim. His body was recovered just days after he disappeared.

- Brendan Santo was visiting friends at Michigan State University on October 29. He left to walk to another area and has not been seen since. As of November 24, 2021, Brendan is still missing. The Red Cedar River has been searched many times for him and police are hopeful of a breakthrough now that the water level is receding. The FBI are also involved in the search for Brendan.

'My Name is Cleo' | The Abduction of 4-Year-Old Cleo Smith

Join Stephanie and Olivia this week as they cover the highly-requested, insane story of the abduction and safe (!) recovery of 4 y/o Cleo Smith in Western Australia.

Cleo went on a camping trip with her Mum Ellie, Dad Jake and baby sister Isla on October 15. The area where the family was camping was very beautiful but remote. Cleo woke up at 1.30am on October 16 and asked her mum for a drink of water. When Ellie woke up again at 6am, Cleo and her sleeping bag were missing from the tent.

One of the largest and most comprehensive police investigations ever undertaken in Australian history began at 6.23am on October 16.

Drones and spy planes were used. Hundreds of full-time police officers were assigned to Cleo's case and they worked tirelessly for weeks on end. They even searched through tons of rubbish, collected from an area spanning thousands of kilometres, looking for the smallest clue.

On November 6, 18 days after Cleo disappeared, the unexpected happened. CLEO WAS FOUND SAFE! She was found playing with toys at around 1am in a locked house just MINUTES from her own home.

A man named Terence Kelly has been arrested for Cleo's abduction and will face court again in December.

And just when you think this story could not get any more unbelievable, it does. Terence had an extensive social media presence, made up of fake accounts for 'family members' that he made up. He also had a huge obsession with Bratz dolls - his house was a shrine to them. Are these the toys that Cleo was found playing with? Most of the accounts have been removed, but we have the receipts. Terence even followed Cleo's parents on social media.

Was this really a random stranger abduction as per the police? Or did Terence have an obsession with Cleo and her family?

"I'll either see you again or never see you again" | The Disappearance of Daniel Robinson

Daniel Robinson disappeared from the desert in Buckeye, Arizona in June 2021. He remains missing to this day.

In the weeks leading up to his disappearance, Daniel had been acting unusually. He visited his sister and didn't utter a word during the whole visit. He spoke to his friends about wanting to rest and about miracles. He met a woman named Katelyn (he was her instacart shopper) and became infatuated with her. Their 'relationship' culminated in Katelyn asking Daniel to leave her alone. The final message he sent to Katelyn was "The world can get better, but I’ll have to take all the time I can or we can, whatever to name it. I’ll either see you again or never see you again."

Daniel's Jeep was found wrecked a few weeks after he disappeared. The clothes he had been wearing were found in the car, along with his keys, phone and wallet. Investigators downloaded the black box from the car and found that someone had attempted to start it FORTY FOUR times following the last accident. There had also been a prior accident that caused the airbags to deploy, and the car had been driven at least 11 miles following that crash.

During the search for Daniel, a human skull was found in the area near his Jeep. This turned out to be unrelated to Daniel's case.

Daniel's family are calling for his case to be reclassified as an 'endangered missing person'. This will enable them to further the investigation with warrants.

First up we have a BIG update on the Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie case. We also give a quick rundown on the case of missing girl Cleo Smith, who disappeared from her family’s tent in Western Australia over the past weekend.

For anyone who is not familiar with this one, definitely start with Part One. Alex Murdaugh and his wife Maggie lived an affluent life with their two sons Buster and Paul in South Carolina. They were/are basically South Carolina Royalty - their family has been high profile in the area for decades.

A few years ago, things started going really wrong for them - their housekeeper died mysteriously and Paul (allegedly) caused a boat crash while drunk that killed 19 y/o Mallory Beach. And then in June this year, Alex found Paul and Maggie murdered at one of the many homes they owned. Police have now reopened other cold cases in the area, looking for connections to the Murdaugh's. And to top it off, Alex allegedly paid someone to shoot him in the head in a suicide-for-hire insurance plot.

In this episode we discuss (this synopsis is very general as I don’t want to spoil the story for anyone. :

In this episode we talk about 3 Jane Doe cases with some bizarre twists.

First, is the Annandale Doe who was found with a plastic bag taped over her head in Babyland - the children's section of the Pleasant Valley Memorial Park Cemetery. We agree, Babyland is a terrible name, but that's besides the point. She was found with a small Christmas tree beside her, a Minnie mouse fanny pack and a vague suicide note.

Next, we talk about the Seattle Doe known as Mary Anderson. Mary booked a two night stay at the Hotel Vintage Park to commit suicide by drinking Metamucil mixed with cyanide (ew). Judging by her belongings, Mary seemed well-off and investigators believed she was educated due to the fact that she was able to get cyanide. Along with another vague suicide note (see above), a pressed maple leaf was found in a newspaper Mary had been carrying.

And lastly, we talk about the case of Jennifer Fairgate of Norway. This Doe brings us to another hotel called the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel. Somehow, Jennifer managed to book a 3 night stay without showing ID or paying upfront. After realizing Jennifer never paid for her room, a hotel employee went to speak with her only to hear a gunshot. After alerting their manager and breaking into the room, they found Jennifer dead with a bullet wound to her head. It looked like she committed suicide, but some things didn't add up. Jennifer's belongings (like a suitcase full of bullets??) and behavior leading up to her death has left people wondering if Jennifer could have been some sort of spy. A man who stayed in the room across from Jennifer did an interview and made a major red flag of a mistake leaving us to wonder if Jennifer was murdered.

We also talk about how it's pretty much always a bad sign when a hotel room door is dead bolted, how all of these cases could have been solved if they happened today, and what we think may have happened to each doe.
