A tale as old as time: an ordinary girl meets a dashing prince, and though all young maidens in the land pine for his hand, he only has eyes for her. Well, this was the plot of a young Kate Middleton’s middle school play; unaware she’d grow up to one day live out a real-life fairytale. Was it written in the stars? Was real life just as much of a storybook?
We’re going back to 2001, when Prince William first laid eyes on the beautiful, yet unassuming brunette in the dorms at the University of St. Andrew’s. Part 1 is all about their university days and early 20s, filled with surprisingly relatable experiences—playing drinking games, dealing with jealousy, and facing the uncertainty of post-graduation life. While this episode is dedicated entirely to their courtship, complicated by the mounting media attention and pressures from the palace—stay tuned for Part 2, where we will continue with their married life.

In March 2010, Nina Dobrev sat down and told Seventeen Magazine that she would NEVER date one of her Vampire Diaries costars. But less than two months later, she was spotted getting cozy with Ian Somerhalder court side at a basketball game. What changed? Did Somerhalder’s smoldering good looks finally get to her? If so, what happened to his girlfriend?
To quote Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder themselves: “We started dating on the show. And then we started dating in real life. And then we broke up in real life. And yet our characters are still dating on the show. It’s a good thing it’s not awkward.”
Or was it?
On this week’s episode, we dive headfirst into the early 2010s to explore the real life relationship behind the popular TV couple of Damon and Elena and figure out what really happened. Did Niki Reed steal Ian from Nina? Was the age gap to blame? Was there awkwardness on set? Listen and find out!

Because during their marriage, they were long distance for ELEVEN YEARS!!

Their affair turned into a beloved country music couple, reminiscent of the iconic likes of Johnny & June and Faith & Tim. On their Oklahoma farm with seven dogs, Miranda and Blake dreamed of drinking, hunting, and singing together ‘til they kicked the bucket.
But alas, their marriage seemed to head South after Blake headed West for “The Voice.” After years of Miranda declaring that divorce was not an option, the couple sadly called it quits in 2015. The tabloids blamed adultery, jealousy and trust issues that arose once Blake began kicking it with folks in LA (including you, Adam Levine). We're delving into those rumors, dissecting song lyrics, and more.

Today, we know Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach as the powerhouse writer-director couple that brought us movies like ‘Frances Ha,’ ‘Lady Bird,’ ‘Marriage Story,’ ‘Little Women (2019)’, and yes, ‘Barbie.’
But when this duo first met, Greta was a little-known actress from the mumblecore indie film scene. Fourteen years her senior, Noah was married to actress Jennifer Jason Lee. Greta landed a role in Noah’s film “Greenberg,” which he had co-written with his wife. So it raised some eyebrows when, a year or so later, Noah Baumbach’s marriage dissolved and he started dating this intelligent young artist, Greta Gerwig.
Join us as we explore Noah and Greta’s real-life marriage story from then til now…featuring some unpopular opinions about certain movies (don’t hurt us!!).

“My mouth hasn’t shut up about you since you kissed it. The idea that you may kiss it again is stuck in my brain, which hasn’t stopped thinking about you since, well, before any kiss.”
So begins the infamous love letter written by Alex Turner to Alexa Chung in 2008. Somehow this letter made its way online (Tumblr) and into the hearts of teenage girls forever (Kelly included). The letter has become a symbol of their love story ever since, but where did it come from? Why was it on Tumblr? Was it even real??

GMA co-hosts and self-proclaimed “best friends,” Amy Robach and TJ Holmes frequently double dated with their respective spouses as gossip spread at ABC studios about their chemistry. Then in December 2022, the Daily Mail released dozens of damning PDA-fueled paparazzi shots, seemingly exposing a newsworthy affair. We’re headed back to 2018. Summertime. Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson’s relationship accelerated faster than the earth’s rising temperatures. Initial tabloid reports of a “casual connection” between the pop star and SNL comic were met with mild amusement and surprise over their unlikely pairing. You might think a romance from the 1700s will be stiff and boring. But this episode is so raunchy, so TMI, we’re going to need an explicit label!
King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette of France had an arranged marriage and famously, uh, experienced trouble in the bedroom. Which makes us wonder: can you fall in love with anyone if you set your heart on it? And if you’re really not into your spouse, could you still sleep with them to produce an heir?

They were the ultimate power couple of the early 2000s, publicly sharing their engagement, home renovation updates, playful arguments and plans for a family in a way that made the masses feel close to them. But in 2004, their apparent openness only made the world more shocked and devastated when Brad abruptly left Jen and started a family with Angelina Jolie.
In this episode, we look back at the early days of their relationship up through their shocking separation statement issued on the last day of a romantic getaway. We talk Jen’s healing after the breakup before continuing with Brad and Angelina’s story in next week’s episode.

So who is inspiring these melancholy tunes?? If you go back to Lana’s “Born to Die” and “Ultraviolence” days, she was with the Scottish musician Barrie-James O’Neill for three years.
Lana and Barrie were like a modern-day Bob Dylan and Joan Baez, making songs and homemade music videos together. And the darkness Lana saw in herself, she saw in Barrie too. But eventually it became too dark for even her, and she blindsided Barrie at the end of their relationship.
Kel and Mel have been fans of Lana for YEARS (even made a homemade “Dark Paradise” video back in high school). Let us take you through Lana’s song catalog as we reminisce on her “Living Legend” Barrie.

Where did we leave off? Last we saw them, Zelda had an affair with a French aviator, and Scott said their marriage would “never be the same.”
He was correct, as their relationship took dark turns for the worse. Scott befriended Ernest Hemingway in Paris, who told him “Zelda just wants to destroy you.” Zelda’s mental health deteriorated as she and Scott fought, and she entered many mental institutions in the following years.
Yet even while Scott and Zelda became separated over time, they still wrote heartfelt letters to each other for the rest of their lives. Their relationship was far from perfect, but it’s still a love story influencing pop culture, literature (and now us!) to this day.

Meanwhile, other fans have been critical of the "parasocial fixation" on their relationship when we "don't know the full story." While we'll never know all the facts, Mel breaks down their public relationship timeline to piece together what happened. We also analyze Anna's heartbreaking photography ("Rooms in the First House") and theorize why this breakup may connect to others.
