On this episode of Game Pass or Pass, we dive into Eternal Strands, the new open-world action-adventure from Yellow Brick Games. Inspired by giants like Shadow of the Colossus and Breath of the Wild, Eternal Strands aims big with physics-based combat, elemental manipulation, and full climbing mechanics. But does it deliver on that promise?
Well… not exactly.
There’s no denying that Eternal Strands has a lot of great ideas. The ability to interact with the world using fire, ice, and telekinesis makes for some cool moments. The combat is flashy, the creatures are huge, and the world is expansive. But after spending time with it, we couldn’t shake the feeling that Eternal Strands is a game that tries to do everything—but never fully develops anything.
The climbing is there, but lacks the satisfying challenge of Breath of the Wild. The combat looks cool, but never really evolves beyond flashy moves that lack impact. The world is big, but feels empty and aimless. It’s as if the game has all the right ingredients, but the dish just doesn’t come together in the end.
So, is Eternal Strands worth your time, or is it another case of a game being too ambitious for its own good? Tune in to find out if this one is a Game Pass… or a Pass.
Ninja Gaiden Black set the standard for high-speed, brutally challenging action games, but Ninja Gaiden 2 Black aimed to take things even further with more weapons, bigger enemies, and an overhauled combat system. But does this sequel refine the formula, or does it stumble under the weight of its own ambitions?
In this episode, we break down how Ninja Gaiden 2 Black compares to its legendary predecessor. The combat is faster and bloodier than ever, with a limb dismemberment system that changes how fights play out, forcing you to adjust tactics on the fly. The visuals have seen a clear upgrade, with improved animations and larger environments, but at what cost? The game pushes its engine to the limit, and with that comes some performance struggles and occasional janky camera angles that make certain fights more frustrating than they should be.
We also discuss the changes in level design, enemy variety, and difficulty balancing—does Ninja Gaiden 2 Black feel fair, or does it veer into cheap territory? And of course, the biggest question: is this still a must-play today, or does the original Ninja Gaiden Black still reign supreme?
Join us as we slash through the highs and lows of this action-packed sequel and decide—should you pass, or is this still worth a run?
This week on Game Pass or Pass, we take a frosty dive into the deck-building, roguelike adventure of Wildfrost! Join us as we explore the game's strategy, progression, and replayability to determine if this icy adventure is worth your time—or better left buried under the snow. Tune in to find out if Wildfrost earns its place on Game Pass, or if it’s a hard pass!

Planet of Lana takes inspiration from games like Limbo and Inside. These puzzle walking sims are not for everyone but Cory and Basher can't agree on if you should play Planet of Lana. The puzzle are simple, the art isn't complex but the presentation resonated with Cory. Basher disagrees and thinks there isn't a story here and the art isn't enough to carry it past the finish line. With a run time of 3-4 hours there is still debate on if Planet of Lana is worth your time.

Halo Infinite has arrived after a lengthy delay which elongated a very lengthy development cycle. Now with an open world built into the design of the Halo you now and love, comes Master Cheifs biggest adventure yet.
New enemies, weapons, story elements and more await players as they jump into Zeta Halo. With Halo 5 leaving such a sour taste in players mouths Halo Infinite has a lot to prove from not only a game play perspective but a story perspective as well. What is Cortana up to? Who is Atriox and what is his motivation? Who is this new AI that look exactly like Cortana?
All these questions and more are answered on this Spoilercast for Halo Infinite.

Halo 5 is a perplexing game. It feels as if it was chasing the trends of the FPS genre but somehow still feels like 343 was trying to evolve Halo past it roots. Creating new dynamics in an IP is a scary and daunting task. It takes a lot of trial and error as well as creative minds to evolve while also not destroying the past.
Halo 5 is an example of how not to accomplish that goal. The campaign is one that feels like its barely held together. Mixing bad and obtuse story telling with new characters nobody asked for or are interested in seeing ever again. Game play that feels like its evolving what you know and love but placing you in lackluster environments that fail to take advantage of new core designs when fighting boring enemies.
Dude, what the hell happened?

Halo 4 was the first game in the Halo franchise that didn't come from Bungee. In many ways you can tell from the moment you start controlling Chief in the campaign. Its a tighter experience with less of the grand open levels and a focus on story that goes deeper into characters than before. With new enemies to shoot, new abilities to master and a love story at its heart, Halo 4 cemented itself as the most debated Halo game in the franchise.

Call of Duty: Vanguard might be set in WW2 but it certainly doesn't feel like it. Compared to the last game in the WW2 setting, simply titled Call of Duty WW2, Vanguard is more of the fast paced action from Modern Warfare with a World War II skin. However, that really isn't a bad thing. Vanguard features the best aspects of the modern games, like the fast pacing and tight controls, without falling into that older pacing and movement of the era.
Featuring an addicting multiplayer filled with plenty of map and a campaign that has some issues but ultimately is totally worth a playthrough, Vanguard is a surpassingly solid Call of Duty. If you are here for zombies however, look away now.

Back 4 Blood is not so secretly Left 4 Dead 3. We know it, they know it, everyone knows it. The question is, can the team that originally created Left 4 Dead bounce back after Evolve fell short in many ways. Its been years and years without new Left 4 Dead content but the sequel is basically finally here.
Turtle Rock Studios has a lot of good ideas but seems to have trouble making the final product gel together. Back 4 Blood falls into this category and finds itself sandwiched between what made Left 4 Dead great and being bogged down by modern trends in the gaming landscape. Filled with card systems a campaign that can't be progressed solo, and special ridden that don't feel all that special, this is a game that feels like it needed more time in the oven.

Halo 3: ODST started out as Halo Recon, an expansion to the Xbox 360 classic, Halo 3. From the start it was known it was going to be something different but in terms of what that meant wasn't fully realized until it finally hit store shelves. Instead of a bombastic high octane thriller with Master Chief, Halo 3 ODST was a much more somber approach to its story and world and doesn't feature Master Chief in any capacity. Its still filled with action and warthogs but how it plays out is quite different.
But is different always better? That's the question we ask as we blast into Halo 3 ODST years after its initial release. Hot on the heels of Maser Chief's boots before Halo Infinite.

Game Pass or Pass has been a fun time so far. But as games have become larger than ever and Game Pass Securing more and more content its becoming really hard for us to get content out in a timely manner. With smaller games its easy to find time to get a good grasp of how we feel. But with larger games it can take a couple weeks to fully understand how we feel about it.
With that in mind we have decided to start adding some new content to the feed that stays in spirit with the show.
We will be adding 2 new types of episodes that are different from the format. We will be adding more opinion based episodes that still pertain to Game Pass that focus on things like the market in which Game Pass in Effecting and things like Quality Control in the library.
We will also be adding some episodes on a less frequent basis that are in the same Spirit and Game Pass or Pass but focuses on movies. Years ago before Covid we had the idea of a sister show called, Movie Pass or Pass. As this was the height of the Movie Pass era that died a very public death, it made sense then. But now with Movie Pass dead and buried it didn't make sense to make a whole show. We see a lot of movies an sometimes we do a lot of pre-show ramble about movies' in general so we figured why not record it and offer it as a bonus episode.
In terms of frequency, we will mot be adding these new types of episode's at a high rate. They will be supplemental to the GPOP lineup which still remains our focus. Sometimes there might be more to talk about so the frequency could pick up, but there will be other times we might not have much to say or there could be a lack of new topics.
As always please let us know your feedback at [email protected] or call and leave us a voicemail: (574) 651-9256

The Artful Escape can be described as truly unique, which is a term that is used far too often in the gaming sphere. But in the case of The Artful Escape its true. That doesn't mean it is without its flaws. The journey of the Artful Escape is one that is filled with self discovery but friendship and intergalactic adventures as well. Its a story that many people can relate to but also is told in a way that anyone can sympathize with
The problem for some might be that along that journey are mostly experiencing it and not playing it. There isn't a ton of game play in The Artful Escape and the game play that is there is not very challenging or engaging. It really is a story that is meant to be experienced rather than played. But that doesn't stop it from standing out.

Psychonauts 2 is game that many gamers have been waiting over a decade for. But it doesn't take long for the player realize that Double Fine loved the first game just as much as the fans and set out to make a sequel not only would the fans love but that the team would have a wonderful time making the game as well.

Being stick in a time loop while trying to unravel a mystery is an idea that almost anyone who likes the mystery genre can get behind. But a compelling narrative and concept is not all you need to make a fun game. You have to execute on the gameplay and the story concepts need to conclude in a satisfying way and that is were 12 Minutes is up for debate on if it sticks the landing.

The Ascent looks to mix up Twin Stick action with RPG mechanics in a Cyberpunk world that is far more realized than a certain other now infamous game with the name Cyberpunk in the title. Combing elements of long time favorite action RPG franchises like Diablo with these elements is a risky venture. The Ascent takes place is a world that feels like it was carefully crafted to fit into the Cyberpunk aesthetic but perhaps spent a bit too much time looking pretty rather than playing well.

Steep is a Ubisoft game through and through. That means that the vomiting of icons and activities all over a map screen is here with all of pros and cons. But in a game like Steep, which tasks the player with conquering a mountain on snowboards skis and other extreme winter sports activities, it actually makes sense to give the players hundreds of activities to keep them engaged. The problem then becomes if the missions at play are engaging enough to keep the player going as they level. Does Steep conquer the climb or fall flat on its face?

The Evil Within 2 was a title that is just as divisive as the original Evil Within. The original launched with a ton of issues and bugs combined with a weird aspect ratio that was originally rectified. But the original game felt like a Miakmi game through and through. The Evil Within 2 shares the name with the original but is a more focused action game with horror roots. With very different mechanics and design philosophy, does the Evil Within 2 have enough to make it a recommendation on Xbox Game Pass.

When people describe games as "old school" it usually means that there is something design wise that calls back to former glory, but in the case of Operencia: The Stolen Sun, the word Old School probably doesn't do it justice. Calling back to old dungeon crawlers like Eye of the Beholder and creating an homage to games of that kind is all about what Operneica does. When it comes to nostalgia and games it can be a hard thing to nail. Enter The Messenger. The first game from developer Sabotage Studio. Not only is this game a great callback to games like Ninja Gaiden on the NES, but The Messenger is also a fantastic sidescrolling action game that mixes things up in ways the player just doesn't see coming. The music is fantastic, the game play is engaging, and the story will keep you laughing. This is a game you should pass on to your friends.
