Despite theo first Hellboy underperforming at the box office home DVD sales meant a sequel still moved forward resulting in Hellboy 2: The Golden Army in 2008. And the result is a film that's bigger, funnier and with more golden armies than ever. With Ron Pearlman, Doug Jones and Guillermo del Toro firing on all cylinders it's not wonder people are still asking for the sequel that will never come. In 2004 Guillermo Del Toro brought us the cinematic introduction of Hellboy, a demonic entity summonded from hell but who fights for the forces of good. Played pitch perfectly by Rob Pearlman and joined by the likes of Doug Jones as Abe Sapien and Selma Blair as Liz Sherman the first movie deals with stopping the Nazi's (lead by Rasputin) from opening a portal into another dimension to bring forth Ogdru Jahad, a cthulhu like squid monster. What started as a fairly simple slasher premise (robot gets sent back from the future to kill the mother of the future saviour of mankind but also she gets sent a human protector whom also happens to be the childs father) very quickly evolved into one of the biggest action movies of all time. Terminator 2: Judgment Day has both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton return as the T-800 and Sarah Connor in a race to prevent the future war and protect John Connor from the T-1000, a mimetic polyalloy machine, aided by ground breaking abilities/special effects. Great movie. No notes

The Terminator 1984 is an absolute all out sci-fi action classic. The brainchild of director James Cameron and producer Gale Anne Hurd it introduced the world to the titular Terminator as played by then rising star Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton's Sarah Connor the mother of future savior John Connor along with Michael Biehn as Kyle Reece a soldier sent back through time to protect Sarah. Essentially an extremely well executed slasher movie it holds up extremely well some four decades later and kicked off a franchise that like the Terminator itself refuses to die. It's time to wrap up the Ellen Ripley Alien film series with a look at what's probably the weakest entry, Alien: Resurrection. Set two hundred years after the last and bring back Sigourney Weaver as a clone of the original Ripley it has all the thrills and chills of the best Alien movies but not as good. Sure there's some fun stuff in it like breath verification and a basketball shot people won't shut up about but other stuff like the xenomorphy/human hybrid just fall flat. Opinions of Alien 3 are certainly divided. Off the back of the terrific first two entries expectations were high for the return of Ellen Ripley, Hicks and Newt but things didn't exactly turn out well for 66% of those characters. Taking things back to the single monster scare of Alien 1979 David Fincher does his best to elevate the story whilst constantly wrestling with the studio with what resulted in a movie he still very much hates to this day. There are very few sequels that are able to match the original or potentially surpass it. James Cameron's Aliens is one of those films. Arriving in 1986 seven years after the last it marks the return of Sigorney Weavers Ellen Ripley whom is awoken from cryosleep 57 years after the events of Alien 1979. Great movies and good vibes. Alien 1979 is a beautiful combination of sci-fi and horror which has rarely been replicated since. With Ridley Scott's direction, HR Giger's unique visual design, unsettling special effects, tight script and a unique exploration of both alien life and artificial intelligence it's no wonder it went to spawn multiple sequels, prequels and spin offs. We're finishing off the Wolverine Trilogy with what's considered it's strongest entry, Logan. A reflection on aging, loss, grief, parenthood and what it means to stab a bunch of people with your clone daughter. Terrific performances all round and an incredible ending to Hugh Jackman's tenure as the titular character. It's a shame we'll never see him again because he died. In 2010 we got the second live action Mark Millar comic adaptation in Kick-Ass. Set in the "real world" where superheros only exist in fiction it follows Dave Lizewski as the first person to done a costume and fight crime. 2014 saw the release of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, set 15 years after the previous movie kicked off the ape-pocalypse. Caesar and friends have set themself up a nice little comminity in the forest separate from the old world until a bunch of humans come knocking setting both person and ape against one another. Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior allowed director George Miller to take the concepts and character from the 1979 original and really put the boot in. That meant a bigger myth, bigger stunts, bigger men, more butts cut out of leather trousers. And the result was a lot of the iconic imagery we know of the character even today. We're going back to where it all began, the original King Kong movie from 1933. It's influence is still felt to this very day with it's unique story, amazing use of stop motion coupled with rear projection and a symphonic score to accompany the iconic imagery. It seems unlikely that the creators behind the 1954 original Japanese Godzilla movie could anticipated it not only remaining culturally relevant at least 70 years but also would eventually feature Godzilla and King King (sans metal gauntlet) travelling into the hollow earth to fight a race of giant orang utans or whatever happens in Godzilla V Kong. In 2005 we finally were treated to a follow up to The Mask Of Zorro with The Legend Of Zorro. Antonio Banderas is back as Alejandro de la Vega along with Catherine Zeta Jones this time going up against Rufus Sewell. After the cinematic lows of The Amazing Spider-Man series it was time for another Spider-Man reboot, this time by folding him into the MCU. After his first apperance as Peter Park in Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland got his own (sort of) movie dealing with the trials and tribulations of being a high school superhero. Going up against Michael Keaton's Vulture and his terrible surrogate dad in Tony Stark/Iron Man the film did a great job at youthifying the franchise and taking the character in a new direction. Godzilla 2014 managed to kick off a new era of monster movies, now titles the Monsterverse. Directed by Gareth Edwards of Rogue One/The Creator fame it became the latest americanized attempt to revamp Godzilla for the west after the disater that was Godzilla 1998. Whilst it might not be everyones cup of tea we thought it was pretty good with the inclusion of Bryan Cranston, new creatures in the form of the Muto's and the biggest Godzilla we had every seen. Great news. We're finally at the end of The Hunger Games trilogy and by that I mean the second part of the third movie. Because Harry Potter split it's last book into two movies and it worked really one that one time a decision was made to take the weakest book in The Hunger Games franchises, Mockingjay and do the same. After the huge success of the first Hunger Games an adaptation of the sequel book was inevitable. So a year later in 2013 Jennifer Lawrence returns as Katniss Everdeen in a bigger budgeted follow up that asks the question, what if Hunger Games but more? With great new inclusion like Phillip Seymor Hoffman and...I dunno a poison fog or whatever this entry turned out to be the biggest box office return for the series before the decline. In the early 2010's every single dystopian young adult fantasy novel got a chance at a movie adaptation. Most either bombed at the box office or experienced a mild success before completely disappearing. One of the rare exceptions was The Hunger Games series, which exploded into cinemas in 2012 bringing Jennifer Lawrence mainsteam success. The concept is simple. By day, good time millionaire playboy. By night, a guy with a hat and a bandana and a prosthetic nose with vague mystical powers which he uses to fight crime. Anyways it bombed. Before Captain America: The First Avengers director Joe Johnston brought us The Rocketeer. Second in our series of pulpy/throwback comic back adaptations (that failed) this adaptation takes us back to the 1930s, an era with rocket powered heros, thin moustachioed villians and swashbuckling action. Intended to kick off a new Indiana Jones styled adventure series it fell short of Disney's expectations and is largely forgotten despite being quite a fun ride. In 2014 the most powerful people on earth (Hollywood) decided to bless us all with a reboot of the original RoboCop. Taking some cues for the 1987 classic it brough Joel Kinnerman into the title role of Alex Murphy in a effort to again revamp the classic series. With a steller cast including Michael Keaton, Michael K Williams, Jack Earl Haley, Abbie Cornish, Sam Jackson it certainly tries some things but ultimately comes out feeling rather toothless. By RoboCop 3 the good people at Orion knew what kind of audience the franchise solely appealed to, children. This obviously wasn't true but for this final entry in the original RoboCop saga things take a PG turn with toned down violence, satire and the disapperence of Peter Weller for Robert John Burke. RoboCop 2 was inevitable after the succcess of the original. And you know what? It could have been much worse. With a more compotent cyborg enemy, some solid comedic moments and Peter Weller being at the top of his game in terms of RoboCop sequels this remains the best case scenario despite some obvious shortcomings. The original RoboCop from 1987 is incredible. Directed by Paul Verhoeven and starring Peter Weller as the titular RoboCop/Alex Murphy it remains one of the best sci-fi films of all time. With its retro futuristic, satirical and hyper-violent aesthetic it truly is a one of a kind experience that will never be replicated. Despite RoboCop 2, RoboCop 3, the 2014 reboot, the two tv series, multiple games and upcoming legacy sequel. Thanks for watching!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 turned out to be the biggest box office hit from the length of the franchise so naturally the green light was given to it's 2016 sequel. This time we get all the things kids loved from the 1987 series, Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady, the Technodrome, Casey Jones and more! But it didn't land in the same way as the first. In 2014 off the success of the Transformers franchise, Paramount and Nicolodeon decided to give him a shot at (producing) a brand new set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies. This time adopting motion capture technology which allowed them to pay the actors next to nothing along with Megan Fox as April O'Niel this adventure is like nothing you've seen before! The Barbie movie could very well herald in a new era of toys to movie adaptations. But it is far from Mattels first attempt as there first swing was 1987's Masters Of The Universe featuring Dolph Lundgren as the titual He-Man. Opening with Skeletor now in posession of Castle Grayskull things have never looked worse for Eternia which is the perfect time He-Man and friends to take a trip to New Jersey.
