148 - Robert Sciglimpaglia :: A Voice of Reason

Robert J. Sciglimpaglia, Jr. is an award winning actor, producer, best selling author, and attorney in the fields of entertainment, copyright/trademark, personal injury, and real estate law.

After 15 years as a successful Certified Worker?s Compensation Specialist and attorney in areas of personal injury, real estate and entertainment/copyright law/trademark law, while flipping through an Adult Education magazine, Robert stumbled across an advertisement for a voice-over acting course. Having always been intrigued by acting, and driven by curiosity, Robert decided to enroll in the course. At this time, websites advertising voice-acting gigs were just beginning to pop-up so voice artists could easily audition and do voice over jobs from home, and Robert found it easy to find work.

He landed his first voice-over gig working with PBS, in "American Experience: Hijacked!". He quickly began to be offered more work and was afforded the opportunity to work with some of Hollywood's biggest companies and stars, such as "Music and Lyrics", his first film, and Disney's "Enchanted". In 2012, he starred in the Super Bowl's viral Chevy commercial, "Happy Grad" which has been featured every year since on CBS's "Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials." The same year, after receiving questions from other aspiring voice over actors all over the world, he decided to combine his law background and voice-acting experience and wrote his first book, "Voice Over Legal". The book covers all the legal aspects of becoming a voice-actor, from starting a business and establishing an LLC, to the proper contracts required to work as a voice actor. It also covers some of the basics of the business like agents and Performance Unions, such as SAG-AFTRA. Just two years later, his book was the #1 best-seller in Amazon's entertainment law category.

Today, Robert has a production company, Belair Productions, that has three short films that have brought home a combined 75 awards (and counting), which are running the festival circuit and are available for streaming on Amazon Prime and other platforms. Robert has appeared in off Broadway productions, on National Television and in major feature films many times.

147 - Nick Buda - Fast Cars and Family

Nick's experience in playing and recording music goes back to his freshman year in high school, where he played in a popular band that had a single on college radio. This led to his first major industry gig with Mac Gayden (co-wrote iconic hit "Everlasting Love") while still in high school.

Within a few months of being out on the road, Nick moved to Boston where he attended the Berklee College of Music and got to see what real playing was all about. With his ego immediately put in check and his head full of new musical ideas , he got the gig with Col. Bruce Hampton and the Codetalkers, which was a band he had loved to play along to in high school. During this time, Nick got to play with so many of the amazing musicians he had only heard in his headphones such as Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Bob Wier, and the late great Richie Hayward (from Little Feat) who joined Nick multiple times for some unforgettable double drumset gigs.

Upon moving back to Nashville in 2002, Nick picked up right where he left off, when he was asked to play with Cyndi Thompson, starting another new chapter in his career. It was the first of many tours that would follow with such diverse artists as Edwin McCain, Hank Williams Jr., Jedd Hughes, Maia Sharp, Emily West, and many others. Playing with these various artists has led to performing at so many great iconic venues such as the Grand Ole Opry along with TV appearances on many of the late night and daytime talk shows. It also led to a whole new side of Nick's career as a session drummer.

Nick's unique drumming style combines his delicate touch with a soulful r&b backbeat and an explosive energy, which adds depth and excitement to his tracks. He's never afraid to take chances with music, which sets him apart as a player. His unmistakeable style infiltrates both live and studio settings putting him in high demand amongst the Music Row elite.

His playing is featured on country/pop sensation Taylor Swift's first 5 multi-platinum albums. This includes "Fearless", which won many Grammy's including Album Of The Year. Other artists Nick has recorded with include: Richard Marx, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Kenny Loggins, Lady Antebellum, Martina McBride and Randy Houser to name a few.

Nick?s playing style has already helped influence a new sound in Nashville, and his diverse track record is continually expanding in various directions, but the wooden spoons now stay in the kitchen.

Ep 144 - Jack Bruno :: Less Is More, More Longevity In Your Career

Drummer Jack Bruno grew up in a family of professional and amateur musicians, and recalls a childhood of ?records playing all the time. Singing, accordions, food, wine?? He began playing drums in his uncle?s band, and later took any and all gigs that came his way, ?from bah mitzvahs to strip joints.? By the age of 17, Jack and some Boston friends had formed the Applepie Motherhood Band (part of the psychedelic ?Boss-town? sound that record companies were trying to push at the time), which released two albums in the late 1960s.

By 1981, Jack had begun playing and recording with Tina Turner, and met Elton?s band when the two acts were in Brunei for the 21st birthday of the prince?s daughter. He had also played in an LA band with Guy Babylon and knew Bob Birch from the session circuit.

So when Davey Johnstone called and asked Jack to play on the final leg of The Big Picture tour, Jack jumped at the chance.

After a bit of a trial by fire on the first show in Austin, Texas, Jack enjoyed himself on the rest of the tour. ?Being able to play these songs, especially the older ones I grew up with, with the man that wrote and played them, was amazing every night. It was as good as it gets for a player.? He also added that, ?The respect and treatment from Elton and the whole organization was top class.? Jack had the distinction of playing drums for both Tina Turner and Elton during a couple of shows in 1999: the VH-1 Divas Live concert in April and then their two separate Millennium concerts in Las Vegas on December 30 and 31.

Just after doing The Big Picture tour, Jack got to work with Delbert McClinton for a year, and then did Tina Turner?s tour in 2001. He has also played with acts like Richard Marx and Peter Frampton. Currently Jack lives in Nashville, Tennessee and recently has been out on the road with Joe Cocker, with whom he has played off and on since the 1990s, and backed Tina Turner once again for her 50th Anniversary Tour in 2008-09.

142 - Jerry Gaskill - From Jersey to King's X

Drummer, singer, and songwriter Jerry Gaskill founded the progressive metal band King's X in 1983. A native of Bridgeton, New Jersey, Gaskill began playing at a young age, forming a band with his father and brother and playing his first gig at the age of seven. After playing in bands throughout high school, he became heavily involved in the Christian faith and enrolled at Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri. Not long after arriving in Springfield, he befriended bassist Doug Pinnick and the two formed a sturdy rhythm section, backing up artists like future Petra singer Greg X. Volz and guitarist Phil Keaggy.

After trying out various combos of their own, Gaskill and Pinnick were joined by guitarist Ty Tabor and the trio, then called Sneak Preview, relocated to Houston, Texas. Changing their name to King's X in 1987, they eventually signed with metal label Megaforce and released their debut, Out of the Silent Planet, a year later. A prog trio with a strong melodic bent and elaborate three-part harmonies, King's X have enjoyed a successful career with stints on Atlantic, Metal Blade, and InsideOut Music. Gaskill's contributions as drummer, writer, and occasional lead singer are an integral part of King's X's sound.

In 2004, he released his solo debut, Come Somewhere, which was recorded and produced by bandmate Ty Tabor. In addition to his work with King's XGaskill has contributed to side projects by his two bandmates as well as albums by blues guitarist Jay Hooks and New Jersey songwriter Bob Burger. After suffering a heart attack in early 2012, Gaskill's home was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy later that same year. Waylaid by a second heart attack in 2014, he rallied to release his second solo LP, Love & Scars. The album was released in October 2015 and featured guest spots from Billy SheehanPhil KeaggyEarl Slick, and others.

141 - Trevor Lawrence Jr :: Born of The Supremes to The Superbowl

Trevor Lawrence Jr. was born to Lynda Laurence (formerly of the Supremes) and Trevor Lawrence (Writer/Producer/ Saxophonist). Both of Trevor?s parents were original members of Stevie Wonder?s Wonderland band which brought you: Songs in The Key Of Life, Inner Visions and other Classic American Music History. After Stevie Wonder, Lynda Laurence went on to become a Supreme on Motown. She joined the group when Diana Ross left and Jean Terrell took the lead spot. (Floy Joy)   Trevor comes from a musical family. Trevor?s grandfather Ira Tucker is credited as one of the forefathers of gospel music and has won a Grammy (1974) with the group, which he was with for over 60 years, The Dixie Hummingbirds. Trevor?s aunt Sundray Tucker aka ?aunt Sandra? also sang with Stevie Wonder and countless others including Patti LaBelle.   ?TrevBeats? (a name given to Trevor when he shot the pilot to his cooking & music show Beats & Eats w/ Cedric the Entertainer) began playing the drums at age 2. ?I couldn?t sit and play so I had to stand up for the first couple of years,? says Trev.? Music is all I know, and a little about cooking.?   By the age of 18 and a senior Trevor graduated from Hamilton with two scholarships one from Capitol Records (the Nat King Cole Scholarship) and the other the Lieber and Stoller Award from ASCAP. Trevor attended USC for 2 and half years and then transferred to Cal Arts and then transferred to the real world.   ?The most important thing that happened to me in my first year of college was that producer Greg Porree? (father of Justin poree? of Ozomatli, Trevor used to give Justin Drum lessons) called me for my first real record date with an artist named Vinx on Sting?s Pangea record label. I played on two or three songs and that really changed my life. I decided that I really wanted to get into the art of recording. I started collecting snares and before I really had a set of decent recording drums Harvey Mason used to let me use his drumset to record, which was awesome.?   Trevor went on to record with artists like ?Macy Gray, Boys II Men, Dr. Dre, Peter Himmelman and a host of others before getting a very interesting call. ?One Day I was at my Dad?s studio working with him on a movie(To Sir With Love II with Sidney Portier) and I got a call from at the time A&R at A&m records Junior Regisford I picked up the phone and he said ?Hi Trev hold on someone wants to speak to you? he clicked over and on three-way he had Terri Lewis from Jimmy Jam and Terri Lewis. I nearly fell over. I had played on a record for Jimmy and Terri and they liked it and had a new group coming out named SOLO that was going on tour so in 24 hours I left warm Los Angeles in February and flew to Freezing Minneapolis where I rehearsed and learned about being on the road for the first time. We opened for Michael Bolton in Europe for a month and then we hit America with R. Kelly, LL Cool J and Xscape. It was an introduction to Sheds(large concert venues) crowds, tour busses, and everything I ever dreamed Touring would be.   I worked and worked and tried to build up my body of work and my name and here I am today still learning a lot. In 2004 I went on tour to Europe with Macy Gray, played on Stevie Wonders A Time To Love Album, played on Ashanti?s 3rd album (I also played on her first album) and went To Africa back to back with Stevie wonder and Stanley Clarke a week apart. It?s weird how life is. I have pictures of Stevie holding me as a Baby and I worked with him 30 years later than my parents did.   In 2001 I met super producer 7 Aurelius who is responsible for a great number of hits with artists like Ashanti, JaRule, Eve, and Jennifer Lopez. I worked with 7 for several years and we did Lionel Richie?s album Just For You(2004) together and I co- wrote 4 songs on that one. And 7 is also the reason I met and co-wrote a song on Mariah Carey?s album Charmbracelet. ?We had a Sound? together and also we have a great chemistry in the studio.   After touring the world with Stevie wonder and doing the Live 8 concert for over a Million people in Philadelphia, I continued doing studio work with Scott Storch, Mike Elizondo and many others in Los Angeles. I got a call from a friend of mine, Terrace Martin who put me in touch with Snoop?s camp. I toured the world with Snoop and now my drum kits from those tours are on display at Hard Rock in Las Vegas and India.   In 2008, after Snoop I began doing more session with Dr. Dre. I started with him on and off in ?94 and did SNL with him in ?96 and ?98. Those sessions ended up with me joining the Aftermath Family and Production Team. I went on to have over 30 releases with Dre and we are still working strong today with some great things in store. Along the way I have been fortunate to work with Hans Zimmer on ?Man of Steel? as well as many other Producers on records and Movies like ?American Hustle? and even the most recent ?Halo 5? video game.   I ended up getting involved in the Music Software business with a great company called MVP Loops. We successfully launched several software titles and have many more to come. Now in 2016 I have become co-owner of the Parent Company VIP Loops. The journey has been long and it still feels like it has just begun. I thank all of the companies that support me.?   Some Things That Came Up:   -Filming ?Crossroads? in Nashville   -The Super Bowl Rehearsals   -Playing with Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg   -Picking the kit for the Super Bowl   -Rehearsing at The Hangar in Santa Monica with full production and SoFi   -?Bel-Air? tv show watch party   -Playing/songwriting with Marian Carey, Eminem, Lizzo, Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys, Pati Austin, Quincy Jones, Natasha Bedingfield, Everest, Ashanti, Lionel Richie and many others.   -Relationships in action. 138 - Curtis Stigers :: From the Sax to Sons of Anarchy

Singer, Songwriter, Saxophonist, Bandleader?Curtis Stigers does it all. His new album, This Life will be released on February 25, 2022. ?Keep Me From The Cold? was originally released on Curtis? sophomore album on Arista Records, where he was discovered and signed by legendary producer Clive Davis. It was co-written with Glen Ballard (Grammy-winning writer/producer) and Curtis has said that this is one of the songs that he?s most proud of writing.       It?s been 30 years since Curtis released his eponymous debut album which took the charts by storm and generated the international hits ?I Wonder Why?, ?You?re All that Matters To Me?, and ?Never Saw A Miracle?. For This Life a seasoned Curtis Stigers has revisited these early successes (and a couple of later ones) and put a distinct jazz spin on them. The repertoire includes a new version of Nick Lowe?s ?(What?s So Funny ?Bout) Peace, Love, And Understanding?, which Stigers had recorded in 1992 for the smash hit film soundtrack of The Bodyguard. And there is, of course, also a fresh rendition of ?This Life?, the marvelous Emmy-nominated theme song Curtis co-wrote and recorded in 2008 for the wildly popular TV show Sons Of Anarchy.       Fans of Sons of Anarchy know him well and The Times of London enthuse "Stigers remains one of the most thoughtful and uncategorizable of artists. Armed with a characterful croon, a chiseled jaw and a saxophone..?       Over the course of his career Curtis?s music has been praised by many including The New York Times, The Times of London, The Guardian, The San Francisco Chronicle, Jazz Times, MOJO, and so many more. 131 - Mickey Curry :: Playing for Pesci

Born in 1956 in New Haven, Connecticut, Mickey took up drums when he was 11 and played with local bands.     *******SUBSCRIBE/RATE/REVIEW!!! www.richredmond.com/listen   The Rich Redmond Show is sponsored by: Big Dot Lighting - Commercial LED Lighting Specialists   -and-   Bruce Cline Home Loans & Mortgage Refinance | Movement Mortgage www.musiciansmortgage.com     His early inspirations ranged from Ringo Starr and John Bonham through to Chicago?s Danny Seraphine and - under the influence of his older brothers - the classic R?n?B of Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding and James Brown.   Mickey got serious about drums from the age of 13 when he and two of his brothers formed a school band called The Rack. Later, Mickey went to a state school for music, but the academic route was not for him and he left early to play in bands.   When he was 17 he joined the Scratch Band in Connecticut where he first gained recording experience. Next Mickey started to make the two hour train journey into Manhattan and eventually joined a band called Tom Dicky and the Desires. They were managed by music mogul Tommy Mottola who also managed Hall and Oates - big news in the early 1980s.   Impressed by Mickey, Mottola asked him to record Hall and Oates? new album ?Private Eyes?. Around the same time Mickey met top producer Bob Clearmountain who?d just found a new singer called Bryan Adams. Within months Mickey had recorded Adams? second album ?You Want It You Got It?.   Next thing Mickey?s out on tour with Hall and Oates. All this was in 1981 when Mickey was 25. This was his big-break year and he?s never really looked back. The calls started to come in thick and fast - Tom Waits, Cher, Tina Turner, Los Lobos.   Mickey worked with Hall and Oates through till 1986, since then he?s been Bryan Adams? regular drummer. He says ?I get to sound more like me on Bryan?s records than on anyone else?s?.       He?s also had considerable success recording and touring with The Cult. He played on their 1989 album ?Sonic Temple? which sold three million.   During the period he was playing with Hall & Oates, Curry met producer Bob Clearmountain, who had recently begun working with a young Bryan Adams, and appeared on Adams' second album, You Want It You Got It. His appearance on nearly all of Adams' subsequent albums coincided with his rise to prominence. Following his stint with Hall & Oates, Curry began touring full time with Adams, a collaboration that continues to this day.   Other notable sessions have been with Alice Cooper, Stevie Winwood, David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Carly Simon, T-Bone Burnett and Richard Thompson.   Some Things That Came Up:   -Started playing at 11   -Recording with Hall and Oates and touring with Bryan Adams at age 25   -Meeting Ringo   -Working with Mutt and Bob   -More cowbell   -One handed 16ths   -Playing Yamaha since 1982   -Piccolo snares   -Working with Joe Pesci   -Robert DeNiro story   -Mickey would love to just play in the studio everyday       The Rich Redmond Show is about all things music, motivation and success. 128 - Jon ?Bermuda? Schwartz - A Drumming Chameleon

Jon ?Bermuda? Schwartz - A Drumming Chameleon

Born in Chicago in 1956, drums came into Jon's family from Wm. Ludwig Jr. as a gift to Jon's older brother in return for some advertising work their father did for the drum company. After a family move to Phoenix, Arizona, Jon inherited the kit and began taking formal lessons in 1965. He also listened and played along to the radio hits of the day, as well as albums including everything from Gene Krupa to Elvis, Latin orchestras, and especially the Beatles.

Another family move took the Schwartzes to Los Angeles in 1968, and it was then that Jon decided to be a professional drummer. He continued to take lessons, joined his school's advanced band class and a local junior marching band, and later drummed in a precision marching band where he brushed up on his rudiments.

One such distraction began on September 14, 1980, when Jon was invited by Dr. Demento to be interviewed on his live radio show to talk about the songs he'd submitted years earlier; Jon and his friends were among the first people to have home-made music played on the Dr.'s show at the time. It was there that Jon met "Weird Al" Yankovic, who happened to be answering request lines that night. Already a staple of the Dr. Demento show, the 20-year-old Yankovic played accordion and had been sending his homemade parody tapes to Demento on a regular basis. That night, he would debut his newest parody, Another One Rides The Bus, live on the air. Al asked Jon if he'd mind pounding out a straight beat... on the accordion case! Jon cheerfully agreed, and evidently had a great time:

It wasn't long before permanent bass and guitar players were recruited, and Al's first album was released in May, 1983. Guitar legend Rick Derringer produced Al's first six albums through 1989's UHF Soundtrack, and Al himself took over the production duties starting with 1992's Off The Deep End. To date, Al and the band have released fourteen studio albums, most of them reaching Gold and Platinum status with a few Grammy Awards thrown in for good measure. In 2014, the Mandatory Fun album debuted at #1 on Billboard's Top 200 Album chart! They've toured 3 continents, made videos, and appeared extensively in electronic and print media. Jon is also Al's archivist, assembling an unmatched collection of Weird Al's music and appearances on retail and promo audio and video products from around the World. Assorted memorabilia, tour merchandise, personal items, magazine articles, and more than 100,000 concert, studio, tour, and behind-the-scenes photos round out the archive.

In 1996 Jon left Westwood One, and his fascination with the Internet since 1993 soon led to another pursuit: designing web sites. He'd already developed a site for Weird Al in 1995, and within a few years, business license in hand, Jon sought additional clients, and continues to keep busy on the computer both at home and on the road. In 2020 Jon became a published author with BLACK & WHITE & WEIRD ALL OVER, a coffee-table book featuring his unreleased black-and-white photographs of Weird Al from the early '80s.

There are still gigs and recordings with various local players, but none quite as notorious as Jon's perennial association with Al, which he regards with great pride:

126 - Chad Cromwell :: Lessons from a Lifer

Chad Cromwell was born in Paducah, Kentucky, on June 14th, 1957. When he was three years old his family moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where he grew up. He started playing drums at the age of eight, wearing headphones as he played along to records in an upstairs room of his parents' home. By the age of twelve he was playing in garage bands in the local neighborhood.

Among Chad's early influences were drummer Al Jackson and the artists of Stax Records, and artists such as Al Green on Willie Mitchell's Memphis based label, Hi Records. Jim Stewart, founder of Stax Records, along with Bobby Manuel, started a production company called The Daily Planet after the sale of Stax. Chad "hung out" and subsequently worked for The Daily Planet and learned more about rhythm and recording than anywhere else thus far. In fact, Jim and Bobby were key influences on Chad's style of drumming. In 1975, upon graduating high school, Chad flew to London to join two Memphians who already had gigs. Dave Cochran was playing bass for Chris Spedding, and Robert Johnson (not the legendary) was playing with Jon Entwhistle in Ox. Robert had been offered a record deal with Elton John's label, Rocket Records, and called fellow Memphian, Chad, along with David Cochran to record as Lash LaRue. Chad also got an "education" with Larry Raspberry & The Highsteppers, a very high powered rhythm and blues band. This was his first extensive touring band (piled into the back of a van, pulling a trailer).

Through associations with a recording studio in Memphis, Chad caught an ear on the West Coast. He started playing with legendary guitarist Joe Walsh in 1986, a collaboration which produced two albums, Got Any Gum? and Ordinary Average Guy, and resulted in multiple US and worldwide tours. The following year, 1987, Chad got the call to record with one of the world's most prolific songwriters, Neil Young. These sessions became Neil Young & The Bluenotes. After touring to promote this record, and producing MTV's 'Video of the Year,' "This Note's For You," Neil's interest circled back to 3-piece Rock & Roll which led to the New York and San Francisco recording sessions that ultimately became the album Freedom.

In 1990, Chad moved to Nashville, got married and started a family. Richard Bennett and Tony Brown were among the first producers to call in Chad for sessions in Nashville. Richard and Tony have been extremely helpful in helping Chad to create a very successful recording career. Formal recognition from his peers came in 1996 when Chad was nominated for the Nashville Music Awards as Chad's career has seen him in the studio and on stage/TV/touring with an impressive list of major recording artists. In addition to those already mentioned, Chad has worked with Willie Nelson, Jackson Browne, Boz Scaggs, Wynonna, Bonnie Raitt and Peter Frampton. Chad recorded and toured with Mark Knopfler for the ten years. His playing can be heard on each and every solo recording of Knopfler's including his most recent Shangri La.

During the Summer of 2006, Chad toured with Crosby, Stills,Nash and Young. Chad performed on Neil Young's Heart of Gold Movie directed by Johnathan Demme. Chad spent 2006 recording and touring with Neil Young and CSNY's "Freedom of Speech Tour".

Chad also recorded tracks featured on a new box set release These Days by acclaimed country music star Vince Gill.

Gimme The Beat Documentarians

Erik Gutmanis & Gillian Chandler

Erik Gutmanis:

Erik began playing music at a young age, in Montreal, Canada. He continued with piano before a move to Vancouver Island in his early teens introduced him to drums. The effect was instant and addictive: rhythm moved from a head game to a total body experience. His need to know more led him from Vancouver to Montreal, Toronto, Los Angeles (where he studied at Musician?s Institute), Australia?anywhere he could study, perform or record music. To support his drum habit, he opened a multimedia production studio on Vancouver Island where he produced, recorded and taught musicians and drummers. To convey the amazingly diverse world of rhythm to his students, he began putting together a drum book, but his research into world beats was so compelling he soon began an even more ambitious project: ?Gimme the Beat?, a documentary tracing the origin and development of various rhythms through the passion and performance of master beat makers around the world.

Gillian Chandler:

Gillian Chandler was born and raised on beautiful Vancouver Island. She was dancing, singing, and performing from a young age, and has never had an issue with taking center stage. From starting out in radio and broadcasting, shifting to the world of voice-over, and then accidentally landing on-camera for Gimme the Beat, things have always played out differently than imagined. Good thing she never had a plan to begin with! Along this adventure, Gillian has reached into the hearts and minds behind the artists, musicians, professors, scientists, and cultures she?s been fortunate enough to share space with, and for her, this project can be summed up as drums being the way that souls of all shapes and sizes communicate. She?s proud to help amplify voices that might not always be heard, shine a spotlight on histories that go unmentioned, and connect in an emotional and empathetic way, all while talking about an experience as universal as breathing? Rhythm.

Some Things That Came Up:

-Shooting and gathering footage for 4 years

-Erik is a drummer

-Gil was transitioning into being an imaging producer for radio

-Rhythm is a reminder that we are all connected

-Gil has empathic tendencies which helps her with interviewing

-Erik's production technique is lean and mean

-Using metadata for organization

-It's not a drum doc, it's a people doc about drums

-Stinker interview subjects

-Getting female subjects

-Devoting your time to your passion

-No borders, but roots

He has released a number of solo albums. Among them, EE Ticket (Reprise, 1991), and American Matador (Warner Brothers, 1993), which includes covers of "A Whiter Shade of Pale" and "I Am the Walrus" with guest Ronnie Montrose.

Bonilla currently plays in California Transit Authority,[3] a project led by former Chicago drummer, founding member and Rock n' Roll Hall of Famer Danny Seraphine, featuring some updates to early Chicago songs as well as new material and has currently completed the follow-up album of all original material. He has also produced, co-written and performed with the Keith Emerson Band's new album. In addition, he tours with Eddie Jobson's UZ Project as singer, guitarist and bassist.[4]

Bonilla is originally from the San Francisco Bay area and, along with Joe Satriani, was one of the preeminent rock guitar teachers in the Bay area during the 1980s. Bonilla moved to LA in the early 1990s to work on TV and movie scoring working with James Newton Howard, John Debney, and others, earning an Emmy nomination in 2001. In addition, he had cameo roles in the 1997 television series Nightman about a crime-fighting sax player, for which he was the musical director and acted as a performer (with his band) in several episodes under the alias Marc Bonilla and Dragonchoir. He has done guitars for numerous films such as The Replacements, The Scorpion King, Spider-Man 2, Iron Man 2, Green Lantern, The Bourne Legacy, and composed and performed the music on the hit series, Justified, on FX channel, with keyboardist Steve Porcaro (Toto). He also composed for Comedy Central's The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore. He also lectured at LA's Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT). He now lives in Los Angeles with his wife and son and has recently completed a new ground-breaking album with Keith Emerson titled The Three Fates Project with the Munich Radio Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Terje Mikkelsen and has finished work on an album Beyond The Stars - Keith Emerson with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and also the follow-up long-awaited third guitar instrumental album called Celluloid Debris available exclusively at marcbonillamusic.com. He also currently tours with Harry Shearer (aka Derek Smalls from Spinal Tap) playing guitar, bass and mandolin.

After years of honing her chops and making her name as a force-of-nature vocalist, the Nashville-based singer/songwriter has dreamed up her own unbridled collision of rock-and-roll, soul, folk, funk, and R&B: a fittingly eclectic sound for a musician whose live experience includes opening for Heart and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, touring as direct support for Kelly Clarkson, and sharing the Cayamo Cruise bill with Emmylou Harris and Jason Isbell?all in 2019 alone. Centered on the stunning vocal command she?s revealed in taking the stage at The Grand Ole Opry over 80 times, Have a Seat finds Rose approaching her music with more confidence and clarity of vision than ever, ultimately sharing a selection of songs both timeless and urgent.

For Rose, the charmed experience of recording in Muscle Shoals has catalyzed the start of a thrilling new era in her musical evolution. ?Working with musicians of that caliber and knowing they were giving my music so much attention definitely made me thrive,? she says. ?I felt so safe going deep into the emotional places within the songs, and I think you can feel that love and camaraderie when you listen to the record.? At the same time, Have a Seat is undeniably the sound of an artist fully coming into her own, without concession or compromise. ?I?ve worked in this industry for over a decade, and I feel like I?ve finally carved out a lane that?s genre-bending and all my own,? she says. ?I had to really fight to find that space for myself, and this record is my way of staking my claim.?

Some Things That Came Up:

-Acquiring the Muscle Shoals sound into her music

-Keeping busy during COVID

-the "Have a Seat" album is wanting to be inclusive

-Bucking the system and making music on her own terms

-Her podcast, "Salute the Songbird", celebrates female artists

-Broadway influence with vocals

-Wanting to see Phantom of the Opera on Broadway at age 5

-"What are we fighting for?" performance

-Performing at Bill Murray's Caddyshack reunion charity golf tourney every year

112 - Will Hoge :: Even if it Breaks Your Heart

Born and raised in Tennessee, songwriter Will Hoge made his name honing a blend of soulful Americana and heartland rock & roll. After spending his childhood in the Nashville suburb of Franklin, he left Tennessee to study history at Western Kentucky University. Music drew him back home, however, and he relocated to Nashville to assemble a band that included former Georgia Satellites guitarist Dan Baird. Hoge then cut his teeth on the Southern bar circuit and issued a live release, 1999's All Night Long, before inking a deal with Atlantic Records.

With the label's support, he entered Memphis' famed Ardent Studios to record his official debut, Carousel, with engineer John Hampton (the Replacements, Gin Blossoms). The album was released in 2000, and Blackbird on a Lonely Wire followed in 2003 (albeit without Baird, who'd left due to the band's demanding tour schedule). Record sales were slim, though, and Hoge found himself receiving minimal attention from his label. Requesting release from his contract, Hoge was made a free agent.

Following his departure from the Atlantic roster, Hoge combined a relentless tour schedule with a string of independent releases, from live albums and brief EPs to a full-fledged studio effort (2006's The Man Who Killed Love). Rykodisc took note of Hoge's work, particularly his 200-plus shows per year, and signed the artist. Draw the Curtains, Hoge's fourth studio album and first effort for Rykodisc, was released in October 2007, followed by -- what else? -- an aggressive fall tour. Recording sessions for another record began in 2008, but work was temporarily postponed on August 20th, when a scooter accident left Hoge severely injured. Months of physical therapy followed. Hoge focused on his recovery for the remainder of 2008, eventually returning to the studio project in 2009 and releasing The Wreckage later that year. Hoge put out his seventh studio album, the appropriately titled Number Seven, in September 2011.

He and co-writer Eric Paslay received 2012 Academy of Country Music (ACM), Country Music Association (CMA), and Grammy nominations for Best Country Song for "Even If It Breaks Your Heart," the opening track on the Eli Young Band's album Life at Best. In December of 2012, Hoge released the digital-only EP Modern American Protest Music, which included the songs "Folded Flag" and "Ballad of Trayvon Martin." In October of 2013, Never Give In, his eighth full-length, was released by Cumberland Recordings. The album's first single, "Strong," was tapped by Chevy for its 2014 Silverado pickup truck ad campaign. He followed it in 2015 with the album Small Town Dreams, which landed at number 15 on the country charts.

While touring in support of the record, Hoge hit a career wall. He enjoyed writing songs for others and playing live, but he had fallen out of love with being in a band. What followed was a period of introspection. He let his working group go and took off on a cross-country jaunt playing solo. Reclaiming the joy that inspired him to make music a vocation in the first place, he began writing while traveling. He reentered the studio with an ace cast of studio players and completed Anchors. The self-produced 11-track set was previewed in June 2017 by the single "Little Bit of Rust" (a duet with Sheryl Crow), and followed two weeks later by "Baby's Eyes." The album proper appeared in August from Eldo/Thirty Tigers. Hoge quickly followed Anchors with My American Dream, which appeared in October 2018. 2020's Tiny Little Movies was a thematically and musically diverse LP, including personal numbers about failing romances and broadsides against political and spiritual dishonesty.

A few things that came up:

-How Nashville has changed

-Will is a Nashville native

-"Even if it Breaks your Heart" is his favorite song that he's written

-Zooming co-writing sessions

-Will's series, "How did we end up here?"

-Missing the "hang"

Sucherman attended the Berklee College of Music for one year, then studied privately with Gary Chaffee. In 1988, he moved back to Chicago and became a session drummer. In 1996, he was invited to join a reunion of veteran Chicago rock group Styx when founding member John Panozzo proved too ill to perform with them. Sucherman toured with Styx and first appeared on their live album/video Return to Paradise (1997), then on the studio album Brave New World (1999). Two live albums, Arch Allies: Live at Riverport (with REO Speedwagon) and Styx World: Live 2001, followed. Cyclorama, another studio album, appeared in 2003.

Even while in Styx, Sucherman has found time to do sessions with other musicians, and his drumming can be heard on albums by the Angelic Voices of Faith, Bag It, Bee, Michael Bolton, Jim Brickman, Peter Cetera, the Christianaires, Steve Cole, Brian Culbertson, Tim Cunningham, Bill Dickens, the Falling Wallendas, Dottie Jones, Fareed Haque, Wade Hubbard, Into the Green, Henry Kapono, R. Kelly, Steve Kolander, Danny Kravitz, Donald Malloy, Bob Mamet, Nicholas Markos, Douglas Miller, Taylor Mills, Not the Joneses, Lee Nysted, Billy Ocean, Jim Peterik, Greg Ridley, Kane Roberts, Rochelle, Morty Shallman, Tommy Shaw, Survivor, Joe Lynn Turner, John Wetton, and Brian Wilson. He has performed live with Cole, Culbertson, Dickens, the Falling Wallendas, Haque, Mamet, Wilson, Josie Aiello, Rick Braun, Lionel Cole, Bobby Enriquez, David Hasselhoff, Darryl Jones, Eric Marienthal, Michael McDermott, Spinal Tap, Sandy Torano, Dave Uhrich, and Peter White. In August 2008, Sucherman released an instructional video, Methods & Mechanics -- For Useful Musical Drumming.
