Alicia blocked what she had knitted. She is going to block ones she plans to reknit- just in case they will turn out ok.

Natalie knit cable swatch 14. She really had to focus on tightening her gauge and giving an extra tug the stitch before and after the cross. She is not sold on it being tight enough but she is going to see if what happens during the blocking process. Here is the link to thread on ravelry about 2 references.

How are you organizing your program?

 Master Status (1:48):

Alicia knit swatch 9. She also has a reminder when you are working SSK.

Natalie worked on her binder and organized it. She snagged an idea from Lish when she was visiting Ohio. Hint** Place your swatch in zip lock bags and label them. Then there is no chance of forgetting which swatch is which. She is going to get some help from her friend Mara to identify some of her mystery swatches. Alicia reminded Natalie of some of the resources she used to identify her mystery swatches. Arenda Holladay and Knitting Help.

 

Master Plan (8:04):

Natalie plans to Re-knit the swatches and make sure to put them in the ziploc bags so they are ORGANIZED!! She plans to update more of the notes and start the questions.  She is going to meet up with my friend Maureen to get some advice on her swatches.  Maureen is  currently finishing up her Level 3.  Look forward to an interview on her journey!

Alicia is planning to move forward on swatch 10, 11, and 12. She would like to block and start questions.

Alicia reports her wedding duties are over. She had a wonderful opportunity to make her friend Taylor a cathedral length veil.  She and her husband had a lovely cookout. She is looking forward to a quick Myrtle Beach trip with her friend Sierra.  Let her know of any local yarn shops in the south Myrtle area!

Natalie has been organizing more and more! She still has plans to organize stash but started the culling process.  She attended the Rays Stitch n Pitch. She hung out with friends new and old.  She met a lot of her knitting guild and hopes to attend more often.  If you are local, you should check out the Bay Area Knitting Guild! She reconnected with a LONG time listener Mara.  It was great to talk to a listener and get encouragement to keep going.

This week we ask: As we prepare to head into the fall and start planning out gift knits, how do you pick who and what to knit people?  

Natalie struggles with this one. She notes she has a very large family and it can quickly become overwhelming. She LOVES giving things to people but she says her follow through is rotten.  She plans to knit gifts this year but wants to get organized.

Alicia finds herself over gift knitting. She shares her spread sheet method on how to stay organized with her gift knitting. She also tries to stick to one pattern for multiple people with just changing it up with color options. She also notes that her brother in law, Josh, is one of her more knitworthy gift recipients.

She was inspired from the By the Fibreside Podcast.

Alicia is going to set aside time each week to dedicate to program. She is going to work on program at a minimum of 3 hours per week. She is going to be flexible on the days she works on it. WIth every hour she  will earn a point. Each point will equal $1 for a  sock yarn fund!

They rode ponies, trains, went to the pumpkin patch, and got their faces painted.  The weekends have been filled with lots of family time. They had a shuffleboard party at her sister?s home.

 

On the Road (39:00):

Alicia had the opportunity to go to theHomespun Christmas Tour located in Columbiana, Leetonia, Washingtonville, Lisbon, Salem, New Waterford, OH. Her friend Stacey, freshH20purls, did not realize the adventure they were getting themselves into. Alicia shares her experiences with the adventure. There were 10 stops on the trip and you were to have your brochure stamped at every stop to enter the prize basket at the end. Some of the great stops along the way included Acorn Acres Alpaca Farm. Amazing farm. They explained a little bit why they got into raising Alpacas and Fiber Animals vs. Show Animals. We checked out Candle shops, sewing shops, and the All Good Things Natural Market. She picked up some alpaca silk blend Brown with multi flecks and Ohio State Yarn Alpaca Merino Silk Blend.

Natalie is enjoying outdoor fires, pumpkin rolls, and ?sweather? weather!

Alicia is enjoying warm fuzzy feelings. She is that person that puts their Christmas stuff up before thanksgiving.

Natalie BLOCKED!  She sorted swatches that need to be re-knit and plan to take the ones she blocked to be checked out by some others. She is going to connect with knitters completing the program at her NEW knitting guild meeting!

Alicia finally blocked! She didn?t get to knit swatch 9 and 10 but she has a new found energy for program after blocking. She sorted through swatches and noticed 7 and 8 are a little bigger. She  used the wrong needle size! Here are the resources she used to sort through her mystery swatches. Arenda Holladay, labels her actual swatches. Knitting Help, has a helpful diagram.

Natalie has been sick and the girls have been sick but she is looking on the brightside: life is good.  They?ve been going to parks as a family and walking and playing together and just enjoying each other.

Natalie had to buy a new needle for the stocking. She picked up a needle from Hobby Lobby by Yarnology. She cast on A NEW Family Portrait - A Collection of Three Christmas Stockings byDorene Delaney Giordano pattern and Cascade 220 Sport in Burgundy and Buff. She also cast on cast on a new toe up sock in theGrey Brown Marl Patons Kroy Sock.She worked on some spinning while at the Grand Opening of Stash - A Place for Yarn. She found a bag with a single bobbin mostly full and the rest of the roving all pre-prepped.  It?s Long Dog Handspun a division of Sunshine Knit Designs in the Panda base which is 60% Superwash Merino, 30% bamboo, 10% nylon.

Alicia is selling off wedding items and preparing for the new school year. She has been assigned a new school and is excited for the new adventure. She is busy making items to sell at festival end of the month and is prepping for the 3rd Annual Hand Made Music Extravaganza! She caught her hair on fire at her cousin?s bachelorette luncheon. She also abandoned ship on the ?no-poo? hair routine.

Natalie had a great time at the VIK (Very Important Knitters) party at Stash a place for yarn which was the night before the Grand Opening.  She got to see some old friends, and also got to see the next night when she went down to the Grand Opening to do the spinning demo. The girls have a new school year starting. She is prepping for her surgery. Kenny landed a new job and  she discusses the new family schedule. She shares a sweet story of ?mommy?s treat from Starbucks.?

This week we ask: What kind of projects do you gravitate towards during a stressful time in your life?

Natalie enjoys knitting vanilla socks...the simplier the better.  It?s like her mind is full and can?t focus on concentrating on a pattern but she needs the stress relief of knitting.

Alicia likes to knit socks but something with a pattern to give her mind a break from what is stressing her. If she goes too simple, my mind will race on what?s bothering me.

Episode # 8: Sharing the Love

Natalie and Lish completed swatch 7 and 8. Lish wove in her ends to all swatches. Natalie wove in ends for swatch 7 and 8. Both used the duplicate stitch. They shared some words of wisdom, 1.) label your swatches and 2.) knit a swatch in one sitting

They mentioned Arenda Holladay?s video. Alicia found another video by tottoppers on youtube that uses a contrasting color.

Lish begins weaving in her ends.

 

Master Plan: (7:10)

Alicia and Natalie are going to start answering the questions. They plan to knit swatch 9 and 10. Natalie is going to finish weaving in all of her ends. They are both going to finish blocking swatches 1-10.

Alicia has been working on socks! She has finally caught the sock knitting bug. She is using  Sock Recipe: A good, plain sock by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee and using Knit Picks Stroll Solids, Heathers and Twists in the Blue Yonder colorway. . Natalie also mentions Spring Forward by Linda Welch. Lish also cast on Punkin Hat by Tara Thomsen for the festival. She is continuing to knit up some of her acrylic stash.

Natalie cast on a pair of toe up socks for her June socks in Patons Kroy Socks in Blue Stripped Ragg colorway for her this time. She is about one month behind but she plans to catch up with another pair of toddler socks for July. She cast on toe up using the judy?s magic cast on. She also cast on her christmas stocking using A NEW Family Portrait - A Collection of Three Christmas Stockings by Dorene Delaney Giordano pattern and Cascade 220 Sport in Burgundy and Buff.

 

Dropped stitches: (14:39)

Natalie realized half way down the foot of the sock that it was a couple too many stitches so she decreased down instead of recasting on. She put in waste yarn for afterthought heel and working on the leg of the first sock. Alicia asks the question: Do you make the same mistake on the second sock?

Alicia discovered while sitting on the beach, she lost track of the beginning of the round when starting the decreases for the toe. About midway through the decreases, she caught that the decreases would actually be on the top and bottom of my foot. Rip it Rip it!

The sock toe was looking a little pointy, she thought that would be a dropped stitch but turns out, her feet are sort of pointy!

Alicia shares her experiences with wedding events. She surprised Natalie by walking down the isle with the shawl she knit. Lish shares her honeymoon trip to Punta Cana. She got pretty comfortable knitting on the beach every morning. Natalie mentions the timehop app.

Natalie has been working a lot, hanging with the kids, and  made it to knit night a couple times. They  took a trip to Orlando with the kids and stayed in a hotel for her nephew?s engagement party at his fiance?s families house.

Alicia started a natural hair regimen! She has been wanting to make more things at home. She found her knitting mojo. She made it to knit afternoon with her knitting circle. Natalie has been enjoying watching Sherlock with her husband.

Alicia used the Lavender silk soap for a total body cleanse. The soap immediately feels silky on the skin when wet. It lathers nicely with wash cloth and shower puff. It has a light, clean scent, which is a plus for because she does not like strong scents. The ingredients are all those that can be read and understood. No sulfates which can dry the skin. She stays clear of sulfates in shampoo and other products because she tends to be more dry. She also noticed it does not contain palm oil which the industry has been one of the leading causes of rainforest destruction.

Natalie used the Woodsy Lavender Soap. She mainly wants to put little shaving in her knitting bag. She comments the scent smells amazing.  I used a little on my hands and it felt great.  It wasn?t drying and left my hands soft.

Alicia has survived the end of the year, her students? graduation and went shopping for a mother of the bride dress. Her mom knows to break for yarn shops. Summer is here and she has been going to her nephew?s tball games.

Natalie had her birthday but has been sick. She discussed her adventures with her mother in law, cousins, brother, and dad visiting. She celebrated her dad?s 80th birthday.

Alicia finally finished herBlank CanvasbyYsolda Teaguewith Malabrigo Arroyo in a Prussia Blue colorway. She discusses having difficulty picking up the stitches from the bind off.  She also finished a basic hat using up some of her Vanna?s Choice acrylic stash.

Natalie finishedLala?s Simple Shawlby Laura Linneman aka Lala of the Knitgirlls video podcast in some of her older handspun from Romeldale pin drafted roving from Ozark Carding Mill, LLC.  

She knit three simple preemie hats used well marinated stash yarn, Lorna Laces Sport in the Cubs colorway.  She used this yarn for thesocksshe knit during the week of her wedding. She knit these hats for the charity drive for the Rays Stitch n Pitch which is on June 8th.  They are donating them toAll Children?s Hospital in St. Pete. She also finished the  50 Rows Shawlette by Susan B Anderson in Ella Rae Lace Merino Worsted in purple colorway and then a pink/red colorway. The girls also decided a choking characteristic is not something they want in their hand knits. She also finished spinning Bellatrix yarn from the SW Merino in a red and black coloryway by Abstract Fiber Arts and will be gifting for Jessie TinyAnt.

 

Future Stitches (40:58):

Natalie wants to knit the swatches of the spinning swatches she completed from the black corriedale fleece she bought at SAFF in 2010.  This is for the SPAKAL with the knitmore girls and also Tour de Fleece withTeam Sasquatch. Natalie  explainsTour de Fleece.

Alicia decided she is going to knit the Swivel Pullover by Kerri Blumer published in Interweave Knits Winter 2014. She is going to knit it withDebbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in Emerald Green.

She also discusses an important friendship and offered to knit theChocolate Passion- Jacket with Cables in Alaskaby DROPS design for one of her first friends from Bowling Green, Kelly.

Her mom is giving her some wedding planning pressure and kicked the planning into high gear. She also has been enjoying her nephew?s T-Ball games. Natalie talks about her trip with Kenny to Sebring! She had a lovely mother?s day weekend.  She had a trip to Joann?s, the beach,  and a steak dinner. She took the girls to Disney on ice and she is preparing for the onslaught of people coming next week.

Natalie completed swatches 1, 2, 3 and plans to reknit 3. She used the ribbing technique talked about last week to make sure to tighten yarn between stitches in the moss stitch swatch. She started working on the swatch sheets to put in the binder. Alicia worked on swatch #1. She noticed she still needs work on selvedge ends as well as practice tighten second stitch.

 

Master Plan (6:36):

Our plans is to complete swatches 4, 5, and 6 and Alicia will play catch up. We should consider blocking soon!

Natalie continues to knit away on an ankle sock usingONline Supersocke Cotton Beach Colorcolor #941 improvised pattern and using fish lips kiss heel.  She also spent some time planning her SPAKAL.  She plyed old singles left on Leclerc bobbins blue singles from a batt she carded a long time ago.  Then 2 plyed some cormo singles and some left over brown and cormo together.  She flicked some locks and spun from fold 3 little bobbins and carded some and spun from rolags -2 little bobbins. She also flicked locks and spun from end of lock -one big bobbin. It?s very thin and would be nice for a lace weight.

Natalie picked up an extra stitch somewhere along her lace chart.

Alicia knit a baby hat for baby Camden and shares a story of finishing in a store! Natalie finished Alicia's wedding shawl! Aphrodite by Sivia Harding usingJuniper Moon Farm Findleyin Atmosphere, a lovely pale blue. She used a size 12 crochet hook that was handed down to her by her Aunt . She used size 8 clear crystal beads ordered from beadwrangler beads, kits, & supplies found at 7beads.com. Future stitches (29:04):

The new term is starting starting  for theHarry Potter Knit/Crochet House Cup. GO GRYFFINDOR!  Natalie is spinning a 2 ply dkish weight from some Superwash Merino roving in a black and red colorway from Abstract Fibers and that will represent Bellatrix Lestrange.

She is planning on knittingLaLa?s Simple Shawlby Laura Linnemanfrom theKnitgirllls video podcastfame in some handspun Romaldale she spun from fiber she bought atSAFFin 2010!  This is representingNarcissa MalfoyShe is also planning on knitting 50 row Shawletteby Susan B Anderson, who also has a video podcast through herblog. She is using some silk yarn that was bought for her from a friend on her trip to Barcelona, Spain! Her classes are going to be socks, swatches both knitting for level 1 and spinning, and a premie hat.

 

Alicia plans on knitting Jeremy the Emilien hoodie by Ariane Caron-Lacostefor her 3 month long project. She?d like to knit the French Press Felted Slippers by Melynda Bernardi, and the Swivel Pullover by Kerri Blumer.

 

Simply Selfie (47:50):

Alicia has been busy busy busy with end of the year craziness that the school year brings. She also helped with her nephew?s 5th Lego Party.

Natalie had game night with friends and family. Her friends are pregnant and gave them their baby stuff. She and her family had an Easter egg hunt, lunch with family, green thumb festival, dance recital, and has been prepping for a weekend getaway with her husband.

I don?t have a traditional pet adoption story. My first dog adopted us. My two older sisters and I were outside playing. I was around 1, my sisters were 4 1/2 and 5 1/2. They ran into the house and told mom ?there is a bear outside?. Of course, she asked where I was! Yep, they left me outside with the ?bear?. We adopted the bear, named him Snoopy and he was the BEST dog ever. We suspect he was a black lab mix. We lived on a farm when he found us, so he full adapted to the country living. My grandma would share how she watched us following dad around the farm. The line of people would be dad, my oldest sister, next sister, next sister, a space???..me, followed by Snoopy.

Episode 4 : Sink into our Brains

Natalie and Lish started their program binder. They have started swatch 1, which they cast on together on the SAME day via FaceTime. Natalie teaches Lish the long tail cast on. Lish discusses her strategy to work on swatches. Lish wants the skills to sink into our brains!

Natalie has had to cast on 3 times and discusses what she observed in her knitting. She found a

trick to tighten 2nd knit stitch,Ugly Ribbing videoby Arenda Holladay. She also used Bar Increases in Ribbingby Arenda Holladay to know which increase to use.Tension Problemin Selvedges by Arenda Holladay to try to work out edge stitch. Natalie also found a helpful website to figure out how to increase evenly.

Lish and Natalie will knit swatches 2, 3, and 4 for the next round to catch up. They are going to look at blocking research.
