The infiltration of the Asteri’s crystal palace quickly goes awry when Bryce takes a detour in the archives in search for truth, and Ruhn leaves Hunt to save Agent Daybright from the dungeons. Meanwhile, Tharion escapes the lab in Pangera when he realizes Cormac’s plan to sacrifice himself to kill Pippa Spetsos and thwart the rebel’s and Asteri’s chances of using the mechsuit prototypes. When Ruhn, Bryce, and Hunt are inevitably caught, Lidia Cervos kills the Harpy to save them from her ministrations. Lehabah’s sacrifice allows Bryce the time she needs to kill Micah. But when the Aux don’t come to arrest her for the crime of killing Valbara’s Governor, Bryce is terrified to realize it’s because the Horn has opened portals for the worst demons of the pit to rise up and terrorize Lunathion. While Bryce attempts to help those who are helpless, most of the Aux are stuck following protocol, and only the canine shifters and some of the Viper Queen’s fae guards come to assist her in her attempt to aid the humans of Asphodel Meadows. Conflicted by her swirling emotions, Feyre uses physical training to cope with the things happening in her life that she cannot understand. The morning of the Summer Solstice, Feyre attends Ianthe’s ceremony dressed like a queen and usurps the priestess’s plans to adorn herself with light. The small miracle of Feyre’s solstice blessing from the sun spins the Spring Court into a fervor, and clues from Feyre bring Tamlin to her bedroom, only to find her entangled with Lucien. When Feyre and Lucien again accompany the Hybern Commanders to the wall, Tamlin concedes with idle threats. Their venture to the wall brings Dagdan and Brannagh in contact with Children of the Blessed, and despite Feyre’s warnings to not touch the humans, the outing ends with their deaths.

Following Starfall, Feyre, Rhysand and their friends travel to Lord Devlon’s Illyrian camp.
