After a quick chat about the Royal Family we talk about Ben’s gig up in Norfolk and the highs and lows of our football careers. George updates us on his paradiddles, Ben’s seen some interesting car stickers and finds out what happened to the school psycho. Also send us your questions to ask Ben Alldred from Evans who will be on the show next week. Enjoy!

We have a catch up about our weekend’s gigs where Ben had an unusual stage invader and George was surprised at what song got the crowd going. But before we set off for our gigs Ben went to the Graham Russell Drums Birthday Bash to get his new snare skinned and tuned by another Ben from Evans and George popped round to the new house to grab a choc ice from the outside fridge. We also learn what EMAD and GMAD stand for. Enjoy!

As we settle into our new houses our green fingers have been rummaging round to see what’s what. George had a surprise housemate living in his shed and Ben found some rather interesting items in his new garage. We also chat about band myths, tip runs, the Graham Russell Drums Birthday Bash, learning some My Chemical Romance and Ben has an apology to make. Enjoy!

This week we start off with some correspondence before heading into more tales of Ben’s holiday including trying out the Zildjian Alchem-E at Guitar Centre and picking a new snare from Dan at Daytona Beach Drum Centre. Ben also went to see Enter Shikari and You Me At Six in Orlando, had an eventful ride on Space Mountain and got asked one very important question. Enjoy!

Ben’s back from his holiday! We chat about the few days before departure which included a gig in Wales and the small task of moving house with 5 days notice. After a busy and stressful week it was time to head to Florida and relax, that was until Hurricane Milton, the fifth most intense Atlantic hurricane ever, decided to join the party. Enjoy!

Hallo! On this week’s episode we find out all about George’s recent gig in Switzerland; strict passport control, being taken to a cabin in the woods and apple sauce with pasta. WHAT?! Find out what George makes of the Swiss tax system and why he would never live there, what lessons he learnt about gigging abroad and the horror gig he missed on the Isle of Wight. Genießen!

This week we are joined by the one and only Gabi King! She’s off to Liverpool to do a masterclass at the UK Drum Show this weekend but before she sets off she kindly joined us for a natter. Having been the drummer for Declan McKenna for nearly 8 years she now finds herself touring the world as the percussionist for The 1975. We chat about those years with Declan, making the switch to percussion plus teaching, delivering pizza and what she really thinks of grades. Plenty of great stuff in this episode so get listening! We were up bright and early for this week’s episode (well, early for Ben). George had a busy week gigging; his cajón took centre stage at a corporate event, he nearly got in a fight loading out of a pub and his dream trip to Beaconsfield and Oxford didn’t go to plan. Meanwhile Ben went up to London to look at Batman stuff, witnessed a man mistake a suit carrier for a hi hat and had another bad hogroast. Enjoy!

After some internet issues in Brighton we finally got down to business. On this week’s episode we chat about the gig we did together in Weston-super-Mare where we got to meet the ‘locals’ and lots of lovely farm animals. Ben also had a long drive to London the previous day and George brought his big boy Tama kit out of retirement. We also discuss the new Zildjian headphones, a delicious new Tama finish and Ben’s new Dyson. Enjoy!

Packed lunches and chocolate bars start us off this week before moving on to George’s upcoming gig in Zurich and Ben’s upcoming gig with HYPR. As well as writing charts Ben also got tempted by a new kit once owned by Mark Richardson of Skunk Anansie fame from Graham Russell (lovely bit of Japanese oak). We also chat about the 7th of September, parachuting out of a plane and what we’d do if we were the last humans alive. Enjoy!

Two guys have finally managed to put their drama all behind them and reunite for the people… and Oasis are back together! We chat about their recent reunion announcement and ponder over who the drummer will be. We both had a busy bank holiday weekend of gigging with George playing in a cold cowshed and Ben playing in Horsham town centre. George also went for a few beers in London with a recent guest and someone paid some idiot tax after losing their keys. Enjoy!

We’re also introduced to the term ‘hi hat bark’ and the difference between triple flange and die cast hoops. Ben also recently worked on some new music with former X-Factor finallist Sean Smith and while on a trip to Lego store got distracted and tried out the new Apple Vision Pro. Enjoy!

This week's episode is ‘ablaze’ with banter thanks to our brilliant guest, Jordan Farrugia! After regaling us with a tale of arson and an unusual first date in court, we move on to drumming and Jordan’s career playing for Iranian artist Kamyar for his UK and European shows. We also talk about becoming a Master of Music at the London College of Music, getting to grips with Ableton, working part time, snare drums and the audition process for joining Sonny Tennet’s band. This week we had a lovely chat with Lainey Loops who is the drummer for SNAYX. Lainey gives us all the ups and downs of being in a band from touring with Royal Blood and Billy Talent, playing Download to being stuck on the Autobahn for 7 hours and balancing life on the road with work. Also a fellow non-burper along with George and previous guest James Gillingham, who is also her partner, we discuss splitting her time between Sheffield and Brighton, recent endorsements with Natal and Zildjian and overpaying for a packet of Monster Munch. Having moved down from Yorkshire to London to study at the Royal Academy of Music, Bob decided to take bookings into his own hands and soon started providing musicians for tours, TV appearances and recordings all round the UK and further afield. The Euros are over and whilst we also regularly disappoint the nation, unlike Gareth, we aren’t going anywhere! Ben had a gig down in Cornwall and made a weekend of it and George has been adjusting to electric kits and restaurant gigs. We also talk about being prepared by getting things right at the start to save time and avoid practising wrong. Ben also made more use of the sale at Graham Russell Drums but what did he buy? Enjoy!

This week we are joined by the absolute joy that is Will Daly! He then made the big decision to drum full time, setting up a teaching studio on a farm near his home in Essex alongside playing live for original band Stealing Signs and covers band Winston and the Lads. This week we are joined by the awesome Tom O. Mitchell! Tom and his team at Drumwise, based in Kent, are celebrating 20 years of teaching pupils of all ages and abilities. The studio is kitted out with two Roland VAD kits and also offers students opportunities to record in studios and meet top drummers at the Drumwise clinics. During lockdown, Tom also ran his own series on YouTube interviewing some of the biggest drummers out there and also wrote a book called ‘Find Your Beat’ to help beginners learn the drums with a focus on words and colours instead of traditional scores. Thanks for joining us! There’s lots of great stuff on this week's show including the busiest gig day in May, WhatsApp playing with fire and Ben finally gets his ears moulded. We also talk about how busy Zildjian have been so far this year with not only the return of the Z Customs but this week they seemed to hint that they’re entering the world of the e-kit (and not for the first time it would seem). Welcome to another episode of Drum and Drummer! This week we’re chatting about George’s recent gig with Lennon Taylor where he used his new Gretsch Catalina with a slightly unusual cymbal set up. Ben also talks in detail about his new kit; the Roland VAD504! Having played it at two wedding gigs already, is this the future of live drumming? He’s also paired it with a full set of Yamaha Crosstown hardware to make transport easier (and save his ailing back). There’s also some tennis beef brewing as George preps for his grudge match with a previous guest. Enjoy!

Our wallets have suffered as we’ve both been shopping for new drum gear with Ben getting a new stool, kick pedal, hi hat stand and crash and George picking up a second hand Gretsch Catalina kit. In what now appears to be an Xmas tradition we welcomed back Josh and Elliott but if that wasn’t enough we were also joined by the wonderful Neil Elliott. After some chat about jingle bells, gravity and George’s new Aldi shoes, Josh played the role of Santa delivering presents from his big sack. We then spoke about our highlights of 2023, the state of both live and recorded music in today’s climate and our goals for 2024. Unfortunately we have to start this week's episode with some sad news after the unexpected passing of Ben’s father, Adrian. While the dust settles on a tragic week, George is on hand for some distraction and tells us what he’s been up to and it involves a lot of trips to London! He went to see some gigs, played a Wren show, got his ears cleaned out and had a stint working in the TV side of football! Expect to see us unofficially sponsoring League 2 sometime soon.

We’re back with more chat about our trip to the UK Drum Show in Liverpool. With heads sore and a big breakfast in our bellies we headed to the ACC. After quickly realising drum exhibitions are quite loud we had a wander round and spoke to some familiar faces and BDC offered Ben a deal he couldn’t refuse. We also bumped into Greyson Nekrutman! It was a great experience to go and see what was on offer and also give the podcast some promotion. Enjoy!

We asked them what it was like when we said we wanted to play drums from noise in the house, lifts to gigs, waiting in car parks, watching us play and sending us off to university. We also find out about their musical (and dancing) chops and find out who their favourite delivery companies are along with a great tale involving cheese and the police. Happy New Year and enjoy!

Merry Christmas everyone and welcome to our Xmas episode. For this special occasion we’ve got not one, but TWO guests as we welcome back bassist and legend Josh Rowe and joining us for the first time is our dear friend and musical colleague Elliott Joseph. As well as some Xmas stuff we chat about the Wren gig (which we were all at), a naughty local wedding venue, George’s thrifty ways, how Elliott sang his way to be in our hearts and lives, original gigs versus function gigs, Xmas gigs, sprouts and the safety pop on jars. Enjoy!

This week we are joined by very special guest Mark Pusey! Mark is probably best known for playing drums for Ed Sheeran but as well as that he’s had an incredibly successful career playing for Tom Jones, Olly Murs, Leona Lewis, Katherine Jenkins and many, many more. Fresh from a session at Abbey Road for a new Amy Winehouse biopic we chat about playing for films in the studio, kit selection, playing style, touring with Ed Sheeran and the unique stage set up and special kit that was required. We also talk about Mark’s life outside of drums and how important it is to be a well rounded person which can help make you a better drummer. Enjoy!

It’s George’s birthday week, nearly Xmas and England are through to the quarter finals. WHAT A WEEK. George has been out partying three days in a row watching bands and singing karaoke, Xmas shopping with Dean and tucking into some sweet birthday tapas while Ben has put his tree up. We also chat about watching other drummers and donuts. Enjoy!

Happy birthday to us! It’s our one year anniversary so come celebrate with us as we chat about George’s gig at The Joiners, getting older, the best way to serve pizza at a wedding and we answer that age old question; how much does it cost to ship a bass cab to New Zealand? Enjoy!

EASY! Although George missed the game, it was a great start to the World Cup for England. George has been getting ready for his headline show rehearsing and Ben helped him re-skin his kit (let's talk about the shoes). There’s chat about bands using extra musicians live (some on stage, some hidden) but the main chat this week is about drum triggers both live and in the studio. Bring on Friday! Enjoy!

It’s another episode of Drum & Drummer and somehow we’ve pulled out an edit we think is worth listening to. George has been busy working at his crew job and experienced yet another w**ker at a gig. Ben’s been having a spring clean at home and at work (some studio gear up for sale if you’re interested), and we find out what was actually in Connor’s hardware case. There’s also chat about FX cymbals including the Chopper, George has been shopping for skins and Ben’s had another interesting studio phone call. Enjoy!

Wedding season is over and Ben’s got some stats. George did a Halloween gig with Wren and met friend of the pod Connor Griffiths in person. Surprisingly there’s some drum chat this week including breakables, sharing kits, festival kits and is the headline slot the best slot? There’s also a tough decision to make as George’s next gig falls on the same evening as England VS USA in the World Cup. What will Ben do? Enjoy!

We find out how he got into teaching, his weekly schedule, dealing with students of all ages and abilities, how he started drumming, his kits and how he nearly owned his own drum shop! Enjoy!

It’s another episode in your ears. The boys are in the same room eventually after George had a nightmare journey to Portsmouth. Ben had a tough weekend with car sickness, new tattoo work healing badly and the unfortunate passing of Princess Bean (RIP). There’s a rowdy wedding, bad speeches, Police action in Hilsea and George went to a very fancy dinner party at a neighbour’s flat. Enjoy!

Una piña colada por favor! Ben’s back from his holiday, hooray! First bit of work was a Decade gig with George but in a different kind of venue. There’s a Nottingham-gate update, new drumstick chat with contrasting views on stick weight, plus George has actually started practising the drums! We also discuss the secret Vic Firth trick for holding the stick in the right place. Enjoy!

George had an eventful gig at an 80th birthday party and then DIDN’T have a wedding gig when the band were cancelled the day before in what can only be described as bizarre circumstances! Yamaha makes an appearance in the Drum Dumpster and there’s the pilot of a new quiz, hosted and devised by Ben, ‘Car Or Drum’! This really is top stuff. Enjoy!

He’s been mentioned a lot on the podcast and this week we finally welcome Neil Elliott onto the show. Are we cool? Doubt it very much. On this week’s episode (probably the most dark and worst) Ben and George chat about selling out, making their Instagram more “sexy”, wedding guests who’ve had a few too many, taking daunting tasks step by step and most importantly of all asking the big question; could you kick a toddler’s head off? It’s Thursday. You’re nearly through another week. Well done. IT’S THE BIG 4-0! On this week’s episode Ben and George chat about how they spent their time in Lockdown 3.0, go through some listener Tweets and an inventive alternative hardware case. But the big news is the Instagram poll as to whether George should let a groom play his drum kit and things turn angry after he picks George’s favourite song to play. This week Ben and George have a chat with Mel Stewart who is the Brand Development Manager for the British Drum Company. Formed in 2015, the BDC are quickly becoming the drummers choice for drums and snares. Mel takes us through his role at the BDC, their unique way of making drums, artist involvement, the difference between their Legend and Lounge series kits, and there’s technical talk about bearing edges, ply, wood types and the cold press technique. Mel also gives us a run down on some of the BDC snare drums, his current kit, first kit and he gets his mind blown when we chat delivery companies. Enjoy!

The next generation of drummers are here and ready to take over. This week Ben and George had a chat with Connor Griffiths. As well as playing for his band FLOWVERS (who are doing very well), at 21 Connor is already very active in the local session scene and is making dents into the function world too. Conversation includes when he turned pro, deciding not to go to uni, practising at gigs, FLOWVERS, singles vs albums, what modern drummers need to be able to do live, adding extras to your kit, his dream kit, best gigs so far and an extremely controversial pick for favourite delivery company. It’s a very special episode this week as the guys chat to one of Ben’s drumming idols; Guy Davis from Reuben. For those who don’t know, Reuben are an incredible band from the 00s and their debut album ‘Racecar Is Racecar Backwards’ is one of Ben’s favourite albums of all time. Seriously, go listen to it. They chat about what Guy has been up to since his latest project Freeze The Atlantic ended in 2018, joining Reuben, the making of Racecar Is Racecar Backwards, signing to Xtra Mile, touring, favourite gigs, his love for Sonor kits and how he felt when Reuben came to an end in 2008. Today we welcome onto the show Si Lawrence. Si is the drummer for London based Strange Planes. Ben and Si got to know each other when Strange Planes supported Oxygen Thief on a few tours back in the day. There’s plenty of laughs to be had as the guys chat bands, shit gigs, a trip to Newcastle for an audition, convincing bass players not to go to uni, in band fighting and selling his DW kit for peanuts. It also turns out that not only does Si live in a real 'drum dumpster', he used to be an ungrateful little sh*t at Christmas. Enjoy!

Ben had a loooooong day gigging in Wales and there’s some big chat about drumming shoes. The boys both gig on the Isle Of Wight on the same day as Kasabian and one of them arrives at the ferry port heading home with what can only be described as too much cheese. George is cursed when going to Centre Parcs and how do you pass the time at gigs? Ben explains the game of P’asson and his trip to Sandown Pier to play crazy golf. Enjoy!

Hello! This week Ben and George are joined by the delightfully charming Curtis Aaron. Curtis has taken his drumming skills abroad and on the high seas as a veteran of the cruise ship game. In fact, he was on a cruise ship when Covid came along. The chat got silly at several points but we did manage to find out about his great career thus far. The bald headed boys are back for some more belting banter. George has had a little holiday and got verbally attacked by a comedian and it’s Ben’s birthday week. What’s it like when your gig finishes early? That was the case for both guys last weekend. You pack up and GET OUT! You may have torpedoed your own wedding but we’re grateful to be home early. It’s that time of the week again *sigh*. Ben has been drumming his little heart out in the studio and find out about his video audition for a fairly big metal band. George has been swimming and tells a tale of gluttony that resulted in tears. There’s Tom Of The Week, the Drum Dumpster and a bank that doesn’t accept cash? Insane.

Welcome to another episode of Drum and Drummer! This week Ben and George had a chat with session drummer extraordinaire Ben Kennedy. They chat about his career which really got going when he was cast as the drummer in the Girls Aloud music video for The Promise. Other highlights include touring with Ladyhawke, FOXES, Claire Maguire and James Walsh (Starsailor). Ever wondered what it’s like to support Coldplay on a stadium tour of the US? Wonder no more as Benny K has been there and done that. He’s also supported the likes of Bastille and Pharrell. That’s an impressive curriculum vitae. Hello! On this week's show George had a nightmare couple of hours with Covid and his MOT and Ben’s a bit frustrated at work but there’s plenty to talk about; the new Pearl snare drum has arrived, George gets some new gig opportunities (and is too young to remember Saved By The Bell) and find out who is this week’s Tom Of The Week. Plus wedding season is back on with the boys both out gigging this weekend but is Ben looking forward to it?

Welcome to another episode of Drum and Drummer. Ben’s been a bit ill and been to the bank, George ran the Brighton half marathon and had a massage. Episode 10! This one’s for the haters. George discusses his recent attempts to learn how to swim before launching into a rant about an evening out at an open mic night. They also take a look at Life On Mars by Davie B and talk about drum parts you don’t play live due to laziness, difficulty or because the band can’t keep in time. All this plus Lego and Sonic The Hedgehog. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?

2022 is here and what better way to get through the first week back at work then listening to Ben and George prattle on about drums and stuff. George got some delightful drumming gifts from Santa (himself) and work has begun on Ben’s new Jurassic Park themed tattoo. There’s also a rumour involving Ben’s old Year 7 music teacher and a discussion on how to learn songs using charts due to the complete inability to commit songs to memory. Enjoy!

Merry Christmas one and all! The presents are opened, crackers pulled, and the Monopoly board has been flipped in anger. What's next? How about you let the overabundance of food and alcohol fester in your big fat belly and join Ben and George on this extra special Christmas Day episode. They discuss how playing a different instrument can make you a better drummer having recently played a Christmas party gig together. They also chat about the unglamorous yet functional part of your kit; hardware and of course, their ideal food for Christmas day. Did someone say CHEESE IN BLANKETS?!
