Prolific film and culture critics Katey Rich, Matt Patches, Da7e Gonzales and David Ehrlich take on pop culture topics, film and TV reviews and interview very special guests in bi-weekly installments.
The podcast Fighting In The War Room: A Movies And Pop Culture Podcast is created by Katey, Matt, Da7e and David. The podcast and the artwork on this page are embedded on this page using the public podcast feed (RSS).
This week, Patches is struck down by illness, but Katey was able to rally through strep and stress so David, Da7e, and Katey jump back into the safe space of the War Room to talk about Bluesky and re-orienting our phones to serve less doom. Then, Katey and David (who have seen Emilia Pérez, now on Netflix!) are saddened by the clip that went “viral.” Finally, all three hosts saw the Robbie Williams biopic where he’s a special effect monkey and…they all liked it? Adjust your hype.

Katey, Patches, David, and Da7e report from the War Room the Wednesday after Donald Trump won the popular vote and a second presidential term in the United States.
This week, everyone is back in the War Room after Jizz Fest ’24 and there are movies to discuss. First, Da7e and David have seen Venom: The Last Dance, and – ya know – it is what it is, which is a movie with Venom in it. Then, Da7e needs to warn you off Here, which is using “A.I.” but can’t focus Robert Zemeckis. Then, all four hosts get into a spoiler-free discussion of Anora as the movie expands into more theaters soon.

This week, everyone is back from their festivals and in the war room to talk about the Vulture Movie Fantasy League. It’s a yearly fantasy movie draft that three of your host participated in last year (Katey won the podcasters league), and this year we have a mini league of our own: the FITWarriors. This week’s podcast we talk (mostly to David) about how to play the game then Patches and Da7e pepper our two festival going hosts with questions about what would make good bets. That allows us to get some info on TIFF Audience winner Life of Chuck and more!
Come out and play, Warriors. Head to movie game.vulture.com to sign up and put “FITWarriors” as the “League Name” to compete against each other.

This week, David has to sit a week out of the War Room, but it’s just because of visiting in-laws – he is safe and fine! Katey, Patches, and Da7e convene so Patches and Da7e can talk about the not-good, but also not-bad Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, then Katey updates everyone on her departure from Vanity Fair and what her media life is like now. Finally, Katey and Da7e dig into another type of Empire in theaters right now, a Ghostbusters Frozen one since Katey’s eldest child wanted to see it as his first foray into the world of Ghostbusting. There are some spoilers for both Empire movies this week in their segments but those spoilers are VERY slight considering these movies and their visual spectacles.

This week, we're back for 2022, a year where we're going to have to prove to Time Magazine we're still a good podcast. Kicking off this year, we have three movies that a lot of Twitter seems to be getting all wrong. First – most everyone liked Licorice Pizza except maybe Da7e who wanted a bit more "there" there. Then, Matrix: Resurrections is good and that's the truth. Finally, director Adam McKay is mad at everyone with Don't Look Up, a snarky comedy currently on Netflix.

It's another Fighting in The War Room Quarter Quell!
Instead of capping off the year with our annual Top Tens, we've pushed that episode back into January for film catch-up and instead delivered another Quarter Quell! This installment, each host brings a movie from FITWR's first year of podcasting, which went from being called an Kino Katey Audio Blog to Operation Kino before becoming Fighting In the War Room. Travel back to late 2010 through Summer 2011 as your hosts revisit 127 Hours, Limitless, Water for Elephants, and Super 8. Four movies not based on pre-existing IP…well, I guess 127 Hours was a book, but you'll get it.
For all the films EXCEPT 127 hours, the segment kicks off with a long-lost clip from the original podcast with horrible audio.

Previous Quarter Quells:
This week, on the final "normal" Fighting in the War Room of the year, we held the episode back until Spider-Man: No Way Home was in theaters so we could do a Segment 3 FULL OF SPOILERS as there's not a lot to talk about that wouldn't be considered a spoiler in this very large movie. But before that, Katey, Patches, Da7e, and David dive into Nightmare Alley, which is also out in theaters this week, and Katey uses the holiday podcast real estate to remind us Polar Express is still bad.
