Enlightenment is the state of irreversible creativity
Urgyen Sangharakshita
"Deserving a place in a realm where miracles happen"
"To be willingly fallible is a creative act in which the imagination participates."
I remember a few years back when we had an experience of an eclipse, the only one I have seen in my lifetime, just how it felt when darkness fell and the sun’s light was no longer present. It was only for a short time but it was eerie and I knew in that moment that nothing could live without the sun. I think this is true of love too, that nothing can live without love.
"Pleasure is a thing that also needs accomplishing"
from The Word by Tony Hoagland
"In a crisis you have to find new ways to be, you can't just carry on with the old ways...Buddhism gives you something new...a way of finding happiness, that comes from a different place."
"I think the world, at the moment, is giving us lessons in the need for spirituality"
"Durante una crisis tienes que encontrar nuevas maneras de ser, no puedes nada más continuar con los viejos hábitos… el Budismo te da algo nuevo.. una manera de encontrar una felicidad que viene de otro lado.”
“Yo creo que el mundo, en este momento, nos está dando una lección sobre la necesidad de espiritualidad”
"So it's community - but with our own front door" - Tejasvini
"The idea is that, at some point, it won't be a project; it'll just be more like how we do things"
The Sikkha Project aims to support the development of training within Triratna for every level of experience, to discover and share how the different elements of our system of practice are taught and practiced most effectively, and to create resources and training to fill any gaps.
Here's a conversation with Dhammamegha, currently co-ordinating this project, explaining its origins, who's involved and the 'shopping list' that the team are currently focussing on: Centre-based teaching, meditation teaching and Order life training. Some of the latest and upcoming developments include four introductory courses which are now on the Sikkha website as teaching resources, and an Order practice review questionnaire to help find out what would support Order Members in their Dharma lives. Another important aspect of Sikkha's work is mentoring and here Sadayasihi shares her recent experience of 'whole team' teacher training and Centre visioning which took place in March at the London Buddhist Centre.

"There's something about coming at it all fresh and trying to see the patterns in it and bring it together in its different 'baskets'..."
Vidyadevi is an editor of 'The Complete Works of Sangharakshita' which aims to be the definitive edition of Sangharakshita's life’s work as a Buddhist writer and teacher.
In this conversation she talks about the various different people who are involved in making this project happen, its significance, what it's like working on it now that Sangharakshita has died, and her ambition for the Complete Works to be as friendly and as approachable as possible.
From creating a concordance (which allows readers to pursue their interests in certain themes throughout the whole works) to translations to the encouragement received from hearing back from readers of these volumes, Vidyadevi gives us a sense of what it is like being involved in a project of this magnitude.

The first episode of The Buddhist Centre Online's 'audio magazine', includes some of our latest audio highlights - an overview of the 2018 European Buddhist Union and Buddhist Teachers in Europe meetings, extracts from conversations with Mahasraddha, Director of the Abhayaratna Trust, and Vajratara, chair of the India Dhamma Trust as well as a brief introduction to Bodhipaksa's latest book 'I Can't Believe It's Not Buddha!'
"This is not theoretical, this is how it is, it's life: sickness and ageing are very challenging".
Mahasraddha is the Director of the Abhayaratna Trust which exists to help support Order Members in financial difficulty.
In this conversation Mahasraddha outlines his vision for the Trust - and its spirit, which is based on Sangharakshita's lecture, 'A Case of Dysentery'. He also mentions a number of projects that the Abhayaratna Trust have in the pipeline, including establishing local care networks and supporting co-housing initiatives.

Ricardo Rico became a Mitra and asked for ordination into the Triratna Buddhist Order in Venezuela over 20 years ago. He recently has moved to Cuernavaca, Mexico.
In this podcast we hear a little bit about Ricardo's life as a university lecturer and father of three children. He also speaks about life in Venezuela and the current political and economic situation. He expresses his gratitude to Vajranatha who has been heroically helping keep the Merida Sangha going.
During the course of the conversation, Nagapriya gives him a very special letter, inviting Ricardo to join the Triratna Buddhist Order in Guhyaloka, April 2019.
Despite having worked for 27 years as a University lecturer, Ricardo only earns US$14/15 a month - making the cost of the ordination course prohibitive. Help support Ricardo - and Bruno, a fellow Mitra from Mexico - in their journey to Guhyaloka
Conversation recorded in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
"What we have is a very wonderful problem and the wonderful problem is that so many people are seeing the value of Buddhism in India and they are wanting to embrace Buddhism and the Buddhist path - and they are wanting to do that in their hundreds. But, of course, as we know, Buddhism is a path of practice. It requires careful study and training…it requires spiritual friendship. So who is going to meet these people?"
Vajratara is the Chair of the India Dhamma Trust which exists to help create supportive conditions for Buddhist practice in India. In this podcast she speaks about her connection with India, what we can learn from the life of Dr Ambedkar and how the work of the India Dhamma Trust, inspired by Dr Ambedkar's example, is helping to transform lives.

On the evening of Urgyen Sangharakshita's funeral and burial, after the departure of most of the 1,200 guests, those who remained gathered together to perform a special, final sevenfold puja and close an extraordinary day.
Padmavajra led the devotional ritual, specifically dedicated to Padmasambhava. In this extract we hear Surata reading verses to Vajrasattva known as 'The Confounder of Hell', followed by a rousing version of the Great Guru of Tibet's mantra.
Voices were uplifted and many offerings made: to say a last farewell with heartfelt thanks to the founder of the Triratna Buddhist Community.

To mark the great festival of Buddha Day (Wesak), when we celebrate the Enlightenment and its opening up of the path that leads to the end of suffering, here's a wonderful mythologically minded conversation with Sthanashraddha, self-confessed ritualist and all-round lover of beauty and of the Dharma as an aesthetic choice in itself.
Sthanashraddha's considerable elegance of being and of mind comes through beautifully as we hear his magical tale of a dawn adventure to meet the goddess of the Malvern springs and bear back to his home some of her water to offer to the Buddha. A rich exploration with Candradasa and Ratnadeva of why such things matter - and what this area of practice can help us achieve in our own lives within our own cultures.
Recorded at Adhisthana, Herefordshire, England, May 2018.
Abhayanavita has been involved with Triratna as a community since the age of 13. In her early days she learned to face her own difficult past with a fearlessness that is now reflected in her Buddhist name. She also learned to fight back against social injustice and gender discrimination via the Ashvaghosha project, educating people with plays and songs.
These days she continues that work in new ways, working at the Bahujan Hitay Project in her home town of Amravati to run a hostel for vulnerable and abused women, and to help young women and girls step free of domestic and sexual violence, giving them the tools they need to take their future into their own hands.

Saccanama talks to Karunamaya about her plans for a women’s retreat centre in India. She also tells us about two of the women she will be ordaining at the forthcoming ordinations at Bhaja in December 2017.

In Triratna we acknowledge the importance of the shared system of teaching and practice that we derive from Sangharakshita's particular presentation of the Dharma, while allowing for its systematic and orderly evaluation and development, so that it is more and more effective.
One of the important ways that 'evaluation and development' is happening is through the work of the Sikkha project. Sikkha means ‘training’, and the project will be bringing together teachers and practitioners to look at all levels of Triratna’s teaching and training, and share their experience.
Here Dhammarati talks to Dhammamegha about her work so far for the Sikkha project.

Always engaging, always in love with the Dharma and with Triratna, Upeksamati's clear delight is infectious. An inspiring meeting with someone who has spent 20+ years carrying the Buddha's teachings in his own culture with intelligence, creativity, and considerable success.

A great talk by Subhuti, live streamed around the world from London at the time, to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Triratna Buddhist Community.
The fire of peace has been ignited in the world by the Buddha. It burns brightly today in the Triratna Order and movement, and inspired by Sangharakshita’s vision will burn well into the future – but how do we fan the flames so that the heat of practice transforms the world?
Chaired by Subhadramati. Recorded in London, 8th April 2017
N.B. This is an edited and remastered audio version of the introduction, the talk and the main part of the summing up. The original audio was quiet, though we’ve turned up the volume and this version should be easily audible. We may replace it with a higher quality version when one is available.

Following on from his statement of personal regret about the publication of ‘Women, Men And Angels’ and the views expressed in it, here is Subhuti in conversation with Maitreyi, going into detail around that regret, and sharing his thoughts on a very painful episode in Triratna history, including the story of how it all happened. What emerges in the course of the interview is an exemplary look by two good, old friends at how confusion can arise - and how clear apologies can help with any process of healing or reconciliation that might result.

A new podcast from some members of the Adhisthana Kula as they come to the end of a 10-day meeting of the Triratna College of Public Preceptors - the body responsible for maintaining the integrity and spirit of the Triratna Buddhist Order.
A great little summary of some of the more general issues discussed, including those arising from historical controversies in Triratna (formerly the FWBO). We get a little taster of other conversations to come - with news of new media, and of prospective reconciliation possibilities within the wider community.
What emerges is a picture of the College at a crucial moment, holding complexity as Dharma practitioners individually and together. Significantly, we hear a moving account of some of their own experience of 'Insight' in the context of walking a Buddhist path; one where we can both be clear about our history while also striving for the ideal of the Bodhisattva, who works to relieves suffering in the world.

Welcome to a new year of podcasts from The Buddhist Centre Online!
We're delighted to welcome our first guest via Skype, Munisha, Triratna's European Safeguarding Officer, to discuss some strong work in an ever-changing field of care. A fascinating look at what's involved in contemporary safeguarding, how it relates to controversies of the past, and the challenges posed by the need to have an international approach in an online age.
What comes across most clearly is Munisha's deep sense of integrity and compassion. We get to hear what supports her in sometimes difficult, lonely work, and how her own Buddhist practice has been strengthened by taking on the role of being a protector for the vulnerable in our community.

We have come to the end of the winter 2017 European Chairs Assembly meeting at Adhisthana. As I write the chairs are packing their bags and getting ready to go - and I am sure they will be taking their recharged energy, friendship and inspiration back out into the world! It has been another rich, full week, ending last night with a concluding ritual in the shrine room where we recited the Transference and Merit verse in different languages. Here, Dassini sums up the meeting for us and adds a few personal thoughts, sharing with us her own highlights of the past few days.

Karunadevi has been a practicing Buddhist since the 1980s after finding her way to California from the heartland of Iowa. The first American to be ordained in the U.S. into the Triratna Buddhist Order she is now a member of the College of Public Preceptors, helping maintain the spiritual wellbeing of the community worldwide.
We hear about Karunadevi's journey to the Dharma via family, friends, and brushes with mystic religion (via Christianity, Joan Baez and Lama Govinda). And how it was as an American to meet a new practice tradition founded in another, very different culture. A conversation wth the artist and poet behind the new eBook from The Buddhist Centre Online: Anādi - Without Origin (in English and Spanish editions). We hear about the origins of the book and about Binisa's meditative inspiration that underpins her work as a Dharma painter and illustrator, looking to the classic Tibetan tradition of thangka painting.
Anādi is a beautifully illustrated art and poetry book interpreting the “Bardo Thödol” – known as “The Tibetan Book of the Dead” – derived from the eighth century teaching of Padmasambhava, who was a fundamental figure in the dissemination of Buddhism in Tibet.
This enigmatic and ancient book is to guide people at any time in their lives, but above all aims to prepare them for death and what, in the Tibetan system, will come after it. Therefore, the book divides human existence into six intermediate stages or phases: life, dreams, meditation, death, the reality after death and rebirth. These six stages are trying to tell us that life as we understand it, does not end with the death of the body. The existence continues to be reborn in another body again and again, repeating these stages, until reaching what Buddhism calls Enlightenment.

Lokamitra has spent most of his adult life working in India to support the Dalit Buddhist community in their struggle against Hindu caste prejudice and its regard of them as literally "untouchable". Inspired by the life and work of the great Dalit leader, India's first Justice Minister Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the Nagaloka Institute provides an invaluable chance to thousands of young Dalits, educating them in how Buddhism can help support their democratic rights to liberty, equality, and fraternity.
We hear about Nagaloka's general work, the celebrations around the 60th anniversary of Dalit conversion to Buddhism, and about the international conference Nagaloka and Triratna sponsored with the International Network of Engaged Buddhists.

A special edition of Buddhist Voices, from India at the height of celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the mass conversion to Buddhism in 1956 of hundreds of thousands of Dalit (ex-Untouchable caste) Indians, inspired by their great leader Doctor Bhimrao Ambedkar to escape the horrors of the Hindu caste system and work towards a more just society in India.
Subhuti, a longstanding champion of Doctor Ambedkar as an exemplar of democratic principles for the whole world gives us a wonderful introduction to the life and work of someone who deserves a much wider audience. From his remarkable early life and education to his framing of the Indian constitution itself, we hear of the intimate connection between that constitution (still the basis of Indian society and law) and the work of the mind represented by conversion to Buddhism in pursuit of freedom, equality, and justice.

Here's part 2 of a conversation on Dr Ambedkar, Sangharaskhita and the Buddhist Revolution. Windhorse Publications have chosen the celebration of DrAmbedkar this autumn as the occasion to launch the first volume of the 'Complete Works' and here Priyananda tells us all about it! More information on the Windhorse Publications website - and do remember you can pre-order your copy of this volume from the second week of September, and subscribe to any subsequent ones too.
If you have actually heard of Dr Ambedkar in Western countries, you may most likely associate him with his role as a statesman and social reformer - but towards the end of his life Dr Ambedkar converted to Buddhism and with him hundreds of thousands of other people. As a result of his conversion there are now millions of new Buddhists in India. His conversion was the start of a peaceful revolution in India that continues to this day. More than that, Sangharashita's teaching of the Dharma and the evolution of Triratna is inextricably tied up with Dr Ambedkar and his approach on the Dharma. Today, over half the Triratna Buddhist Community and a third of the order lives in India. Carunalaka tells us about the events taking place in October and about the work of the India Dhamma Trust
#Maitreyi challenges the #European Chairs Assembly to discuss the question "“Should we have stronger and clearer boundaries internet use across all retreats/#Triratna retreats centres and adopted by Triratna world-wide?”
Dhammamegha explains what the Triratna International Council is and does, and tell us a bit about an exciting new project. The 'Sikkha' Project is about starting a conversation within Triratna around how we teach meditation and Dharma at all levels, and aims to provide resources and teaching materials for both individuals and Buddhist Centres world-wide.

Dhammarati talks here about a new project on the system of training in Triratna. He is one of the most experienced members of the Triratna Community, having been chair of the College of Public Preceptors for a decade. He lives and works at Adhisthana, and is now the convenor of the International Council.
Dhammarati reflects on what is essential in Buddhist practice: a growth of awareness which leads to positive and rich emotion and a move away from self-referential emotion. As joy and compassion arises, it allows for a deeper seeing into impermanent nature of all of your experience and a letting go. The reflex of this is to open up to something deeper; wisdom and spiritual rebirth. This moves you towards spontaneous action for the benefit of others; seeing that your own growth and the growth of others is integrally connected.
Dhammarati introduces a new project by the name of Sikkha (with a long a at the end). This is a Pali word meaning spiritual training. The project is about becoming conscious of what is essential to theTriratna community. It is about deepening our understanding of what and how we teach and practice, and developing an explicit shared framework to talk about it.
How effectively are we doing that as a system of training? Dhammarati celebrates the changes that make wider discussions possible across the movement: the International Council and Adhisthana. Here he and Dhammamegha talk about how that conversation can begin and what Sikkha will be doing to enquire about what is most effective in our teaching and practice.

Parami interviews Kamalanandi and Padmavyuha about gender diversity in Triratna on the occasion of the first residential retreat for gender diverse people in our community. A timely and topical discussion about the issues raised in society generally by changes in awareness around gender – and in a particular Buddhist culture as it expands its sense of itself to be more inclusive and more forward thinking about a crucial area of personal identity. The implications for ideas of practice as a Buddhist are considerable and represent a great opportunity for deepening our sense both of individuality and of community.
The conversation includes a wonderful Q & A session about issues general and specific around gender diversity awareness and its positive effects within contemporary society and within the Triratna Buddhist Community.

Dhammarati - in conversation here with Dhammamegha - is one of the most experienced members of the Triratna College of Public Preceptors having chaired it for over ten years. Here he talks about his long sabbatical after leaving that job - a rich, deep time that encompassed post-Impressionist galleries in New York and lengthy solitary retreats in California and in Wales.
We hear about his personal study and his practical exploration of the Triratna system of practice and meditation, especially via anapanasati and the mindfulness of breathing. Inspiring to hear about such a strong deepening into a Buddhist life, and about Dhammarati's gratitude for the people and conditions that support him to dedicate his work to the future of a Buddhist community via the work of the International Council.

A lovely discussion, largely about meditation, between two people who are dedicated to it as a key way to work with the mind and discover more deeply the nature of it. We hear particularly about the devotional aspects of meditation, which is another way into the idea of insight itself. An exciting idea from the Triratna European Chairs meeting at Adhisthana. Mokshini talking to Ratnaghosha, the Chair of the Cambridge Buddhist Centre, on the theme of how best to celebrate our world-wide Triratna sangha. This would be both to promote unity across our sanghas as well help give those attending local Centres a sense of the internationality of our Movement which might not be obvious for those coming along.
In fact, over the course of the next 18 months there are several events and particular anniversaries that will be marked at Triratna Centres world-wide. There are significant anniversaries within the Indian sangha with Dr Ambedkar's 125th birthday coming up on 14 April 2016, as well as the 60th anniversary of the 1956 mass conversions to Buddhism in Nagpur. And in addition to these there are suggestions of making use of Triratna Day (marking the founding of our community) as an annual event to celebrate Triratna worldwide. A wee report from day 3 of the 2016 Triratna European Chairs Assembly on Amalavajra's 'Money Awakening' workshop.
As Amalavajra points out, the Chair of a Triratna Buddhist Centre is likely to be one of the more influential people in their situation - so their views on money matter.
We look at the 8 money archetypes, and the effect of giving more and more from a position of genuine generosity as we move towards a 'gift' economy within Triratna - a more appropriate term, Amalavajra suggests, for the 'dana [generosity] economy'.

Munisha introduces the Urban Retreat on Sangha Day, Stockholm Buddhist Centre 21 November 2015. The music is "Erbarme Dich", from the St Matthew Passion by JS Bach, with mezzo soprano Janet Baker. The poem is A High Blue Day on Scalpay, by Kenneth White. Here it is, with Viryabodhi's translation into Swedish.
A High Blue Day on Scalpay
This is the summit of contemplation, and no art can touch it Blue, so blue, the far-out archipelago and the sea shimmering, shimmering No art can touch it, the mind can only try to become attuned to it To become quiet, and space itself out, to become open and still, unworlded Knowing itself in the diamond country, in the ultimate unlettered light.
Kenneth White

Parami is back, reporting from Australasia - or is it Oceania? - talking with two friends who have spent much of their adult lives reflecting on - and acting upon - climate change as an integral aspect of their Buddhist practice. A fascinating, sometimes sobering, but realistically positive conversation about what environmental issues have to do with the Dharma - and what we can do to get involved...
Topics covered include 'transition towns'; Al Gore's initiative; thinking about our kids; how to deal with carbon that's already present in the atmosphere; why attending to this issue is crucial Dharma practice - individually and communally; divestment; what can we do to get involved in Triratna?

Green Tara is the Buddhist figure associated with deep compassion in the face of the world's troubles. Something most mothers and fathers can relate to when it comes to their own kids!
This weekend we're focussing on how to practice Buddhism and meditation as a parent with young children, and we're delighted to be able to bring you resources live from the Retreat for Mothers that's just started at Taraloka Retreat Centre for women in Wales. We hope mums and dads everywhere will get lots of helpful input through what emerges from the retreat - and from the other material we'll post to complement it. Feel free to join in with your comments - we'd love to hear your experience!

We're making a virtue of the long gap since Suvajra's autumn seasonal by switching to the southern hemisphere for our frame of reference! As colder weather settles over the realms of the south we hear about a Scotsman's adventures in India...
This set of fascinating winter tales comes from the mid '80s when Suvajra travels to the east to conduct his first ordinations on behalf of his teacher, Urgyen Sangharakshita. There he encounters two important figures in the history of Triratna: Dr. Ambedkar and Dhardo Rimpoche.
From massive Ambedkarite commemorations on a beach in Mumbai to retreat near the ancient caves of Bhaja to his first meeting with Dhardo in the chilly mountain climes of northern Kalimpong, Suvajra's travels take him into new territories in all senses and see him undertake the work that will eventually yield his classic book 'The Wheel And The Diamond'.
Recorded at Adhisthana, UK, winter 2015.

The first in a new occasional series with Parami, one of the most experienced members of the Triratna Buddhist Order and Community. Over the coming months and years, Parami will be joining us for conversation and sharing her generous perspectives on what she encounters during her travels around a contemporary international Buddhist sangha. We'll be hearing from her at home in the UK, as well as on the road from Mexico, Australasia and the U.S.
A true Dharma farer, still in love with the Buddha's teaching and the radical vision it represents, Parami introduces herself here by talking about her work and what still animates her in her own practice - a sense that while the world is on fire with suffering the Dharma is a beautiful solution we might all embrace.
Recorded live at the Omega Institute, NY, at the International Western Dharma Teachers' Conference.

Sangharakshita, founder of the Triratna Buddhist Order, has long dreamed of starting a new library to house his collection of 11,000+ books on Buddhism, the Dharma and literature (including extensive reference and poetry collections). Vidyadevi, one of the people who helped make it happen, introduces the new library as it finally opens its doors. In his (slightly belated!) autumn seasonal, we hear from Suvajra about his new, unexpected circumstances, caring for his teacher Urgyen Sangharakshita. It's an intimate and touching picture of their friendship, and moves naturally into an extended reflection on Suvajra's devotional practice of Chöd - "cutting" - meditation. Chöd is a ritualised practice from the Tantric tradition involving the whole body and mind. Its aim is to see deeply into the nature of self and of consciousness itself, and we get a wonderful glimpse into the true nature of empowerment, initiation, and indeed relationship to a teacher in that context. With a clear sense of how facing down the gods and demons we carry with us can lead to a clear-hearted seeing of things and a life dedicated to kindness.

Morgan as a pioneer of the now infamous asset-backed securities that became a prime factor in the credit collapse of 2008. His journey winds via improbably different worlds: from scuba diving on coral reefs to the Henley Regatta, from delivering pizzas around London at night to riding the Greyhound bus across America and selling books door to door in Tennessee! And all leading to a remarkable turnaround via meditation, Buddhism and the mountains of Nepal. A strong tale of determination and talent finding - finally- something truly worth investing in...

A new set of Buddhist Voices from The Buddhist Centre Online gets started with the first in a regular series featuring Suvajra, one of the most experienced members of the Triratna Buddhist Order, as we trace his life and practice taking each of the four seasons as our starting point.
In part 2 of this conversation taking as its starting point Suvajra's first encounters with Buddhism in the summer of 1969, we move through a full 10 year arc to end with his eventual ordination into the Triratna Buddhist Order in autumn 1978. It's moving to listen as an irregular interest, based as much on intuition as anything else, grows into a full-flowered commitment to a life dedicated to spiritual fellowship, awareness, and emotional positivity.
There are more great evocations of the early days of Buddhism in the UK, especially in Glasgow and Manchester, and of the still forming ordination process in a new kind of spiritual community. As Suvajra grows through his tales his journey is both recognisable and exemplary for its open heartedness.

A new set of Buddhist Voices from The Buddhist Centre Online gets started with the first in a regular series featuring Suvajra, one of the most experienced members of the Triratna Buddhist Order, as we trace his life and practice taking each of the four seasons as our starting point.
We begin by touching on Suvajra's current life at Adhisthana Retreat Centre in the UK, caring for his teacher Urgyen Sangharakshita, the founder of the Triratna Buddhist Order and Community. And having set the scene in Herefordshire, 2014, it's time to consider our first season...
Today we go back to the Summer of '69 and meet the young Suvajra as he first discovers the Dharma and realises that he has always been a Buddhist. This is a fascinating account of the early Buddhist scene in Britain in the 1960s and '70s and, specifically, in Scotland. We also hear about Suvajra's first visit to the US and subsequent exposure to Buddhist meditation and practice via Christmas Humphreys' books. And we catch a glimpse of his early encounters with the great Tibetan texts that were to have a profound influence on his later life.

A delightful conversation today at the Triratna International Council with Vajrajyoti from Auckland, New Zealand, back for her second podcast after her debut at the last meeting in India. We reminisce about monkeys, talk about the challenge of language barriers to Dharma communities around the world, and appreciate the positive effects of internationality generally - especially in its 'practice' aspects! All in the rather beautiful, if rainy, English countryside around Adhisthana...

A great conversation on today's podcast with Aryaketu from India. Inspiring tales from his project teaching computer skills to women and men from amongst India's poorest communities as a way out of poverty. And a rousing evocation of why the International Council represents something vital to the sangha in India and is, indeed, the flowering of Dr. Ambedkar's vision for the Dalit community.

For today's podcast we're joined graciously (for the second time in a day!) by Amala from New Hampshire in the USA. After some technical difficulties earlier we re-recorded this excellent conversation about how the International Council has alleviated a sense of isolation within Trirtana in the US and enabled the Order there to share its considerable wealth of experience more widely. An affirming and inspiring vision of connectedness from the USA & Canada's Order Convener. Also, we talk a bit about brass bands...

Some weeks ago, an assembly was held for the Chairs of many Triratna Buddhist Centres in Europe. You may have heard some very lovely harmonized chanting from the event as it was happening (see previous boos!). Here's a special 'puja' (a Buddhist ritual to evoke the spirit of the Buddha's teaching and help get our emotions behind the practice of them) that was performed featuring some of the different languages represented at the meeting: Dutch, English, Estonian, Flemish, German, Spanish, Swedish...
There's something magical about hearing different voices and tongues as part of one diverse community...
