Lucy Lumen is exploring the peripherals of photography and creativity. Searching for answers to the questions we ask ourselves in a world where consumption of art and culture is increasingly an online activity. Lucy wants to know the who, what, when, where, why and how of being a modern creative. Join Lucy as she shares her thoughts, feelings and experiences as a working photographer and artist( as well as a content creator) in both solo episodes and sharing the adventures of others in long form interviews.
The podcast The Lucy Lumen Podcast is created by Lucy Lumen. The podcast and the artwork on this page are embedded on this page using the public podcast feed (RSS).
This episode title might seem harsh at first but give me a chance to explain and you will hopefully understand what I'm getting at. I think this is something that not enough people talk about and it is an unfortunate or fortunate truth depending on who you are and how you look at it.

I have an absolutely amazing interview episode with Wesley Verhoeve for you guys to get stuck into. I feel like it gave me so much clarity and grounded me, so I hope it does the same for you.

Today I’m bringing you an in person interview with a mother, publisher, curator and film shooter, and a personal friend of mine Charlotte Rose Beers who is based about 15 mins away from me here on the gold coast.
When Charlotte was in Japan earlier this year she decided to start an instagram page celebrating the work of female film photographers and she wasted no time accelerating that goal to a printed magazine that is now in its third issue and almost sold out.
A hard working woman showing us all that an idea is only an idea and we must act promptly and with passion if we want to create community and see our idea come to life.
I’m so proud of Charlotte's efforts and I hope this chat inspires you to kick off the new year in a meaningful way.
We chat about the why behind the zine, the logistics of creating it, what it takes to curate, how to build a community online using social media but without selling your soul to the algo and how parenthood is the biggest motivator for change in this world.
If you are starting out in film or feeling frustrated with the results you are getting then I have a guide just for you. This beginner film photography ebook helps to side step the mistakes and start getting beautiful results from your film rolls!

I'm finally bringing the podcast back and so excited about it. This episode explains where I have been, the struggles I've had and why I'm resolved to overcome them. Thank you so much for all your patience if you're an OG subscriber. I promise there will be some awesome interviews this coming year, as well as some solo episodes where I can share my thoughts in a less algorithm influenced way.
I sat down with family film photographer Christen Peters for a chat about the moments she captures for Auckland families exclusively on film! Christen shares her process and some tips and tools that make her workflow smoother. For podcasting I recommend using a dynamic microphone as it will reject a lot of room sound and background noise. The most important part is to make sure you are as close as you can comfortably be. Using a pop filter can help reduce sibilance and plosives as well.

I wrap up the first season of the podcast with the Gutterman of Neg Pos Podcast! It was a delight to get to chat all things music with Mike and really get deep into what he loved from the 90's and how music videos and MTV influenced his photography style. We have so much in common and I really cherished the opportunity to chat with Mike openly and freely about music more than photography! The two link up so much though and I know a lot of you are music fans so I hope this gets you thinking about what inspires you in that realm too!

Em is so accomplished and just killing it with her professional and personal work. We chat about Australia as inspiration and exploring the outback for locations like motels and old pubs. I have a very special episode for you all, this one is quite different so I'm excited to share it with you!
This episode is actually an interview conducted by a pen pal of mine over in Denmark. We met via the YouTube channel and have been emailing back and forth semi regularly ever since. Christian is doing a University project exploring the topic/question of art vs content and he had some questions he wanted to ask me in relation to my photography and the way I choose to share it online. I think this episode will really speak to content creators, especially those regularly uploading, or trying to, on YouTube.
This episode is quite long but as it's for a university project I really wanted to offer Christian as much as possible to work with. It was his suggestion that this topic might make a cool podcast episode and whilst maybe this sort of thing isn't every ones cup of tea I think it's really interesting to ponder the things Christian asks here.
Please feel free to contact me and let me know what you thought of these topics. Christian is a patron of mine and a big supporter of my work so thank you to you for including me in your research for this assignment!

Matt Murray of Podcast fame Matt Loves Cameras joins me for a chat about juggling family life and creativity. Matt and I have become close friends since we connected on social media and speak almost everyday. I find much solace in chatting with Matt, he is always a laugh and will offer advice when I need it. He is a family man and we touch on that a lot as it can often make having a creative life difficult and challenging. Matt shares his travel memories and how that inspired him in his photography both then and now. We obviously get side tracked and veer off topic but in the best way possible!

Welcome to the first episode of Lucy Lumen's Podcast Adventure! I'm so excited to kick this season off with a new found friend and fellow film shooter Molly Kate over in Cardiff, Wales. Molly is a welcome fresh energy to the YouTube photography world and I was really pleased to get the chance to have a proper chat with her. We discussed many things, including how photography fits into Molly's life, finding your niche, gender and street photography and some opinions on how to approach the sometimes negative comments received when bringing this topic up, the price of film cameras and why we should stop complaining and of course a few laughs. We were both a bit nervous but the convo really got going once we were into it. Thank you for listening, I appreciate it. Make sure you check Molly out and go say Hi!!
