The Micah Hanks Program is a weekly podcast that covers science and the mysteries of our universe. On November 22, 1963, John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States, became the victim of an assassin's bullet during a motorcade visit through Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas. Although the Warren Commission later concluded Kennedy's assassination had been the work of one man, Lee Harvey Oswald, questions have remained about what other information might remain in holdings of the intelligence community.
Last week, the latest in an ongoing declassification of records related to the assassination made additional JFK files available to the public. On this episode of The Micah Hanks Program, we look at what the new documents reveal about Kennedy's death, the CIA and Cold War espionage, the birth of the "Deep State," and also claims that UFOs may have been somehow linked to Kennedy's untimely death in 1963.

In late 2019, residents of Colorado and Nebraska were perplexed by a sudden wave of mystery drone sightings that, to date, remain unexplained. For decades, belief in unidentified aerial phenomena has found its way into the ideas espoused by a number of religious and political groups, as well as other organizations with unusual backgrounds. In his landmark analysis of this aspect of modern UFO-related beliefs, computer scientist Jacques Vallee argued in his 1979 book Messengers of Deception that such beliefs could play a key role in understanding both the phenomenon itself, as well as how it may be used by such groups as a control mechanism. On Tuesday, Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna announced the formation of a new government task force that aims to investigate and declassify U.S. government information on some of America's most perplexing secrets. As 2025 kicks off, U.S. officials have been on high alert following a pair of New Years Day attacks that occurred in separate American cities only hours apart. One of the incidents, a suicide bombing involving a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, has also become the focus of controversy for reasons few might have predicted: new allegations that the bomber had possessed knowledge of U.S. war crimes, secret propulsion technologies being used by China, and a supposed UAP unacknowledged special access program.

Since November, American East Coast residents and U.S. officials have demanded clarity after a wave of drone sightings occurring over New Jersey and New York, with their origins and intent still shrouded in mystery. While the FBI and others have activated specialized drone detection systems to help assess the situation, Pentagon officials have reassured the public that most of the sightings are misidentifications, although many local leaders and residents remain unconvinced and increasingly anxious.

In 2013, a feature article appeared on the website of legendary aerospace and defense giant Lockheed Martin that quickly had aviation buffs talking. The piece, titled “Speed is the New Stealth,” claimed that a new hypersonic aircraft was under development at the company’s famous Skunk Works facility, which would soon set a new standard for speed and stealth in American aerospace technologies. In the years immediately following the Second World War, sightings of strange phenomena in our skies gave rise to one of the strangest developments of the postwar era: the "arrival" of flying saucers, strange objects that the U.S. government now calls unidentified anomalous phenomena.
Joining us this week is Greg Eghigian, a Professor of History and Bioethics at Pennsylvania State University. An expert on the history of the abnormal and the paranormal in the modern world, his research has been supported by NASA and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, and Greg joins us on The Micah Hanks Program to discuss his recent book, After the Flying Saucers Came: A Global History of the UFO Phenomenon.

As humans continue to search the cosmos for evidence of intelligent life from other worlds, and the UAP debate suggests the possibility that it may already have found us, legal scholars are now considering how laws would apply to potential contact scenarios.

After the surrender of Japan that marked the end of the Second World War, American forces began to unravel clues to the existence of a disturbing secret program involving biological experiments carried out on human test subjects during the height of the conflict. Known as "Unit 731", the program has never been officially acknowledged, and although its existence is well established, the American government's secretive dealings with Japanese scientists led to an eastern counterpart to the controversial "Operation Paperclip" that ensued with Nazi scientists after the war.

In 1996, radio host Art Bell received a mysterious package containing small metallic samples and an incredible story. According to the anonymous author of the enclosed letter, the material fragments had been collected during the recovery of an advanced aerospace vehicle that crashed near Roswell, New Mexico in the summer of 1947.
Recently, the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) conducted a series of tests on the legendary material, whose unique physiochemical properties were claimed to enable "inertial mass reduction" (i.e., levitation or antigravity functionality), potentially due to the bismuth and magnesium layers acting as a terahertz waveguide. This week on The Micah Hanks Program, look at AARO and Oak Ridge National Laboratory's findings, as well as a deep dive into the bizarre story of these alleged Roswell materials.

In the summer of 1995, following a congressional request, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) investigated documents related to the alleged crash of a "flying disc" near Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF), New Mexico in 1947. The result, which produced no "smoking gun" evidence of the purported crash, did reveal the mysterious destruction of records from the period, raising questions about who, and under what authority, the records might have been destroyed.
Now, new draft language has revealed a possible effort by present-day U.S. lawmakers to have the GAO conduct a similar audit of the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO). This week on The Micah Hanks Program, we examine the situation, and also look at the history of the GAO's involvement with U.S. government investigations into UAP.

In the 1980s, Popular Mechanics featured an intriguing cover story that detailed encounters with a colossal black flying wing in California’s desert skies. In January 2023, a U.S. military pilot reported an encounter with a group of unusual objects flying in a diamond formation over the Gulf of Mexico near Eglin Air Force Base. The incident, which eventually came to the attention of Florida Representative Matt Gaetz, became a matter of public record after Gaetz discussed it during a Congressional hearing in the summer of 2023.
Now, the DoD's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office has released its official report on the incident, claiming the case has now been resolved. However, there are several problems with AARO's analysis, and this week on The Micah Hanks Program, we dive into all of the issues that present rationale for why there may be unresolved questions about this alleged UAP incident.

On March 8, 2024, the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) released its historical report on UAP, shortly after briefing only a select group of journalists associated with seven mainstream media outlets, none of whom seemingly bothered to fact-check the error-ridden report. "The disappointing lack of critical press coverage of this important report prompted me to begin compiling the insights of UAP scholars and experts who have studied the history of UAP and the US government," wrote former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence Christopher Mellon, in a recent lengthy rebuttal in response to the report's release.

In the Autumn of 1957, a series of events unfolded that, for a time, left U.S. defense officials believing that the country was on the verge of war with the Soviet Union, as a pair of mysterious objects were tracked on radar systems making their way toward a series of high security facilities. According to the findings of the DoD's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), the object that crash-landed near Roswell, New Mexico in the summer of 1947 was a balloon used during a once-secret covert operation called Project Mogul. These findings, of course, are the same conclusions the U.S. Air Force came to decades ago which were detailed in a pair of official reports that sought to definitively explain what, for many, had once been deemed Ufology's "smoking gun"... but could there still be more to the story?

On November 17-18, 2023, a symposium of academics, current and former government officials, and other leading voices in the study of unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) convened for the inaugural Sol Foundation Initiative for UAP Research and Policy event in Palo Alto, California.

For centuries, reports of strange lights moving through the skies have been reported around the world. Beginning in the late 1940s, popular reports of sightings involving mysterious aerial lights and other phenomena have formed the basis of the modern UFO phenomenon. But could some of these aerial apparitions have a natural explanation?

Recently, several lawmakers on Capitol Hill received a classified briefing from the Intelligence Community Inspector General on allegations that first surfaced last year regarding an alleged UAP program that has been illegally withheld from Congress.

The National Defense Authorization Act has been signed into law by the President of the United States, but not without a few concerns, according to an official White House statement citing one of the massive bill's UAP provisions. This, following a showdown in Washington over a landmark bipartisan transparency provision put forward by Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer that saw significant pushback from Congressional leadership that illustrated just how far we may have to go in the fight for government transparency on UAP.

In 1938, an infamous broadcast based on H.G. Wells’ classic War of the Worlds allegedly incited confusion and panic as listeners questioned whether a real alien invasion might be underway. While modern analysis of news from the period casts doubt on some of the “panic” claims, the question remains as to what would really happen if the existence of extraterrestrial visitation were revealed under uncontrolled, chaotic means, in a “catastrophic disclosure” of an ET reality?

Earlier this year, a 64-page proposal to bring about the disclosure of information on what the U.S. government calls unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) was introduced by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Senator Mike Rounds (R-SD). However, in a potential blow to UAP disclosure efforts, recent pushback from House leadership appeared to be set to severely limit the bill, if not stop it altogether.

There’s trouble brewing on Capitol Hill, as a group of top lawmakers are banding together to attempt to block the UAP Disclosure Act of 2023, potentially one of the most significant pieces of legislation related to government and UFO transparency in the history of the U.S., from ever becoming law.

Autumn fills the air, and of all the things that frighten us, some of the most terrifying are those which involve "the terrors next door," and the lurking fears of the everyday. A classified report detailing the Pentagon’s latest findings in its ongoing investigations into unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAP, has been delivered to Congress, according to a statement issued by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) last week.

According to the DoD's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), a significant majority of UAP incidents reported by members of the military involve sightings of peculiar metallic spheres, which are often observed moving through the skies over strategic sites and military training areas. Several recent UFO sightings logged by American pilots are revealing details about harrowing encounters with strange objects they couldn't identify. In 1996, a strange series of documents were delivered to several Italian media outlets and UFO researchers, purporting to reveal the existence of a secretive investigative committee that looked into sightings of unconventional aerial vehicles during the 1930s and 40s. In 2008, one or more massive unidentified flying objects were observed moving erratically through the evening skies over Stephenville, Texas. Among the many witnesses were several law enforcement officers who said they observed the giant UFOs, although it was the radar data later obtained from the FAA that seemingly proved there had been such objects in the area, one which flew over the ranch home of then-President George W. Bush.

Throughout the early years of the Cold War, recurrent appearances of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) were documented near several radioactive materials production plants, atomic weapons assembly facilities, and atomic weapons stockpile sites in the United States. What were the objects that were seen, and what was the intention of their operators?
Larry Hancock a graduate of the University of New Mexico and a veteran who served in the United States Air Force, is the lead author of a new paper published by the Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies titled “UAP Pattern Recognition Study: 1945-1975 US Military Atomic Warfare Complex.” Larry joins us to discuss the background that led to this study of UAP historical patterns, and what it means with relation to nuclear weapons sites on The Micah Hanks Program.

Is the United States in possession of anomalous craft of non-human origin? Has this information been illegally kept from Congress? These are among the questions raised by a bombshell story published in The Debrief by Leslie Kean and Ralph Blumenthal who, in 2017, reframed the public debate about unidentified aerial phenomena in an article published in The New York Times. Now, a former intelligence official, David Charles Grusch, has come forward and filed a complaint with the Intelligence Community Inspector General alleging that knowledge of such retrievals of non-human craft has been illegally kept from Congress.

Between 2008 and 2010, what is arguably one of the most atypical government investigations into the unexplained was carried out by employees with Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies (BAASS) out of Las Vegas, Nevada, as part of a Defense Intelligence Agency effort known as the Advanced Aerospace Weapons Systems Applications Program, or AAWSAP.
This week on The Micah Hanks Program, we examine the controversial DIA program with Colm Kelleher, Ph.D., a biochemist who between 1996-2004 led the National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDS) team on Skinwalker Ranch, and in 2008 became deputy administrator of BAASS where he led the day-to-day operations in executing the AAWSAP contract with Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). Since the 1950s, American astronomers and military officials have monitored the orbital space above planet Earth for signs of objects that may represent threats to the United States. On June 2, 1964, Charles Davis, a youth living near the town of Hobbs, New Mexico, had been playing outside in full view of his grandmother when a small, top-shaped black object swooped down from the sky and hovered over him, dumping a shower of flames onto the frightened child.
